My Visit to Jhargram and Purulia in West Bengal, India

2. I went to Jhargram which is municipality and
city in West Bengal. This is a great tourist
destination and popular among the forests,
royal palaces and ancient temples.
The guide informed me that Jhargram has
been situated at 22.45°N 86.98°E.. There is a
height of 81 metres or 265 feet. The weather
has been quite tropical and humid. The
temperature is 46 °C maximum in hot as well
as dry months of June and May. This might
rise to 4 °C in chilly nights of January and
December.
3. According to legend approximately 1592
CE, Raja Man Singh from Amber have
entered to conquer Bengal for the Mughal
Emperor named Akbar from Rajasthan’s
Rajputana for expansion of empire of
Mughal period around Eastern India. He
had appointed the loyal officers in army.
Sarveshwar Singh has been defeated by
local rulers as Junglekhand. The area has
been mentioned in Ain –i-Akbari in the
form of Jharikhanda. There are tribals as

4. Mal Raja controlled the area. The Mals have been
ancient warriors who have been strong people in
eastern area of India from Guptas and Mauryas.
Sarveshwar Singh have Rajput military force along
with cavalry. There is an intense forest and they
had destroyed the rulers of Mal. Malla Deb is the
new surname gained by them. For remembering
the victory, Mal Raja has been slain
on Vijayadashami day. For controlling Governor of
Bengal, Bihar, and Orissa, Raja Man Singh has
been appointed. The campaign have been
returning to Rajputana. Mansabdari have been
granted in 1200 km square.
5. The initial fortress has been supposed to be
present in Old Jhargram. The fortress has the ruins
which were underground because of unknown
reasons. The Jhargram kingdom has been founder
of Sarveshwar Singh. They are associated with
clan of Chauhan under the Rajputs from Rajputana
in Fatehpur Sikri. He assumed the Raja title and
coined the name as Jhargram. It signifies forest
village. There were canals and walls. In local term,
they are Ugal. After the Durga Astami, Ugals or
four corners have been prayed for saving their
kingdom. Ugal Sanda is the hero..
6. From 1741 to 1751, the Bengal invasion of
Maratha took place, Raja Man Govind Malla
Dev have participated in armed forces under
king of Bisnnupur along with Nawab of
Bengal. The war has been fought against
them. They have won the fight. Jhargram had
stayed independent until 1767. At the time
The East India Company have been
commanded by Robert Clive who had entered
Midnapore through Radhanagar for
controlling Jhargram fort.
7. The Jhargram rulers have been benevolent and
the behavior is progressive in nature. They
concentrated in the welfare of people. Raja
Raghunath Malla Deb have been qualified as FA
in the Scottish Church College. He is the holder of
first-degree in that district. The wrestling
instruments have been restored in Palace along
with Calcutta Museum. Raja Sir Narasingha Malla
Deb has been father of modern Jhargram.
Educated under Midnapore Collegiate School
along with Presidency College in the Calcutta area.
8. I visited Jhargram Agricultural College, and it was
renamed Jhargram Raj College. Raja Sir Narasingha
Malla Deb had also started Vidyasagar Polytechnic,
which is meant for industrial training and they offered
financial assistance for establishing Sri Ramkrishna
Saradapeeth Girls High School along with Bharat
Sevashram Sangha. The royal family had set up and
helped the primary institutions for people at risk in the
estate of Jhargram. The Bengal Governor set up the
hospital at and there is Chandi Charan Charitable
Hospital. There has been Muslim community for
creating Nurrani Jama Masjid in the Jhargram. In 1947,
the land has been acquired.
9. I found the Jhargram District Hospital
along with Jhargram Super Specialty
Hospital. They have been public sector
hospitals located at Jhargram. I also
observed the nursing homes and private
clinics.
10. Jhargram has been regarded as the center for
tribal dance. The tribal dances will become extinct.

13. I went to Purulia and it is a district of West Bengal.
There is a river near Purulia named Kangasabati River.
The Purulia district had formed lowest level of Chota
Nagpur Plateau. I observe the land is undulating along
with hills. It has been found that the rural population is
83.80%. I heard from the guide that urbanization is
Purulia is 18.58%. Kansai is the local name of
Kangsabati. There are old temples and some temples
date back to 11th century. The target is made over
education which includes sainik school, university,
Ramakrishna Mission Vidyapith which is located at
Bongabari.

15. There are dams of small size and they are

16. The goal is irrigating agriculture fields.
Saheb Bandh has been famous
waterbody in Purulia. This is found at the
center of Purulia town.
17. I came across a migratory bird shelter and
these birds come from the following areas:
Bangladesh
Burma
Sindh
Baluchistan at the time of December to
March.
18. The experts find a mixture of culture of the
following states:

Jharkhand
Orrisa
There is a tribal association in the
archaeological evidences. We also find
tribal local festivals.
19. The behavior of local people of Purulia
