• 2015 : “a city making optimal use of the power of technology, ICT (such as
open data and fast connections) and design(thinking) in favour of its citizens.
A city that is actively opening up as a testing ground for companies and
knowledge institutes, with the goals of strengthening welfare, jobs and
sustainability”.
• 2018 : «we want our citizens to share and experience the Brainport success.
We invest in moving the triple helix collaboration into a more powerfull
collaboration with our citizens. They experience and profit as first onces of
the innovations developed in the Brainport region. As such we integrated in
an even better way the economy into our city and region.

Policy
• It is vital to be able to respond fast and capably to new developments. Those
that adapt best will survive in the end. The rapidly changing markets make
the traditional models redundant. So, as a region we have to align our
strategy accordingly. We are looking for a new route to the future, one on
which we can set out together. And that means shifting from Triple Helix to
Multi Helix. No longer restricted to the university-industry-government
triangle but involving citizens, customers, consumers, investors, designers,
artists and corporations. In search of connections between technology,
design and social innovation. But also building bridges to other parts of the
world, to international knowledge regions that can reinforce the position of
Brainport.

Policy / Finances
• To strenthen and broaden the open innovation systems within and between
the top (international) clusters of the South Netherlands the region is
focussing on investing in the market oriented collaboration between SMEs,
large companies and knowledge institutes, where public and private R&D
meet each other and are use to contribute to solving societal challenges. Part
of this effort is the common development of Living Labs, test beds and
shared facilities and instrument for specific innovation routes within
(top)clusters
