2. Experiment Set-up:
• Scientists at Tufts university and Harvard University’s
Wyss institute believed that with using the right drug
cocktail they would be able to trigger the regrowth of
lost body tissues.
• They used African clawed frogs with missing legs.
• they covered the wound with a silicone cap, called
BioDome for 24 hours, which contains a silk protein
gel filled with a five-drug cocktail.
3. Results
• After the 24 hours treatment with the BioDome,
scientists observed for months a remarkable
regeneration of the lost limbs.
• The growth period was only over 18 months.
• The new regrown limb responded to external stimuli,
like touch.
4. What does that mean for other species?
• This discovery gave scientists a big reason to believe that perhaps
other animal species may also have dormant regenerative cells that can
be triggered by using just the right drug cocktail
• Their next target is mammals!
