Viscri is a small village in Transylvania, Romania that was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It has fewer than 500 inhabitants, about 27 of whom are Saxon. The village is located 40km from Sighisoara and contains a fortified church from the 16th century that was enlarged from an earlier 12th century chapel. The church now has thick reinforced walls and is supported by buttresses. In addition to the historic church, the village is known for the restoration work done by the Mihai Eminescu Trust foundation, which has helped to preserve not just Viscri but several other Saxon villages in the area.
