INTERACTIVE READING

ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS: What led to the downfall of the Roman Republic? Who were
Rome’s leaders? How effective were their policies?

MYD expectations:
Have a positive attitude. Set up your paper or poster like mine with the
appropriate amount of bullets. The next to last level 1 activity will need a
LOT of room. You will be doing this in groups of 2. Find your partner
within 30 seconds to a minute or you will do this alone. You will pick your
grade based on which level (s) you complete. This is challenging so do
your best. Do one level at a time! The teacher will be the guide on the
side.

USE PP 134- 136
LEVEL ONE
- What prior knowledge do you have about Rome?
- What is one thing you plan to learn today? I hope to learn ______. (do not use the word “about” in your
  sentence)
- What is one thing you think you will need to know in order to succeed today?
- Prior to reading, scan the reading, pictures, and maps to describe the setting in a short paragraph.
- Prior to reading, describe one of the pictures in a short paragraph.
- Prior to reading, list the essential vocabulary in the section.
- Take turns reading each subtitle. Once you read the subtitle, write what you learned from the subtitles in
a complete sentence. Do NOT copy from the text. There are 9 subtitles I want you to focus on so there
will need to be 12 sentences.
- After reading write 3 Level 1 questions about the content. (A level 1 question starts off with “Who”
  “What” “When” or “Where”)

LEVEL TWO
- What words kept repeating? How do those words connect to the essential questions?
- Create an analogy dealing with anything you learned today. (This is like ____ because ___)
- What might cause conflict between any of the individuals or groups that you read in this lesson?
- What words helped you visualize what you read today? What was it about the word that helped you
  envision what you read?
- Draw a picture of something you learned today. Do NOT trace or simply get the picture from the book.
  Be original and unique.
- Create two open-ended questions about the content today. (Why did_____? How does____? What
  if_____?)

LEVEL THREE
- Write 3 comments about the reading. Use the templates in () ( It bothers me that _____. I can relate to
this because ______. In my opinion, _____because _____. )
- What are two different points of view on any event or concept from today’s reading? Which side do you
agree with the most? Why? (look back at the part dealing with assassination)
- Complete an if/then statement. (If_____, then _________.)
- Answer each of your questions from Levels 1 and 2. This will be your summary for today.

Your grade will be based on the scale below

Level 1 complete-80
Level 2 complete-90
Level 3 complete- 100
