Nail Salon Procedure
3 Things to Consider when Buying a Pedicure Chair for a Nail Salon Manicures and pedicures used
to be services offered by all beauty salons. However, as this industry evolved, it is now very
common to find salons that are dedicated solely to nail care. The main reasons why these salons are
preferred by customers is due to the fact that they keep up with the latest nail design trends, and they
use the most modern nail care equipment. The pedicure chair is perhaps the most important piece of
equipment for such a salon, as its quality can make the pedicure experience more enjoyable for the
customer. So, if you own a nail salon, you need to be very careful when buying this chair. Here are
the main factors that you need to consider! 1. The manufacturer As a rule of thumb, it is always
advised to buy from a local manufacturer. This way, if the product breaks, you can easily find
replacement parts. Moreover, the products produced in the USA tend to be of higher quality than the
ones produced overseas. If you are looking for a recommendation, consider J&A USA. They have
been on the market for over 10 years, and they are among the best pedicure chair manufacturers in
the world. On https://www.jausainc.com/ you can find a wide variety of pedicure thrones, as well as
other high quality spa equipment. 2. The features ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, modern pedicure thrones integrate a lot of fancy features, which can really make a
difference both for you and the customer. For example, a pipe–less system will help you sanitize the
basin with less effort, and it will also keep the customer satisfied, knowing that they mustn't worry
about bacteria and diseases. Many of these chairs also integrate different types of massage systems.
Shiatsu and human touch massages are the ones that deliver the most relaxing experiences, so if you
are going to buy a massage chair, make sure it integrates these massage

Kelly's Salon
Usability refers to the caliber of a user's [Kelly or Kelly's employees] experience while interacting
with the system (Microsoft, n.d.). The system should be easy to learn for all Kelly's salon personnel
to accomplish basic customer scheduling tasks. The system should have an intuitive design to
ensure simple and effortless navigation of the system to expedite tasks in the customer scheduling
process. The system should be efficient to allow all Kelly's salon personnel to quickly schedule
customers without compromising the salon's business standards.
Maintainability is the ability of a system to easily undergo change (Microsoft, n.d.). In Kelly's case,
maintainability determines the rate at which the salon's system can be restored to full operation.
Maintainability will allow the customer scheduling process to be efficient due to both software and
hardware updates done on the system. Maintainability will facilitate consistency in customer

that the customer appointment scheduling process requires entry of sensitive customer information
such as PII. The system should also require authentication to make changes during the customer

Benefits Of Attracting A Diverse Pool Of Potential Candidates
Recruitment
Elibah Bey
Kaplan University
In this paper, I will identify the challenges and benefits of attracting a diverse pool of potential
candidates; and explain the hiring process of a diverse workforce, the reason, and importance of the
process for my beauty salon business. Eli's Beauty Services is an imaginary business that I plan to
have someday in the future. I will also discuss three job positions, titles, specifications, pay, and job
descriptions for each one; in order to operate my business. Furthermore, I will explain how and
where I plan to advertise for these three positions to collect an application pool to interview and the
reasons associated with my decision.
Benefits and challenges of diversity
According to Longenecker, Petty, Palich, & Hoy (2013), workforce diversity is the "differences
among employees in the dimensions of gender, age, race, and ethnicity". Differences among
employees can be challenging and beneficial in a business. The benefits of attracting a diverse pool
of candidates are; "improved effective recruitment methods, good relations maintenance with
increasing heterogeneous customer base, varying perspectives to bear on business challenges,
workplace innovation, and positive problem solving" capabilities (Longenecker & Petty, et al.,
2013, p. 538). These benefits all contribute to the overall success of an organization.
On the other hand, the challenges associated with attracting a diverse pool of applicants are; "human

Interview Analysis : Dehra Battle
The entrepreneur that I choose to interview was, Dehra Battle. She is the owner and stylist at her
own salon called, Hair Savvy Hair and Nail Salon. The salon opened up on the Spring of 2010. I
have known Dehra for the past 10 years. She has been my personal hair stylist for the last 10 years.
Being a close family friend, I have seen her trials and tribulations with opening her own salon. I
choose Dehra, because she is a wonderful and hard working woman, who put her passion for
helping others with self esteem by creating signature styles that will give any woman the confidence
to feel like she owns the room. Dehra was not satisfied with working under a salon owner who was
not concerned about the workers safety and customer satisfaction. She wanted to be in control and
create an environment that customers would love to attend regularly.
Her personal background played a tremendous part of her in her desires of becoming an
entrepreneur. Dehra's mother was a nail tech part time for a majority of her childhood. Being in this
environment for a strong portion of her life, she developed a passion for the art of beauty. Seeing
first hand of how the beauty world can make a woman feel and how much she would spend to
obtain that feeling was gravitating. Getting older she began her start at learning how to do hair. In
high school, her high school had a vocational program for people interested in earning their
cosmetology licensed, STNA certificate, and etc. Dehra received her

Quote For Salon Anthem
SALON ETIQUETTE ~
A few years ago, a good friend from Los Angeles came to Anthem for a haircut. She was traveling
to another country and needed something edgy but easy to care for. "Something new!" she told me
during our consultation and together we found a perfect cut for her.
When it came time to pay, I ran her credit card and handed her the machine to enter the tip amount.
She handed it back to me. "I want you to decide how much you deserve."
I stood there, shocked. "No,no," I said. "It's up to you how much you want to tip."
"But I want you to decide what you think you're worth."
By now, my blood pressure was soaring and I felt the onset of a stress induced migraine. "Then I'm
putting down one thousand dollars."
"If you feel you deserve that much. I'm happy to pay whatever you enter."
I was confused by my friend's behavior and odd request. "Here," I said handing her the machine.
"YOU decide how much you want to give," and I walked away. After being in the beauty industry

Furthermore, you deserve someone who will give you their undivided attention ~ not gossip with
other stylists, talk on their phone, or take excessive smoke breaks. Though you are paying for the

also deserve a thorough consultation every time. Needs change, hair changes ~ so even a 3–5 minute
consult can mean the difference between mediocre and outstanding results. Discuss what worked
and didn't work with your last visit; any new directions you'd like to go with your cut and possible
color options. Bring pictures to show your short and long–term goals. Are you taking a much needed

How to Start a Beauty Salon
How to Start a Beauty Salon
Have you always dreamed of being successful in the beauty business? Here 's how to launch and
establish your very own beauty salon.
Small Business Liability
Setting up Shop
1. Figure out how much money you need. Starting a business can cost a lot of money, and most
entrepreneurs don 't turn a profit for the first year or two. Here 's what to consider: Franchises under
$10,000 Franchises for less than $10K. 100 's of low cost franchises.

Experience may give a beautician the expertise to render treatment, but, without proper training, she
would be unaware of the merits and demerits of procedures. Have a short but clear salon procedures
manual in place as soon as you can, and give each employee a contract when they start. These
documents are usually easy to find on the internet and you can then customize them to your
business. It will save you a lot of headaches in the long run if you are set up properly at the
beginning.
Welcoming Clients
1. Create a clean and safe atmosphere. Salons thrive on an environment that is clean, safe and
relaxing, where customers can receive prompt and professional service. Cleanliness is a particularly
important element that can draw clients in again and again. Be sure your towels, foot baths, and
other equipment's are washed, clean and odor–free.
Keep your tools sharp and current. Your clients must be able to trust that the products and tools that
you use on them are of top–notch quality and safe. You cannot afford to put your clients at risk from
infections, as it could damage your reputation. Make the atmosphere relaxing. Play soft music, use
gentle lighting and keep loud chatter between your employees at a minimum.
2. Offer a wide range of services (optional). This could give you a distinct advantage over those who
offer only one or two types of services. Many clients prefer to

Personal Narrative-Dumping
When you look at the brick that is The Mime Order, you're bound to be intimidated. Intimidation
festers into stress which then turns into my favourite pastime–feigning ignorance. AKA pretending
that it doesn't exists until the very last second, further perpetuating stress levels and ensuring
bounteous hair loss (how I still have hair is beyond me. My babies fall out like I'm a shitzu and it's
shedding season come early.) Against all odds (or perhaps not, I've been known to look past info
dumping), I adored The Bone Season to bits. The world was delectable, albeit fed in plentiful doses.
The characters delightful tragic, dark and mysterious. The circumstances dismal and layered in
political lies. But a girl doesn't forget info dump, not such ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

I know y'all. Let me ease that curiosity. While some were repelled by the romance in The Bone
Season, I rather enjoyed it. Because it employed the whole antagonism to lust and lastly, to care
(that's right kiddos, I won't say love. I didn't think it was love by any means. Not the whole crazy let
me throw myself in front of a train even though, hey ho, I lived millenniums without knowing you.)
Warden is a mysterious figure. With semi questionable intentions, which were, I suppose, good at
heart (hey now, I'm not justifying anything that he's done). He's not a good man. Far from it. He
watched as his race kidnapped and enslaved humans. He was passive throughout, bidding his time.
He didn't agree with the methods, with the radicalism, but he wasn't an active saviour. Warden sees
the bigger picture. He wants liberation for all. He wants that unattainable greater good, the idealistic
vision. And he's not afraid to sacrifice a few lambs here and there on his way there. They're a means
to an end. But Paige kind of completes him. I won't say change because she doesn't, not really. But
having Paige there has meant that Warden's widened his horizons, learnt to see the glass both ways–
half empty and full. And that's all you can ask for, really. So the romance in The Mime Order? It had
me oozing all over the place because it was vague, slow burning, an exploration of feelings that
were so pumped with lust but also inclusive of care. There's an

Summary Of The Enlightenment Salons
Dr. Dena Goodman is an American historian and Professor of History and Women's Studies at the
University of Michigan. Her most notable publications include The Republic of Letters: A Cultural
History of the French Enlightenment (1994) and Becoming a Woman in the Age of Letters (2009).
In her article, "Enlightenment Salons: The Convergence of Female and Philosophic Ambition,"
(1989) Dena Goodman stresses the pivotal role of women, as salonnières, in the transformation and
governance of eighteenth–century French Enlightenment salons, which were the base of the
philosophes' pursuit of the Enlightenment project; furthermore, Goodman argues the reciprocal
successes of the Republic of Letters and the Enlightenment salons was fostered by their ... Show

The motivations were various and complex, from trying to advance from social dissipation to trying
to supplement the education that was denied to them as children.
However, as illustrated by eighteenth century–French theologian and moralist, Jacques–Joseph
Duget, there was a perception of frivolous and licentious salon women in the seventeenth–century
corrupting society, particularly by feminizing men. Salons in the eighteenth–century had evolved
from this, now trying to revive society through the philosophes' Republic of Letters.
The salons were reclaimed from aristocracy and utilized by the philosophes as a space of
collaboration and intellectual exchange, fostering Enlightenment ideas, particularly egalitarianism.
Salons were characterized by the acknowledged equality among the participants as well as the birth
of intellectual practice as a valuable interest. The serious tone of the salon as a workspace provided
philosophes with the environment necessary to spread the ideals of the Enlightenment, including the
involvement of women in the enlightened community. The Republic of Letters developed
complementarily with the salon's social, institutional advancements, mirroring the interconnectivity
of philosophes and salonnières alike in the Enlightenment project. Epistolary networks of
intellectual discussion and the continued exchange of letters was vital to the growth and
characterization of the Republic of

Division in Diversity United States is a place with diversity and it is a place where opportunities are

people tend to divide themselves into groups based on culture and they often use this division in
organizations that they create. Wanting to research why this division is created I chose Maldi Beauty

As you enter the Salon you can practically tell it is an Indian Salon through its scent. I'm not
dividing areas based on smell, but overall when you enter you'll almost smell the Indian culture with
"henna", a form of temporary Indian tattoo used on women on their wedding or other celebratory
occasions. The salon also does not fail to hide its culture background as it welcomes all Indians or
any other south Asian cultural women into their salon. The sofas set up there for waiting customers
are shiny with bright colors, colors that signify happiness as they are also used for brides' dresses or
the color outline for wedding locations. The salon uses these colors to welcome the fellow brides or
people wanting to get ready for weddings to come to the salon for grooming. Walking further inside
the salon towards the waiting area there is a small television set up on the wall facing the sofas. The
television solely plays Indian music videos welcoming more Indians into their salon. My first
impression of that salon was captured as a discomforting social setting, although I share almost the
same culture as Indians, seeing how closed off it was solely to the Indian community made me
wonder their acceptance towards other cultures. It was not just the decorations that led up to my
negative behavior towards the salon, but it was also the lack of diversity among workers. As you
walk in to the salon, you'll hear all these workers talking to each other in Hindi, or similar language,
making the customer feel awkward and unwelcomed. Although they were very welcoming to me on
my first visit, I didn't really pay attention to the other females, or other races coming in, my first
judgment was they were only this friendly because I might share similar cultural values. I felt as if
other customers were to hear them they

Nail Salon Research
Important Facts About Professional Manicures
Most of us think of the local nail salon as a place to pamper ourselves in luxury and relax for thirty
minutes to an hour. The nail salon is glamorous and seduces women with the glitz, polish, sparkle,
and glow into their doors. However, danger lurks in quite a few of those nail salons. The surprising
fact is that nail salons are hotbeds of germs, filled with unsanitary conditions that might affect your
health and well–being. Here are a few tips to keep in mind, on your next visit to the nail salon.
Talk Honestly To Your Technician
1. Don't just flop down in the chair and let the technician have their way with your nails and toes.
Instead, speak up. An open line of communication between the nail technician and customer is vital
to receiving the type of service that is desires. Make sure that the technician understands your
desires and requirements. For example, sanitary tools and clean conditions. Keeping quiet leads to
miscommunication and the chance for catching germs. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Request Information About Sanitary Conditions
Don't hesitate to ask your technician about the sanitary conditions in the salon. Ask about the
techniques used to sanitize their instruments. For example, do they use disinfectants or a heated
device to sterilize tools and kill germs. If they refuse, get up and leave the salon. A salon that refuses
to discuss their sanitation methods is hiding something.
3. Are They Wearing Gloves
Did you know that the majority of nail technicians do not wear gloves? It's quite true. A salon that
takes time to make sure the technicians wear gloves, rates high on cleanliness. Gloves reduce the
transfer of germs.
4. Beware Yucky Floor Conditions
A floor filled with dirt and grime is a bad sign. Always check out the floors before even requesting

The ability to cut and color hair in a way that flatters clients ensures repeat visits and more money
for the stylist! Regardless of the stylist's other positive attributes, if he or she doesn't have technical
skill, customers won't return.
Valued stylists adapt to new trends instead of resisting them. They are constantly educating
themselves on new styling tools, haircuts and coloring methods. Many clients want the latest
hairstyle or color they've seen online or in a magazine, and if the stylist doesn't know about trends,
the customer will go elsewhere.
Also, they aren't fazed by cancellations, rebookings, and changes in the salon atmosphere.
A stylist with creativity, in addition to technical skill, can attract and keep many clients. Instead of
merely cutting hair, a creative stylist suggests styles that may be better for te client than what they
had originally requested. Creative stylists go the extyra mile to give clients what they need, instead
of what they want.

Professional Use And Consumer Use Products
Within both professional–use and consumer–use products, there are some differences, but nothing
that will give a distinct comparison. Professional–use products are only sometimes directed to be
used by salon professionals, not by the average user. Consumer–use products are distributed more to
the drugstores, and retailers that then disperse them to the public. In fact any product in retailers
would be considered a consumer–use product. Why are there differences? There are differences
between these two sub–categories of products because some can be stronger and more effective than
the others. If a woman walks into her local drugstore claiming to have a certain skin condition, she
most likely uses her own knowledge and what is labeled on the package of the products she is
intrigued by. These products are made with less active ingredients, so if the women chooses the
wrong product for her skin type, there won 't be as much irritation. In fact, most consumer–use
products are mostly composed of "fillers" and a small amount of the active ingredient. Even though
it may mention this ingredient, having trace amounts of it will lead to minimal results. Some of
these items are not even made to go below the skin's surface which allows for little to no effects on
the skin. A good amount of these consumer–use products include eye–catching labels with
expressions showing how well they work they are because of their components, but most of these
claims are false because the small doses of

Diderot 's Critique On Art And Public Of The Eighteenth...
Diderot's critique stands out among other artistic critiques of the eighteenth century in the way he
manages to engage not only what is on the canvas, but also in the way he is able to instill each
composition's elements with significance in a greater context. Diderot's critic of Hubert Robert's
work, among others, in The Salon of 1767 serves as a lesson for both artists and observers. His
writing engages both groups through exploration of the role antiquity, imagination, and temporality
play in the creation and viewership of art. In doing so, Diderot defines what made the art and public
of the eighteenth century unique.
The new archaeological discoveries of the eighteenth century reinvigorated public interest in
antiquity, and Diderot was no exception to this trend. Diderot observes, "One rarely becomes a great
writer, a great man of letters, or a man of remarkable taste without having made a close study of the
ancients." Both the observer and artist must pay close attention to lessons from antiquity to properly
understand concepts of beauty and the ideal. However, this is does not mean Diderot condones
artists' imitation of ancient art. To Diderot, copying the ancients will never bring contemporary
artists to the level of beauty of antiquity . Instead, artists and viewers should use the ancient mode to
engage the contemporary .
Painters of ruins should be sure to paint ruins with accuracy, so that the viewer cannot mistake the
period and civilization of the ruin's

The Concept Of Discourse Community
Life is like a massive highway that have infinite routes anyone can choose take to reach some type
of designated goal. Those various routes lead to distinct exits, where one can discover a group or
groups that share similarities dealing with viewpoints, beliefs, or understanding towards a particular
goal. These groups can be identified as discourse communities. According to, "The Concept of
Discourse Community," in the textbook, Writing About Writing, John Swales stressed that in order
to be classified as a discourse community the group has to have all six defining characteristics.
Swales emphasized, "A discourse community has a broadly agreed set of common public goals,
mechanisms of intercommunication among its members, uses its participatory mechanisms
primarily to provide information and feedback, utilities and hence processes one or more genres in
the communicative furtherance of its aims, acquires specific lexis, and has a threshold level of
members with a suitable degree of relevant content and discourse expertise" (Swales, 221–222).
Keeping this key detail in mind, there is numerous type of discourse out there.
An example of a discourse community I choose to talk about in this paper is the JPS Nail Salon
located near Elvis Presley Boulevard. I recently became a part of this particular discourse
community group by volunteering to help out on the weekends. I thought it would be interesting to
dig a little deeper as to how discourse community works out as a whole.

Chemical Relaxing Research Paper
Chemical Relaxing
Chemical relaxing is the process of making curly hair straight. When you relax curled hair you have
to use a type of lotion or cream with a chemical ammonium thioglycolate that you put all over the
hair which is in most relaxing products and it help relax the curls and straightens the natural curls.
Chemical relaxers break your hair's bonds and reset your hair.
Relaxing your hair can help boost your morale by making unruly, wavy hair easier to style and
wash. However, relaxing can potentially damage your hair. There are ways to minimize these
damaging effects. Chemical straightening or relaxing treatments work in the same way as a reverse
perm. However, instead of using the solution to curl straight hair, it's used to permanently straighten
curly hair. Hair relaxers are available in two types: lye and no–lye. The solution is put on at the

Is your hair dry and damaged and you just don't know what to do with it? With salon treatments and

starts from your daily routine. Formulating treatments in the comfort of your own home without

Causes of Damaged Hair
The most common type of damaged hair is caused by chemicals. Harsh chemicals, perms, color
treatments, and bleach are big contributors to your damaged hair. These chemicals strip your hair of
their natural moisture and protein, leaving your hair weak and brittle. With excessive usage of these
harsh chemicals, your hair may chip or even shed more rapidly that you would like. While combing
your hair is a true importance, there is such thing as over combing. Excessively combing your hair
can put a strain on your hair, leaving it damaged. Direct heat on your hair definitely causes split
ends and damaged hair. Using heat– stimulated styling products can diminish the proteins that keep
your hair luscious. Direct sunlight is usually not the case for damaged hair if your hair has not been

than competitors, The Salon may be able to set higher prices without fearing losing customers.
Specifically, The Salon should create different levels for any service if possible. For example, for
pedicure, it should create three or four levels such as basic, deluxe, elite with the price and margin
increases as the level increases. The increase can be justified because the high level of service offers
more,e.g. the elite pedicure has hot rock massage on feets while the others do not. In another way to
differentiate is to increase the value offered in the service, for example, offering free toe nail
art/design when customers have both manicure and pedicure services.
By the same token. it is recommended that The Salon creates service bundles that are compelling to
customers and perceived as good value. The bundles would create differentiation that helps The
Salon stand above the competitors. Better differentiation would allow attract more customers and
The Salon can set a higher profit margin without fear of competition of the identical service. One
example of bundling services is the top–to–bottom bundle that includes eyebrow lip waxing,
manicure, and pedicure with a price that less than if individual service is performed separately.

Personal Narrative: Make-Up
From the moment I looked at my friend's brush pile in the bathroom, my intimidation towards
make–up grew larger. I was trying to approach it from the angle of painting lesson's in my
childhood: small brush for small strokes and big brushes for wide strokes? But it didn't end at that!
The more I looked the more a realized that some of the big, thick brushes were angled, some of
them pointy... I didn't find peace by studying small brushes either. I felt dumbfounded, lost and
couldn't even begin to think about make–up itself, blocked off at the very doorstep to beauty. As
time went on, many lessons from my friend and YouTube videos later, I started to see light in the

Passion For Cosmetology
Getting into the cosmetology field has always been something I have been interested in. So for my
passion project I wanted to "perfect" a balayage. Which is almost looks like an ombre, the difference
is that we weave through your hair, so you see some highlights are up higher and the bottom half is
all lighter. I did something similar to my friend's hair but with red instead. I got it down pretty fast
and then she wanted a blonde balayage. For me to do this I need to understanding color
choices, which mesh well with the color she has now, how fast does he hair take (how fast will the
bleach show), last but not least is measurements. Measurements is a key factor in dying hair because
the client wants a certain color. (Research) In Vero Color

My Experience At Hair Savvy Hair And Nail Salon
The entrepreneur I interviewed was, Dehra Battle. She is the owner and stylist at Hair Savvy Hair
and Nail Salon. The salon opened up on the Spring of 2010. I have known Dehra for the past 10
years. She has been my personal hair stylist for the last 10 years. Being a close family friend, I have
witnessed her trials and tribulations with being an entrepreneur. I choose Dehra, because she is a
wonderful and hard working woman; she has a passion for helping others with self esteem by
creating signature styles that will give any woman the confidence. Dehra was not satisfied with
working under a salon owner who was not concerned about the workers safety and customer
satisfaction. She wanted to be in control and create an environment that customers would love to
attend regularly. Her personal background played a tremendous part of her in her desire of becoming
an entrepreneur. Dehra's mother was a nail tech part time for a the majority of her childhood. Being
in this environment for a strong portion of her life, she developed a passion for the art of beauty
services. As she got older she began to start learning how to do hair. She attended a high school that
had a vocational program for where students could earn their cosmetology license, STNA
certificate, and etc. Dehra received her cosmetology license while in high school. After graduation
from high school, she worked in several shops where she trained under some of the top stylists of
Cleveland. She became the salon manager

Essay on tipping
Tipping Experiences
Tips are generally a small amount of money given to a person as gratitude for a service that has been
provided. There are many times throughout our everyday lives in which we are put in a position to
leave a gratuity. Whether it be dining at a restaurant, getting your hair cut at the salon, or having a
few drinks with friends at a bar. In each case there was a service provided to you, now you have a
decision to make, how much of a tip is considered acceptable and should you tip everyone that
provides a service to you? There are many guidelines for consumers to follow. With modern
technology there are convenient tip calculators available as features on most new cellular phones.
When deciding on the tip amount the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
"Tips are accepted not expected" not always the case. In certain restaurants management will
automatically generate a 18% gratuity when there are larger parties being served. In a recent article
on the 1010 wins.com website ( "tip dispute leads to arrests at soprano's" )the reporter tells of a
story where people actually got arrested because they refused to pay the mandatory 18% tip. At
some point consumers should have the right to draw the line when it comes to tipping. Michael
Lewis says " our natural and admirable reluctance to enter into the spirit of the thing causes the
thing to lose whatever value it had in the first place"(23). Tip amounts should not be mandated by
the size of the party. A gratuity should remain based upon the quality of the service that was
provided.
Many people have lasting relationships with their salon technicians and other professionals such as a
favorite restaurant's staff, and the mechanic. For example when getting your hair cut or a manicure
you tend to stay loyal to one technician due to the fact that he or she does a wonderful job. Tips for
these people should be consistent and most importantly appropriate. If someone does an amazing
job for you every time you visit then they are deserving of a good tip. The holidays are a good time
to be generous with the people who served you satisfactorily all through the year.
In conclusion , tips have

Salon Success Summary
I just finished reading Salon Success, by Pivot Point. This book was a pretty fun read and taught me
quite a few things I didn't already know like what the 80/20 Rule is or how to get clients in the door
and keep them coming in. It also refreshed my memory on things I already knew, like body
language, listening, and time saving strategies. This book covers different topics in each chapter and
explains each topic thoroughly.
Chapter one is titled Respect. In this chapter, it explains the three different kinds of respect. Self–
respect "I Like myself." pg 5, self–esteem "I believe in myself and in my ability to make my way in
this world." pg 5, and mutual respect "I have the confidence to live authentically and to recognize
and appreciate the positive qualities of others." pg 5. This was a useful chapter in the way of
breaking things down into smaller pieces and having charts to refer back to and explain each kind of
respect, as well as give examples. The chart on pg 8 was extremely helpful because it spelled out the
word Respect and told us what each letter in the word stands for. "R–relitibility, E–enthusiasm, S–
sincerity, P–persistence, E–emotional balance, C–consideration, T–trustworthiness." pg 8. Lastly,
there is a page for each type of respect and it gives examples and a thorough definition of each one.
One that is particularly important to me is enthusiasm because I find that showing you really care
and really like your job through your voice and body language is

A Short Story : A Story?
Oh God, what was that hideous noise? Katelynn pried her eyes open. Where was she? The room was
almost pitch black. Slivers of moonlight peeked through the blinds and illuminated the floor, just
enough for her to see clothes piled up. Clothes. Where were her clothes? How had she wound up on
the floor? And why wouldn't that awful noise shut up? Noise. That was her phone! She crawled
across the floor, sliding her hand under the bed, under the shirts, the jeans. Jeans. Wait, were those
her jeans? Yes! She pulled them closer and ran her hand through the pockets. No phone. She bit her
lip and looked around, her eyes had adjusted a little. She made out the outline of a recliner and
started towards it. She remembered now, sort of, hadn't she been sitting on that recliner last night? A
deep snore from the bed caused startled her. She soundleslly stood up and looked at the bed. She
saw the silhouette of a man's body under a sheet. She slid her jeans on quietly. The phone started
ringing again. She spied the light of it shining from the corner of the recliner. Her memory hadn't
been wrong, she had been sitting there at some point last night. She dug between the smooth leather
back and seat cushion. "Hello?" Katelynn whispered, while she scanned the floor for her missing
shirt. "Hello, I'm looking for Katelynn Mackenna?" "Yes!" Katelynn squealed as she grabbed her
shirt from the floor. The man in the bed stirred. Katelynn froze. She stood motionless, her breath

Nir's Dichotomy
In Nir's discussions of the mistreatment of nail salon workers, an important issue has been partially
overlooked. As the author herself puts it, "Away from the manicure tables they crash in flophouses
packed with bunk beds, or in fetid apartments shared by as many as a dozen strangers" (Nir, 2015).
She explains the dichotomy between their work worlds and their home worlds in a descriptive and
disgusting manner, but it still does not seem to be enough. This is generally as deep as the author
goes into the home lives of these workers, she gives two examples and moves on. In my opinion,
this is not enough. I believe that in order to have truly conveyed the severity of these women's
plights Nir should have provided far more detail into how nail ... Show more content on

these kinds of housing areas, or is she were to speak to more than three ladies, her information on
the housing situation would be more detailed and informative, but also more statistically significant.

appalling the numbers are, I cannot readily agree with her data, no matter how strongly I support her

My First Day In School
On a stormy Monday morning, a girl wakes up and barely drags herself out of bed and forces her
small feet across the hallway and into the bathroom. The girl steps on top of her step stool and stares
back at the mirror. With tired eyes she stares at the dark skin, dark eyes, and dark cornrows covered
with her favorite colorful hair beads, looking back at her. She smiles at her rainbow colored hair and
shakes her head with a giggle as she hears the beads shake around, going about her morning routine
as usual. She brushes her teeth with her Disney princess toothbrush, showers, gets dressed and gets
ready for another day.
She walks into her classroom, on her first day of elementary, with a bounce in her step as her hair
beads hit off each other, only to be stopped by the still and cold air that greets her. The class full of
light skin and straight hair stared back with confused, and slightly disgusted, eyes. Whispers flood
the room like the tides of a tsunami. As she looks around the room she sees everyone gawking at her
cornrows and the beads that hang off of them.

who you are and what you have put into the company. It feels like you are a new employee and
nothing you have done in the past will show how much dedication or vision you have that helped

As Clardy (2012) states, there are numerous issues that new managers or supervisors can have when

There are actions customers can take to make sure the salon they will be getting their nails done at
will be a clean and safe place for them. Dr. David A. Johnson talked with Daryl Nelson and made
the statement that "no one should accept on blind trust that a business is taking the necessary steps
to prevent transmission of blood–borne infections such as hepatitis." Clients can ask for SDS's,
cleaning logs, and see licenses of nail technicians to check by themselves to see if the surrounding
areas look right and if they feel comfortable with the steps the salon has taken to guarantee their
safety. When walking into a salon and before even asking salon owners or nail technicians about
their safety and cleanliness, Nelson gives the advice of checking their surroundings quickly to see if
it appears clean. By checking their surroundings, individuals will be able to see if floors, ceilings,
and walls are clean and if by chance they aren't, the rest of the salon most likely won't be much
cleaner, giving a warning sign to that customer. When getting a pedicure, there are multiple actions
customers can do to make certain they'll be well cared for and safe. Having a liner in the foot basin

Classification Essay-Bangs With Curly Hair
Bangs With Curly Hair
There is a widely–held view that curly hair and bangs are much like water and oil. They don't mix.
However, no matter how confidently one proclaims this, it is simply not true. Still, the belief came
from somewhere, and that place was probably at the hands of an unqualified stylist, be it a mom, an
actual hairstylist or an eager do–it–yourself–er. The truth of the matter is that not all professional
stylists are trained to handle curly textures in their natural state. Too often, they interact with curly
hair only to straighten it and so do not develop the skills necessary to handle the curls themselves.
There's also the fact that even with straight hair, cutting and shaping bangs in a manner that flatters

As much as possible your curls and shape face should closely approximate that of your muse, in
order to ensure that you'll end up with a finished look you love. Remember that the shape of your
face, how your curls hang when you style them, or naturally, if you do very little styling and or
apply little to no product to your hair, is going to be super important in determining the length and
the shape of your bangs. You should also give your stylist a clear image of what you want so that
they know exactly what they should be working towards. Unless you and your stylist have been in
sync for awhile, there's also the risk that things get lost in translation when you try to explain, and
since a picture is worth a thousand words, using one will get your message across quickly and
effectively.

  • 1. Nail Salon Procedure 3 Things to Consider when Buying a Pedicure Chair for a Nail Salon Manicures and pedicures used to be services offered by all beauty salons. However, as this industry evolved, it is now very common to find salons that are dedicated solely to nail care. The main reasons why these salons are preferred by customers is due to the fact that they keep up with the latest nail design trends, and they use the most modern nail care equipment. The pedicure chair is perhaps the most important piece of equipment for such a salon, as its quality can make the pedicure experience more enjoyable for the customer. So, if you own a nail salon, you need to be very careful when buying this chair. Here are the main factors that you need to consider! 1. The manufacturer As a rule of thumb, it is always advised to buy from a local manufacturer. This way, if the product breaks, you can easily find replacement parts. Moreover, the products produced in the USA tend to be of higher quality than the ones produced overseas. If you are looking for a recommendation, consider J&A USA. They have been on the market for over 10 years, and they are among the best pedicure chair manufacturers in the world. • 3. Benefits Of Attracting A Diverse Pool Of Potential Candidates Recruitment Elibah Bey Kaplan University In this paper, I will identify the challenges and benefits of attracting a diverse pool of potential candidates; and explain the hiring process of a diverse workforce, the reason, and importance of the process for my beauty salon business. Eli's Beauty Services is an imaginary business that I plan to have someday in the future. I will also discuss three job positions, titles, specifications, pay, and job descriptions for each one; in order to operate my business. Furthermore, I will explain how and where I plan to advertise for these three positions to collect an application pool to interview and the reasons associated with my decision. Benefits and challenges of diversity According to Longenecker, Petty, Palich, & Hoy (2013), workforce diversity is the "differences among employees in the dimensions of gender, age, race, and ethnicity". Differences among employees can be challenging and beneficial in a business. The benefits of attracting a diverse pool of candidates are; "improved effective recruitment methods, good relations maintenance with increasing heterogeneous customer base, varying perspectives to bear on business challenges, workplace innovation, and positive problem solving" capabilities (Longenecker & Petty, et al., 2013, p. 538). These benefits all contribute to the overall success of an organization. On the other hand, the challenges associated with attracting a diverse pool of applicants are; "human ... • 4. Interview Analysis : Dehra Battle The entrepreneur that I choose to interview was, Dehra Battle. She is the owner and stylist at her own salon called, Hair Savvy Hair and Nail Salon. The salon opened up on the Spring of 2010. I have known Dehra for the past 10 years. She has been my personal hair stylist for the last 10 years. Being a close family friend, I have seen her trials and tribulations with opening her own salon. I choose Dehra, because she is a wonderful and hard working woman, who put her passion for helping others with self esteem by creating signature styles that will give any woman the confidence to feel like she owns the room. Dehra was not satisfied with working under a salon owner who was not concerned about the workers safety and customer satisfaction. She wanted to be in control and create an environment that customers would love to attend regularly. Her personal background played a tremendous part of her in her desires of becoming an entrepreneur. Dehra's mother was a nail tech part time for a majority of her childhood. Being in this environment for a strong portion of her life, she developed a passion for the art of beauty. Seeing first hand of how the beauty world can make a woman feel and how much she would spend to obtain that feeling was gravitating. Getting older she began her start at learning how to do hair. In high school, her high school had a vocational program for people interested in earning their cosmetology licensed, STNA certificate, and etc. Dehra received her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Quote For Salon Anthem SALON ETIQUETTE ~ A few years ago, a good friend from Los Angeles came to Anthem for a haircut. She was traveling to another country and needed something edgy but easy to care for. "Something new!" she told me during our consultation and together we found a perfect cut for her. When it came time to pay, I ran her credit card and handed her the machine to enter the tip amount. She handed it back to me. "I want you to decide how much you deserve." I stood there, shocked. "No,no," I said. "It's up to you how much you want to tip." "But I want you to decide what you think you're worth." By now, my blood pressure was soaring and I felt the onset of a stress induced migraine. "Then I'm putting down one thousand dollars." "If you feel you deserve that much. I'm happy to pay whatever you enter." I was confused by my friend's behavior and odd request. "Here," I said handing her the machine. "YOU decide how much you want to give," and I walked away. • 7. Personal Narrative-Dumping When you look at the brick that is The Mime Order, you're bound to be intimidated. Intimidation festers into stress which then turns into my favourite pastime–feigning ignorance. AKA pretending that it doesn't exists until the very last second, further perpetuating stress levels and ensuring bounteous hair loss (how I still have hair is beyond me. My babies fall out like I'm a shitzu and it's shedding season come early.) Against all odds (or perhaps not, I've been known to look past info dumping), I adored The Bone Season to bits. The world was delectable, albeit fed in plentiful doses. The characters delightful tragic, dark and mysterious. The circumstances dismal and layered in political lies. But a girl doesn't forget info dump, not such ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I know y'all. Let me ease that curiosity. While some were repelled by the romance in The Bone Season, I rather enjoyed it. Because it employed the whole antagonism to lust and lastly, to care (that's right kiddos, I won't say love. I didn't think it was love by any means. Not the whole crazy let me throw myself in front of a train even though, hey ho, I lived millenniums without knowing you.) Warden is a mysterious figure. With semi questionable intentions, which were, I suppose, good at heart (hey now, I'm not justifying anything that he's done). He's not a good man. Far from it. He watched as his race kidnapped and enslaved humans. He was passive throughout, bidding his time. He didn't agree with the methods, with the radicalism, but he wasn't an active saviour. Warden sees the bigger picture. He wants liberation for all. He wants that unattainable greater good, the idealistic vision. And he's not afraid to sacrifice a few lambs here and there on his way there. They're a means to an end. But Paige kind of completes him. I won't say change because she doesn't, not really. But having Paige there has meant that Warden's widened his horizons, learnt to see the glass both ways– half empty and full. And that's all you can ask for, really. So the romance in The Mime Order? It had me oozing all over the place because it was vague, slow burning, an exploration of feelings that were so pumped with lust but also inclusive of care. There's an ... The motivations were various and complex, from trying to advance from social dissipation to trying to supplement the education that was denied to them as children. However, as illustrated by eighteenth century–French theologian and moralist, Jacques–Joseph Duget, there was a perception of frivolous and licentious salon women in the seventeenth–century corrupting society, particularly by feminizing men. Salons in the eighteenth–century had evolved from this, now trying to revive society through the philosophes' Republic of Letters. The salons were reclaimed from aristocracy and utilized by the philosophes as a space of collaboration and intellectual exchange, fostering Enlightenment ideas, particularly egalitarianism. Salons were characterized by the acknowledged equality among the participants as well as the birth of intellectual practice as a valuable interest. The serious tone of the salon as a workspace provided philosophes with the environment necessary to spread the ideals of the Enlightenment, including the involvement of women in the enlightened community. My first impression of that salon was captured as a discomforting social setting, although I share almost the same culture as Indians, seeing how closed off it was solely to the Indian community made me wonder their acceptance towards other cultures. It was not just the decorations that led up to my negative behavior towards the salon, but it was also the lack of diversity among workers. As you walk in to the salon, you'll hear all these workers talking to each other in Hindi, or similar language, making the customer feel awkward and unwelcomed. • 14. Professional Use And Consumer Use Products Within both professional–use and consumer–use products, there are some differences, but nothing that will give a distinct comparison. Professional–use products are only sometimes directed to be used by salon professionals, not by the average user. Consumer–use products are distributed more to the drugstores, and retailers that then disperse them to the public. In fact any product in retailers would be considered a consumer–use product. Why are there differences? There are differences between these two sub–categories of products because some can be stronger and more effective than the others. If a woman walks into her local drugstore claiming to have a certain skin condition, she most likely uses her own knowledge and what is labeled on the package of the products she is intrigued by. These products are made with less active ingredients, so if the women chooses the wrong product for her skin type, there won 't be as much irritation. In fact, most consumer–use products are mostly composed of "fillers" and a small amount of the active ingredient. Even though it may mention this ingredient, having trace amounts of it will lead to minimal results. Some of these items are not even made to go below the skin's surface which allows for little to no effects on the skin. A good amount of these consumer–use products include eye–catching labels with expressions showing how well they work they are because of their components, but most of these claims are false because the small doses of ... • 15. Diderot 's Critique On Art And Public Of The Eighteenth... Diderot's critique stands out among other artistic critiques of the eighteenth century in the way he manages to engage not only what is on the canvas, but also in the way he is able to instill each composition's elements with significance in a greater context. Diderot's critic of Hubert Robert's work, among others, in The Salon of 1767 serves as a lesson for both artists and observers. His writing engages both groups through exploration of the role antiquity, imagination, and temporality play in the creation and viewership of art. In doing so, Diderot defines what made the art and public of the eighteenth century unique. The new archaeological discoveries of the eighteenth century reinvigorated public interest in antiquity, and Diderot was no exception to this trend. Diderot observes, "One rarely becomes a great writer, a great man of letters, or a man of remarkable taste without having made a close study of the ancients." Both the observer and artist must pay close attention to lessons from antiquity to properly understand concepts of beauty and the ideal. However, this is does not mean Diderot condones artists' imitation of ancient art. To Diderot, copying the ancients will never bring contemporary artists to the level of beauty of antiquity . Instead, artists and viewers should use the ancient mode to engage the contemporary . Painters of ruins should be sure to paint ruins with accuracy, so that the viewer cannot mistake the period and civilization of the ruin's ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 16. The Concept Of Discourse Community Life is like a massive highway that have infinite routes anyone can choose take to reach some type of designated goal. Those various routes lead to distinct exits, where one can discover a group or groups that share similarities dealing with viewpoints, beliefs, or understanding towards a particular goal. These groups can be identified as discourse communities. According to, "The Concept of Discourse Community," in the textbook, Writing About Writing, John Swales stressed that in order to be classified as a discourse community the group has to have all six defining characteristics. Swales emphasized, "A discourse community has a broadly agreed set of common public goals, mechanisms of intercommunication among its members, uses its participatory mechanisms primarily to provide information and feedback, utilities and hence processes one or more genres in the communicative furtherance of its aims, acquires specific lexis, and has a threshold level of members with a suitable degree of relevant content and discourse expertise" (Swales, 221–222). Keeping this key detail in mind, there is numerous type of discourse out there. An example of a discourse community I choose to talk about in this paper is the JPS Nail Salon located near Elvis Presley Boulevard. I recently became a part of this particular discourse community group by volunteering to help out on the weekends. I thought it would be interesting to dig a little deeper as to how discourse community works out as a whole. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When you relax curled hair you have to use a type of lotion or cream with a chemical ammonium thioglycolate that you put all over the hair which is in most relaxing products and it help relax the curls and straightens the natural curls. However, relaxing can potentially damage your hair. There are ways to minimize these damaging effects. Chemical straightening or relaxing treatments work in the same way as a reverse perm. Hair relaxers are available in two types: lye and no–lye. The solution is put on at the scalp, the hair is pulled straight with a special comb. Maintaining and repairing your hair starts from your daily routine. Formulating treatments in the comfort of your own home without making a dent in your wallet is the next step. Harsh chemicals, perms, color treatments, and bleach are big contributors to your damaged hair. These chemicals strip your hair of their natural moisture and protein, leaving your hair weak and brittle. With excessive usage of these harsh chemicals, your hair may chip or even shed more rapidly that you would like. While combing your hair is a true importance, there is such thing as over combing. Excessively combing your hair can put a strain on your hair, leaving it damaged. Direct heat on your hair definitely causes split ends and damaged hair. It is recommended that The Salon creates new services that differentiate from the competitors. If The Salon has better services that customers perceive more valuable and creates more satisfaction than competitors, The Salon may be able to set higher prices without fearing losing customers. Specifically, The Salon should create different levels for any service if possible. For example, for pedicure, it should create three or four levels such as basic, deluxe, elite with the price and margin increases as the level increases. The increase can be justified because the high level of service offers more,e.g. the elite pedicure has hot rock massage on feets while the others do not. In another way to differentiate is to increase the value offered in the service, for example, offering free toe nail art/design when customers have both manicure and pedicure services. By the same token. it is recommended that The Salon creates service bundles that are compelling to customers and perceived as good value. The bundles would create differentiation that helps The Salon stand above the competitors. Better differentiation would allow attract more customers and The Salon can set a higher profit margin without fear of competition of the identical service. One example of bundling services is the top–to–bottom bundle that includes eyebrow lip waxing, manicure, and pedicure with a price that less than if individual service is performed separately. This book was a pretty fun read and taught me quite a few things I didn't already know like what the 80/20 Rule is or how to get clients in the door and keep them coming in. It also refreshed my memory on things I already knew, like body language, listening, and time saving strategies. This book covers different topics in each chapter and explains each topic thoroughly. Chapter one is titled Respect. In this chapter, it explains the three different kinds of respect. Self– respect "I Like myself." pg 5, self–esteem "I believe in myself and in my ability to make my way in this world." pg 5, and mutual respect "I have the confidence to live authentically and to recognize and appreciate the positive qualities of others." pg 5. This was a useful chapter in the way of breaking things down into smaller pieces and having charts to refer back to and explain each kind of respect, as well as give examples. The chart on pg 8 was extremely helpful because it spelled out the word Respect and told us what each letter in the word stands for. "R–relitibility, E–enthusiasm, S– sincerity, P–persistence, E–emotional balance, C–consideration, T–trustworthiness." pg 8. Unfortunately the cutter was 20 minutes, which she used to review a chapter for tomorrow's human resources course. Some of the other waiting customers were reading magazines provided by the store. Eventually it was time for a shampoo, after which the stylist proposed a slightly different cut. Susan agreed, although she drew the line at the suggestion to lighten her hair color. She sat very still. Watching the process in the mirror and turning her head when requested. She was pleased with the result and complimented the cutter on her work. Including the shampoo, the process lasted about 40 minutes. She tipped the cutter and paid at the reception desk. The rain had stopped and the sun was shining as Susan left the store, so she walked home, stopping to pick up clothes from the cleaners. This store was rather gloomy, smelled of cleaning solvents, and badly needed repainting. She was annoyed to find that although her silk blouse was ready as promised, the suit she would need for her interview was not. The assistant, who dirty fingernails, mumbled an apology in an insincere tone without making eye contact. Although the store was convenient and the quality of work quite good, Susan considered the employees unfriendly and not very helpful. • 37. Eth 316 Week 2 Case Study Supervisors When I was reading the Case Study 35, I figured that Mary would know that others would probably have tried for her position, just as she had done. I supposed it would have been nice to inform her about Juanita and Sue while offering her the position. I do not think she would have let that make her turn it down. Chris did inform Mary about the internal candidates and the issues she may have with Juanita while walking her through (Clardy, 2012). According to Clardy (2012) according to realistic job previews, Mary should have been told about any relevant information regarding the job that she is being offered. I am sure in Mary's mind, meeting with each employee individually was a good start. I have had supervisors meet one on one with me ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is not a good feeling to have someone come in that you have never met, and they have no idea who you are and what you have put into the company. It feels like you are a new employee and nothing you have done in the past will show how much dedication or vision you have that helped the company with where they are. Then pretty soon, one director is gone and everyone you see is new. The last 5 years mean nothing and you are just another employee. As Clardy (2012) states, there are numerous issues that new managers or supervisors can have when starting a new job. First thing, is that the new manager or supervisor has to learn how the company or division works and operates. Second, is learning about the employees and what they do in their positions. Third, the manager or supervisor has to learn about any issues or problems that are affecting the operations. I believe there should be a fourth. And that is getting to know the employees. I hate the idea of new supervisors or managers just going about their business and not even acknowledging the employees. I got a new supervisor and being that I work from home, I met her about three months after she became my supervisor. It was over a month before we actually ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Nail Police Procedures Your heart is light and your stresses are gone sitting in a comfortable pedicure chair, where you get your toe–nails painted, until your feet get rubbed with a cuticle softener; the strong scent of the softener stinging your nose and you sense something's not quite right. The nail technician's hands touch your feet and as you look around you see unmarked bottles of beauty products; not thinking much of any of it. After about 20 minutes while you have your nice manicure done, your feet start to feel tingly and as if they're burning. You don't bother to ask your nail technician about the burning sensation and only think to yourself, "it is all part of the pedicure" while they paint your fingernails in the pedicure chair. There are actions customers can take to make sure the salon they will be getting their nails done at will be a clean and safe place for them. Dr. David A. Johnson talked with Daryl Nelson and made the statement that "no one should accept on blind trust that a business is taking the necessary steps to prevent transmission of blood–borne infections such as hepatitis." Clients can ask for SDS's, cleaning logs, and see licenses of nail technicians to check by themselves to see if the surrounding areas look right and if they feel comfortable with the steps the salon has taken to guarantee their safety. When walking into a salon and before even asking salon owners or nail technicians about their safety and cleanliness, Nelson gives the advice of checking their surroundings quickly to see if it appears clean. By checking their surroundings, individuals will be able to see if floors, ceilings, and walls are clean and if by chance they aren't, the rest of the salon most likely won't be much cleaner, giving a warning sign to that customer. When getting a pedicure, there are multiple actions customers can do to make certain they'll be well cared for and safe. Having a liner in the foot basin can really safeguard from bacteria from prior uses, but if the salon doesn't use tub–liners, then you can opt out of the water and have a dry pedicure instead (Elliot). • 40. Classification Essay-Bangs With Curly Hair Bangs With Curly Hair There is a widely–held view that curly hair and bangs are much like water and oil. They don't mix. However, no matter how confidently one proclaims this, it is simply not true. Still, the belief came from somewhere, and that place was probably at the hands of an unqualified stylist, be it a mom, an actual hairstylist or an eager do–it–yourself–er. The truth of the matter is that not all professional stylists are trained to handle curly textures in their natural state. Too often, they interact with curly hair only to straighten it and so do not develop the skills necessary to handle the curls themselves. There's also the fact that even with straight hair, cutting and shaping bangs in a manner that flatters the wearer ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As much as possible your curls and shape face should closely approximate that of your muse, in order to ensure that you'll end up with a finished look you love.
