2. Cutting
Throughout my film I have used cutting to alter the way in which the audience
perceive the film. This can be through making short, quick cuts in a sequence in
order to show a decline in the protagonist’s mentality, or long, singular shots that
show how he is reflecting deeply.

Here cutting is used as a way
to introduce a dream sequence
to the audience. By cutting
between his dream and him
asleep we know that it is his
dream we are seeing and also
that it is disturbing him, as
seen in him rolling around in
the bed disturbed.

The way in which this section
has been cut into longer single
shots is a way to state that the
protagonist is in a calmer mind-
set, and that he is focused on
one thing at this point, rather
than before.

5. Colour correction and
Colour grading
Colour correcting occurs post production in order for all shots
to look similar and for lighting to appear the same in each shot,
even if whilst filming they were moved around or simply it
became latter in the day.
For colour correcting and colour grading I use the RGB curves
and Color correction.

6. Colour correction in my film
During nearly all scenes I’ve
had to colour correct in order
to remove any over saturation
from filming or make two
scenes look the same.
This is an example of two
different shots needing colour
correction to look the same.
I have found that the easiest
way to do this is to colour
correct on one piece, getting
the general tone correct, and
then copying it over to the
second shot
After colour correcting a
shot, simply right click to
copy. Select the shot you
now wish to colour correct,
right click on this shot and
then select “paste
attributes”

7. Colour grading
Colour grading occurs in order to create an atmosphere or desired effect during
a film. In the case of my film I chose to use greens and blues in order to create a
depressing and moody tone. This is found within many of the example short films
that I watched, such as The Hole and For Elsie.
In both cases the blue/grey colouring gave a gloomy presence that sets up the
emotion of the film.
Here we see a before and after of colour gradient, with the deep blue colouring
connoting the depressing atmosphere of the funeral from the previous scene.

8. Effects
Adding effects such as Ghosting to a shot is similar to colour
grading as it is simply dragging the effect to the shot in
particular.
The effect created by the Ghosting tool meant that there was an
