A STUDY ON THE RELATIONSHIP
BETWEEN OUT-OF CLASSROOM
LEARNING AND KPTM KL
STUDENTS’ACHIEVEMENT:
INTRODUCTION
 English as communication bridge in learning
environment
 A continuous process where usually also
includes informal context (Zhou, 2007)
 The dimension of informal learning context has
expanded widely making leaning opportunities
more available especially with online or software
language programs (Tan , Nabb, Kim, & Aagard,
2010)
BACKGROUND OF
RESEARCH
 Focus on students’ difficulties in English language
proficiency
 ESL speakers are encouraged to engage with
informal context learning preferably using an
online or computer mediated program (Tan ,
Nabb, Kim, & Aagard, 2010)
 Contributions to improvement in English
proficiency
 Crucial to understand the context of out-of
classroom learning (Murray, 2010)
PROBLEM STATEMENT
 The students give most of their time attending
formal classes and forgetting about the classes
the minute they step out of them (Tan , Nabb,
Kim, & Aagard, 2010)
 Students have to be more proactive to improve
their proficiency
 Students’ perceptions regarding out of class
learning tools and delivering methods
RESEARCH OBJECTIVES
To investigate the effect of language
learning software on KPTM KL students’
achievement.
To discover the perceptions of KPTM KL
students regarding out of classroom
learning using language learning software.
To distinguish how KPTM KL students use
their free time to develop their English
language proficiency.
