3. Basic
principle
It is to melt the plastic materials and
force it through the forming die to get
desired shape or profile.
4. Mechanism
The plastic material is melted by means of
shearing in between screw & barrel & forced it
into forming die which is having shape of profile
like pipe of film & cool it into water tank & sizing
equipment.
5. Construction of Extruder
Screw drive motor
Hopper
Feed Throat
Barrel
Breaker plate
Feed pipe
Die
Cooling Tank
Air knife
Pelletizer
Packing stations
6. Types of Extruder
Their are basically two types of extruder
1. Single Screw Extruder
2.Twin Screw Extruder
8. The feed section picks up finitely divided
polymer from a hopper and propels it into the
main part of the extruder.
In the compression section , the loosely packed
feed is compacted ,melted, and formed into a
continuous stream of the molten plastic. Some
external heat must be applied, but much is
generated by friction.
The metering section contributes to uniform flow
rate, required to produce uniform dimensions in
finish products, and build up sufficient pressure in
polymer melt to force the plastic through the rest
of the extruder and out of the die.
