3. ROCK
Rock is naturally occurr
ing solid aggregate of one
or more minerals.
The rocks are of differ
ent colours and hardness.
4.
5. TYPES OF ROCKS
There are 3 types of rocks.
Igneous rocks
Sedimentary rocks
Metamorphic rocks
6. IGNEOUS ROCKS
Rocks are formed by
Molten rock materials
rising through the
fissures in the crust.
7.
8. SEDIMENTARY ROCKS
The debris formed due to
different changes will be
deposited in low regions as
layers and these lithified and
transformed in to sedimentary
ary rocks.
9.
10. METAMORPHIC ROCKS
The rocks formed due
to physical and chemical
changes due to high
temperature are called
metamorphic rocks.
11.
12. WEATHERING
Weathering is the breaking
down of rocks, soil and
minerals as well as artificial
materials through contact
with earth’s atmosphere.
13.
14. TYPES OF WEATHERING
There are three types of weathering.
Physical/Mechanical weathering.
Chemical weathering.
Biological weathering.
17. CHEMICAL WEATHERING
The gases like oxygen,
Carbon dioxide, water etc read
with the minerals and result in the
chemical decom
position of rocks are called
chemical weathering.
18.
19. BIOLOGICAL WEATHERING
The plant roots penetrating in
to fissures in rocks, borrowing
of animals, decomposition of
plants and human activities
cause weathering and it is called
biological weathering.
