2. 2 ORTEC Warehousing
ORTEC Warehousing Suite
Running a lean, agile warehouse and logistic operation requires
maximizing supply chain performance while reducing operational
costs. Dynamic markets constantly change and demand
innovative, cost efficient solutions.
Increasing complexity of DC operations, rising labor costs,
growing product ranges, decreasing order sizes and rising service
level demands, drive the transition of warehouses from storage
spaces to logistic factories.
ORTEC’s automated warehousing technology brings automation
to places previously considered non-viable, eliminating the need
for investments in new facilities.
ORTEC’s multi-disciplinary team of industry experts designs,
builds, delivers and maintains award winning, turn-key automated
storage and material handling systems.

ORTEC OptilogX Sequencing Buffer
Warehouse complexities are most apparent in the handovers
between various processes. The patented OptilogX
Sequencing Buffer orchestrates the complexity by taking away
interdependencies between retrieval, picking and loading. This
solution enables you to independently optimize the activities in
other areas of your warehouse - the right pallets and roll cages
are delivered on time and properly sequenced, resulting in
unprecedented throughput volumes and dynamics on a very limited
surface.
High throughput, maximum efficiency
ORTEC’s high-density, high throughput Sequencing Buffer is
especially designed for warehouses, production facilities and
distribution centers with the need for high throughput and maximum
efficiency. You can use it to:
n Sequence and buffer vehicle loads
n Sequence, feed and buffer in high volume order picking processes
n Buffer night or weekend production
n Consolidate flows from different areas
n Automate and optimize cross docking
Automate handling
of the complexities
n Sequencing random
inbound flows based on
order information
n Simultaneously handling
inbound, sorting & outbound
flows
n Buffering and peak shaving
Delivering at the right time,
in the right sequence to:
n Loading docks
n Order picking areas
n Order picking work stations
ORTEC OptilogX Sequencing Buffer…
Keeps your pallets moving
3. 3ORTECWarehousing
Moving pallets simultaneously
The Sequencing Buffer works like a rubiks cube and consists of
three main components. Elevators, transfer carts and chain-driven
buffer lanes deal with transport in the X, Y, or Z direction, allowing
many pallets to move simultaneously. This modular setup also
makes it flexible to physical constraints. Columns, irregular spaces
forklift driveways and cooling-fans: The Sequencing Buffer can
easily be built around it, taking away the need for investments in a
new facility or adjustments to an existing building.
Benefits
n Increased visibility and agility
n Fully automated sequencing of truckloads
n Increased throughput capacity of entire site
n Automated consolidation and sequencing of various flows
n Reduced truck turnaround times
n Logistics integration, e.g. with ORTEC Load Building
or ORTEC Routing & Dispatch
Savings
+ Dispatch area surface - over 80%
+ Labor costs - over 70%
+ Investments in a new facility
+ Reduction of damage, incidents and accidents
+ Energy savings in coldstores - over 75%
Optimized loading plans, sequenced automatically
and fault free loaded
4. 4 ORTEC Warehousing
ORTEC Automated Shuttle Warehouse
ultra high density automated storage
Moving pallets in 3 directions
n Elevators, transfer carts and shuttles
n Simple components, easy to maintain
Ultra high density storage
n Variable selectivity
n Compact and simple equipment
ORTEC Automated Shuttle Warehouse
Provides cost effective storage with flexibility to cope with
changes in orders, products and throughput. To optimize mass
storage consider the ORTEC Automated Shuttle Warehouse
which is characterized by ultra-high density, design flexibility,
redundancy and scalability.
Easy handling of fluctuating workloads
The Shuttle Warehouse makes use of the same components as
the Sequencing Buffer, but instead of driven chain conveyors in the
storage lanes the shuttle warehouse makes use of a pallet shuttle
for storage and retrieval of pallets. The shuttles - charged on the
transfer cart - move freely throughout the entire system, to any
level. Result: great redundancy and capabilities to handle high and
fluctuating workloads. As volumes increase, shuttles are easily
added thanks to plug and play technology.
Suitable for warehouses, production plants,
and distribution centers
n Cold stores and conditioned spaces
n Batch products
n Existing and low roofed buildings
n High throughput warehouses
n When scalability is key
Extreme flexibility
When compared to traditional AS/RS technologies, the extreme
adaptability of this shuttle based technology is unmatched. It
follows ceiling contours, selectivity differs per zone, floor loads are
low, and the ground level can be kept free for forklift corridors:
The ideal system for maximizing the capacities within existing
facilities.
5. 5ORTECWarehousing

6. 6 ORTEC Warehousing
Making use of the strengths of both systems
The award-winning combination of the dynamic capacities of
the Sequencing Buffer, and cost effectiveness of the Automated
Shuttle Warehouse, has revolutionized automated pallet storage,
retrieval, and sequencing. In this solution all pallets enter and
leave the warehouse via the Sequencing Buffer. In this way a
small Sequencing Buffer allows for a very (cost) efficient and
continuously operating Shuttle Warehouse with minimized pallet
movements.
Benefits
n Storage, retrieval and load preparation in one system
n Design the warehouse on the average flow, not on the peak flow
n Minimized need for equipment
n Agility to deal with changes and dynamics
n Outbound is sequenced and buffered for fast and flawless
loading
n Cost efficient

ORTEC Warehouse Control System
ORTEC Warehouse Control System controls the components
of a warehouse and orchestrates all product flows, while
interfacing with other information systems. It delivers the right
products at the right time at the right location.
The algorithms and logic make sure all of this happens
efficient and reliable. The logic can cope with many different
business-, storage- and retrieval- and picking rules, allowing
your intralogistics systems to adapt rapidly and easily to
logistics changes. ORTEC Warehouse Control System is
a platform to control a wide range of material handling
equipment. In can both control the equipment on PLC-level or
interface with 3rd party PLCs. To learn more, see our ORTEC
Warehouse Control System brochure.
