    1. 1. INTRAMURAL SPORTS Dodgeball Referee Training
    2. 2. <ul><li>General Rules </li></ul><ul><li>Teams can have 6 players on the court at the beginning of a game </li></ul><ul><li>There must be at least 4 players on a team present to begin a game </li></ul><ul><li>CO-ED RULE: There must be at least 1 female on the court at the beginning of a game </li></ul>MANAGER'S MEETING
    3. 3. <ul><li>Marino Center Rules </li></ul><ul><li>Any player that grabs the rim or dunks will be immediately ejected from the Marino Center, no exceptions! This is your only warning, along with the signs on the walls. </li></ul><ul><li>There are absolutely no cell phones, cameras, or any kind of bag (backpack, purse, dufflebag, etc.) allowed on the 2 nd and 3 rd floors of the Marino Center </li></ul><ul><li>Any player that grabs the rim or dunks will be immediately ejected from the Marino Center, no exceptions ! </li></ul>MANAGER'S MEETING

    6. 6. <ul><li>Starting a Game </li></ul><ul><li>At the beginning of a game, 4 balls are lined up along the center line </li></ul><ul><li>Players begin behind their respective end lines </li></ul><ul><li>Extra players must stay along the walls and may not enter the court at any time </li></ul><ul><li>When the referee blows the whistle to begin the game, players run up to grab a ball. If a player steps over the center line, they are OUT. </li></ul><ul><li>Players may not throw balls until after the referee blows a second whistle at the 10-second mark </li></ul>MANAGER'S MEETING

    11. 11. <ul><li>Using a Ball as a Shield </li></ul><ul><li>Players may use the ball to defend themselves or deflect throws </li></ul><ul><ul><li>If the ball is deflected and a teammate catches it, the thrower is OUT </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>If the player drops the ball they attempted to use to deflect another ball, the player is OUT </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>If the ball is deflected into the player, they are OUT </li></ul></ul>MANAGER'S MEETING

    13. 13. <ul><li>OUTS </li></ul><ul><li>Catching the Ball: </li></ul><ul><li>When a player catches a thrown ball in mid air, the thrower is OUT </li></ul><ul><ul><li>If players on the catching team are OUT, 1 may return to play or “regenerate” </li></ul></ul><ul><li>When a player catches a thrown ball after it bounces on the ground or off of any walls, the thrower is NOT OUT </li></ul><ul><li>When a player catches a ball that first bounced off a teammate and has not yet contacted the ground, the thrower is OUT </li></ul><ul><ul><li>In this situation, even though the ball was caught before the ball hits the ground, an OUT player on the catching team will NOT “regenerate” since they “saved” </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>their teammate </li></ul></ul>MANAGER'S MEETING
    14. 14. <ul><li>Holding the Ball </li></ul><ul><li>A player may only hold the ball for 15 seconds, after which they must throw the ball </li></ul><ul><li>If they do not throw the ball within 15 seconds, they are OUT for delay of game </li></ul>MANAGER'S MEETING
    15. 15. <ul><li>Retrieving the Ball Out of Bounds </li></ul><ul><li>If no one is out, ONE team member may retrieve balls out of bounds </li></ul><ul><li>All other players MUST remain in bounds </li></ul><ul><li>Additional players that go out of bounds will be called OUT </li></ul><ul><li>If players are out, they may retrieve balls for their teammates </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Players who are out may NOT enter the court area </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>They may retrieve balls on their OWN SIDE of the court in the out of bounds area only </li></ul></ul>MANAGER'S MEETING
    16. 16. <ul><li>Arguing Calls - Unsportsmanlike Penalties </li></ul><ul><li>Players who receive 2 unsportsmanlike penalties will be ejected from the game and the building </li></ul><ul><li>Unsportsmanlike penalties include: </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Arguing Calls </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Deliberately interfering with players on the opposing team </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Cursing at or taunting players on the opposing team </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Players may NOT argue calls at any time.     17. 17. <ul><li>Arguing Calls - Unsportsmanlike Penalties </li></ul><ul><li>Quoted from the Dodgeball Rules: </li></ul><ul><li>The calls and determinations of the officials are FINAL. If an official has called you OUT, you are OUT. Teams that argue the calls of an official will be warned ONCE by the IM staff. Subsequent infractions will result in the game being ended and forfeited by the violating team. The team will then be REMOVED from competition. </li></ul>MANAGER'S MEETING
