Abakah Terry and Teddy: changes in Italian traditions and celebrations
1. Festivities were warmly celebrated in our mum’s
family. In the 1960s 1970s our mum was a
teenager and she can remember that during the
Easter and Christmas season there were always
great celebrations.
2. On Christmas eve they usually met at their
grandmother’s house, while they spent the Christmas day
at home together with all their brothers and relatives; on
Boxing day they usually went to the other grandmother’s
house. Our mum still keeps in her heart the sweet
memories of these old days…
3. Great importance was given to
birthdays, too.
Something special was organized for
everyone.
5. Even today, in our family, we give great importance to these
festivities and to celebrating them according to traditions.
However, we tend to meet in smaller groups and therefore
celebrations no longer include the whole family. This is also
due to the fact that there are so many of us by now that it
would be impossible to meet all together!!!
