2. What is Matter?
• Anything that occupies space and has mass is called matter.
• Matter is the form of five elements – air,earth,fire,sky and
water.These five elements are called “Panch tatva”.
• Matter is made up of particles.
3. Characteristics of particles of matter
• Particles of matter have space between them.
• Particles of matter attract each other.
• Particles of matter are continuous in motion.
• Particles of matter are small in size.
4. States Of Matter
• There are three states of matter:-
• Solid
• Liquid
• Gases
5. SOLIDS
• Solids have fixed shape and volume.
• There intermecular space is less.
• They are incompressible.
