2. Written Language Dear Editor I do not agree that it should be illegal for people in our town to own dogs, in fact I think it is ridiculous. People should be able to exercise free choice concerning whether or not they have pets! Dogs are great companions loved by all and are totally loyal. What's going to happen to the people who are blind? They all need guide dogs! Are they just going to stumble around trying to find their way about? What about the police? How are they going to find the thieves and other criminals without the police dogs? How will they bring down the criminals? And in the airports, Are the smugglers going to get away with smuggling things into our country? Who’s going to stop the fruits and foods that are bad, or poisonous coming into the country? Who’s going to herd the sheep in farms? Who’s going to help the horses while hunting? Who’s going to pull the sleds in sled races? Who’s going to care for us when we’re down...? Who? Who? Who? Did you think about ANY of these things . Consider it. We really DO need dogs in this town. Last of all, Dogs save us. They pull us out of avalanches. They find us among the rubble of disasters. They save us when we are drowning. They will take a snakebite for a toddler. They pull our loads. They put food on our tables. Dogs protect our homes. They put a smile on your face when we are in the hospital or nursing home. They are our arms and legs when we are paralysed. Do you really think now that we shouldn’t have dogs? Do you only think of them as stinky animals that eat your food, sleep in your house, and shed their fur so you have to pick it up and yet don’t do anything to help you? Dogs aren’t like that. From an unhappy citizen of the town 10/08/2009
