Sexually Transmitted Infections ( Stis )
Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are one of the most concerning health problems in the United States. It is a serious threat to the health of the
population which could lead to severe complications if left untreated. According to the CDC, approximately 20 million new cases of sexually
transmitted disease are reported throughout the nation. "Though constituting 25% of the sexually active population, youth account for nearly half of
new STI cases which makes them the at–risk population" ("2014 Sexually Transmitted Disease Surveillance", 2015). Research suggests this increase in
cases among adolescents and young adults was attributed to the "combination of behavioral, biological and cultural factors" ("Sexual Health of
Adolescents and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
S., & Mcfarlane, M., 2000). Therefore, actions must be taken to prevent this particular group from contracting and spreading the disease.
In the state of Missouri, STIs are also one of the most critical health problem. According to Missouri Health Assessment (2013), the state's
Gonorrhea (130.3 per 100,000 persons) and Chlamydia (465.6 per 100,000 persons) rates are significantly higher than the U.S (104.2 and 457.6 per
100,000 persons, respectively) rates. Especially in the metro regions of Kansas City and St. Louis, the prevalence rates of Gonorrhea (191.8 and 188
per 100,000 persons, respectively) and Chlamydia (606.1 and 558.8 per 100,000 persons) is significant higher than the state rates (Missouri
Department of Health and Senior Services, 2013). In Missouri – 2015 State Health Profile, reported rates of chlamydia among women were higher than
those among men. The health profile also found that among women by age groups 20–24 had the highest number in cases for both Chlamydia and
Gonorrhea. The statistics indicate that college students, especially female contributed greatly to the large number of STIs' cases in Missouri (Missouri
– 2015 State Health Profile, 2015).
The priority population for sexual health is the youth because they are at greater risks for contracting STIs than other age groups. Therefore, the
Sexual Health Advocacy Group will focus on giving college students the tools to choose not to engage in risky sexual behaviors and information on

Chlamydi Sexually Transmitted Infection
Chlamydia is the most common type of Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI) amongst young people. It is also known as 'the silent STI' because
numerous people don't even know that they're even infected with this infection as symptoms don't normally appear until one to three weeks. This
infection can both males and females. A person could easily be infected with Chlamydia by having sex such as anal, vaginal or oral with someone
who is already infected, and that's where it all starts. Chlamydia can occur to every individual and each individual have an equal chance in getting
infected, however there are consequences of contracting Chlamydia for individuals who lives in urban areas compared to rural areas. Individuals
who contracts Chlamydia in urban areas are able to have professional doctors that are able to treat the infection. If there wasn't enough professional
doctors available, Chlamydia can eventually spread to certain parts of the body. It infects males in the urethra (tube of the penis) and may spread to
the epididymis, whilst it infects females in the neck of the uterus (cervix) and spread to the uterus and fallopian tubes, causing pelvic inflammatory
disease and etc. As a result of the number of professional doctors in urban areas, doctors are able to cure and treat Chlamydia... Show more content on

Health Promotion Assignment : Sexually Transmitted Infections
HEALTH PROMOTION ASSIGNMENT SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED INFECTIONS Background "I dream of the day when every new born child
is welcome, when men and women are equal and when sexuality is an expression of intimacy, joy and tenderness" Elise Ottesen–Jensen, the Founder,
Swedish Association for Sexual Education (1993). Introduction In Australia even though safe and effective treatments are available for many sexually
transmitted infections (STI), there has been a steady increase in cases of gonorrhoea, chlamydia and syphilis in the last five years. In addition, there are
gaps in the interpretation of notification data. Social stigma, discrimination against those affected by sexually transmitted infections and human rights
abuse limit access to the available prevention and treatment strategies, and identifying the burden of the consequence from the STI on fertility.
Therefore, working on the existing gaps in knowledge there are regarding the mentoring and understanding priority populations and how best to
communicate with them and support behaviour changes in them are essential key for any health promotion activity. According to the World Health
Organization, sexually transmitted infections may be defined as infections that are spread primarily through person–to–person sexual contact. There
are more than 30 different sexually transmissible bacteria, viruses and parasites. The most common conditions they cause are gonorrhoea, chlamydial
infection, syphilis, trichomoniasis,

INTRODUCTION The University of North Carolina Central is located in Durham, North Carolina. The US National Library of Medicine National
Institution of Heath states that in 2009 it was reported that 65 Percent of HIV infected people receiving care had undetectable viral loads. There were
many reasons that prevented people from getting tested such stigma, fear, and denial of risk, included costs, transportation, and low medical literacy
(Bartlett, Kolman, & Proeschold, 2009). It is important that students become aware of ones surroundings and learn how to protect themselves. One
needs to get over their fear to prevent damage that cannot be reversed. College provides an abundance of freedom and many different paths to travel

Exposure to drugs and alcohol directly increases the amount of risky sexual activity students engage in, and the college environment provides an
opportunity to have sexual encounters with multiple partners, even in a casual context, often without condom use or other forms of contraception.
These students are at heightened risk for sexually transmitted diseases, HIV, and unwanted pregnancies. Research in this area has relied on the theory of
planned behavior (TPB) to identify beliefs and attitudes that might predict sexual risk taking. However, the TPB model does not take into consideration
other factors that might influence sexual behaviors such as past sexual history, moral beliefs, self–esteem, family expectation, and peer influence.
College is a time for experimentation and discovering the world around you. More importantly, it is when one discovers him or herself. Being away
from home is a new found freedom that most freshmen have not experienced before. On college campuses and more specifically historically black
institutions students are becoming a victim of their own freedoms. Sexually transmitted infections are on the rise and education and awareness is key
in the fight against it. Without getting into religion or personal beliefs saying someone has too much sex or other risky behaviors is hard to do, but
limiting these behaviors as well as taking preventative

Sexually transmitted infections (STI) and unwanted pregnancies has been a health concern among young adults who engage in risky sexual behaviors
for some time. These behaviors can include having multiple sex partners and not using contraception before, during, or after sexual intercourse.
Although, the rate of teenage pregnancies have decreased is it still a significant number of young girls who are getting pregnant before they are
married, or even out of high school. According to the CDC, Young people ages 15–24 contract almost half the nation's 19 million new STIs every year.
(2008) During this age, they start discovering their our bodies, find interest in other people around them, and become curious about participating in
sexual activities without fully understanding the risk or gaining enough knowledge to keep themselves protected. Although there are more than just
young people who are engaging in sexual interactions, they are the ones who lack a lot of the maturity and self–control needed make better decisions.
They may know the risk they are taking when they choose not to use condoms but many still don't belief they are at risk for diseases and unwanted
pregnancies so they choose not to use any forms of contraception. When they decide to engage in risky sexual behaviors they don't only put
themselves at risk for diseases, but they also put others at risk. The use of condoms is important because it protects from a number of diseases and

College Campuses and Sexually Transmitted Infections Essay
College campuses have seen a rise, in the epidemic of Sexually transmitted diseases. Sexually transmitted diseases have quickly become a household
name amongst Americans. The dangers and health issues related to acquiring a STD has been the reason why more attention has been brought to the
STD epidemic. The reason for this attention is to hopefully, slow down the rate of STD'S amongst students. There is a very astonishing fact stated by
the Agape Pregnancy Resource Center, "Nearly 80% percent of people that are infected with STD's do not know it. ("Agape Pregnancy Resource
Center") The use of condoms, knowing your status, and the practice of abstinence are very effective ways of avoiding contracting STD's. If we do not

Some may ask but condoms are latex and I'm allergic to latex, what should I do? There is to be no worries, condoms are also made with other
material for people who are allergic to latex, therefore there is no excuse for not protecting yourself. The Center for Disease Control and
Prevention states "Laboratory studies have demonstrated that latex condoms provide an essentially impermeable barrier to particles the size of
STD pathogens. ("Centers for Disease Control and Prevention") Thus aiding in the reason why condoms are so important, to maintain healthy
sex life's. Next, a very useful way to stay STD free is to know your status. Most students today have no clue they are infected and unknowingly pass
it on to partners or spouses. The government has made available health clinics where check up's to know your status on STD's are free. Clinics are
also places where treatment can be given, if a certain STD is found and is treatable. Many students are embarrassed or scared to know their status
and would rather just live their lives, not knowing their status. This mindset among citizens is very selfish, which can lead to the danger of others.
In the sense of a woman knowing her status, she will be able to determine if birth is still an option if a certain STD has affected her fertility.
Offspring's are also kept safe, so parents can make wise decisions on whether diseases would be passed on off

HPV: The Most Common Sexually Transmitted Infection Essay
Introduction The most common sexually transmitted infection (STI) is human papillomavirus (HPV) (CDC, 2013). Over half of sexually activity
people will become infected with HPV at some point in their lifetime (National Cancer Institute, 2012). HPV can fall into two categories: low–risk
HPV and high–risk HPV (National Cancer Institute, 2012). Low–risk HPV, also known as HPV types 6 and 11, cause about 90% of genital warts
(National Cancer Institute, 2012). High–risk HPV, also known as HPV types 16 and 18, causes about 70% of cervical cancer (National Cancer
Institute, 2012). There are two HPV vaccines available for females (Cervarix and Gardasil) that protect against cervical cancer (CDC, 2013). The CDC
Advisory Committee on Immunization... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since HPV is spread through sexual activity, many people believe requiring the vaccine unethical (Shi & Johnson, 2014). Recent studies have shown
that groups who are at the highest risk for cervical cancer are the ones who have the lowest uptake of the HPV vaccine (Shi & Johnson, 2014). Required
vaccines for school entry have been successful at making sure children are vaccinated before they enter school, regardless of their race, socioeconomic
status, ethnicity, and geographic location (Shi & Johnson, 2014).
What considerations might count against mandatory HPV vaccination for all girls aged 11–12? There are many ethical and legal issues that count
against a mandatory HPV vaccination for all girls aged 11–12 years old. First, the long–term safety and effectiveness of the vaccination is unknown
(Javitt et al., 2008). Clinical trials conducted on the HPV vaccine concluded no short–term adverse effects, but as more girls and young women begin to
get the vaccine some adverse effects may appear (Javitt et al., 2008). The extent immunity of the HPV vaccine is also unclear. Studies have shown the
vaccine to be present in 3–4 year follow–ups, but the long–term effectiveness has not been studied (Javitt et al., 2008). Furthermore, HPV has a long
incubation period, which would only affect a small amount of individuals many years after they finish school (Stewart, 2008). Next, since HPV is only
contracted through sexual activity, exposure is not associated with

Case Study On Blood Transfusion
INTRODUCTION
Blood is one of the integral components of body constituents, which flows throughout body and becomes a reason for survival. Blood transfusion is a
life saving intervention for patients in need of transfusion. Blood borne infections are common serious hurdles of blood transfusion. Considering the
serious consequences of these infections and to hold back the transmission to minimum, it is extremely important to remain vigilant about the possible
spread of these diseases in the course of blood transfusion1. Transfusion safety begins with healthy donors. Blood transfusion is safer than ever before
through continuous improvements in donor recruitment, screening, testing of donated blood with increasingly sensitive assays, and appropriate
clinical use of blood. Serologic testing for transfusion transmitted infections had historically been the foundation of blood screening, while newer
strategies like nucleic acid testing (NAT) have helped further shorten the "window period". Moreover, threat of infectious agents entering the blood
supply is not constant and may evolve as new pathogens emerge or when old ones change their epidemiological pattern. In 2002, the Government of
India adopted the National Blood Policy "An action plan for blood ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

countries to obtain all blood supplies from voluntary unpaid donors by 20203.

Sexual Transmitted Infection Summary
STI or Sexual Transmitted Infection is one of the most common issues that sexually active people obtain from unprotected sex. This can lead to a
serious problem when left untreated. In Tad and Kara's case, I would think that Tad is not telling the truth and he is hiding something from Kara. If
Tad is not hiding something even though he claimed that he has never taken sexual risks, he should not be upset. Kara is just protecting herself from
possible sexual related illness. If he does not want to be tested then Kara has the right to refuse to his request or desire. On the other hand, Kara should
understand that if Tad loves him and value their relationship, he would consider her health. It is not worth it to stay in a relationship that one cannot

Human papillomavirus (HPV) is a common sexually transmitted infection. HPV family of viruses comprises many oncogenic and non–oncogenic
types that cause anal, penile, and oropharyngeal cancers and anogenital warts in men respectively. Men who have sex with men (MSM) are at
particularly high risk for HPV infection and HPV–related disease (Markowitz et al., 2014). In one study, oncogenic HPV types 16 and/or 18 were
detected in 37% of MSM between ages 16 and 30 years (Glick et al., 2014). Anal cancer rates are more than 17 times higher among MSM compared
to their heterosexual counterpart (Daling et al., 2004, Joseph et al., 2008; Machalek et al., 2012). Anal cancer rates are even higher among
HIV–positive MSM (Silverberg et al., 2012). Moreover, recent data revealed a rapid increase in HPV associated oropharyngeal cancers rates
among men in the United States (Charturvedi et al., 2011). Aside from cancer, HPV associated anogenital warts negatively affect quality of life
and are expensive to treat (Woodhall et al., 2011). Close to 7% of gay and bisexual men report history of genital warts. (Dinh et al., 2008) While
three FDA approved vaccines are available in the US, only Gardasil and Gardasil 9 are approved for use in males. HPV vaccines are highly effective
in preventing infection with the types of HPV they target when given before initial exposure to the virus, mainly before individuals begin to engage in
sexual activity. To date, protection against the targeted HPV types has

The Spread Of A Sexually Transmitted Infections
In the world today almost everyone knows what a sexually transmitted infection is. People know that these are infections caused by risky behavior and
can stay with someone for the rest of their life. Although people know what a sexually transmitted infection is they may not know the proper way to
prevent such infections or they may be unware of what their community offers to help prevent unwanted pregnancy and infections. I ventured to my
local grocery store, Standale Meijer, to see what variety of options were available for men and women to prevent unwanted sexually transmitted
infections. I was greeted by a plethora of options. Most of the products were geared towards men, such as condoms. There were about fifteen different
types of condoms across seven different brands. Trojan was a more prominent brand that was offered at this location. There were about ten different
Trojan condom types. Among them were ultra ribbed, fire and ice, bareskin, ultra thin and her pleasure ecstasy.Birth control options offered at this
location was not a huge selection. I found four different types, all of which were for women. The options provided are Plan B, Today Sponge,
Options Conceptrol, and Vaginal Contraceptive Film. All are over the counter but you need to go to a pharmacist to acquire Plan B. Fortunately, I
was the only one on the isle so I did not feel like anyone was watching me or feel awkward for staring at all these different condoms and contraceptive
items. The Pregnancy

The Problem
Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are caused by bacteria, viruses, and parasites and are spread by sexual contact through vaginal, anal, and oral
sex. This health issue is to discuss the growing rate of chlamydia infections occurring at an increased rate among sexually active women under the age
of 25 years. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC, 2015) has estimated 2.86 million infections are occurring annually in the United
States. The highest risk group for chlamydia infections are sexually active females aged 14 to 24 years (CDC, 2015). Chlamydia is one of the most
common, curable STIs affecting women's reproductive health in the United States. If left untreated, a chlamydia infection can cause ... Show more

Women who seek an out–of–network provider will be subject to a copayment or a deductible under their health insurance policy. The copayment and
deductibles are only waived if a woman visits an in–network provider. This requirement can affect women who seek alternative choices, such as, STI
clinics for screening exams. In addition, in rural areas women may have limited access to the number of in–network providers that can affect their
ability in being screened.
Apart from accessing a health care provider, the additional cost for the office visit fee is a concern. Cost is a major barrier for women in affording
screening services. Under the covered preventive services policy, a healthcare provider can legally impose a cost–sharing requirement or an office visit
fee. The current policy does not address the maximum limit a woman can pay for an office visit fee.
The need for change for this policy proposal are as follows:
1.To allow women to visit in–network or out–of–network providers equally without being charge a coinsurance, copayment, or a deductible for
chlamydia screening exams.
2.The office visit fee will be no higher than $40.00 for chlamydia screening exams.
Existing Problem The existing health problem is the increased rate of chlamydia infections affecting sexually active women under the age of 25. The
CDC (2015) has estimated one in 20 sexually active young women aged 14 to 24 years has a chlamydia infection. Women who are

Effects Of Sexually Transmitted Infections Were The Last...
Live for the nights you can't remember with the people you can't forget, that's the motto and the mindset. As a teenager, I was fueled by risks.
Anything that I could possibly get in trouble for intrigued me. Unfortunately, I did not think about the consequences, just the thrills. Sexually
transmitted infections were the last thing I was thinking about. Those could not affect me. When I first had sex I was 16 years old and I was "in love."
I trusted that 18 year old senior. He told me he loved me and I was his "first." I was naГЇve and he was manipulative. I wasn't his first or even his last
during our relationship. When I found out, we broke up. I was heartbroken. I moved on and went on to college. During my college years I met the
most incredible man ever. We went on dates, talked, and could not get enough of each other. After we started dating, we took things slow. A little
while into our relationship, we decided that we both wanted to take it to the next level. We decided to be responsible adults because neither of us
were virgins and we wanted to make sure we were safe. On our own time, we each got tested. I was really busy with school so Logan went first. He
got his results back and encouraged me to find the time to go. Later that day, I made my appointment. I was scheduled for a Thursday afternoon
during my lunch break. When I went in for my appointment, I had no clue what I was in for. The doctor did all the tests and told me she would call
me back with the results.

Public Health Problem
Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) has been a persisting public health problem throughout the world. While some STIs, like gonorrhea, are
curable, other STIs like human papillomavirus (HPV), have no cure and can lead to deadly consequences. Unfortunately, HPV is considered to be the
most common type of sexually transmitted infection. Like all STIs, HPV spread through sexual contact with an infected person, whether it be vaginal,
anal, or oral sex. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there are about 79 million Americans infected with HPV at a time and

Condoms: Preventing Unwanted Pregnancies and Sexually Transmitted Infections Two women: each with two very different stories. One woman is
single and enjoys her independence. She is not promiscuous but she enjoys the company of men from time to time. She doesn't want to risk her
own health, and she doesn't want to risk the chance of becoming pregnant. She knows that many options exist but isn't sure which is right for her.
Another young woman enjoys her life as a mother of two. She is married and loves her husband but neither of them are ready for a third child. She
too is looking for an effective option to keep her and her family protected. For both of these women condoms can help them in their life. Condoms are
effective in preventing unwanted pregnancies and the stop the spread of sexually transmitted infections. Condoms are not only easy to obtain but they
are easy, quick, and effective to use. While, condoms are not 100% effective in preventing unwanted however, they are a viable option for anyone
who is sexually active in protecting themselves. Condoms are typically made out of latex and are comparable to a glove for the male penis. After being

Sexually Transmitted Infections in young adults

Background Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) in young adults have been a concern of mine since I was in high school. I grew up in
California and it seemed that the spread of STIs was always talked about. I lived about one and a half hours from San Francisco and the
transmission of HIV always seemed that it was a problem in that area. I grew up afraid that if I had sex I would contract a STI the first time I had
sex. This was mostly due to concern the school made of STIs. During my high school years we had several classes on sex education. These classes
seemed to put more effort on abstinence than anything else. They ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The U.S. has spent over one billion dollars on abstinence only programs that do not work, it is time that the U.S. governments starts investing in to
a program that will work. I believe that the best way to help prevent the passing of STIs is through proper education. Our young adults deserve to
know the proper way to protect themselves and the risk of having unprotected sex. Without proper education on prevention methods our STI rates
will not drop. These education methods need to be delivered in way that is appropriate as well, they must be able to get the class involved on the
topic and make sure that they understand it. I know that when I was in school anytime we had a sex education class it was delivered in a way
where questions were not easily asked. It was more of a situation where you are told the information and do not need to worry about it afterwards
which is completely wrong. The information that people learn on sex in schools will be with them for the rest of their life. It needs to be good
information that will assist them in make appropriate decisions on sex. Most people will eventually have sexual intercourse at some point in their life
that is why it is so important that the information they receive teaches them how to protect themselves against not only STIs but, unwanted sexual
advances. There is also the family that

Many people in these groups have compounding barriers to treatment including cost, language obstacles, mistrust of medical intervention, stigma, and
lack of access to information. (Krieger N, Waterman PD, Chen JT, et al., 2003)
Primary community and prevention resources include the Clark County Health Department Sexual Health Clinic and private physicians. The Sexual
Health Clinic is open to all; there is a $40 charge for STI screenings. This fee will be placed on account if the patient does not have the funds at the
time of the visit. The clinic does not have a billing system, those with outstanding accounts will never receive a bill. The clinic will give out
prescriptions as needed for treatment. The cost of that medication will be the responsibility of the patient. The patient that has health care insurance can

Different Types Of Diseases Caused By Staphylococcus Aureus
Abigail Ivic
Gateway Technical College
Staphylococcus Aureus is a bacteria formed in a group. It is more commonly referred to as staph infections, ( pronounced staff ). Staph infections can
be mild to severe in nature, and if left untreated can be fatal. They can be treated with different medications depending on the type of infection. Topical,
oral, or intravenous medications can be used. There are many different types of staph infections to include, MRSA (methacillin resistant staphylococcus
aureus), pneumonia and cellulitis. This paper will target how staph infections effect adult subjects.

Parvovirus B19 Research Paper
Parvovirus B19 is a virus that commonly infects humans. The mode of transmission is through droplet infection. The infection also can be spread
through contact, as well as transmitted from a woman to her fetus. The most common illness caused by B19 is the fifth disease, which is a mild,
rash illness occurred mostly in children. About 20 percent of children with this disease has no symptoms. But, in others, early in the infection there
may be cold like symptoms. Two to five days later the child typically develops a slapped cheek rash on the face and a lacy red rash on the trunk and
limbs. The child may not feel very sick even though the rash is itchy. The rash disappears after seven to ten days, but it can come and go for several
weeks, especially

CASE STUDY #2:
Preventing HIV/AIDS and Sexually Transmitted Infections in Thailand
Miami Dade College
Abstract
Our second team project answers five questions about Case Study #2, Preventing HIV/AIDS and Sexually Transmitted Infections in Thailand and
Chapter 10, Introduction to Global Health. This project will talk about the characteristics of the high–risk population that permitted this intervention to
work and the implications of this for replication in other settings. It will explain why Thailand is a model for programs in other countries. Since
cost–effectiveness assessment was never done for this program, it will evaluate the assessments that should have taken into account in terms of costs
measured. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The budget spent on this program represented only 1.9% and about 200,000 new infections were averted in 7 years, and the rate of STI also fell
dramatically.
Though the government did not condone prostitution, they were aware that they could not control it the disease was spreading fast with drug users,
sex workers, those with STIs and blood donors was so immense in addition to the economic impact it made that they made a realistic approach to
problem solve and contain it.
This is an example of being proactive to a situation where cooperation among the government, police and its people through the media and programs
implemented were able to reduce such a devastating disease that along claiming human life, is also expensive to treat in the long run causing a
economic impact.
3. A cost–effective assessment was never done for this program. What should such an assessment have taken into account in terms of costs measured?
HIV and AIDS have had a great impacted throughout varies countries. As an illness with no none cure, it is essential to promote prevention among
those at risk. Thailand's "No Condom, NO sex: The 100% Condom program" was successful at greatly reducing the cases of new HIV infection cases
(Levine, 2007, p.10). Thailand's program has the advantage to serve as a building block to many other countries experiencing high levels of HIV/AIDS

Sexually Transmitted Infection Paper
A STI (sexually transmitted infection) refers to more than 25 infectious organisms passed from person to person primarily through sexual contact. The
term form STI's has changed throughout history, from venereal diseases to sexually transmitted diseases to sexually transmitted infections. STI is
supposedly a less judgmental than previous terms. Sexually transmitted infections do not have an agenda of a certain race, ethnicity, or gender to
affect. Some STI's can be cured and some require a lifetime of treatment. I do not think anyone is invincible to STI's. I do not think there is such a
thing as one hundred percent safe sex. Therefore, the possibility of contracting an STI is always present. I believe many people act as if they are
immune to sexually transmitted infections because there is not much in mass media reporting on... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The example given, it feels better without a condom, is a sad excuse to have unprotected sex. This excuse can be used by a man or woman and
pressure their partner into participating in a high risk activity, i.e. unprotected sex. Men and women should be educated on the possible
consequences of having unprotected sex. In the moment, I realize it is hard to weigh the rewards versus risks of unsafe sex, but if the risks are
taught early on, maybe the decision to have safe sex would not take any thought. We live in a society where instant gratification is available in
almost everything we do, so why would that not apply to one's sex life. The use of a condom or protection seems so small in the scheme of things
to some people, surely the rewards would outweigh the risks. This is where sex education should play a role. As a society the emphasis on sex
education is small. In the sex education one does receive, a visual of how many risks accompany having unsafe sex and the possible infections one
could contract could persuade one not to take part in those

Gonorrhe Sexually Transmitted Infection
Gonorrhea is a sexually transmitted infection that can infect both men and women equally. The infection is found most commonly within the youth
between ages fifteen and twenty–four years old. It can cause infections to the throat, male and female genitalia, and the rectum. Gonorrhea can be
spread through sexual contact. Oral, anal, and vaginal sex are all ways to be infected if one was to have unprotected sex with another person.
A woman who is pregnant and becomes infected with gonorrhea can possibly infect her child if not treated promptly. The infection can be transferred
to the offspring through childbirth. One can avoid contracting gonorrhea or any other sexually transmitted infection by not having sex and remaining
abstinent. Other ways to avoid contracting the infection are by remaining in a monogamous relationship with a partner who has also been tested and is
sure not to have the infection. One other way is to use a latex condom properly each time one engages in sexual intercourse. ... Show more content on

What Happens When People Wash Their Hands Essay
About ninety–five percent of individuals wash their hands improperly. This means that for every one hundred people, only five people actually
effectively sanitize their hands. This includes while cooking, using the restroom and exercising. How disgusting is that? To think about shaking hands
with individuals who do not wash their hands correctly or at all is quite disturbing. Every day, individuals are becoming ill and/or dying due to
infections and disease. Infections are constantly being spread and it is impossible to eliminate them one hundred percent. However, there are a variety
of simple ways people can prevent them from further spreading. It is vital to educate young people about what infection is, how it is transmitted, and...

Viral infections can also be systemic, which means that it affects multiple parts of one's body (Nordqvist).
Another major type of infection that is the most common is a bacterial infection. Bacteria are single–celled microorganisms that do not contain a
nucleus or any organelles surrounded by a membrane. Bacteria can practically live in almost any kind of environment. It lives all throughout the
inside of people 's bodies and most of the time, it will not cause harm to one's health. There are three different shapes of bacteria: spherical,
rod–shaped, and spiral (Nordqvist). Not only are there viral and bacterial infections, but there are several other types as well.
Many infections are contracted in specific locations. For instance, people who have a nosocomial infection mainly contract an infection that is present
in a hospital or other health care facility. The term nosocomial infection is associated with hospital–acquired infections (HAI) or health–care associated
infections. In order for someone to have a nosocomial infection, the infection has to be present before he or she receives medical care. For it to be
considered a HAI, the infection has to happen up to forty–eight hours after someone is admitted, up to three days after they are discharged, up to thirty
days after they go through an operation, or when they come into a healthcare facility

Genital Herpes : Sexually Transmitted Infections
Genital Herpes
Genital herpes is ne of the most a sexually transmitted infection that can cause lesions or sores around the genital area. Sexually transmitted diseases
(STDs), also called sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are among the most common infectious diseases in the United States today. (STDs), was also
known as Venereal Diseases (VD) named after "Venus, the Roman goodness of love" (Sutton, p. 15). (STDs) are infections that can be spread from one
person to another through sexual contact. It is essential to note that sexual contact involves more than vaginal or anal intercourse. Sexual contact also
includes kissing, oral–genital, or oral–anal contact. In the past, people recognized only two major STDs, syphilis and gonorrhea, but today there are
many known diseases that can be transmitted sexually. Among all, genital herpes pose serious threats to public health in the United States. It affects
young people, and increased vulnerability to other diseases, and even threatening their lives (Sutton, p. 15). The purpose of this paper is to explore
about genital herpes and find out if there are some control measures to reduce the risk of STDs, and related complications. Health issue

Sexually Transmitted Infections
In further understanding what sexually transmitted infections are one must know exactly what the different types of sexually transmitted infections. In
this case, the World Health Organization and Wikipedia.com clearly define each type of infection: Chlamydia is a sexually transmitted infection caused
by the bacterium Chlamydia trachomatis. In women, symptoms may include abnormal vaginal discharge, burning during urination, and bleeding in
between periods, although most women do not experience any symptoms. Symptoms in men include pain when urinating, and abnormal discharge
from their penis. If left untreated in both men and women, Chlamydia can infect the urinary tract and potentially lead to pelvic inflammatory disease
(PID). PID can cause serious problems during pregnancy and even has the potential to cause infertility. It can cause a woman to have a potentially
deadly ectopic pregnancy, in which the child is born outside of the uterus. However, Chlamydia can be cured with antibiotics. The two most common
forms of herpes are caused by infection with herpes simplex virus (HSV). HSV–1 is acquired orally and causes cold sores. HSV–2 is acquired during
sexual contact and affects the genitals. Some people are asymptomatic or have very mild symptoms. Those that do experience symptoms usually notice
them 2 to 20 days after exposure which last 2 to 4 weeks. Symptoms can include small fluid–filled blisters, headaches, backaches, itching or tingling

Pathogens Essay
Pathogens are everywhere. They are in people, animals, and the environment. Pathogens come in a wide variety. The types are fungal, bacterial, viral,
and other parasites. All pathogens can be dangerous, but two of them are more dangerous. These two types that more dangerous are fungal and
bacterial. While both fungal and bacterial pathogens cause illness, they differ in the way they are transmitted, the way they are treated, and the diseases
they cause. First, the way fungal and bacterial pathogens are transmitted is different. Most fungal pathogens are not transmitted person to person but
instead by inhaling fungal spores. On the other hand bacterial pathogens are transmitted in many ways like through touch and air.... Show more content

not used properly (Antifungal medication, n.d.). Finally, the diseases that fungal and bacterial pathogens cause are completely different. Fungal
diseases are rarer and more likely to be fatal. One of the most fatal fungal pathogens is Candida. Candidiasis infections have many types the most
common non–fatal type is oral also known as thrush. Invasive Candidiasis infections occur if Candida yeast gets in your bloodstream and you have a
weakened immune system and a yeast infection goes untreated. Candidiasis infections have a forty to fifty percent mortality rate for systemic infections

To prevent and control an infection, we "as healthcare providers; nursing homes staff" have to break the cycle of infection by putting proper practices
in place. A part of the cycle is the reservoir where the infectious agent lives. Common reservoirs where infectious agents exist can be non–living objects
like a toilet seat, or a door knob, or an alive reservoir, like an animal or the human body. Another part of the infection cycle is how the agent was

medical equipment? Nursing homes must require staff to wash their hands after each direct resident contact for which hand washing is designated

expensive, but to continuously take their child to get the necessary shot. If they get behind on the series of shots they'd have to start over because the
shots will no longer be effective. Another con of the vaccine is that because it is so new, there may be side effects that may take longer to surface.
For example, Thalidomide, which was given to pregnant patients, actually caused more problems than it claimed to fix. Many of the children were
born with deformed limbs and thousands dies. These issues didn 't surface until after mother 's begin taking the drug and seeing a pattern. Since the

Sexually Transmitted Infections And Young Adults
Sexually Transmitted Infection Prevention in Adolescents and Young Adults in the United States Karissa Hevelone Creighton University College of
Nursing In the United States every year there are 19 million new cases of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) (CDC, 2011). One half of those cases
are in adolescents and young adults, which cover the ages 15–24 years old (CDC, 2011). Even though this age range only represents 25% of those who
are sexually experienced in the United States, they make up an astonishing number of STI cases, which shows how high the prevalence is of STIs in
this population (CDC, 2011). In just sexually active female adolescents alone, there are one in four diagnosed with an STI (CDC, 2014). The high
numbers of occurrences of STIs in this age group may be due to a multitude of factors. Biologically, the brain at this age hasn't matured fully and
decision making based on long–term effects may not be completely developed (Steinberg as cited in Widman, Noar, Choukas–Bradley, & Francis,
2014). Therefore, adolescents and young adults may not consider the risk of STIs and act impulsively when in a sexual situation. Behaviorally, this
age group tends to have risker sexual practices such as multiple partners in a short period of time and inconsistent condom use (CDC as cited in
Widman et al., 2014). Socially, 15–24 year olds are more inclined to give into the pressures of their peers and the media (CDC, 2014). All of these

A Discussion On Sexuality And Sexually Transmitted...
The end of this week marks another week down which leaves only two more to go. With this week coming to a close, I am another step to closing
out my bachelors and hopefully starting my Masters in Cybersecurity with Excelsior in October. Despite the heavy workload with class I think this
will be a good preparation for me as I get myself in the frame of mind to start on the Masters. However, I have to first make it through these last two
weeks. This week focused was on sexually transmitted infections/diseases and sexual development throughout life. As usual, there were multiple
assignments. We had our normal issue from the Taking Sides text, though it was only one this week, a discussion on sexuality in later life, the
quiz and this wonderful three page reflection paper. Additionally our annotated bibliography was due this week. As usual, I will start with this
week's reading from the Taking Sides text. This week was slightly different in that we were given only one topic to read and discuss. The article
discussed opposing views on whether or not sexting was considered safe sex. For my initial opinion on the topic, it seemed obvious to me that it
was not a form of safe sex. In my mind people would have to be able to physically touch one another to actually have sex. Sexting is no different than
reading an adult magazine or watching an adult movie or better yet phone sex. In essence you are doing it as a prelude to masturbation or in lieu of
actually having sex. When I

Sexually Transmitted Infections ( Stis )
Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are caused by more than 25 infectious pathogens transmitted from one person to the other during anal, vaginal as
well as oral intercourse. More so, infected pregnant women can transmit STIs to infants in utero, during birth, or through breastfeeding. The most
common STIs in the U.S. include chlamydia, gonorrhea, genital herpes, human papillomavirus, trichomoniasis, and bacterial vaginosis (Buttaro,
Trybulski, Bailey, & Sandberg–Cook, 2013). According to the Centers for disease control and prevention, CDC (2015), human immunodeficiency virus
(HIV) infection is a common STD affecting more than 1.2 million people in the United States (CDC, 2015). Compared to men, women are more
biologically susceptible to STIs. Adolescents and young adults are at higher risk of transmitting STIs due to their sexual behaviors that consists of
several partners, unsafe sex without condoms, and endocervical ectopia in female patients (Buttaro et al., 2013).
The gram–negative diplococcus N. gonorrhoeae is the common pathogen for gonorrhea. About 80% of female with this infection are asymptomatic.

The Common Sexually Transmitted Infections
Infections are too common in our world today. Therefore, we must take precautions to prevent the spread of STI's. The most common sexually
transmitted infection in the world is HPV. Luckily, there is a vaccine for it. HPV stands for human papilloma virus. There are 150 different types,
some of those being cancerous. "Genital HPV is a common virus that is passed from one person to another through direct skin–to–skin contact during
sexual activity. Most sexually active people will get HPV at some time in their lives" ($). The CDC's advisory committee for immunization practices
voted that the best ages for receiving the vaccination for males were ages 11–21 and females 15–25 years old (*). Getting an HPV vaccine is the most
common precaution for those who want to avoid sexually transmitted infections. There are three parts to the HPV vaccine including Gardasil 9,
Gardasil, and Cervarix (@). First, you receive Gardasil 9, one to two months later you receive Gardasil, lastly after 6 months you receive Cervarix.
Now that we know the background, we should realize that the benefits of the HPV vaccine outweigh the risks and is well worth getting. People
should get the HPV vaccine because it prevents the STI called HPV, provides protection from certain cancers, and is reliable. The HPV vaccine is
highly recommended for the prevention of cancers. It is a protection against cervical cancer, which is the most common cancer, and other cancers of

The Common Sexually Transmitted Infections Essay
HPV is the most common sexually transmitted infection (STI). This might be the reason why the pharmaceutical company Merck & Co. has invested
time on making sure that the country is aware of HPV. Merck & Co has a few commercial about HPV and getting vaccinated. As a matter of fact the
most sexual active men and women will get at least one type of HPV at some point in their lives. People have known about the Human Papillomavirus
since 1956 because a group of scientist discovered it. However, it was not until 1984 that a German Professor by the name of Dr. Harald Zur Hausen
put the connection together that HPV and cancer coincide with one another.
Since HPV is a STI the common way of contracting it is by having vaginal , anal, or oral sex with someone who has the virus. It is most commonly
spread during vaginal or anal sex. HPV can be passed even when an infected person has no signs or symptoms. Because HPV often has no signs or
symptoms, males and females can get the virus without knowing it and then pass it on. Anyone who is sexually active can get HPV, even if you have
had sex with only one person. You also can develop symptoms years after you have sex with someone who is infected making it hard to know when
you first became infected.
There are a few HPV vaccines licensed in the United States. All HPV vaccines are administered as a 3–dose series of injections that is given deep into
the muscles over a 6–month period. These vaccines are safe and effective. The first dose

The Common Sexually Transmitted Infections
The human papillomavirus is one of the most common sexually transmitted infections in the United States. The human papillomavirus dates back to the
nineteen hundred. Scientists did not know why people who had sexually transmitted infections also had cancer. It was not until the nineteen–eighties,
that scientist discovered that the human papilloma virus may cause cancer (Preventing Cervical Cancer). The human papillomavirus is known to cause
genital warts and cancer in both men and women. In the year two thousand and six, a scientist created two vaccines that protect the human body from
contracting the virus. The Food and Drug Administration approved Gardasil and Cervarix because they were clinically tested to be safe on humans.
Unfortunately, ever since the HPV vaccine was developed and approved, people started to neglect the vaccine because it has to be taken at the age
of eleven or twelve for both boys and girls. Some parents fear that if their child is exposed to the vaccine it might encourage early sexual behavior so
they neglect it. Other people approve of the vaccine because it helps protect the body from developing cancer in certain regions. The HPV vaccine
should be required because it saves lives, reduces sexually transmitted infections, and cancer rates in the United States.
The HPV vaccine should be required in the United States because it will save more lives. During the nineteen fifties, the main cause of death of
women was cervical cancer (NIH FACT SHEETS).

Sexually Transmitted Infections ( Stis )

  • 1. Sexually Transmitted Infections ( Stis ) Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are one of the most concerning health problems in the United States. It is a serious threat to the health of the population which could lead to severe complications if left untreated. According to the CDC, approximately 20 million new cases of sexually transmitted disease are reported throughout the nation. "Though constituting 25% of the sexually active population, youth account for nearly half of new STI cases which makes them the at–risk population" ("2014 Sexually Transmitted Disease Surveillance", 2015). Research suggests this increase in cases among adolescents and young adults was attributed to the "combination of behavioral, biological and cultural factors" ("Sexual Health of Adolescents and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... S., & Mcfarlane, M., 2000). Therefore, actions must be taken to prevent this particular group from contracting and spreading the disease. In the state of Missouri, STIs are also one of the most critical health problem. According to Missouri Health Assessment (2013), the state's Gonorrhea (130.3 per 100,000 persons) and Chlamydia (465.6 per 100,000 persons) rates are significantly higher than the U.S (104.2 and 457.6 per 100,000 persons, respectively) rates. Especially in the metro regions of Kansas City and St. Louis, the prevalence rates of Gonorrhea (191.8 and 188 per 100,000 persons, respectively) and Chlamydia (606.1 and 558.8 per 100,000 persons) is significant higher than the state rates (Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, 2013). In Missouri – 2015 State Health Profile, reported rates of chlamydia among women were higher than those among men. The health profile also found that among women by age groups 20–24 had the highest number in cases for both Chlamydia and Gonorrhea. The statistics indicate that college students, especially female contributed greatly to the large number of STIs' cases in Missouri (Missouri – 2015 State Health Profile, 2015). The priority population for sexual health is the youth because they are at greater risks for contracting STIs than other age groups. Therefore, the Sexual Health Advocacy Group will focus on giving college students the tools to choose not to engage in risky sexual behaviors and information on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Chlamydi Sexually Transmitted Infection Chlamydia is the most common type of Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI) amongst young people. It is also known as 'the silent STI' because numerous people don't even know that they're even infected with this infection as symptoms don't normally appear until one to three weeks. This infection can both males and females. A person could easily be infected with Chlamydia by having sex such as anal, vaginal or oral with someone who is already infected, and that's where it all starts. Chlamydia can occur to every individual and each individual have an equal chance in getting infected, however there are consequences of contracting Chlamydia for individuals who lives in urban areas compared to rural areas. Individuals who contracts Chlamydia in urban areas are able to have professional doctors that are able to treat the infection. If there wasn't enough professional doctors available, Chlamydia can eventually spread to certain parts of the body. It infects males in the urethra (tube of the penis) and may spread to the epididymis, whilst it infects females in the neck of the uterus (cervix) and spread to the uterus and fallopian tubes, causing pelvic inflammatory disease and etc. As a result of the number of professional doctors in urban areas, doctors are able to cure and treat Chlamydia... • 3. Health Promotion Assignment : Sexually Transmitted Infections HEALTH PROMOTION ASSIGNMENT SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED INFECTIONS Background "I dream of the day when every new born child is welcome, when men and women are equal and when sexuality is an expression of intimacy, joy and tenderness" Elise Ottesen–Jensen, the Founder, Swedish Association for Sexual Education (1993). Introduction In Australia even though safe and effective treatments are available for many sexually transmitted infections (STI), there has been a steady increase in cases of gonorrhoea, chlamydia and syphilis in the last five years. In addition, there are gaps in the interpretation of notification data. Social stigma, discrimination against those affected by sexually transmitted infections and human rights abuse limit access to the available prevention and treatment strategies, and identifying the burden of the consequence from the STI on fertility. Therefore, working on the existing gaps in knowledge there are regarding the mentoring and understanding priority populations and how best to communicate with them and support behaviour changes in them are essential key for any health promotion activity. According to the World Health Organization, sexually transmitted infections may be defined as infections that are spread primarily through person–to–person sexual contact. There are more than 30 different sexually transmissible bacteria, viruses and parasites. The most common conditions they cause are gonorrhoea, chlamydial infection, syphilis, trichomoniasis, ... • 4. Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI) INTRODUCTION The University of North Carolina Central is located in Durham, North Carolina. The US National Library of Medicine National Institution of Heath states that in 2009 it was reported that 65 Percent of HIV infected people receiving care had undetectable viral loads. There were many reasons that prevented people from getting tested such stigma, fear, and denial of risk, included costs, transportation, and low medical literacy (Bartlett, Kolman, & Proeschold, 2009). It is important that students become aware of ones surroundings and learn how to protect themselves. One needs to get over their fear to prevent damage that cannot be reversed. College provides an abundance of freedom and many different paths to travel down but it is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Exposure to drugs and alcohol directly increases the amount of risky sexual activity students engage in, and the college environment provides an opportunity to have sexual encounters with multiple partners, even in a casual context, often without condom use or other forms of contraception. These students are at heightened risk for sexually transmitted diseases, HIV, and unwanted pregnancies. Research in this area has relied on the theory of planned behavior (TPB) to identify beliefs and attitudes that might predict sexual risk taking. However, the TPB model does not take into consideration other factors that might influence sexual behaviors such as past sexual history, moral beliefs, self–esteem, family expectation, and peer influence. College is a time for experimentation and discovering the world around you. More importantly, it is when one discovers him or herself. Being away from home is a new found freedom that most freshmen have not experienced before. On college campuses and more specifically historically black institutions students are becoming a victim of their own freedoms. Sexually transmitted infections are on the rise and education and awareness is key in the fight against it. Without getting into religion or personal beliefs saying someone has too much sex or other risky behaviors is hard to do, but limiting these behaviors as well as taking preventative ... • 5. Sexually Transmitted Infections ( Sti ) And Unwanted... Sexually transmitted infections (STI) and unwanted pregnancies has been a health concern among young adults who engage in risky sexual behaviors for some time. These behaviors can include having multiple sex partners and not using contraception before, during, or after sexual intercourse. Although, the rate of teenage pregnancies have decreased is it still a significant number of young girls who are getting pregnant before they are married, or even out of high school. According to the CDC, Young people ages 15–24 contract almost half the nation's 19 million new STIs every year. (2008) During this age, they start discovering their our bodies, find interest in other people around them, and become curious about participating in sexual activities without fully understanding the risk or gaining enough knowledge to keep themselves protected. Although there are more than just young people who are engaging in sexual interactions, they are the ones who lack a lot of the maturity and self–control needed make better decisions. They may know the risk they are taking when they choose not to use condoms but many still don't belief they are at risk for diseases and unwanted pregnancies so they choose not to use any forms of contraception. When they decide to engage in risky sexual behaviors they don't only put themselves at risk for diseases, but they also put others at risk. The use of condoms is important because it protects from a number of diseases and infections, and even an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. College Campuses and Sexually Transmitted Infections Essay College campuses have seen a rise, in the epidemic of Sexually transmitted diseases. Sexually transmitted diseases have quickly become a household name amongst Americans. The dangers and health issues related to acquiring a STD has been the reason why more attention has been brought to the STD epidemic. The reason for this attention is to hopefully, slow down the rate of STD'S amongst students. There is a very astonishing fact stated by the Agape Pregnancy Resource Center, "Nearly 80% percent of people that are infected with STD's do not know it. ("Agape Pregnancy Resource Center") The use of condoms, knowing your status, and the practice of abstinence are very effective ways of avoiding contracting STD's. If we do not make students... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some may ask but condoms are latex and I'm allergic to latex, what should I do? There is to be no worries, condoms are also made with other material for people who are allergic to latex, therefore there is no excuse for not protecting yourself. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention states "Laboratory studies have demonstrated that latex condoms provide an essentially impermeable barrier to particles the size of STD pathogens. ("Centers for Disease Control and Prevention") Thus aiding in the reason why condoms are so important, to maintain healthy sex life's. Next, a very useful way to stay STD free is to know your status. Most students today have no clue they are infected and unknowingly pass it on to partners or spouses. The government has made available health clinics where check up's to know your status on STD's are free. Clinics are also places where treatment can be given, if a certain STD is found and is treatable. Many students are embarrassed or scared to know their status and would rather just live their lives, not knowing their status. This mindset among citizens is very selfish, which can lead to the danger of others. In the sense of a woman knowing her status, she will be able to determine if birth is still an option if a certain STD has affected her fertility. • 7. HPV: The Most Common Sexually Transmitted Infection Essay Introduction The most common sexually transmitted infection (STI) is human papillomavirus (HPV) (CDC, 2013). Over half of sexually activity people will become infected with HPV at some point in their lifetime (National Cancer Institute, 2012). HPV can fall into two categories: low–risk HPV and high–risk HPV (National Cancer Institute, 2012). Low–risk HPV, also known as HPV types 6 and 11, cause about 90% of genital warts (National Cancer Institute, 2012). High–risk HPV, also known as HPV types 16 and 18, causes about 70% of cervical cancer (National Cancer Institute, 2012). There are two HPV vaccines available for females (Cervarix and Gardasil) that protect against cervical cancer (CDC, 2013). The CDC Advisory Committee on Immunization... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since HPV is spread through sexual activity, many people believe requiring the vaccine unethical (Shi & Johnson, 2014). Recent studies have shown that groups who are at the highest risk for cervical cancer are the ones who have the lowest uptake of the HPV vaccine (Shi & Johnson, 2014). Required vaccines for school entry have been successful at making sure children are vaccinated before they enter school, regardless of their race, socioeconomic status, ethnicity, and geographic location (Shi & Johnson, 2014). What considerations might count against mandatory HPV vaccination for all girls aged 11–12? There are many ethical and legal issues that count against a mandatory HPV vaccination for all girls aged 11–12 years old. First, the long–term safety and effectiveness of the vaccination is unknown (Javitt et al., 2008). Clinical trials conducted on the HPV vaccine concluded no short–term adverse effects, but as more girls and young women begin to get the vaccine some adverse effects may appear (Javitt et al., 2008). The extent immunity of the HPV vaccine is also unclear. Studies have shown the vaccine to be present in 3–4 year follow–ups, but the long–term effectiveness has not been studied (Javitt et al., 2008). Furthermore, HPV has a long incubation period, which would only affect a small amount of individuals many years after they finish school (Stewart, 2008). Next, since HPV is only contracted through sexual activity, exposure is not associated with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Case Study On Blood Transfusion INTRODUCTION Blood is one of the integral components of body constituents, which flows throughout body and becomes a reason for survival. Blood transfusion is a life saving intervention for patients in need of transfusion. Blood borne infections are common serious hurdles of blood transfusion. Considering the serious consequences of these infections and to hold back the transmission to minimum, it is extremely important to remain vigilant about the possible spread of these diseases in the course of blood transfusion1. Transfusion safety begins with healthy donors. Blood transfusion is safer than ever before through continuous improvements in donor recruitment, screening, testing of donated blood with increasingly sensitive assays, and appropriate clinical use of blood. Serologic testing for transfusion transmitted infections had historically been the foundation of blood screening, while newer strategies like nucleic acid testing (NAT) have helped further shorten the "window period". Moreover, threat of infectious agents entering the blood supply is not constant and may evolve as new pathogens emerge or when old ones change their epidemiological pattern. In 2002, the Government of India adopted the National Blood Policy "An action plan for blood ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 9. Sexual Transmitted Infection Summary STI or Sexual Transmitted Infection is one of the most common issues that sexually active people obtain from unprotected sex. This can lead to a serious problem when left untreated. In Tad and Kara's case, I would think that Tad is not telling the truth and he is hiding something from Kara. If Tad is not hiding something even though he claimed that he has never taken sexual risks, he should not be upset. Kara is just protecting herself from possible sexual related illness. If he does not want to be tested then Kara has the right to refuse to his request or desire. On the other hand, Kara should understand that if Tad loves him and value their relationship, he would consider her health. It is not worth it to stay in a relationship that one cannot ... • 10. Human Papillomavirus : Common Sexually Transmitted... Human papillomavirus (HPV) is a common sexually transmitted infection. HPV family of viruses comprises many oncogenic and non–oncogenic types that cause anal, penile, and oropharyngeal cancers and anogenital warts in men respectively. Men who have sex with men (MSM) are at particularly high risk for HPV infection and HPV–related disease (Markowitz et al., 2014). In one study, oncogenic HPV types 16 and/or 18 were detected in 37% of MSM between ages 16 and 30 years (Glick et al., 2014). Anal cancer rates are more than 17 times higher among MSM compared to their heterosexual counterpart (Daling et al., 2004, Joseph et al., 2008; Machalek et al., 2012). Anal cancer rates are even higher among HIV–positive MSM (Silverberg et al., 2012). Moreover, recent data revealed a rapid increase in HPV associated oropharyngeal cancers rates among men in the United States (Charturvedi et al., 2011). Aside from cancer, HPV associated anogenital warts negatively affect quality of life and are expensive to treat (Woodhall et al., 2011). Close to 7% of gay and bisexual men report history of genital warts. (Dinh et al., 2008) While three FDA approved vaccines are available in the US, only Gardasil and Gardasil 9 are approved for use in males. HPV vaccines are highly effective in preventing infection with the types of HPV they target when given before initial exposure to the virus, mainly before individuals begin to engage in sexual activity. To date, protection against the targeted HPV types has ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. The Spread Of A Sexually Transmitted Infections In the world today almost everyone knows what a sexually transmitted infection is. People know that these are infections caused by risky behavior and can stay with someone for the rest of their life. Although people know what a sexually transmitted infection is they may not know the proper way to prevent such infections or they may be unware of what their community offers to help prevent unwanted pregnancy and infections. I ventured to my local grocery store, Standale Meijer, to see what variety of options were available for men and women to prevent unwanted sexually transmitted infections. I was greeted by a plethora of options. Most of the products were geared towards men, such as condoms. There were about fifteen different types of condoms across seven different brands. Trojan was a more prominent brand that was offered at this location. There were about ten different Trojan condom types. Among them were ultra ribbed, fire and ice, bareskin, ultra thin and her pleasure ecstasy.Birth control options offered at this location was not a huge selection. I found four different types, all of which were for women. The options provided are Plan B, Today Sponge, Options Conceptrol, and Vaginal Contraceptive Film. All are over the counter but you need to go to a pharmacist to acquire Plan B. Fortunately, I was the only one on the isle so I did not feel like anyone was watching me or feel awkward for staring at all these different condoms and contraceptive items. The Pregnancy ... The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC, 2015) has estimated 2.86 million infections are occurring annually in the United States. The highest risk group for chlamydia infections are sexually active females aged 14 to 24 years (CDC, 2015). In addition, in rural areas women may have limited access to the number of in–network providers that can affect their ability in being screened. Apart from accessing a health care provider, the additional cost for the office visit fee is a concern. Cost is a major barrier for women in affording screening services. Under the covered preventive services policy, a healthcare provider can legally impose a cost–sharing requirement or an office visit fee. The current policy does not address the maximum limit a woman can pay for an office visit fee. The need for change for this policy proposal are as follows: 1.To allow women to visit in–network or out–of–network providers equally without being charge a coinsurance, copayment, or a deductible for chlamydia screening exams. 2.The office visit fee will be no higher than $40.00 for chlamydia screening exams. • 13. Sexually transmitted infections were the last thing I was thinking about. Those could not affect me. When I first had sex I was 16 years old and I was "in love." I trusted that 18 year old senior. He told me he loved me and I was his "first." I was naГЇve and he was manipulative. I wasn't his first or even his last during our relationship. When I found out, we broke up. I was heartbroken. I moved on and went on to college. During my college years I met the most incredible man ever. We went on dates, talked, and could not get enough of each other. After we started dating, we took things slow. A little while into our relationship, we decided that we both wanted to take it to the next level. We decided to be responsible adults because neither of us were virgins and we wanted to make sure we were safe. On our own time, we each got tested. I was really busy with school so Logan went first. He got his results back and encouraged me to find the time to go. Later that day, I made my appointment. I was scheduled for a Thursday afternoon during my lunch break. When I went in for my appointment, I had no clue what I was in for. The doctor did all the tests and told me she would call me back with the results. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. Sexually Transmitted Infection Public Health Problem Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) has been a persisting public health problem throughout the world. While some STIs, like gonorrhea, are curable, other STIs like human papillomavirus (HPV), have no cure and can lead to deadly consequences. Unfortunately, HPV is considered to be the most common type of sexually transmitted infection. Like all STIs, HPV spread through sexual contact with an infected person, whether it be vaginal, anal, or oral sex. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there are about 79 million Americans infected with HPV at a time and about 14 million new cases arise every year ("Human Papillomavirus (HPV)"). It was found that after the vaccine program was introduced, there was a lower number of reports of women having high–grade cervical abnormalities. While this was only the first report, it shows great promise that implementing a program for the HPV vaccine will have a positive effect on women's health. • 17. Human Papillomavirus : Common Sexually Transmitted... Introduction Human papillomavirus (HPV) is a common sexually transmitted infection. Close to 7% of gay and bisexual men report a history of genital warts. (Dinh et al., 2008) While three FDA approved vaccines are available in the US, only Gardasil and Gardasil 9 are approved for use in males. Gardasil and Gardasil 9 have been approved for males, ages 9 through 26 years and 9 through 15 years respectively, for the prevention of HPV–caused anal cancer, precancerous anal lesions, and genital warts (NIH–NCI, 2015). In women, symptoms may include abnormal vaginal discharge, burning during urination, and bleeding in between periods, although most women do not experience any symptoms. Symptoms in men include pain when urinating, and abnormal discharge from their penis. Sexually Transmitted Infections And Young Adults Sexually Transmitted Infection Prevention in Adolescents and Young Adults in the United States Karissa Hevelone Creighton University College of Nursing In the United States every year there are 19 million new cases of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) (CDC, 2011). One half of those cases are in adolescents and young adults, which cover the ages 15–24 years old (CDC, 2011). Even though this age range only represents 25% of those who are sexually experienced in the United States, they make up an astonishing number of STI cases, which shows how high the prevalence is of STIs in this population (CDC, 2011). In just sexually active female adolescents alone, there are one in four diagnosed with an STI (CDC, 2014). The high numbers of occurrences of STIs in this age group may be due to a multitude of factors. Biologically, the brain at this age hasn't matured fully and decision making based on long–term effects may not be completely developed (Steinberg as cited in Widman, Noar, Choukas–Bradley, & Francis, 2014). Therefore, adolescents and young adults may not consider the risk of STIs and act impulsively when in a sexual situation. Behaviorally, this age group tends to have risker sexual practices such as multiple partners in a short period of time and inconsistent condom use (CDC as cited in Widman et al., 2014). Socially, 15–24 year olds are more inclined to give into the pressures of their peers and the media (CDC, 2014). All of these factors ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Additionally our annotated bibliography was due this week. As usual, I will start with this week's reading from the Taking Sides text. This week was slightly different in that we were given only one topic to read and discuss. The article discussed opposing views on whether or not sexting was considered safe sex. For my initial opinion on the topic, it seemed obvious to me that it was not a form of safe sex. In my mind people would have to be able to physically touch one another to actually have sex. Sexting is no different than reading an adult magazine or watching an adult movie or better yet phone sex. In essence you are doing it as a prelude to masturbation or in lieu of actually having sex. • 35. Sexually Transmitted Infections ( Stis ) Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are caused by more than 25 infectious pathogens transmitted from one person to the other during anal, vaginal as well as oral intercourse. More so, infected pregnant women can transmit STIs to infants in utero, during birth, or through breastfeeding. The most common STIs in the U.S. include chlamydia, gonorrhea, genital herpes, human papillomavirus, trichomoniasis, and bacterial vaginosis (Buttaro, Trybulski, Bailey, & Sandberg–Cook, 2013). According to the Centers for disease control and prevention, CDC (2015), human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection is a common STD affecting more than 1.2 million people in the United States (CDC, 2015). Compared to men, women are more biologically susceptible to STIs. Adolescents and young adults are at higher risk of transmitting STIs due to their sexual behaviors that consists of several partners, unsafe sex without condoms, and endocervical ectopia in female patients (Buttaro et al., 2013). The gram–negative diplococcus N. gonorrhoeae is the common pathogen for gonorrhea. About 80% of female with this infection are asymptomatic. The most common sexually transmitted infection in the world is HPV. Luckily, there is a vaccine for it. HPV stands for human papilloma virus. There are 150 different types, some of those being cancerous. "Genital HPV is a common virus that is passed from one person to another through direct skin–to–skin contact during sexual activity. • 37. The Common Sexually Transmitted Infections Essay HPV is the most common sexually transmitted infection (STI). This might be the reason why the pharmaceutical company Merck & Co. has invested time on making sure that the country is aware of HPV. Merck & Co has a few commercial about HPV and getting vaccinated. As a matter of fact the most sexual active men and women will get at least one type of HPV at some point in their lives. People have known about the Human Papillomavirus since 1956 because a group of scientist discovered it. However, it was not until 1984 that a German Professor by the name of Dr. Harald Zur Hausen put the connection together that HPV and cancer coincide with one another. Since HPV is a STI the common way of contracting it is by having vaginal , anal, or oral sex with someone who has the virus. It is most commonly spread during vaginal or anal sex. HPV can be passed even when an infected person has no signs or symptoms. Because HPV often has no signs or symptoms, males and females can get the virus without knowing it and then pass it on. Anyone who is sexually active can get HPV, even if you have had sex with only one person. You also can develop symptoms years after you have sex with someone who is infected making it hard to know when you first became infected. There are a few HPV vaccines licensed in the United States. All HPV vaccines are administered as a 3–dose series of injections that is given deep into the muscles over a 6–month period. These vaccines are safe and effective. The first dose ... • 38. The Common Sexually Transmitted Infections The human papillomavirus is one of the most common sexually transmitted infections in the United States. The human papillomavirus dates back to the nineteen hundred. Scientists did not know why people who had sexually transmitted infections also had cancer. It was not until the nineteen–eighties, that scientist discovered that the human papilloma virus may cause cancer (Preventing Cervical Cancer). The human papillomavirus is known to cause genital warts and cancer in both men and women. In the year two thousand and six, a scientist created two vaccines that protect the human body from contracting the virus. The Food and Drug Administration approved Gardasil and Cervarix because they were clinically tested to be safe on humans. Unfortunately, ever since the HPV vaccine was developed and approved, people started to neglect the vaccine because it has to be taken at the age of eleven or twelve for both boys and girls. Some parents fear that if their child is exposed to the vaccine it might encourage early sexual behavior so they neglect it. Other people approve of the vaccine because it helps protect the body from developing cancer in certain regions. The HPV vaccine should be required because it saves lives, reduces sexually transmitted infections, and cancer rates in the United States.
