Originally Takata laid the blame on faulty fitting and car manufacturer error, but they have since

fault. Back in November 2014, it was suspected that Takaya had destroyed details of their internal
testing results, which would have documented the potential fault in the airbags. Due to the large scale
of the recall, it could take some years for all the potentially faulty airbags to be removed from the
market. It has been suggested that even scrapped vehicles will need to be checked, to ensure that the
airbag assembly is not reused in another vehicle.
