On October 7, 2022, the IRCC announced that students would be allowed to work more than 20
hours a week between November 15, 2022, and December 31, 2023. This is a one-time measure

held by students such as food services, retail, and hospitality. However, there are no restrictions
on the type of employment.

increase immigration levels, including the number of annual student study permits, there are
suggestions that not enough support is being provided to students to develop the knowledge,
skills and abilities (KSAs) necessary to sustain:
their emotional and mental health
their desired academic aspirations; or
the appropriate industry work experience required by the Post-Graduation Work Permit Program
(PGWPP)
