Impronta Etica is a non-profit organization created in
2001 to promote sustainability and corporate social
responsibility (CSR).
Its mission is to promote processes towards
sustainability at Italian and European levels,
encouraging its members to transform their efforts
towards innovation into leadership experiences of
sustainable competitiveness.
Impronta Etica is also committed to make Italy a
crucial actor in Europe on the issues of CSR and
sustainable development. To this end, the association
operates as a National Partner Organization of CSR
EUROPE (www.csreurope.org).
OUR MISSION
4. 4
Sustainable development is..
Sustainable development is really two ideas. One, is a way to understand this complicated world. How
do the economic, the social, the environmental, the political, the cultural factors fit together? And the second
aspect of sustainable development is the idea of sensible goals for this crowded, interconnected
planet. How do we make the world both prosperous, fair and also environmentally sustainable, so that our
numbers, and our economy don't overrun the physical planet itself?
One part of sustainable development is to understand the inter-linkages of the economy, of
society, of the environment, and of our politics and government processes, and the other part of
sustainable development to do something about it.

SUSTAINABILITY AND ITS EVOLUTION
From secondary
topic
To a strategic topic
• In the 50s: Sustainability is linked
to the moral of the entrepreneur
• In the 70s: the company is
responsible when it does its "duty":
it respects the laws, pays taxes and
creates profit
• 2020: Sustainability is increasingly
integrated within the organization in a
strategic way and becomes an integral
part of corporate behavior.
13. In a context such as the current one that is increasingly complex and constantly evolving, the role of
associations such as Impronta Etica is really important.
For Impronta Etica a sustainable future is the only possible one and companies must be protagonists of
the change necessary to reverse the trend. Together with our members, we want to encourage
companies to take the lead in understanding and analyzing the contest in which we are living and
therefore create strategic collaborations. In other words, understand the situation in order to take
action.
IN THIS SCENARIO, WHAT IMPRONTA ETICA CAN DO?

14. To move from the business as usual trajectory to the sustainable development trajectory, and in order
to accomplish that, every part of the world will have to be involved in brainstorming in determining new
and creative ways to ensure inclusive and sustainable growth.
That's going to be our job in the coming years, and that's going to be our task in the coming years,
where we investigate what those problems are, what their core features are and what innovative new
design can mean, to enable us to choose that path of sustainable development.
