Teacher Notes
Vocabulary to revise/teach
• General: numbers, colours
• Verbs: eat, run, swim
• Adjectives: big, dangerous, furry, long, small, spikey
• Nouns: antlers, beak, claws, flippers, grass, hump, legs, neck, tail, tusks
Suggested activities:
• Cut-up the animal names. See if students can match them to the correct animals on the map. Get them
researching on the internet or reading books to find out about animals they don’t know!
• Copy and cut up the descriptions. Read out the clues one by one. Students guess the animal. The student
with the correct answer can place the description next to the correct animal on the map.
• Ask students to place more animals on the map – they can draw them or use pictures.
• Follow-up: Model sentences like the above, e.g. It is ___________ . It has ___________ legs. Ask students to
write three sentences about an animal then describe to small groups who try to guess the animal.
