Human Factors of XR: Using Human Factors to Design XR Systems
Auto Cars and IOT
1.
2. ABSTACT
This presentation is intended about the cars which are to be
part of our future which are involved with “Autopilot” in
automotive assisted by “Internet of Things” which helps in road
safety and huge revolution in automobile industry. This
presentation is mainly based on the Tesla automobile models.
3. AUTOPILOT
• Autopilot is the assistive driving technology which enhances
the driving capabilities of the driver and improves safety.
• It will match speed to traffic conditions, keep within a lane,
automatically change lanes without requiring driver input,
transition from one freeway to another, exit the freeway when
your destination is near, self-park when near a parking spot and
be summoned to and from your garage.
4. Working of Autopilot
• Autopilot of this car works by using various types of sensors and
many cameras which are associated to a CPU which makes the car
run autonomously.
• The sensors and cameras used in Tesla Autopilot cars are 8
cameras, 12 ultrasonic cameras, 1 forward facing radar.

7. Engine & Fuel
• There is no engine for this cars it is provided with dual motors
on each axle.
• The fuel system of this cars are mostly lithium ion batteries
which ranges from 60, 70, 75, 85, 90 or 100 kWh.
• They helps in running the car upto 485km in a single charge.

9. ADVANTAGES
1) Increase in road safety due to lack of human error.
2) Accidents in critical conditions is decreased from 6 out of 10
to 1 out of 10.
3) A disabled individuals, who have to rely on public
transportation or assistance from others to get around.
4) Less parking structures and parking headaches would be
required, since your car could actually drop you off and locate
a parking space farther away.
5) As the center of gravity is low the risk of rollover of vehicle is
low.
10. DISADVANTAGES
1) The human alertness is still required.
2) It is vulnerable to hacking.
3) The cost is high.
4) Autopilot in cars cannot be used everywhere.
11. Introducing IOT in Autopilot system
• IOT means internet of things which means connecting devices
with internet and operating them remotely or automatically.
• In automotive we can arrange pressure sensors which
recognizes the accidents as the sensors are connected with CPU
it sends and alerts the GPS and range of accident to the nearest
ambulance available.
• We can further secure the person in the vehicle by placing
Heartbeat or digital pulse sensors in the seat belt which are
connected to the CPU, smart phone or even a smart watch.
12. • This may used in monitoring the victim and providing first aid
in the ambulance itself.
• We can also guide the ambulance to nearest hospital available
with the help of traffic updates.
• We can also alert the hospital by sending the victim health
condition to the hospital before the arrival of ambulance.
• The hospital can also be provided with victims previous
medical data if available.
• Thus, we can decrease the life expectancy of an accident
victim.
