2. The Five Most Important IM Policies

 Game time is forfeit time – please ensure you have enough rostered
players present prior to the start of your scheduled contest.
 Only a team’s captain may confer with the officials.
 All players must present their valid Northeastern University issued
Husky Card in order to play.
 All roster management is done via the IMLeagues platform.
 After the season’s schedule is published, regular season games will
not be rescheduled at a team’s request.

4. General Rules

 Each match consists of three games to 15 points
 The first team to win two games wins the match
 The match will begin with a racquet spin
 The winner may choose to serve first or choose a side
 Teams switch sides after the first and second game
 Teams also switch when the leading score reaches 8 points in the
third game

5. The Regular Season & Playoffs

 Regular season games will not be rescheduled
 Losing By Default:
 If a team can not play and contacts the intramural department to indicate this and fills
out the Default Form on the Campus Recreation Website, they will lose by default.
 Team will not lose the forfeit bond.
 Playoffs:
 The top team in each league will advance to the playoffs
 If two teams are tied in the standings the following will be used to determine who will
advance:
 Sportsmanship
 Forfeited games
 Head-to-head record
 Point differential

page #6 of the Intramural Manager’s Handbook.

6. Service

 The server and receiver stand in diagonally opposite service courts
without touching the boundary lines of their service courts
 There are no overhand serves in badminton
 The server’s racquet hits the base of the shuttle while the entire
shuttle is below the server’s waist
 A service court error has been made when
 A player has served out of turn
 A player has served from the wrong court
 A player receives service in the wrong service court
 If a service error is discovered before the next service is delivered, it is a
“let” unless only one side was at fault and lost the rally
 In that case, the error shall not be corrected

7. Faults

 Faults Occur:
 If a service is incorrect
 After passing over the net, the shuttle is caught in or on the net
 If a player contacts the shuttle on the opponent’s side of the net
 If while in play the shuttle lands outside the court boundaries,
touches the walls or ceiling, or passes through or under the net
 If a player touches the net or steps under the net into the opponent’s
court
 If a player deliberately distracts an opponent by shouting or making
unnecessary gestures
 If the shuttle is hit twice in succession by the same player or by a
player and the player’s partner successively

8. Lets

 “Lets” are called to halt play in the following instances:
 Any unforeseen or accidental occurrence
 If a shuttle, after passing over the net, becomes caught in the net
(note: it will not be a let when this occurs during a service)
 If the server serves before the returner is ready
 When a let occurs the play since the last service shall not count and the
player that served will serve again.

9. Unsportsmanlike Conduct

 All jewelry must be removed prior to the beginning of the match
 Players found with jewelry during the match will cost their team a
point and a side out
 Only Captains may clarify calls with the officials. Players that argue calls
will be issued an unsportsmanlike conduct
