2. • During my whole project I gathered audience research at 3 different
intervals. Firstly when gathering information on my music video draft,
then my digipak and magazine advert draft, then finally after I made
my 3 pieces of work. By doing this I could find out more about my
target audience (Male teenagers) by seeing what they like about my
work and what I need to improve on. To conduct the audience
research I used a site called surveymonkey which is a free online
survey maker. This means that I can send a link to people in my target
audience after they have seen my work to see what there opinion is.
3. • To enable me to see what kind of music video my target audience
likes I asked the question. My results showed that they would rather
see a mixture of performance and narrative, this goes with
convention of the electronic genre. With this information I then
decided to make this kind of video.
4. • After I made my video I asked the same 11 people there opinion on it.
For example one of the questions was if they preferred the
performance based shots in black and white or colour. 100% said that
they preferred it in black and white so I used that in my final edit.
Another example was with the amount of close up shots in the edit.
The majority of audience said there wasn’t enough and too many mid
shots, so again I changed this.
5. • Similarly to my music video, I also constructed a couple drafts for my
digipak and magazine. I asked the same 11 people some questions so
I could gain some knowledge on what works best. For example I asked
what text colour works best, the majority of people answered white
while a small minority answered red. Nobody answered black, this
meant that when constructing my final edition I only used white and
red as the text colours.
6. • Finally after I have finished my final edit and ancillary texts I again
showed the same 11 people if they felt there was a combination
between them. All 11 of them felt there was, which meant that my
overall project was a success.
7. • In conclusion I felt that I have learnt a lot from my audience research,
by using questionnaires I was able to find out more about my target
audience and also construct my work around them. Also by doing
audience research I found it made the construction stage a lot easier,
I knew before I was going to do it what my target audience would like
so all I need to do is to put it together.
