Leanness Lifestyle 180 Review

Over the years, I have often been asked what precipitated my weight loss (which I’ve mostly kept
off) nearly six years ago – and I give credit to the online transformation program and book, “The
Leanness Lifestyle”. Back then, most people looked rather quizzically at me when I mentioned
“coaching online” and “weight loss” in the same sentence, but fast forward seven years and the
landscape has truly evolved with a plethora of online programs available, both in Australia and
overseas.
Back in 2005, I followed the Leanness Lifestyle program online, after reading the book. As an
overweight exercise scientist who was feeling rather desperate about losing weight and also
highly sceptical about what help was out there, I didn’t know where to turn. I was also
embarrassed about seeing someone locally due to my education and that I was supposed to
“know” what to do.
I picked up David’s book, thinking that I’d be reading about some unsustainable way of losing the
weight (again). However, to my surprise, the information in the book was easy to read and
evidence based (with references!). The scientist in me was suitably impressed! I decided to
apply to trial the program for a month and was asked to submit some good reasons why I should
be allowed to join! Rather shocked, it got me thinking about WHY I truly wanted to be rid of
the weight for good and this precipitated the beginning of my weight loss journey, with David
challenging me all the way and teaching me to become accountable to myself. The best part
of all was that I could do it online, in the privacy of my own home.
During 2005, I participated in a 5 week weight loss intensive known as a Leanness Lifestyle
Bootcamp. It was designed to give participants an intense boost to their weight loss journey. I
lost 5kg in 5 weeks and kept it off and in 2006, prepared for three figure competitions. The
above picture is one of me three weeks out from my last competition – in tip top shape and
feeling and looking very healthy.
Over the years I have maintained my membership with Leanness Lifestyle and during this time,
David spent a great deal of time learning and developing different parts of the website, as well
as certifying as a Health and Wellness Coach. I noticed that Leanness Lifestyle was gradually
evolving into a program where long term weight control and ‘lifestyle’ was central to its values,
more so than prepping for a one off 12 week transformation.
In 2011, Leanness Lifestyle announced a completely new concept – a 20 week Bootcamp (now
known as Lifestyle 180) where there was a focus, not only on physique transformation, but on
long term weight maintenance, which is as far as I’m aware, a first for any transformation
program. Although I didn’t have a lot of weight to lose (5kg) , I signed up for the program,
which involved tutorials on how to use the website, live teleconferences, assignments and
homework. To participate in this program wasn’t a flippant undertaking – it was hard work!
Joining me on the program were 80 participants from all walks of life – as well as similar
professions to me – there was a dietitian and a doctor on my course.
Whilst I had training down to a tee, I had plenty to in terms of listening to recordings, managing
my time and doing my homework. All the time I was being watched by Dave or one of his
assistant coaches who would be in touch if homework, assignments or workout plans weren’t
completed. Once I was fined for forgetting to hand something in (the money goes to charity)
– I never made that mistake again! Plus if I was feeling overwhelmed, I could get in touch with
any coach via Private Messaging and be contacted within 24 hours, usually less.
However, it was one of the best 20 weeks of my life, because, in order to get through the
program and graduate, I had to focus on myself and the way I managed my life. When David
states that long term weight maintenance has little to do with “eating less and exercising more”, I
find myself nodding in agreement. In my own experience, seven years after losing a lot of
weight, I know this to be true and I personally found the teleconferences relating to life
management and honouring your values to be the most enriching of all.
After last year’s Bootcamp, David decided to change the course name to “Lifestyle 180″, to
more accurately reflect the what the true essence of Leanness Lifestyle is about – doing a
complete 180 on your life and transforming from the inside out.
If you’ve been thinking of doing an online program and you’re prepared to work really hard, not
just on nutrition and exercise, but on the whole of your life, then consider checking it out
because the 2013 program starts soon. It’s not for everyone, but if you’re in the position where
you feel you’ve ‘tried everything’, then LL may just be what you’re looking for.

I decided to apply to trial the program for a month and was asked to submit some good reasons why I should be allowed to join! Rather shocked, it got me thinking about WHY I truly wanted to be rid of the weight for good and this precipitated the beginning of my weight loss journey, with David challenging me all the way and teaching me to become accountable to myself. The best part of all was that I could do it online, in the privacy of my own home. During 2005, I participated in a 5 week weight loss intensive known as a Leanness Lifestyle Bootcamp. It was designed to give participants an intense boost to their weight loss journey. I lost 5kg in 5 weeks and kept it off and in 2006, prepared for three figure competitions. The above picture is one of me three weeks out from my last competition – in tip top shape and feeling and looking very healthy. Over the years I have maintained my membership with Leanness Lifestyle and during this time, David spent a great deal of time learning and developing different parts of the website, as well as certifying as a Health and Wellness Coach. I noticed that Leanness Lifestyle was gradually evolving into a program where long term weight control and ‘lifestyle’ was central to its values, more so than prepping for a one off 12 week transformation. In 2011, Leanness Lifestyle announced a completely new concept – a 20 week Bootcamp (now known as Lifestyle 180) where there was a focus, not only on physique transformation, but on long term weight maintenance, which is as far as I’m aware, a first for any transformation program. Although I didn’t have a lot of weight to lose (5kg) , I signed up for the program, which involved tutorials on how to use the website, live teleconferences, assignments and homework. To participate in this program wasn’t a flippant undertaking – it was hard work! Joining me on the program were 80 participants from all walks of life – as well as similar
  • 3. professions to me – there was a dietitian and a doctor on my course. Whilst I had training down to a tee, I had plenty to in terms of listening to recordings, managing my time and doing my homework. All the time I was being watched by Dave or one of his assistant coaches who would be in touch if homework, assignments or workout plans weren’t completed. Once I was fined for forgetting to hand something in (the money goes to charity) – I never made that mistake again! Plus if I was feeling overwhelmed, I could get in touch with any coach via Private Messaging and be contacted within 24 hours, usually less. However, it was one of the best 20 weeks of my life, because, in order to get through the program and graduate, I had to focus on myself and the way I managed my life. When David states that long term weight maintenance has little to do with “eating less and exercising more”, I find myself nodding in agreement. In my own experience, seven years after losing a lot of weight, I know this to be true and I personally found the teleconferences relating to life management and honouring your values to be the most enriching of all. After last year’s Bootcamp, David decided to change the course name to “Lifestyle 180″, to more accurately reflect the what the true essence of Leanness Lifestyle is about – doing a complete 180 on your life and transforming from the inside out. If you’ve been thinking of doing an online program and you’re prepared to work really hard, not just on nutrition and exercise, but on the whole of your life, then consider checking it out because the 2013 program starts soon. It’s not for everyone, but if you’re in the position where you feel you’ve ‘tried everything’, then LL may just be what you’re looking for.
