2. ABOUT ME
Bachelor’s degree in Education (Library and
Information Science) and a Master’s in
Education (Educational Media and Technology)
from Tai Solarin University of Education (the first
university of education in Nigeria).
Certificate in Teaching and Learning (CIE), from
Cambridge University, U.K, and got my teaching
license from the Teachers Registration Council
of Nigeria (TRCN). I have completed a course on
Data Privacy and PII (Custom) – INFOSEC IQ, and
Google Foundations of Project Management
Certificate, among others.
I am currently a recipient of the ERASMUS+
Mobility grant as part of the Master in English
Language winner of the ISITE-BFC "Rare Book
and Digital Humanities" call for projects. This
funding is currently used in the funding of my
research at the Centre for Digital Humanities,
University of Lagos in Nigeria.
5. DEFINING THE CONCEPT
DIGITAL HUMANITIES DIGITAL CULTURE GEOSPATIAL
DH is an academic field
concerned with applying
computational tools and
methods to traditional
humanities disciplines. Hence
DH is using digital tools and
methods, and formats in
humanities work.
Digital culture studies social,
cultural, ethical, and aesthetic
aspects of information- and
communication technology (ICT).
The primary focus areas are
digital art and culture and the
interaction between culture and
technology.
Geospatial is the use of mapping
and geospatial technologies for
social, cultural, and historical
inquiry, which includes
application-based GIS systems,
web mapping, and spatial network
analysis used to define spatial
relationships.
6. CULTURE
“A people without the
knowledge of their past history,
origin and culture is like a tree
without roots”.
Marcus Garvey (1887-1940)

8. WHY SHOULD WE USE
MAPS IN DIGITAL
HUMANITIES?
Maps and Digital Humanities
are an essential part of digital
culture, especially in the context
of spatial and network analysis.
A map can be an excellent way
to present data visually, as
either an alternative or a
supplement to narrative text.
9. THE BENEFIT OF USING GEOSPATIAL IN
DIGITAL CULTURE
01 02 03 04
The ability to compare
independently produced
datasets; offer topographical,
environmental and political
context; produce compelling
and informative visualizations
at a range of scales
Potentially relate a
historically remote period
or even fictional events to
the user's experiential
knowledge (e.g. 'Sherlock
Holmes' London').
The interactive nature of
digital map also allow for a
much greater range of
complexity to be
managed, manipulated
and viewed than is
possible with paper maps.
They are open sources and
are mainly free to use. It
gives you the source code to
embed directly into your
website.
10. FREE DIGITAL HUMANITIES
GEOSPATIAL TOOLS
StoryMap JS: is a free tool that allows users to tell stories
by mapping a series of events and corresponding
locations.
ArcGIS: A robust, industry-standard GIS tool for
the management, analysis, and display of
geographic information.
Google My Maps: Design and publish
customized maps using Google services
Flourish: is a tool available to researchers at no
cost that allows you to upload your data and
create a variety of different data visualizations,
ranging from simple bar graphs and charts to
interactive story maps.

OBJECTIVES
We will create a real-time DH corpus in this session, you can also suggest a
DH project that can be linked in your research of field of practice. If agreed
upon, we can design the framework together.
