2. Handling sector requirements
One of the objectives of automatic route planning is to
reduce transport costs. In order to ensure optimal results,
a number of planning parameters were defined based on
TIBA’s specific requirements, such as job priorities, delivery
profiles, or vehicle requirements per customer.
TIBA-Kraftfutter incorporated the following requirements
into the ORTEC Software:
Route optimization
Decision-making support
Handling all restrictions relating to bulk cargo transport,
e.g. compartmentalization, segregation, contamination
Automated and manual route planning
capabilities
TIBA customer orders are logged in the Högemann
system and the data is immediately sent to ORTEC Route
Scheduling via an interface. ORTEC Route Scheduling then
supports the dispatchers by building cost-efficient routes to
deliver the daily orders based on available vehicle and driver
capacity. Customer and vehicle-specific restrictions are
taken into account during the planning process.
‘Rush’ orders
The software also includes a number of semi-automatic
functions to assist in decision-making for inclusion of last
minute or ‘rush’ orders. Manual planning can be used to
amend/integrate the planned routes into the operational
schedules and route maps. The completed routes are then
uploaded into the Högemann system and this information
is used to support production management. ORTEC Route
Scheduling receives automatic telematic updates and this
data is used to update the planned routes. As a result, the
planner is always able to display the exact location and
status of each vehicle per individual route and is able to
react to any delays caused by unforeseen events.
Increased transparency
Following the implementation, TIBA-Kraftfutter has benefited
from optimized routes, reduced mileage and increased
planning transparency. Johannes Penniggers, dispatcher
at Tihen, explains: “ORTEC Route Scheduling enables us
to achieve optimized routes. Furthermore, as a result of
increased planning transparency we are able to deal with
unexpected events more effectively and rapidly.”
