Syria shoebox appeal
1. Shoebox4 Syria Appeal
• For the last week of term, all tutor groups
have the opportunity to put together a
gift box for a child to open in Syria to help
them to celebrate Eid al-Fitr.
• This cause has been nominated by a
Beauchamp student, who has been
involved with it for the last three years
• The boxes will be sent to Syrian refugee
camps where they will arrive in time for
Eid al-Fitr at the end of June.
2. Why Support This Cause?
Children have paid the heaviest price in the Syria
conflict, and in 2016 their suffering hit rock bottom in
a drastic escalation of violence. Nearly 6 million
children now depend on humanitarian assistance,
with almost half forced to flee their homes. - UNICEF
Children in Syria are suffering from “toxic stress”, a
severe form of psychological trauma that can cause
life-long damage, according to a study that charts a
rise in self-harm and suicide attempts among children
as young as 12. - Save the Children
A gift box can help a Syrian boy or girl to simply be a
child, and enjoy something that gives them a chance
to just have fun. Please give generously!

Halfway down the article is a video of the boy, five-year-old Omran Daqneesh, being carried from a bombed building and placed in the ambulance. Be warned that it’s upsetting, so you may want to watch it first to be sure that it’s suitable for all of your tutees.
