Kirobo, a robot created by the Kibo Robot Project to be helpful, harmless, and honest, launched aboard an unmanned cargo spacecraft called Kounotori 4 from the Tanegashima Space Center in Japan on August 4th. Kirobo will spend approximately 6 days traveling to the International Space Station, where it will remain for about 18 months to conduct experiments and interact with astronauts. Members of the Kibo Robot Project witnessed the successful launch, which carried Kirobo into space so it can demonstrate new possibilities for human-robot interaction in space.
