2. The Salvation Army was founded in London, England in 1865 by former Methodist minister William Booth. Booth abandoned the conventional concept of a church and a pulpit, instead taking his message of spiritual salvation directly to the people – in particular the homeless, the hungry, and the destitute of Victorian-era London. 14. My father came to America in 1968 from Cuba. On his way here he had nothing to claim but the clothes on his back. No toys, no pictures, no memories. At the age of 9, he remembers the warm loving faces of The Salvation Army team. Dressed in bright red, this amazing group provided my father and his family with shelter as soon as they arrived and new toys for Christmas. My father would always share with my family this story of how the Salvation Army was the biggest blessing they received coming to America. My Personal Connection
