The Pros And Cons Of The Internet, Television, And Social...
We live in a world surrounded by hate, discrimination, bullying, suicide, and unrealistic expectations. I am not saying these things did not exist in
previous years, but they have manifested into a monster that cannot be stopped. Everywhere you go you can probably count on one hand how many
people you see not on their phones. The issues I stated are mainly related to the internet, television, and social media. There are more cons about the
internet, TV, and social media than there are pros. Some cons are delayed child development, long–term mental disorders, cyberbullying, and suicide,
while pros are easy to access to articles and news, communicating, the convenience of having the world at your fingertips. With privileges provided by
internet, social media, and TV comes responsibility, and many people don't understand the consequences of one harsh comment, hours of watching TV,
and reading false facts on the internet. Limiting screen time would drastically change the mental and physical effects on humans.
The first major social media surge was in the early 2000's. MySpace set the foundation for the media–controlled world that we live in today. Facebook
and Twitter began around the year 2005. Today there are over one billion people on Facebook and 330 million active users on Twitter. It is estimated
that 81% of the world's population has social media; that is approximately two billion people more worried about their phones than about what is
happening around them. Children

Taking a Look at Netflix
External environment analysis PESTELThere are not many political elements, the main things Netflix must worry about is the growing internet
based business industry and the truth that one day it will be more heavily regulated by the government because of its size. Economic factors are
that what Netflix offers is a luxury, and a need not necessarily a want. So people will only pay what they feel the value of Netflix's offering is,
therefore Netflix must keep its price low to appeal to a greater range of consumers. Hence the price drop in 2011. Social factors include the portion
of the population that finds movies an attractive hobby. If movie viewing becomes less popular Netflix can go under, as well as is streaming
movies online becomes unpopular could also cause Netflix to collapse. Technological factors are perfect for Netflix. This is literally what Netflix has
going for it, Netflix's advanced software and numerous apps for different personal devices are what Netflix does best and how it's name and product
own the market. Environmental factors, the only ones I see Netflix having issues with is that computers are harmful to the environment in energy
consumption, and Netflix has thousands of servers running 24/7 to be able to stream all of it's movies online. Lastly, is legal and that goes back to the
FCC and SEC beginning it's tightening down on the regulations of internet based business as well as the copyright laws by the production companies.

Netflix, Inc. is the world's largest subscription service company that caters to more than 53 million subscribers in more than 40 countries including
North and South America, United Kingdom, many locations in Europe and the Caribbean. The company was established in 1997 by Marc Randolph

being the first considerably competitive company to offer streaming movie services, they have significantly leveraged their first mover advantage in
this market segment. Netflix's strong financial health gives it the flexibility to follow opportunities in nearly any aspect of the entertainment provider
industry. Its latest project, original television programming, were all paid easily with the $1.2 billion in cash reserves. Its strong cash flow also
confirms that the company is in no danger financially, and as long as its strategy remains competitive, the company has the cash to experiment and
innovate.

Netflix's Strengths And Weaknesses
1 Overview of Netflix Netflix is an American entertainment company specializing in streaming and video–on–demand services. The company has three
main departments: domestic streaming, international streaming, and domestic DVD. Currently, Netflix streams to over 190 countries, with a
combined worldwide viewership of 93 million. 1.1 History Netflix was founded in Scotts Valley, California by Marc Randolph and Reed Hastings on
August 29, 1997 (Keating, 2012). The initial focus of the business was DVD rental by mail, which was a new technology at the time. The business
was launched on April 14, 1998, with 30 employees and a catalogue of 925 DVDs. In 2007, Netflix began their international expansion with the
introduction of streaming services in Canada. In 2014, Netflix expanded into 41... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
4.1 Massive ScaleNetflix's size confers significant economies of scale, since marginal costs of allocating content to an additional user is minimal.
Profit margins improve as subscriber counts increase, allowing Netflix to purchase more content and increase its attractiveness. Termed as a "virtuous
cycle" by Hastings, it gives Netflix an edge over smaller–scale competitors such as Hulu (Bylund, 2013). Netflix's massive size is valuable, rare, and
costly to imitate. The company is also organized to leverage on its massive scale by fully utilizing all the benefits it confers, such as usership data and
continued global expansion. It is thus a long term competitive advantage. 4.2 Strong BrandingNetflix has become synonymous with Internet video
streaming; users often envisage watching Netflix instead of watching individual shows. In comparison, the closest competitors such as Hulu and
Redbox are not nearly as well known, whilst Amazon Prime Instant Video is often overlooked due to it being packaged with the Amazon Prime
membership (Snider,

Netflix 's Successful Implementation Of Managerial...
Over the past 7 years, Netflix streaming has expanded from thousands of members watching a show from time to time to millions of members
watching over two billion hours every single month. Each time a member starts to watch a movie or TV episode, a "view" is created in the data
systems, and a collection of events describing that view is gathered. Given that viewing is what members spend most of their time doing on Netflix,
having a robust and scalable architecture to manage and process this data is critical to the success of the business. A huge part of Netflix's success can
be attributed to their successful implementation of managerial information system. Netflix records data on content that consumers have watched in the
past and bases suggested movies and TV shows based that particular consumer's history. This provides the consumer with a highly personalized
streaming experience that tailors showcases all the material Netflix has to offer that would actually interest that one customer. Netflix's competitor
Hulu didn't implement such data mining strategies right away and instead observed Netflix to see if their implementation of datamining would be
successful. While they were awaiting results from Netflix, Hulu would just show their customers all of their available content from the menu screen.
This caused a very convoluted and overwhelming menu screen to pick out a movie or show from. It's this accessibility that drove Netflix to surpass
other streaming services such

Netflix Strategic Plan
Currently, there are only a few stores in existence; "it continues to operate in Alaska and Texas for those last of the hardcore video renters".
Blockbuster will soon be extinct.
Netflix is currently utilized in 190 countries and projecting expansion to over 200 countries within the next two years. CEO Reed Hastings and CFO
David Wells wrote to their investors stating: "Progress has been so strong that we now believe we can complete our global expansion over the next
two years, while staying profitable, which is earlier than we expected". Strategically, Netflix decided that now is time to expand globally. As a result,
Netflix ended the year of 2014 with a total of 57.39 million subscribers increasing from 44.35 million in 2013.
Even though Netflix is successful in revenue and expanded globally, it is vital for the organization to create a SWOT analysis "which stands for a
company 's strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (Abraham, 2012). Netflix does have a competitive market such as Amazon.com and
Hulu that are becoming more popular with their lower monthly pricing. They also have a more simplified catalogue of consumer favorite new titled
movies and TV shows. In order for Netflix to stay competitive with a strong strategic plan, let's take a look at the SWOT to identify what the best
course of actions would be to increase and/or sustain the current procedure for the benefit of the company, its employees and the satisfaction of it
consumers.

The Adoption And Viability Of A New Business Model
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES The principle objective of this project is to discuss the adoption and viability of a new business model in which Internet
streaming media companies have started to develop their own content. By researching the industry trends, we will understand why and how companies
use 2–sided platforms to bring together and satisfy two different groups of users. Furthermore, with particular focus on Amazon and Netflix, we will
expand the scope of our competitive analysis by exploring other strategies that can be used to gain a competitive foothold across the different media
industries. By discuss the sustainability of the different strategies, we intend to argue this new business model will become dominant within the

INTRODUCTION Today, the online media streaming of Film, TV and Music is being rapidly driven by the increasing availability and prominence of
high–speed internet as well as an ever–increasing repertoire of interconnected electronic devices. The result is a real–time entertainment industry that
has experienced tremendous growth over the last decade and is thought to attributable for two thirds of data usage by 2018. Within 10 years the video
streaming is expected to almost triple in size beyond $10 billion, driven largely by a more "connected" living room (Kerr, 2013; Davidson, 2015)
These advancements are changing the landscape of how media is distributed as business models adapt to diversifying technology and changing
consumer behaviour. As a result, more traditional methods of distribution, outlined in figure 1, have been affected. In particular, this impact is of
high–profile concern in the music industry, where profits have been impaired as music becomes available on these services soon after its production
(Milne, 2014). With regards to TV shows and Films, streaming services are often the last in the release window for content distribution and can only
attract users that want to re–watch shows or those they have missed them during the previous windows. At the same time, a greater degree of autonomy
provides consumers

Netflix Is The World's Leading Internet Television Network
According to Ernst & Young LLP (2015), Netflix "is the world's leading Internet television network with over 57 million streaming members in nearly
50 countries (p. 1)." Since its launch in 2007, Netflix has expanded streaming services internationally into Canada, Latin America, and Europe (Ernst &
Young LLP, 2015). However, to continue its success, Netflix must evolve with its business strategy, evaluate the company's outlook, minimizerisk
factors, and analyze the auditor's report that will help investors identify as relevant to an investing decision.
Netflix has a business strategy that is composed of three business segments: domestic streaming, international streaming, and domestic DVD (Ernst &
Young LLP, 2015). The two streaming segments (i.e., domestic and international) "derive revenue from monthly membership fees for services
consisting solely of streaming content," while the domestic DVD segment derives revenues "solely of DVD–by mail," also from monthly membership
fees (Ernst & Young LLP, 2015, p. 62). A subscriber can receive either streaming service or DVD service from one monthly membership fee, but not
both (Ernst & Young LLP, 2015).
Netflix has a neutral company outlook to its services because the market for entertainment services is very competitive and tends to change rapidly
(Ernst & Young LLP, 2015). For instance, Netflix competes with video providers such as HBO, who now offers its own streaming services directly to
the customer. As a result, it is

This paper reviews the required elements of the audit analysis of Netflix prepared by Nicole Thom. Thom has clearly provided an introduction
describing Netflix's products and markets, including its competitors. The history of the company and its industry are also clear and complete. I think
we can also mention that Netflix, Inc. is the world's leading Internet television network with over 75 million streaming members in over 190 countries
enjoying more than 125 million hours of TV shows and movies per day, including original series, documentaries and feature films. Netflix's core

Other Ratios
There are no other ratios computed or commented upon or additional items besides the three ratios afore mentioned. Additional items that I could add
are the risk factors faced by Netflix.
Business Risks In the annual 10–K report, Netflix mentions many business risks, but I chose to only state the following three:
– If Netflix's efforts to attract and retain members are not successful, the business will be adversely affected;
– Changes in how we market our service could adversely affect our marketing expenses and membership levels may be adversely affected;
– Any significant disruption in or unauthorized access to its computer systems or those of third parties that Netflix utilize in its operations, including
those relating to cybersecurity or arising from cyber–attacks, could result in a loss or degradation of service, unauthorized disclosure of data, including
member and corporate information, or theft of intellectual property, including digital content assets, which could adversely impact the

Television and the Internet
Television and The Internet
Having already done my fair share of internet surfing, I was excited to finally have the opportunity to do a research paper that involved this vast and
seemingly boundless electronic world. It is easy to passively interact with the rest of the world and scan effortlessly through millions of pages of
information, some of which is useful, some of which simply takes up space; the problem that many researchers and interest groups face is making
sense of the whole thing.
What effects does the internet have on people? This question is no doubt an immense one. In this paper I will attempt to explore the effects the internet
has on one major aspect of our everyday lives: television. The internet is not

The information on characters can include both their fictional roles and their real–life situation.
(Sites devoted to some of the better looking actors and actresses seem to be a very popular attraction). Therefore, if someone wanted to inquire about
an aspect of a series, which will most likely enhance his or her experience for the show, the information is available in minutes. For example, I was
curious as to who wrote one of my favorite Simpsons episodes, The Monorail. Within one minute,
I had discovered that Conan O'Brien had written it, enhancing my appreciation for both The Simpsons and his talk show. Most "official" sites,
either sponsored by the show or the network, provide scripts to past episodes and details on, or clues to, future episodes; often explaining the
motivations and/or hidden agendas behind many of the episodes. People from around the world can either follow a show that they don't have access
to (see responses 5, 15), perhaps in a different country, or read the summaries of episodes that they have missed. Included in these sites are popular
images and sounds of the characters, trivia based on the episode, internet "treasure hunts," as well as other interactive elements; all promoting increased
interest in the show as well as rampant discussions on the chat lines and newsgroups. One of the most popular interactive events on the internet was a

Mass Media Such As Television, Newspapers, And Internet
Mass media such as television, newspapers, and internet are the center of the public 's communication and entertainment. Society relies heavily on mass
media for their news, education, entertainment, and their socialization. It can inspire, persuade, and change the behavior of the audience depending on
the objective. The public is often misinformed and uninformed by media outlets to control the information that reaches the public. As technology
continues to grow, access to mass media continues to grow as well. Society has 24/7 access to news at all time whether it be on television, computer,
cell phone and so on. The constant access also means the public has devices readily available to shine a light on things happening around them that ...

With the media's ability to control the news, they play a significant role in politics. Citizens rely on mass media to keep them informed on political
issues so that they can form an opinion about current events and vote accordingly in polls. Unfortunately, according to Graber and Dunaway (2015),
"Like caricatures, media stories often create skewed impressions because they cannot report most stories in detail or full context." The lack of truth
and details gives citizens the wrong idea of what is happening and a false impression of people represented in the stories. Therefore, the citizens remain
uneducated and uninformed in regards to political issues and politicians, so they are unable to make the decisions needed to better the economy and the
future. During the 2016 Presidential campaign between nominees, Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump, there was a tremendous amount of news stories
spreading around the country. These stories had no evidence or facts to support their claims. Both candidates were depicted in situations that were
untrue. Many false news sites published articles giving the public the impression that Hillary Clinton was heading to prison following an e–mail
investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Many fake news stories were shared about Donald Trump such as a story stating that Pope
Francis endorsed him. The stories continued

Television vs the Internet
'The internet is more fatal to the cohesion of the community than television was in its time.'
The widespread availability of the internet has produced a serge in communication in today's society. The introduction of television to Australia in the
1950's could be said to have had a proportionately similar effect. In today's world the internet enables people to research, communicate and entertain
across the globe at the touch of a computer key. However, the internet is sometimes seen, as a technology that contributes to the breakdown of the
structure of community. In this essay I will discuss whether, the internet, in introducing a technology that enables the transfer of a seemingly unlimited
quantity of uncensored information world–wide ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But the question remains, "Was the introduction of television as fatal as the introduction of the internet to the cohesion of the community?"
(Shaughnessy, Stadler, 2006 pg. xiii.)
It could be argued that most young people today were born into homes where the television was a frequent if not constant background to daily living.
For them, a choice of information and entertainment has always been available at the push of a button and the introduction of the internet could be
seen as merely a further development in a rapidly changing world.
The internet makes possible the immediate exchange of information across the whole spectrum of factual knowledge and of individual opinion ideally
between every inhabitant on the planet. (Goggin. 2003) But what guarantee do we have of the accuracy of the information when any person with or
without expertise can create a website or write a blog? Shaughnessy argues that "blogs... challenges the standard journalistic outlets of press, radio, and
TV." (pg. 431) On the other hand, while we may find some television programs distasteful, there are regulatory standards in place and times are set
when adult themes may be shown. Neither is there any clear distinction made on the internet between what information is factual and what is mere
opinion.
Furthermore, the negative impact of the internet is demonstrated through the segregation of interests within communities of society, which essentially
draws people towards singular or

The On Download Free Music
In 1998, the first websites to download free music appeared, thus making it possible for users to share mp3 files between one another online.
These free sites caused CD sales to plummet 72% from 2000 to 2013. Spotify, founded in Sweden in 2006, came onto the online streaming music
scene with the mission to let people listen to music they want, when they want and where they want. Spotify is different from the other sites like
Napster and Limewire by giving customers legal access to a library of over 30 million pieces of music. Daniel Ek and Martin Lorentzon, the men
behind Spotify, sought to find a way to give the public unlimited access to an exhaustive catalogue of songs, stored on servers and available online.
Therefore, Spotify encourages people to abandon pirating by giving the public the ability for Internet users to get unrestricted access to music online,
without breaking the law. Spotify offers two types of memberships: free and paid premium. The free users are able to listen on a phone, tablet, or
computer with advertisements for a few minutes every hour. While the premium user pays $10.00 per month to listen without advertisements,
unlimited skips, and the ability to listen offline. September 2011 Facebook and Spotify integrated with one another. However, Facebook did not offer
Spotify exclusive access to its users. Regardless, Spotify was still able to gain about four million users after two months into its partnership with
Facebook. Now, signing up for Spotify

PROBLEM
This report has been designed to understand where the video market is today, what consumer trends are, and how to stay ahead of competitors. This
report will research these three points:
Offsetting declining DVD market (1/3 of current Netflix revenue)
Staying ahead of key competitors, such as Amazon
How Netflix can continue expanding business opportunities
BACKGROUND
Netflix was established in 1997 and their monthly subscription concept was released in 1999. By 2009, Netflix offered a collection of 100,000 titles
on DVD and surpassed 10 million subscribers. In February 2007, they delivered their billionth DVD and began shifting to video streaming. DVD sales
steadily fell from 2006 to 2011, however the growth in video streaming, allowed company sales to continue to grow.
Netflix had 2,337 employees and annual sales of $4.13 billion dollars as of the end of 2013. In April 2014, Netflix approached 50 million global
subscribers with a growth in video streaming market share in the United States. Netflix operates in 41 countries around the world. Netflix has 50
million global subscribers, with 36 million of them being in the United States.

a traditional broadcaster. Netflix has a disruptive force that has decisively altered the way we watch television and film. There are no schedules or

Internet Television Vs Cable Television
Internet TV "Television viewers increasingly watch their favorite shows on their smartphones, tablets, and computers" (pg. 313). There are many
entertaining television services on the internet and, "services such as Netflix are supplying content to screens of all kinds by streaming it over the
Internet" (pg. 314). For many years, many people have sought joy from watching their favorite television shows to sports programs on Cable

Netflix is a low cost service that will provide people with the TV shows and movies that Cable TV. Many people agree with the fact that they can
watch Netflix and take a break from their normal lives. People like that Netflix is more accessible because it is cheap and they are many favorited
shows on the website, a thing that cable television does not have, and has not had for years. In conclusion, a reason why Internet Television is taking
over Cable Television is because the fact that Cable Television prices are rising and more people are going to Netflix and other programs because of this.
In addition, Internet Television is taking over Cable Television because Internet TV is more modern
–day and built for the younger generations. By this,
I mean that Netflix and Hulu are more built for teenagers, rather than being built for adults and older generations. Many more teenagers are exposed
to Internet Television rather than more adults and older generations being exposed to Cable Television for most of their childhood life. Moreover, it
is more accessible for younger generations to access programs such as Netflix because they are apart of the age of the Internet and most old people
were never introduced to this method of watching television. Most of the older generations were brought up in the age of the antenna TV, and believe
that basic tv is all that they need to thrive in life. They think that they do not need to have

They also have a more simplified catalogue of consumer favorite new titled

course of actions would be to increase and/or sustain the current procedure for the benefit of the company, its employees and the satisfaction of it

Strengths And Weaknesses Of Netflix
Strengths Brand name – Netflix has established a brand name that is widely recognized and many studies have shown that the company has a stronger
brand identity among its competitors. It serves more than 65 million users in over 40 countries, Netflix is the dominating subscription streaming video
service. They have the largest collection of videos and continues to build up its library with its own original content and higher quality movies. Netflix
has become the most favored subscription video streaming service in America, and is found in more than 36% of U.S. homes as compared to its
competitors such as Amazon Prime Instant Video at 13% and Hulu Plus at 6.5%. The name itself, is intertwined with the online movie streaming
industry. Large amount of content– Not only does Netflix have a variety of content from well–known companies such as Disney, it also has
international and original content as well. Netflix streams 4,335 movies, 1,197 shows, and 133 movies and shows of its own original content. Some
of Netflix's well know pieces include "House of Cards" and "Santa Clarita Diet." This mix of original and well–known content contributors creates a
loyal customer base.Easy user experience/platform – Netflix has devised a way to use specific algorithms to collect data in order to adapt itself to each
user uniquely. This cuts down on the time users need to invest when searching for specific content. If the user doesn't find the content they are
looking for in this manner, Netflix also separates its content into categories, making it easy for users to simply search for the types of movies or
shows they would like to view. A user can also search by title name in the search bar or search by genre. Netflix can even personalize each user
experience by allowing their customers to create multiple viewer profiles. Weaknesses Censorship by government regulations– Netflix, like any other
online streaming service, must abide by the laws, restrictions, and regulations the government has set out for the film and entertainment industry.

Communities that once seemed alien are becoming increasingly familiar given technological advances and global interconnectedness Through visual
mediums such as the television and the Internet, we are able to assess the livelihoods of those around the globe and absorb information with the rise of
24–hour news outlets. Throughout the years, media outlets have gone above and beyond relaying international political coverage–media

Misconceptions Teenagers From Television And Internet...
Top 3 misconceptions teens get from TV/internet advertisements
The average number of teens watch almost three hours of television per day, which reveals them to thousands of images of violence, sexuality, from
advertisements, according to the research done by scientists, by the time today's teens reach their old age, they would have watched between seven to
10 years worth of television during the trajectory of their lives. The content and the amount of television that teens watch substitutes other activities
and could have a negative influence.Brands fascinating to teens take advantage of their particular vulnerabilities, the desire to fit in, to be apprehended
as attractive. Teenagers have become the main target for advertisers. Teenagers are impulsive and invariably want the latest and greatest things.
Advertisers see teenagers as great gateways to persuade themselves into buying their product. Teenagers come across over 40,000 advertisements per
year whether on the Internet, TV or in their schools. Ads are constantly telling teenagers to buy this, look like that, or act a certain way. There are
negative sides to advertisements harnessed towards teenagers. Teens are extremely accustomed to their place in the peer ranking, and advertising acts as
a kind of "super peer" in leading them toward what's cool, what's satisfactory and what's acceptable. Many teens are highly resistant to messages around

Television And Internet News Programs
News or Nonsense Television and internet news programs have began to stray away from a strictly informative report of current happenings to vague,
non–factually based entertainment stories. This is a direct result of society's desire to worry about everyone's feelings. In the past, viewers
passionately desired accurate information and statistics on the nation's current events. As of now, a different generation of viewers and new's
providers bestow the supply and demand of news stories based on emotions, rather than fact. With extremist groups becoming increasingly popular the
demand for highly biased news is snowballing. New's corporations like FOX capitalize on this by providing news that is consistently biased to one
point of view. Having a one–sided production such as FOX creates a type of animosity between them and their competition. This seems rather
childish, making these top tier new companies look like a joke. In result, a viewer will struggle to find a new's broadcast that provides more than a
couple of relevant stories based on factual information. Instead, the bulk of content is displayed in a look at me, feel bad for me, or look at them
format. From this, the broadcasters work at the heart–strings of their viewers. They get the viewer to invest emotion into a story, creating a reaction
and desire to hear, see, and feel more. Given the response, broadcasters see interest in emotionally based stories skyrocket and interest in factually
based stories

conducts business in a particular industry or market (Griffin,2002). A corporate level strategy means that a company manages its operations
simultaneously across many industries and markets. Netflix operates across both a business and corporate level strategy. The main areas across which
Netflix operate on in their corporate level are business portfolio and partnerships.
For netflix's business portfolio they outline that their main area of focus are online DVD rentals via online streaming (Netflix ,2010). It is clear from

Businesses that have few powerful buyers are not often able to dictate the terms and conditions of a business. However in Netflix's scenario, there are
many powerful buyers which enforces the company's terms. The buyers are so powerful that the Netflix CEO had to respond to the world with a
written apology. The New Market entrants include Amazon Prime, HBO Go, Hulu Plus, and Vudu. These companies were attracted to the Internet
streaming entertainment as being a profitable industry. However, Netflix maintains its land by its originality i.e. being the first large scale operation
of its kind. Netflix also holds the most content making survival for the future companies very difficult. Supplier power is a measure of how easy it is
for a company to raise prices. As far as supplier power goes, Netflix has a good brand reputation, geographical coverage, and high quality product and
service with their customers than the competitors. In terms of substitute products, Netflix has a high quality product that was developed as a result of
high level technology compared to the competition. Strong substitute products that exist in the market will increase the likelihood that customers
would switch to alternatives if prices rise. The impact of substitutes will reduce the power of suppliers and the market attractiveness.
Among all else, Netflix continues to be a force to be reckoned with in the online streaming industry compared to its competitors. Netflix's

Netflix and Internet Television
Netflix's main goal is to be the first company to expand internet television. They believe that Internet TV is the future of the television industry and
will soon replace linear TV. The portability, flexibility and personal aspect of Internet TV is the future and Netflix's goal is to be the first to get
there. They believe that if they can dominate this industry then they will have achieved their goals. They do this by sticking to what they have
always done: they do not have advertisements, they have their low monthly fee, and their few original shows. Their strategy is to quickly expand
into all aspects that are possible, while remaining profitable globally. One big challenge that Netflix will have to tackle, is dealing with bootleg
websites. These websites provide more popular shows and movies for free. These websites also offer quicker access to these shows and movies than
Netflix. Netflix takes longer to add shows and movies to the website. Most subscribers are satisfied with Netflix's services when they become
members, but the one main complaint is that there are not a lot of popular options and they feel like there should be since they are paying for this
service. Another reason that is tricky, is because the legality of the content may be compromised. That is one of the biggest factors as to why Netflix
has not expanded their content. Running into legal issues makes them no different than their illegal counterparts. They will also have to address the
fact that

They have done so by creating mutually beneficial relationships with a number of entertainment video providers. Their second main strategy is focused
on product differentiation. Not only how customers obtain the content and use it, but also what customers choose what to watch. Netflix's leading
competitive advantage lies within their unique software. The software takes what a customer has watched or rated and based upon that information
builds a list of suggested titles similar to ones they have just watched. While other companies like Blockbuster has transitioned into the rent–by–mail
niche category that Netflix had started, no other company has customer–profiling software quite like Netflix. It is continuously updating their smart
selection technology to keep up with customer needs. Over the past few years the film rental market underwent a major shift. The in–store rental
market plummeted by nearly $2 million, while vending machine rentals increased by about ten times the amount and by–mail rentals nearly doubled.
However, Video On Demand (VOD) services obtained through cable, digital, and subscription also saw even larger increases. All of these changes
meant companies like Blockbuster and Hollywood Video had to either restructure and make a complete business model shift– or face bankruptcy.
Meanwhile, the increases for by–mail rentals and VOD subscription, both of which services

Swot Analysis Netflix
Netflix is a company known around the world. It started with humble beginnings, and popped on the scene and not only reinvented the way we watch
movies at home, but took over the industry. In this case I will analyze the Video–On–Demand or VOD industry using Porter's Five Forces Model and
conduct a SWOT analysis on Netflix. I will also discuss why Netflix has been so successful, what their competitive advantages are, some of my
personal recommendations, and finally any strategic advantages CEO Reed Hastings should pursue on the future. Using Porter's Five Forces
Model I am going to analyze the VOD industry, Porter's model is made up of economic powers of customers, economic power of suppliers, direct
competitors, potential competitors, and finally firms that offer substitutes. In the VOD industry I believe the customer have a high economic
power. The top three streaming services in the industry are, Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Video Services. If the customer deems the price too high
they can simply leave, and because customers aren't required to sign a contact they can simply stop services. Which will cause the number of
users to fall and profits to decrease as well. Next in Porter's model is economic power of suppliers. The industry as a whole is very large, Netflix had
76 million users in 2016, Amazon had 44 million in 2015, and Hulu had 9 million in 2015. The suppliers (Netflix, Amazon, and Hulu) don't have a
huge power, across the board all three services are

Internet Protocol Is The Process Of Transmitting And...
Internet Protocol television (IPTV) is the process of transmitting and broadcasting television programs through the Internet using Internet Protocol (IP).
A broadband connection is used as the medium of transmission for IPTV. Along consumers to tune in to their favorite programming when, where, and
how they want. Improving the user experience compared to a traditional television transmission such as radio frequency broadcast, satellite broadcast
and/or cable television.
When downloading a file from the Internet, the file doesn't travel in one big piece, as might be expected. Instead, it 's broken up into small pieces,
known as packets sent to specific IP address, a numeric address given to every computer on the Internet (194.66.82.11). Therefore every computer has
a unique identifying number known as an IP address much like houses and street address. The Internet can be used for many things: sending emails,

Netflix Code Of Ethics Essay
The company that I chose to write about is Netflix, Inc. They are an online streaming service giant and DVD rental provider. Started up in 1997 by
two engineers Reed Hastings and Marc Randolph. Netflix has grown to be known as one of the most prominent video entertainment providers
worldwide. Their library carries a large selection of television shows, movies, and original content as well. They are currently ranked 379 on the
Fortune 500 list.
Netflix started as a DVD rental service, and would later offer flat rate movie rental–by–mail subscriptions to customers in the United States. The
concept was to use an online subscription service to pick a DVD of your choosing with no late fees, returning the DVD at your leisure when you
wanted to exchange it for another DVD. It wasn't until 2007 that the company would begin to offer online streaming services. Starting first with its
online website Netflix would expand into home entertainment system Blu–ray players and gaming consoles. Now, the streaming service is at your

without pressure. Furthermore, this process allowed consumers to order movies through a centralized and regional warehouse mechanism created
efficiencies similar to what Amazon developed. Mail order catalog systems would be difficult for movies, but using the Internet let people both order

Likewise, customization and personalization allowed Netflix users to save lists of preferred movies. As they became available, those films were
delivered based on priority. Also, creating partnerships with other company's was a key strategic focus for Netflix. It was clear that paying upfront and
buying movies at market cost would tie up both cash and inventory. Alliances with movie studios would give them a share of profits and equity, and a

Television and the internet ads on use of marijuana Rhetorical Analysis
Television and the internet is a good channel of passing the messages about the adverse effects of the use of marijuana. The office of the National
Drug Control Policy is an American government action which depends on safeguards the health of the people of America. The "above the influence"
initiative is a program of the not–for–profit Partnership at Drugfree.org. Their overall goal is to help teens reject negative influences of drug and
alcohol. The initiative is a friendly site for the youths since it uses favorable language and identifies with the youth 's lifestyle while trying to change
it. Drug abuse affects everyone in the society from the young to the old. However, in recent years, the abuse of marijuana has majorly been linked to
teens. Is because of the peer–pressure that spreads at an alarming rate. In the current digital world, youths are looking for information over the internet,
as opposed to hard copy newspapers and magazines. The internet or the TV is mostly used by teens and adults in looking for new information.
Advertisers on the internet compete to catch the eye of the readers. I choose two advertisements that warn people not to smoke the marijuana. The two
advertisements are on the office of the National Drug Control Policy advertisement, and the other is an "above the influence." The two sites have
different audiences with the latter have more appeal for the youths.

The Pros And Cons Of The Internet, Television, And Social...

  • 1. The Pros And Cons Of The Internet, Television, And Social... We live in a world surrounded by hate, discrimination, bullying, suicide, and unrealistic expectations. I am not saying these things did not exist in previous years, but they have manifested into a monster that cannot be stopped. Everywhere you go you can probably count on one hand how many people you see not on their phones. The issues I stated are mainly related to the internet, television, and social media. There are more cons about the internet, TV, and social media than there are pros. Some cons are delayed child development, long–term mental disorders, cyberbullying, and suicide, while pros are easy to access to articles and news, communicating, the convenience of having the world at your fingertips. With privileges provided by internet, social media, and TV comes responsibility, and many people don't understand the consequences of one harsh comment, hours of watching TV, and reading false facts on the internet. Limiting screen time would drastically change the mental and physical effects on humans. The first major social media surge was in the early 2000's. MySpace set the foundation for the media–controlled world that we live in today. Facebook and Twitter began around the year 2005. Today there are over one billion people on Facebook and 330 million active users on Twitter. It is estimated that 81% of the world's population has social media; that is approximately two billion people more worried about their phones than about what is happening around them. Children ... • 2. Taking a Look at Netflix External environment analysis PESTELThere are not many political elements, the main things Netflix must worry about is the growing internet based business industry and the truth that one day it will be more heavily regulated by the government because of its size. Economic factors are that what Netflix offers is a luxury, and a need not necessarily a want. So people will only pay what they feel the value of Netflix's offering is, therefore Netflix must keep its price low to appeal to a greater range of consumers. Hence the price drop in 2011. Social factors include the portion of the population that finds movies an attractive hobby. If movie viewing becomes less popular Netflix can go under, as well as is streaming movies online becomes unpopular could also cause Netflix to collapse. Technological factors are perfect for Netflix. This is literally what Netflix has going for it, Netflix's advanced software and numerous apps for different personal devices are what Netflix does best and how it's name and product own the market. Environmental factors, the only ones I see Netflix having issues with is that computers are harmful to the environment in energy consumption, and Netflix has thousands of servers running 24/7 to be able to stream all of it's movies online. Lastly, is legal and that goes back to the FCC and SEC beginning it's tightening down on the regulations of internet based business as well as the copyright laws by the production companies. • 4. Netflix's Strengths And Weaknesses 1 Overview of Netflix Netflix is an American entertainment company specializing in streaming and video–on–demand services. The company has three main departments: domestic streaming, international streaming, and domestic DVD. Currently, Netflix streams to over 190 countries, with a combined worldwide viewership of 93 million. 1.1 History Netflix was founded in Scotts Valley, California by Marc Randolph and Reed Hastings on August 29, 1997 (Keating, 2012). The initial focus of the business was DVD rental by mail, which was a new technology at the time. The business was launched on April 14, 1998, with 30 employees and a catalogue of 925 DVDs. In 2007, Netflix began their international expansion with the introduction of streaming services in Canada. Termed as a "virtuous cycle" by Hastings, it gives Netflix an edge over smaller–scale competitors such as Hulu (Bylund, 2013). Netflix's massive size is valuable, rare, and costly to imitate. The company is also organized to leverage on its massive scale by fully utilizing all the benefits it confers, such as usership data and continued global expansion. It is thus a long term competitive advantage. 4.2 Strong BrandingNetflix has become synonymous with Internet video streaming; users often envisage watching Netflix instead of watching individual shows. In comparison, the closest competitors such as Hulu and Redbox are not nearly as well known, whilst Amazon Prime Instant Video is often overlooked due to it being packaged with the Amazon Prime membership (Snider, ... • 6. Netflix 's Successful Implementation Of Managerial... Over the past 7 years, Netflix streaming has expanded from thousands of members watching a show from time to time to millions of members watching over two billion hours every single month. Each time a member starts to watch a movie or TV episode, a "view" is created in the data systems, and a collection of events describing that view is gathered. Given that viewing is what members spend most of their time doing on Netflix, having a robust and scalable architecture to manage and process this data is critical to the success of the business. A huge part of Netflix's success can be attributed to their successful implementation of managerial information system. Netflix records data on content that consumers have watched in the past and bases suggested movies and TV shows based that particular consumer's history. This provides the consumer with a highly personalized streaming experience that tailors showcases all the material Netflix has to offer that would actually interest that one customer. Netflix's competitor Hulu didn't implement such data mining strategies right away and instead observed Netflix to see if their implementation of datamining would be successful. While they were awaiting results from Netflix, Hulu would just show their customers all of their available content from the menu screen. This caused a very convoluted and overwhelming menu screen to pick out a movie or show from. It's this accessibility that drove Netflix to surpass other streaming services such ... • 7. Netflix Strategic Plan Currently, there are only a few stores in existence; "it continues to operate in Alaska and Texas for those last of the hardcore video renters". Blockbuster will soon be extinct. Netflix is currently utilized in 190 countries and projecting expansion to over 200 countries within the next two years. CEO Reed Hastings and CFO David Wells wrote to their investors stating: "Progress has been so strong that we now believe we can complete our global expansion over the next two years, while staying profitable, which is earlier than we expected". Strategically, Netflix decided that now is time to expand globally. As a result, Netflix ended the year of 2014 with a total of 57.39 million subscribers increasing from 44.35 million in 2013. Even though Netflix is successful in revenue and expanded globally, it is vital for the organization to create a SWOT analysis "which stands for a company 's strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (Abraham, 2012). Netflix does have a competitive market such as Amazon.com and Hulu that are becoming more popular with their lower monthly pricing. They also have a more simplified catalogue of consumer favorite new titled movies and TV shows. In order for Netflix to stay competitive with a strong strategic plan, let's take a look at the SWOT to identify what the best course of actions would be to increase and/or sustain the current procedure for the benefit of the company, its employees and the satisfaction of it consumers. The Adoption And Viability Of A New Business Model AIMS AND OBJECTIVES The principle objective of this project is to discuss the adoption and viability of a new business model in which Internet streaming media companies have started to develop their own content. By researching the industry trends, we will understand why and how companies use 2–sided platforms to bring together and satisfy two different groups of users. Furthermore, with particular focus on Amazon and Netflix, we will expand the scope of our competitive analysis by exploring other strategies that can be used to gain a competitive foothold across the different media industries. INTRODUCTION Today, the online media streaming of Film, TV and Music is being rapidly driven by the increasing availability and prominence of high–speed internet as well as an ever–increasing repertoire of interconnected electronic devices. The result is a real–time entertainment industry that has experienced tremendous growth over the last decade and is thought to attributable for two thirds of data usage by 2018. Within 10 years the video streaming is expected to almost triple in size beyond $10 billion, driven largely by a more "connected" living room (Kerr, 2013; Davidson, 2015) These advancements are changing the landscape of how media is distributed as business models adapt to diversifying technology and changing consumer behaviour. As a result, more traditional methods of distribution, outlined in figure 1, have been affected. In particular, this impact is of high–profile concern in the music industry, where profits have been impaired as music becomes available on these services soon after its production (Milne, 2014). With regards to TV shows and Films, streaming services are often the last in the release window for content distribution and can only attract users that want to re–watch shows or those they have missed them during the previous windows. At the same time, a greater degree of autonomy provides consumers ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Netflix Is The World's Leading Internet Television Network According to Ernst & Young LLP (2015), Netflix "is the world's leading Internet television network with over 57 million streaming members in nearly 50 countries (p. 1)." Since its launch in 2007, Netflix has expanded streaming services internationally into Canada, Latin America, and Europe (Ernst & Young LLP, 2015). However, to continue its success, Netflix must evolve with its business strategy, evaluate the company's outlook, minimizerisk factors, and analyze the auditor's report that will help investors identify as relevant to an investing decision. Netflix has a business strategy that is composed of three business segments: domestic streaming, international streaming, and domestic DVD (Ernst & Young LLP, 2015). The two streaming segments (i.e., domestic and international) "derive revenue from monthly membership fees for services consisting solely of streaming content," while the domestic DVD segment derives revenues "solely of DVD–by mail," also from monthly membership fees (Ernst & Young LLP, 2015, p. 62). A subscriber can receive either streaming service or DVD service from one monthly membership fee, but not both (Ernst & Young LLP, 2015). Netflix has a neutral company outlook to its services because the market for entertainment services is very competitive and tends to change rapidly (Ernst & Young LLP, 2015). For instance, Netflix competes with video providers such as HBO, who now offers its own streaming services directly to the customer. As a result, it is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Business Risks In the annual 10–K report, Netflix mentions many business risks, but I chose to only state the following three: – If Netflix's efforts to attract and retain members are not successful, the business will be adversely affected; – Changes in how we market our service could adversely affect our marketing expenses and membership levels may be adversely affected; – Any significant disruption in or unauthorized access to its computer systems or those of third parties that Netflix utilize in its operations, including those relating to cybersecurity or arising from cyber–attacks, could result in a loss or degradation of service, unauthorized disclosure of data, including member and corporate information, or theft of intellectual property, including digital content assets, which could adversely impact the ... It is easy to passively interact with the rest of the world and scan effortlessly through millions of pages of information, some of which is useful, some of which simply takes up space; the problem that many researchers and interest groups face is making sense of the whole thing. What effects does the internet have on people? This question is no doubt an immense one. Society relies heavily on mass media for their news, education, entertainment, and their socialization. It can inspire, persuade, and change the behavior of the audience depending on the objective. The public is often misinformed and uninformed by media outlets to control the information that reaches the public. As technology continues to grow, access to mass media continues to grow as well. With the media's ability to control the news, they play a significant role in politics. Citizens rely on mass media to keep them informed on political issues so that they can form an opinion about current events and vote accordingly in polls. Unfortunately, according to Graber and Dunaway (2015), "Like caricatures, media stories often create skewed impressions because they cannot report most stories in detail or full context." The lack of truth and details gives citizens the wrong idea of what is happening and a false impression of people represented in the stories. Therefore, the citizens remain uneducated and uninformed in regards to political issues and politicians, so they are unable to make the decisions needed to better the economy and the future. During the 2016 Presidential campaign between nominees, Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump, there was a tremendous amount of news stories spreading around the country. These stories had no evidence or facts to support their claims. Both candidates were depicted in situations that were untrue. The widespread availability of the internet has produced a serge in communication in today's society. The introduction of television to Australia in the 1950's could be said to have had a proportionately similar effect. In today's world the internet enables people to research, communicate and entertain across the globe at the touch of a computer key. However, the internet is sometimes seen, as a technology that contributes to the breakdown of the structure of community. (Shaughnessy, Stadler, 2006 pg. xiii.) It could be argued that most young people today were born into homes where the television was a frequent if not constant background to daily living. For them, a choice of information and entertainment has always been available at the push of a button and the introduction of the internet could be seen as merely a further development in a rapidly changing world. The internet makes possible the immediate exchange of information across the whole spectrum of factual knowledge and of individual opinion ideally between every inhabitant on the planet. (Goggin. 2003) But what guarantee do we have of the accuracy of the information when any person with or without expertise can create a website or write a blog? Shaughnessy argues that "blogs... challenges the standard journalistic outlets of press, radio, and TV." (pg. 431) On the other hand, while we may find some television programs distasteful, there are regulatory standards in place and times are set when adult themes may be shown. These free sites caused CD sales to plummet 72% from 2000 to 2013. Spotify, founded in Sweden in 2006, came onto the online streaming music scene with the mission to let people listen to music they want, when they want and where they want. Spotify is different from the other sites like Napster and Limewire by giving customers legal access to a library of over 30 million pieces of music. Daniel Ek and Martin Lorentzon, the men behind Spotify, sought to find a way to give the public unlimited access to an exhaustive catalogue of songs, stored on servers and available online. Therefore, Spotify encourages people to abandon pirating by giving the public the ability for Internet users to get unrestricted access to music online, without breaking the law. Spotify offers two types of memberships: free and paid premium. The free users are able to listen on a phone, tablet, or computer with advertisements for a few minutes every hour. While the premium user pays $10.00 per month to listen without advertisements, unlimited skips, and the ability to listen offline. September 2011 Facebook and Spotify integrated with one another.
