The earlier development of the law enforcement was developed by a man named Sir Robert Peel also known as the "Father of Modern Policing"
(Bennett & Hess, 2007). He was born February 5, 1788 in Chamber Hall near Bury in Lancashire (Bloy, n.d.). He was the one who greatly influenced
and set forth the fundamental principles of the police force. He developed an organized force called the London Metropolitan Police in 1829 that
protected the people who were victimized due to high unemployment, poverty, and crime. An organization is "an artificial structure created to
coordinate either people or groups and resources to achieve a mission or goal" (Bennett & Hess, 2007). The police's goal is to protect and serve their
community. Although the term of a police officer is mixed up with a peace officer "all police officers are peace officers, but all peace officers are not
police officers" (Walker & Katz, 2011). The principles that Sir Robert Peel set for the police include:
Police must be stable, efficient, and organized militarily (Bennett & Hess, 2007).

With the recent shooting death of Michael Brown in Ferguson, MO and the resulting riots, the aggressive actions taken by police units has been pulled
back into the spotlight, and law enforcement's right to use force has been drawn into deep debate. People are angry and cannot seem to understand why
the police use force when and where they do. The have come to equate the use of force with police brutality when in reality it is a system of steps that
are designed to protect innocent bystanders from potentially dangerous situations. The public's misunderstanding of use of force and how it is designed

the protests of his thirteen–year–old brother. Sadly, what this officer did not realize was that these children are exposed to traumatizing events exerted
by the police, which causes the fear. This fear can carry with them to adulthood, which may be why many teenagers and adults run when they see the

Police brutality is a very controversial topic in America. Some people think that the police are protecting their community and are doing whatever
it takes to keep them safe. On the other hand, a lot of Americans feel that the police are choosy, prejudice, and overall just unfair. Personally, I think
it depends on the situation at hand. I have read up on some cases that I felt that the police took advantage of their powers. I have also read a couple
of situations where I felt that their actions of brutality were justified. Police brutality is not a new topic in America. I have researched cases that

Numerous unjust losses covered by the media over recent years that involved African Americans and police officers are continuously dwelling in the
minds of many today. All of these incidents involved excessive force by officers and many involved racial profiling as well. Following these incidents,
many American's have vocalized their loss of trust with law enforcement officials through protest marches and riots. Everyone is demanding a solution
for healing these poor relations between police officers and African American communities.
Mass criminalization of victimless offenses are part of though the problem, as well as police weapons, though healing relations between police and the
people goes much deeper than that. First one would have to ask why there is generally a culture of distrust and trepidation between police and African
Americans.
From runaway slave catchers in the 19th century, to Jim Crow enforcers in the 1960's, to the drug war pillaging our communities, African–Americans
and police officers have never had a good relationship. The drug war of course is the bane on humanity period and isn't exclusive to
African–Americans, but in America it was formally introduced by the state into African–American communities. Longstanding research conducted by
the University of Florida indicated that "race plays a primary factor in attitudes towards the police, with blacks more likely than white to express
levels of dissatisfaction" (Rice and Piquero 1). For the peace and safety of everyone, it is important Americans make an effort to mend these strained

It's very true that most Americans tend not to look forward to having interactions with police officers. This isn't all surprising, of course. When

We see that police militarization has led police to take on a soldier–based mentality, as dressing the part is internalized in their heads that leads them to
doing or acting the part. In the pictures that came out of the Ferguson police surrounding unarmed African Americans and pointing their guns at them,
this tactic is not even used that way in the military. The military follows a strict order of escalation of force meaning the only time you are going to
point a weapon at someone is when you are going to pull the trigger. But we see that in Ferguson, policemen all over were pointing their guns at

Kirkwood police officers, who were white, would come into Meacham Park to "establish order" and often use racial profiling, surveillance and Stop

The victims who suffer of police brutality are traumatized and do not know who to trust after they have experienced such a heinous act against
them. It starts by recognizing that the United States has a problem with the use of excessive force in policing. Protests and riots are little effective.

Although the police are, for the most part, respected here in Victoria, Texas, there are always more things to be done in order to effectively create a
