MARILOU DONOR LAPUZ
WORLD CLASS PRESIDENT
One month has passed and more months to go! This July, has
been a colourful month for us since we have dedicated projects for
children. Cheers to our success! We would like to acknowledge the
spearheading efforts of PP Doc Jess Lim and PP Oscar Karaan and
the support of our club members.
On other matters, we have some aspects to improve. We have to
work some things on August especially that we observe August as
for Membership and Extension. Looking forward our club to
become more motivated and inspired which I know deep on us is
the service for others.
Let us be reminded, WE ARE GIFTS TO THE WORLD. Thank you
very much and more power.

RC PAG-ASA, QC celebrate 1st month of
new Rotary Year dedicated for Children
Rtn. Kenneth Jiro Agojo
There are several occasions that RC Pag-Asa, QC handled
dedicated for children for the month of July 2015. These are: July
2 at Kanawan, Morong, Bataan, July 5 at Holy Trinity Orphanage,
and the recent, 3. July 28 at Lupang Pangako Elementary School.
July 2 set the marks of the new school year and RC Pag-Asa QC
members donated several school supplies for the children. Aside
from the turn-over of the supplies, a simultaneous activity of
medical and dental missions were offered for the community.
And, yes, the signature food RC Pas-Asa QC has been served – the
PARES. Several doctors were also present.
July 5 is an activity in conjunction to the District’s Children’s
Day. The event was held at Holy Trinity Orphanage located at
Fairview, QC. Parlor Games were participated by the children and
Rotarians participated as well. Toys and schools supplies were
also turned over to the orphanage.
July 28 is the launch of the 3rd year of the Busog – Lusog –
Talino Program for selected 40 students at Lupang Pangako
Elementary School. It is now the 3rd year implementation of the
said program. The funds were turned over to the school.
With these activities, RC Pag-Asa QC club member once again
lend their time to be humble and express their gratitude by

This may sound unconventional but I am called the club’s First Lady Emeritus for
being the spouse of the Charter President and the first Club President of Rotary Club
of Pag-asa QC. I could have been just that, the spouse; but no, I am also, proudly, a
Charter member Rotarian.
The choice was mine, not compelled or obliged. It was at first just my concept of
solving the problem of how to get qualified and committed members to attend the
regular meetings and support the club’s projects. Speaking from experience, most
spouses attend the Rotary club meetings because the Rotarian spouse has to pick
her up from work on the way to the meeting venue. She gets to meet the other
spouses and stay until the meeting adjourns. I feel that it is time wasted but just a
step away from being there as a Rotarian, too. If all the members are married, then
the number of quality members doubles instantly. How awesome could that be?
Perhaps there was really this calling to serve humanity which I did not recognize at
the onset. Naturally, I found that this advocacy of service is worth my while. Having
the heart that feels the effects of poverty in life, it fuels the enthusiasm and passion
to serve and make a difference in the lives of the underprivileged fellowmen.
If the spouse is so into Rotary work, then follow the old adage “if you can’t lick
‘em, join ‘em”. This move encompasses the bonding moments, the quality and
quantity of togetherness time. You even get to start early imbibing the value of
service to your young children and grandchildren. Soon you will enjoy what your
spouse enjoys. Treasure every moment you share in life because time waits for no
one. Life is like running water that does not flow back so make life worthwhile by
spending time to do good not only for one’s self but for others too. As long as it is
physically possible, visit places you wish to visit including the places where your
spouse wishes to go. Enjoy the moments that you witness his goodness. Be grateful
that your spouse has the heart to serve and to help the needy. The more grateful you
are, the more you will enjoy your blessings. Time will surely be running out on us
and so now is the time to seize it. Meet up with friends, old and new; invite them to
Rotary because there are plenty to catch up. One of the great choices that you could
make is doing great service together because it connotes “the family that prays
together stays together”. Indeed, it works!

BIRTHDAY GREETING
Shake drill a success – MMDA
July 30, 2015 4:18 pm
BUSINESS MIRROR
The first synchronized earthquake drill held in Metro
Manila was a huge success, according to the Metropolitan
Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and the
Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology
(Phivolcs).
MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino gave the shake drill
a grade of 9 with 10 being the highest.
“This is not just a drill fulfilled, but a dream fulfilled,”
Tolentino said.
At exactly 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, sirens blared to
signal the start of the earthquake drill.
It was followed by “pandemonium”, wherein participants
including construction workers did the “duck, cover and
hold” drill.
The Metro Manila Disaster Risk and Reduction Council
(MMDRRMC) chaired by Tolentino set up a command
conference at the Aseana grounds along Diosdado
Macapagal Avenue in Pasay City.
After the drill, Tolentino convened the MMDRRMC,
which was attended by representatives from various
concerned government agencies. Officials and
representatives from the diplomatic community also
attended the briefing.
Tolentino said when a “Big One” hits the metropolis,
foreign dignitaries shall be airlifted to a safe place in
Tagaytay City.

MEET ROTARY’S NEW PRESIDENT
This excerpt from the July issue of the Rotarian Magazine profiles the 2015-2016 RI President
Before he gives a speech, K.R. Ravindran doesn’t like flowery, adulatory introductions.
They make him uncomfortable. The 2015-16 Rotary President would rather keep a low
profile and share the credit. If it were up to him, you probably wouldn’t even be reading
this article.
Negotiating Days of Tranquillity during the Sri Lankan Civil War so that health workers
could administer drops of polio vaccine? Although it was on his desk that the agreement
landed, he says, a lot of people worked to make that happen. Rebuilding 23 tsunami-
damaged schools for 14000 children? He merely led the committee. Taking a label-
printing business from a small outfit operating in a space the size of a garage to a global
powerhouse in the packaging business that has helped change the value-add tea
industry in his country? Well, he simply happened to be in the right place at the right
time.
“I sometimes introduced as a self-made man’, says Ravindran, a member of the
Rotary Club of Colombo. ‘You’ve got to be utterly egocentric to believe you are self-
made. Each one of us is made because so many people helped us become who we are.
“:One of the reasons I work so much for Rotary is that I have been helped by so many
people, and often you never have the chance to reciprocate”, he explains. “The only way
you can is by helping others. When the people I help ask me, ‘What can I do?, I say. ‘Go
and help someone in return.”
For Ravindrda, paying it forward isn’t a fad, it’s a way of life. His theme for the Rotary
Year, Be a Gift to the World, also summarizes his personal philosophy.

A CALL FOR ACTION IN THE FACE OF AN ANEMIC ATTENDANCE
It is sad to note that for the past several meetings in July, 2015 RC Pag-asa
Quezon City was not able to muster a good and respectable attendance during
its regular meetings.
Indeed, it was not only anemic but it is obviously pathetic considering that
being the start of the Rotary Year 2015 to 2016 the record of attendance for
the regular meetings of the club is expected to be high. Maybe it is a clear
reflection of the utter lack of interest of many Pag-asians to campaign for a
good attendance record. On the other hand, it may appear already to be a
warning signal to the members that the club is haemorrhaging and is about to
die.
Whatever is the reason there is no question is that the club attendance is
quite alarming and the same should goad all the officers and the Pag-asians to
do something drastic about it otherwise the club may just wither away and die
its natural death.
Of course, this author does not want to be alarmist at this stage and thus,
sound the warning bell to signal the impending demise of the club. However,
any true-blooded Pag-asian would not accept such unfortunate situation and
let his club remain stagnant and continuously suffer. This author firmly
believes that the President and her officers can no longer afford to relax and
remain confident in the face of the said dwindling attendance of the club.
Enough is enough and that something drastic and urgent should be done in
order to make RC Pag-asa, Quezon City a strong, vibrant, alive and a
functioning club again.
It bears stressing that the club has a long history of successes and excellent
performances in the past and its present officers and members should not
allow themselves to taint its good record and magnificent image in the district
by simply doing nothing when the time calls for a decisive and concrete action.
Remember it is basic and elementary that no Pag-asian will allow himself to
fail his president and the club, hence, this author is therefore sincerely
appealing to each and every member of the club to do something positive in
order to remedy the said dangerous situation.
Pag-asians, the future of the club lies in your hands as well as its eventual
demise, thus, the choice is yours to make. Thank you and good day.
