Key points to know about Diabetes Mellitus

1. ABC’s of Diabetes.
A- is for A1c
 It provides the big picture of a person’s overall blood glucose levels over the last 2-3
months. (A1c should be below 6-7%)
B- is for blood pressure
 High blood pressure makes your heart work harder than it should.
C - is for cholesterol
 LDL cholesterol clogs blood vessels. They become narrow or blocked, which can lead to
chest pains, heart attack, etc.
 HDL cholesterol helps remove cholesterol deposits from blood vessels.
 Triglycerides- another kind of blood fat that can increase the risk of heart disease.
