  • Having a good location will set help you to expose your business to new customers. if you choose a place that has parking or is easy to walk to or easy access to public transportation makes it easier for more customers to come to you when ever they need you. You will also make it earlier for you to be known because your business want be hidden 2. Knowing that you might fail seems harsh but its reality. When you know this your more determined to be successful. Especially a business like a salon. There are salon everywhere trying to be the best is very hard because there is competition on every corner so you must and have to think a step a head of the competition3. When you keep one customer happy they will start talking to other people about you and your salon business.4. When people go out and tell other people this is called word of mouth. That is the best and easiest way to get yourself out there.
  • These are three types of businesses that you will need to ask your self witch one best suites you.Picking the wrong type type of business could mess you up financially
  • Witch is very hard because it will talk up a lot of you time when you own your own business. When you own your own business you have to: Manage the business, Determine policies, and has the last say in decision making, Assuming expense, receives profits an bears all lossesPartnership lets you have more opportunity for increased investment and growth. A partnership can be two or more people3. Its shared ownership but not really equal, assumes the others unlimited liability for debts, makes it easier to share work responsibilities and decision making.Corporation is the best way that a business owner can protect his or her personal assets. When you start a business by corporation you will save a lot of money in taxes, provide greater business flexibility and make raising capital easierCorporations raise capital by using shares or stock certificatesStockholders have an ownership in the interest in thee companyYou can be a sole stockholder a stockholder is required to pay unemployment unlike partnership and individualIncome tax is limited to the salary that you draw and not the total profits of the businessInclude that you can own your own businesses in your house but you must meet the requirements
  • A partnership can be two or more people. Its shared ownership but not really equal, assumes the others unlimited liability for debts, makes it easier to share work responsibilities and decision making
  • Corporations raise capital by using shares or stock certificatesStockholders have an ownership in the interest in thee companyYou can be a sole stockholder a stockholder is required to pay unemployment unlike partnership and individualIncome tax is limited to the salary that you draw and not the total profits of the business
  • What this means is if I have one stylist working in my salon …..then I have to have a minimum of 180 square feet. So that means this work area has the dimensions of 10ft X 18ft. That what makes it a hundred180sqaure feet. If I hire 3 more stylist then I need at least 540 hundred square feet plus 180 square feet I had to start with so I will end up wit 720 square feet for my salon. So that’s about 2 and a half to about three classroomsI have a drawling for this slide to
  • The amount that you choose will obviously depend on how much space your business will have or need Its very hard to get a business loan from a bank you must have extremely good credit Assets meaning you things that you own you can prove that your are responsible for paying things or if you cant pay for your loan they can take your car or house to cover
  • The lease should specify clearly who owns what, and who is responsible for which repairs and expensesExemptions of fixtures or appliances that be attached to the salon so that they can be removed without violating the leaseAgreement about necessary renovations and repairs, such as painting plumbing, fixtures and electrical installationOptions so that the landlord that allows to assign the lease to another person
  • Do to the different types of tax liability and taxable incomes and tax breaks payroll deductions it would be easier to have and accounted that knows how to deal with all the different types of taxes that occurs in the salonIts for your accountant to balance your books at the end of ever business years for taxes purposes this is now you see if you had any profits or loses for the year
  • With doing this you will have saved yourself lots of money because you will have insurance and want have to come out of pocket if anything like the ones listed were to unfortunately happen
  • Most salons need a space of about 500 to 2000, square feet, the amount of space depends on the types of services that will be providedIf you don’t have the right equipment then you can have a lawsuit on your hands because something could go wrong but use the wrong equipmentCapita- meaning moneyZoning restrictions- controls the use of the land and what you do with itThe equipment that you will buy depends on the services that you offer
  • When the owner is not person the other person in charge name must be posted some where in the salon.A stylist must be at least sixteen years of age and have a tenth grade education When its means near the premises this means within the square footage of the salonThe only equipment that can be sanitized is metal or plastic this that are wood or thing like nails files or anything of that nature must be thrown away right after use, things like nail clippers combs razors etc must be cleansed asapYou must call state board in order to have your name approved some people stay on the phone up to six hours just to see if the names they chose are able to be used
  • These are the very few things that the state requires
  • Cosmetologist may be salaried or work for commission and tips , salon owners pat commission of around 50 percentBarbers salaries range from 15,080 to 75,000Image consultants and color analysts make around 15,00 to 75,000 Cosmetic surgeons make around 164,800 to 266,000Cosmetologist/ hair stylist make around 18,000 to 45,00 and moreDermatologist make around 80,000 to 238,000Makeup artists make around 13,00 to 260,000Massage therapist makes around 10,712 to 72,800Mortuary cosmetologist make 13,280 to 32,000Nail technicians 15,236 to 24,000Salon managers 23,000 to 37,00Skin care specialists make 10,700 to 28,600
  • I have a drawling that will explain this…
  • Most nail salons provided waxing, eyebrows, pedicures, manicures, and eyelashesBarbershops provide clipper cutting, shaving, and braidingMost spas provide skin care, all types of massagesAny hair service ( color, cutting, perms etc)Any type of braiding service ( cornrows individuals and sometimes sewing weaves)Full service salon have any service that you can think of that has to do with cosmetology including makeup
  • When you open a salon like this you must make sure that everyone is specifically certified for the position that they positioned in the salon. One person may have their license for more then one service in the salon.Administration Equipment- includes one cash register and computer, phones, basic office supplies, desks, and furniture
  • If a clients likes to get their hair, nails, makeup and a spa all at one time and know that will be able to do this all in one place you will have this client longer what I mean by this is on average someone that just get their hair cut or colored on average will leave their stylist between 5 to 7 years. By having a salon that offers every thing all in one will help a stylist to keep their client as well as bring in money other places in you business such as nails, spa, etc
  • If you happen to not properly sanitation a person hands, hair, nails, skin, work stations, and implements you will have a lawsuit on your handsTalk about how hepatitis and how it can live for up to two mouth and talk about barbacide
  • Its important to keep a medical record of your clientsHave your clients fill out a sheet the tells you what types of conditions they might haveIf you don’t know the medical history you might make a mistake that can cause you your salon just by you simply not knowing but it is stylist job to know important information like this
  • Client consultation is probably one of the most important things you must do in this businesses talk about why client consultation is soooo important and also talk about release form so when costumers come in how they need to sign this for before they get a service performed on them
  • When selling in the salon make sure you don’t seem aggressive or pushy you do not want to seem like that person or you will not sell any products and you can as while loose customers.
  • Even thought you want to keep your customers happy you must market you salon with new customersOne of the best ways is by radioPop ups on the internetDirect mailTV commercialsWord of mouth is the best method of advertising that’s why making your customers satisfied will help you to build a great salondi
  • If you have problems like these your business will look completely unprofessional and will cause you to loose a lot of clients but by having people in your salon that can not work with one another if you fire them you can loose clients because of the stylist.
  • In the cosmetology field there is a lot of interaction with the customers. Most of that interactions has to do with being in the customers personal space.
  • Talk about the from what not to wear an her attitude from everyone and how she felt about itTalk about how many people in this business where at lot of what they want to but its important to know when to drawn the lineTalk about girl from what to wear and what not to wearAlso throw in there the proper shoes that are good for you feet
  • Things that are not supposed to be said don’t talk aboutPersonal lifePoliticsReligion/raceSexGossip never know who knows that person
  • Not knowing what is in and what is not will really but I dent in the money that you bring in. If you are familiar with what trends are and can do those trends or understand what a client is trying to explain what type of hair styles they want will really help you. Now knowing what they are talking about because your are no up to date with the different trends will make you loose clients and money by either not knowing how to do different stuff or trying to do things that are not fimilar to you and messing up someones hair
  • The beauty industry is a multibillion industry Even though it’s a multibillion industry there is a lot of competition ever where You must make sure your salon stands out some ways to stand out is cleansingness the attitude of your works the way your salon looks they war you workers are dress sometime a catchy logo will also help you out as well
