2. Introduction:
As a student experiencing online
learning for the first time, I struggled
with the challenges of homeschooling, a
new concept for me. Adjusting to this
unfamiliar routine, I often found myself
anxious and shy in this electronic
environment.
Zayed University students have been
facing difficulties due to the sudden
shift to online learning and the Minerva
system. This transition has been a
significant adjustment, impacting
student communication, participation,
and creating technical issues.
3. The problem
The reduced face-to-face interactions in
online classrooms have left many
students feeling overwhelmed and, at
times, hesitant to participate due to
shyness (Mohd Basar et al., 2021 ). These
challenges, coupled with the
introduction of the Minerva system,
have contributed to heightened stress
levels among Zayed University students.
4. • In-person classes facilitate communication
• Students:
⚬ Learn more
⚬ Engage more
⚬ Understand content better
• Physical resources improve learning:
⚬ Health/wellness
⚬ Life skills like leadership
⚬ A 2023 study published that in-person classes improve
understanding, engagement, and the overall learning
environment (Photopoulos et al., 2023)."
Reviving On-Campus Classes
5. • Academic assistance helps address diverse
needs and boost success
• Mental health services combat stress and
improve motivation
• A comprehensive support system enables
students to thrive
• University life can negatively impact motivation,
limit academic progress, and increase university
dropout rates due to stress (Barbayannis et al.,
2022)
Supporting Student Wellbeing
6. Conclusion
In conclusion, the challenges posed by the shift to online learning are
opportunities for us to grow and adapt. By prioritizing both on-campus
classes and mental health and academic support services, Zayed University
can create a more resilient learning environment. These solutions align with
our commitment to holistic student development and prepare us for the
evolving landscape of education.
