Guidance is an important subject for early childhood educators to understand. It teaches strategies for setting limits, providing choices, and helping children develop independence and responsibility. As educators, we must create nurturing environments that help children grow into strong, healthy individuals. When conflicts arise, it is essential to understand children's development and apply age-appropriate guidance techniques. The most important lesson is establishing a positive setting to encourage good behavior and prevent issues through indirect guidance, appropriate expectations, effective space and time management, and engaging curriculum. This knowledge will help the author be successful as both an educator and a parent.

Guidance strategies for positive child development

Perspectives learned from the guidance journals
When I think back about subjects that I have learned from my second
semester, the subject “Guidance”, is one of the most interesting subjects that I
really enjoyed. I believe that I have gained my knowledge about guiding young
children. I also believe that as an early childhood educator we should have
enormous knowledge about guidance strategies and child development. Such as
setting limits, negotiation, providing choices and healthy conflict resolution
strategies. Children are our future therefore I believe it is our responsibility to help
them to be responsible and independent human beings. We must help them to have
peaceful, healthy nurturing environment to live in that will help us to create a
healthy and strong new generation for our future.
I believe as early childhood educators, when we are working with children
we are faced with many different conflicts throughout the day. Children are very
active little people who like to explore the world around them. Like it or not, they
copy what they see. Therefore it is very important to understand children’s feelings
and apply age appropriate guidance strategies based on child development.
I believe the most important thing that I have learned from my guidance
subject is how to provide a positive environment in order to prevent negative
behaviour. We should have more control over any situation that can cause conflict
between children. We should apply our strategy quickly to the situation in order to
prevent negative behaviour. The most important thing that I learned that we would
set a positive environment to encourage appropriate behaviour (indirect guidance).
Therefore we should have good knowledge about whole child and the
environment. Such as forming appropriate expectations/limits based on child
development, managing space, time and energy, planning curriculum that engages
the whole child based on their interest and cues in order to prevent or reduce such a
conflict situations.
I believe the knowledge I gained from my guidance subject will help me to
be successful in my field placement and also as a mother of two young children it
will help me a lot in order to guide my own children.
