10. Some key points
1. Make sure you know where all your work is,
particularly if in an examination class.
2. The network is switched off Friday 12th 6pm.
3. No entry to the building for students after Friday
12th (except for some sixth form interviews and
some exams)
4. You have two weeks out of school but there will
still be work to do. Levels and grades do not go
up on their own.
5. All passwords will be reset over the break.
6. Some exams are taking place w/b 5th January in
the new building.
11. Work over the two weeks
Your teachers will let you know what you must do,
there’s plenty of other things you could do – fill your
homework diary. Sources will include
• The school VLE (year group folders have been set
up)
• Show my Homework
• Past Exam Papers
• Educational Websites such as
– BBC Bitesize, SAM Learning, GCSE Pod, My Maths
• (But not anything from the school network, if you
need to access it save it on the VLE)
• And, take every opportunity to improve your
reading age.
12. Teachers will next submit levels and
grades on

21. The new building is fantastic
but in case you were expecting………
Lockers (there aren’t any, same arrangement as now)
Lift access (there are lifts but they’re for disabled access
only)
Swimming pool (it was never planned)
There is also no separate sixth form learning centre, a
proposal is about to go through planning permission.
The plan is another block ready for September 2015. The
library is the study base for sixth formers.
22. There are more……
• Toilets (but their opening times will be
restricted)
• Spaces to lock up bikes (but will be
uncovered)
and you should see a difference with the
food in the first week (but allow some time
for us to work out the best queuing system)
25. Ready
• Attend on time, with all equipment
including school planner.
• Full school uniform, worn properly.
• All headphones, phones and other
electronic equipment out of sight and off.
• No gum or food, or fluid other than water.
26. Respectful
• Do as you are asked by all members of
staff.
• Listen to others, use appropriate language
and a polite tone.
• Look after each other, the building,
displays and equipment.
27. Safe
• Follow rules for health and safety.
• Keep hands, feet, objects and personal
comments to yourself.
• Be in the right place at the right time, and
not in unsupervised areas.
• Leave valuables at home, the school is not
responsible for them.
28. And remember…….
The standard of your uniform and behaviour
in and around the school, and the journey to
and from school really matters.
You represent !
30. 5 minutes maximum movement
time by a safe route
(which is not always the shortest
in the new building)
31. This is the second floor – maths on the left and English on the right
There are four staircases
If your classrooms are near the end of the corridor and your next lesson is
on another floor, use the staircases at the end of the floor even if it means
going a longer way round.
32. For example if your period 1 is in one of the classrooms in the box and your
period 2 is on another floor, follow the arrow.
33. On the stairs
• One of the Finchley staircases is up only.
• On the other three there will be a line down
the middle, do not cross it and stay left.
• No overtaking.
• In five minutes you can get from anywhere
to anywhere – look after the safety of
others.
34. On the corridors
• Stay left
• Be responsible for your safety and that of
others
35. If there is a fire or a fire drill
• The playground is still the place to go.
• Except in January the sixth form will line up
outside. Some of the playground will be a
car park until the current science block
comes down.
36. In assembly
The new hall has tiered seating.
Q K
U Y
T S
N A
Speaker
Q and K at the back, N and A at the front.
Tutors sit with tutor groups, by the central gangway.
Use both doors for entry and exit.
38. Are you still…….
• Calling out in class ?
• Leaving your tray in the canteen for someone
else to clear ?
• Dropping litter ?
• Chasing each other around the playground ?
• Asking someone else what your next lesson is
?
• Waiting for someone else to be responsible
for your education ? That person is you !
39. The new building has cost
around £20,000 per student
How will you show you have been
worth that investment ?
40. Day 1
12.1.15
Will you be ready for
the new QK ?

Editor's Notes
6th form tutor groups to be added, but split between UG and 3rd floor
Ground floor – just so you can see the shape from a birds eye view
Transparency to the outside world
Assembly going on next to the lunch queue
A narrow set of stairs and narrow entrance to the playground
Different view of the playground
Fire routes
Note ground and upper ground. Slope of Boundary Road running across the school
Adjacent quads but no sense of loop all around
Point out the entrances
Go through each one. Are you ready to learn
Done some work on punctuality. It is far better but not there yet. I do take this, particularly to lessons, as a barometer about whether students are going to do as they are told.
The quality of uniform is not good enough. Shirts out, ties down etc. Not in uniform unless wearing it properly. Operation Smart is coming, why not get used to it early
Headphones, phones – from the gate at the start to the gate at the end. That means gate not form room. No phone handing in. Don’t bring them. No phones on corridors, no phones at lunchtime, no phones out before school starts, no phones at the end of the day.
Water at teacher discretion.
Respectful – in my four months here I’ve seen students blank members of staff, persistently and aggressively answer back, walk away, put their head on a desk and refuse to sit up, expect to sit where they like and carry on a conversation throughout a lesson. There is a serious problem, and for some students it appears ingrained.
‘Do as you are asked’ covers many things – means first time, doesn’t mean eventually.
Valuables – don’t bring them to school.
High balls @ lunch time
Confiscation – end of term for you, parent/carer can come to collect
At end of day don’t hang around outside the gate or in the car park. Stay and chat but inside.
