Giancarlo De Carlo, An Italian Architect
Giancarlo De Carlo was an Italian Architect. He wasn't known as an architect until the 1940s, but
rather a writer and a teacher. He trained as an architect in the 1940s, which was during the Second
World War, leading him to generate his philosophy towards life and architecture but he did not start
building until the 1950s. He was a founding member of Team X, Team X was a group of architects
that formed at the 9th congress of CIAM (Congrès International d 'Architecture Moderne). Their
aim was to reassess the role and function of architecture, paying attention to rebuilding built
environments and their surrounding social and natural conditions. Famous works by De Carlo
include 'The Magistero' at Urbino, 1968–76, 'Collegio del Colle' at Urbino, 1962–66 and 'Faculty of
Economics' at University of Urbino, 1986–99. De Carlo has strong opinions about Modernism
Movement; he often critiques the Modern Movement. He sees that the Modern Movement was an
opportunity wasted, as he had written a number of articles regarding Modern Architecture.
Modernism was a radical movement that first emerged in the early 20th century, but was not popular
till after the Second World War. During the 1970s, many architects began to notice the increasing
failures of the Modern Movement. De Carlo has a lot of criticism towards the Modern Movement.
Though he believes that the aims of the Modern Movement were correct and valuable, they failed to
deliver to the users, they had failed to provide architecture

Components Of Integrated Project Delivery
What is Integrated Project Design?
There are many different business structures in place which businesses around the world are using
today. One of these business structures, used in the design and construction industry, is called
Integrated Project Delivery. Integrated Project Delivery is a business style which incorporates all
aspects of design throughout the entire design process. This includes, but is not limited to, all
participants, business coordination's, and business systems, and the way they interact with the
specialties of the participants, in turn producing fluidity within the design and a highly effective
final product. The main players within IPD are owners, architect, contractors, designers, sub–
contractors, consultants and suppliers.
Collaboration is key within Integrated Project Delivery (4). In order to create this type of building
structure all parties involved must be willing to collaborate. When this happens the result creates an
open, shared business model where no information is hidden or lost in communication. This lessens
the instance of becoming fragmented and disconnected. Early involvement of all participants from
owner to supplier produces a mutual understanding of the goal and outcome of the design and leaves
everyone with an equal understanding of the project. At this point in IPD mutual trust can be gained
as well as mutual benefit while understanding everyone's role in the process. Team building is
another major part of IPD. Under each main

The Impact Of Social Media On The Workplace
Building Relationships This experience is the first time I have been introduced to professional
relationships. I took the time to set up a LinkedIn account. It always brings a smile to my face when
a subcontractor requests to connect with me. I believe that social media outlets such as LinkedIn
give professionals an opportunity to keep up with each other 's successes. The lowest level
relationship I have built is with the field workers from our concrete subcontractors. I have enjoyed
getting to know them and hearing how they got to Texas. One of the workers was born and raised in
California. He recently heard about how strong the economy was in Houston, so he packed
everything up and moved here. Another worker was born in Mexico and just recently became an
American citizen. He is enrolled night classes to strengthen his speaking skills. I have a tremendous
amount of respect for the men who work in the field. The highest level relationship I have built is
with the chief executive officer of Linbeck. I believe it says a lot about a company when even the
highest levels of leadership are able to recognize your face and call you by name. I am proud to be a
part of a company who values the idea of being a family. I believe the most important relationship I
have established outside of Linbeck is with project managers from the various trades. These men
and women have taught me so much about the specifics of their work. Whether I am talking to the

Can Critical Regionalism Counteract The Impact Of...
Can Critical Regionalism counteract the impact of Globalisation on our cities?
In the era of constant networking and relaying of information, the world has become a much smaller
place. The shrinking world has somewhat become a familiar spectacle of identical fads and
lifestyles. At least in the developed countries, globalisation has given birth to homogenous consumer
culture. Demonstrated not only by the expansion of multi–national cooperations such as Apple and
Starbucks but also by the indistinct architecture. It is a common sighting in urban cities today to see
the identical steel, concrete and glass structures. This occurrence might be innate due to the easy
exportation of concepts and architects, however not obligatory. Whilst advancing towards a modern
society, architects have adapted this "universal style" of architecture that fails to represent the unique
topography of different cities. Architects have the choice to either "repeat the same building
everywhere or to push ourselves forward, to create an encounter between ourselves and the local
culture" (Koolhaas, 2012). If the notion of Critical Regionalism were to be practiced by architects
through the integration of the local culture with modern techniques, it could potentially return the
missing identities of these cities.
Critical Regionalism was devised during the early 20th century, as an attempt to reject the monotony
developed by the International Style and the purposeless ornamentation utilised by

Project Delivery System For The State Of Texas
FINDINGS
This paper is an attempt to satisfy the needs of an owner to make an educated decision in choosing a
project delivery system for their project. With the introduction of Bridging method of project
delivery, it is a challenging task for the owner to make a decision about the most suitable method of
project delivery for the geographic location of their project. As, it requires historical data about
performance of similar projects or the owners can obtain data from research conducted by
scholars/organizations.

Unit Cost ($/SF): Mean construction cost in US dollars required to build one square foot of the
facility. The formula to calculate the unit cost is:
Unit Cost = As–Built Construction Cost / Size of the Facility in SF
The mean unit cost values of the projects ranged from approximately $100/SF to $400/SF, and the
comparison clearly depicts that using the Bridging method of project delivery has given the lowest
mean cost in comparison to other project delivery systems. ii. Cost Growth: Cost growth is the
percentage mean change in the cost of the project as compared to the contracted cost of the project.
The formula to compare the cost growth is:
Cost Growth = (Contracted construction cost – As–built construction cost) Contracted construction
cost
The mean cost growth in cost of construction when compared to the contracted cost is the highest in
Design–bid–build and is the lowest in Design–build. The approximate values of mean cost growth
lies around 3% to 9%. iii. Delivery Speed (SF/month): Average SF construction that was delivered
in one month divided by 30 days.
The range of delivery speed lies approximately between 5000 to 13000 SF/month. D–B–B has the
lowest delivery speed and D–B has the highest. iv. Schedule Growth (%): Schedule growth is a
percentage of increase in the duration of the project compared to as–planned duration. It is
computed using the following formula:

Outline Of A Proposal Outline
Memo
Date: April 10, 2015
To: Amanda Rico, Instructor: English 210 Section 581
From: Jared Glenn
Subject: MWP 2 Outline of Report Completion
Purpose
The purpose of this memo is to provide an outline of the topics I plan to conduct further research on
and compile that research in a formalized report over the specifics of those topics. The final result
will be a proposed program, backed with modern research sourcing, ready for completion.
Introduction
In reference to my last memo, I discussed plans to make alterations to Francis Hall, a newly
renovated building on the Texas A&M Campus for the Construction Science Department and
student. Specifically, the first task is survey to compile major courses of action, followed by
compiling a proposal in conjunction with a general contractor for consideration by the Board of
Regents. The original renovation had a budget of 5 million dollars, which included classrooms, a
computer lab, student lounge, lavatories, and staff offices. The renovation is suitable for the current
status of Construction Science; however the growing program will soon outgrow the building. For
these reasons, I am writing a follow up memo of the topics to be included in my upcoming
researched recommendation report.
Tasks to be Researched
With approval to conduct research on my proposed tasks, I will begin by restating each task from
the original memo, followed by the subtasks I will research for each main task.
Main Task 1. Research student opinion, and popular

The British Architects Of The 20th Century
INTRODUCTION
Born on September 8, 1914, Sir Denys Louis Lasdun is considered among the most distinguished
British architects of the 20th century. He is credited with having contributed to London's urban
landscape. Among the works for which he is best known are the Royal National Theatre at London's
South Banks of the Thames, the European Investment Bank in Luxembourg, the Royal College of
Physicians in Regent 's Park and the University of East Anglia. The others of Lasdun's buildings
were a building at 32 Newton Road, Paddington, Hallfield Primary School, Usk Street Housing,
Keeling House and the Sports Centre at the University of Liverpool. Considering how eminent these
landmark buildings are in London's landscape, it is apparent that Lasdun was a much–sough
architect, especially by the British government as well as the local authorities. Lasdun's architecture
falls under the Brutalist architecture of the United Kingdom under which many prominent 20th
century British and European architects worked. Among the architects that worked under Brutalism
and had great influence on Lasdun's architecture were Le Corbusier, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and
Nicholas Hawksmoor. Lasdun's fame as a world class architect could be largely attributed to the fact
that his architecture spanned the whole era of modernism in British art.
It is often asserted that Lasdun's architecture was derived from and driven by his boredom with the
sameness or identicalness of English architecture and the

Is Girl Education A Natural Choice For My Life?
"We must free ourselves of the hope that the sea will ever rest. We must learn to sail in high
winds."– were the words guiding my life throughout. I was born in the surrounding where girl
education was given least preference. I was very fortunate to have parents who were both traditional
and progressive at the same time. Where on one hand, my father toiled, struggled and strived to earn
enough to educate us, resolute efforts of my mother towards her life goal to educate her children, is
indelible. The journey from small town to Delhi Public School, Patna took a lot of hard work and
patience. I was a bright and intelligent student since childhood. Never did I fail to score highest in
mathematics in my school days. My interest in Mathematics and Physics made science a natural
choice for my graduation. Also, lately I scored 170/170 in the quantitative section of the GRE,
which re–ascertains my acumen for technical subjects. On one hand, when my parents were
transcending social convention by educating a girl child, on the other, they had to face financial
crunch situations. My consistent good scores in high schools made my parents believe in me. I put
in my heart and soul to compete for one of the challenging technical exam, IIT–JEE, to grab this life
opportunity. My perseverance bore fruits when I was selected in IIT Roorkee. IIT presented me with
the best of opportunities to mix up with the talented minds in both academic and non–academic
pursuits. From the classrooms to

What Are The Major 3d Pen Pictures?
What are the major 3D pen pictures?
Description: Try and make easy 3D pen pictures at home in order to create different useful things
that can be used in daily life. The decorative aspect of these objects can be easily taken care by 3d
pens.
Drawing is nothing but a fun game for creating arts. But in most of the cases, it has been found that
only two–dimensional images are getting created. If you want to take this particular artistic activity
to another level ahead, then nothing can be the best option other than creating three–dimensional
images. But it is not so easy to create 3D pen pictures rather specialized devices are required and
this is the reason 3D pens have been invented.
3D pens are highly efficient in creating some exclusive varieties of 3d pen pictures that are simply
extraordinary. These pens need to be warmed up properly so that appropriate images can be created
without any hindrances. But in this case it is important to choose the right version of 3D pen
otherwise the pictures will get distorted. Get some new ideas from available samples so that you can
create completely amazing three–dimensional pictures.
Some basic pictures created by 3D pens
Decorative tablet–holders can now be easily created with 3D pens and these holders are highly
efficient in holding the tablets in the most convenient way. Wide–base holders are most appropriate
as that can perfectly hold your tablets. On the other hand, these holders can now be created as per

Introduction The final internship report is a way to reflect on your overall assessment on how you
taken the prior education of construction management, and applied it towards an internship. As well
as expressing new experiences that happened during the internship that school courses did not
prepare you for or not taught yet. These topics are covered by explaining the primary task that was
performed throughout the internship, and how technology was utilized in completing the
responsibilities. While performing these activities, how did they enhance your communication skills
and public speaking abilities. During the period of the internship, in what way were legal and ethical
issues brought up, and what lessons were learned to prevent future encounters. Internship
Orientation and Preparation Before going through orientation, I reported to the main office to go
through a background check, because I would be working on a school. Following the background
check I needed to complete a physical exam, and a drug test. Once my company received
notification that I passed, I was scheduled for orientation. During orientation, I went through
multiple presentations, and ended with a safety exam to give me authorization to work on the
jobsite. Before reporting to orientation, I would recommend researching your company and be able
to recognize, and know the names of all upper management employees. Activities and Experiences

The Architects Of Their Own Downfall
Please excuse the cliché here, but architects are; the architects of their own downfall. August
Schmarsow likens the role of the architect as similar to a conductor in an orchestra. 'The conductors
of space'. A quite romantic notion, but why has the trust diminished between client and architect? In
the UK, for example, most clients are now seeking developers rather than employ an architect. To
which there is certain logic, why employ an external body who will not only cost more, but may
start to deploy their own ideas onto the scheme? Surely the client calls the shots because of their
larger wallet? Here in lies the problem. Developers, Town Planners and Surveyors are all 'number
based' professions, a series of calculations dictating spatial qualities and aesthetic appeal. How many
bedrooms can we fit in, what is the cost of the project, what kind of profits can we make? All
questions that the client will be more than content with when dealing with said professions. The
architect is seen as the 'rebel' of the building profession; forever pushing limits to design, aesthetics,
engineering and spatial quality. The architect brings a unique quality to the design team, a
consideration for all aspects. Be that of scale, cost, materiality, spatial, detailing, servicing,
romantics, social implications, theoretical aspirations. The list goes on and on. But this is the point;
it is this 'wide' consideration that makes the architect a 'disposable' and superfluous piece of the

KONE: MONOSPACE LAUNCH IN GERMANY
Factors contributed to the launch performance of KONE on the Netherlands, France and UK? When
launched, sales of KONE's Monospace was the highest in Netherlands, then France and in UK none
was sold in the first 3 months. Monospace is an elevator invented by KONE using the latest
technology that uses an "EcoDisc" that eliminates the use of a machine room and further incur
significant energy cost savings for the building management. It is an upgraded version for geared
traction elevators. There is more construction freedom and construction costs could be saved using
Monospace too. The technology of Monospace then could be used for buildings of 12 floors or less.

The space saved could be used for other revenue generating activities which will further please
clients. Without building an extra machine room also saves some construction costs. Construction
players are normally tight on budget, the savings gives them flexibility to adjust their profits. In
addition, changing to Monospace requires minimal changes of their original architectural designs. 2.
Energy efficiency As mentioned in the case, the construction boom has ended and there are at most
26% of existing buildings have a chance of upgrading to Monospace. This point would be important
to existing building managements as their monthly cost could be reduced substantially if they
upgrade to Monospace elevators. Monospace consumes a third of energy a hydraulic elevator
consumes and half of what a geared traction elevator consumes. Its speed is also at 1 mtr/s similar to
a geared traction elevator. These monthly savings can be seen on the bills and they add up to a
substantial amount annually. For construction managers and architects, this value could be used to
impress clients. 3. Lower fire potential Monospace elevators unlike hydraulic and geared traction
elevators, do not require oil for operation. It reduces fire potential which is a great problem for
residential areas. It is also one strong point of difference that KONE possess against competitors.

Causes Of Conflicts Of A Construction Industry : A...
A review of Mitkus, T.,&Mitkus, S.(2014). Causes of conflicts in a construction industry: a
communicational approach. Journal of social and behavioral sciences, 110, pp.777–786
Mitkus, T.and Mitkus, S. are the authors of this paper. The paper was published by Elsevier in 2014.
Construction conflicts reduce the profits and also have a huge influence on stakeholders'
investments. However, Yiu and Cheung (2006) state that construction conflicts sometimes are
inevitable because there are a lot of people take part in the construction project. The authors of this
article assume that the main cause of the construction conflicts is ineffective communication
between the participants. The aim of this article is to test the assumption. In this paper, the analysis
is mainly focused on the conflicts between the participants who directly take part in the construction
project.
The conflict and dispute are two distinct concepts. Acharya and Lee (2006) have proposed a risk,
conflict, claim and dispute continuum model. It introduces that if risks cannot be clearly assigned
will lead to conflicts. Conflicts cannot be clearly managed will cause claims. If claims cannot be
clearly resolved will lead to dispute. Sarat (1984) first introduced a dispute pyramid, which is an
effective tool to analyze the disputes.
Acharya and Lee (2006) classified the causes of construction conflict into five types. Conflicts may
be caused by owner, consultant, contractor, third party and other participants. And

Role of the Quantity Surveyor
The Role of the Quantity Surveying Profession
The origins of the Quantity Surveyor (QS) profession can dated back during the 19th century where
from the earlier "measurer", a specialist tradesman, who readied schedules for a building project in
which all of the construction materials and labour activities and were quantified. Based on this
information, competing builders could submit priced tenders. Because all tenders were based on the
same schedule of information, they could be easily compared to one another, making it a much
simpler way of being able to chose the best bid as it narrowed the variables down (Powell, 1996).
While the QS profession owes its origin to the "measurer" it was until the 1820s that as a profession

The contracts and conditions differ from the other two sectors previously mentioned too and it is
these things that set this sector apart. This type of work for a QS is more method related than
building works with greater use of mechanical plants and temporary works. When a QS pulls
together Bill of Quantities there is usually few items of large quantities. Skills of a QS in this field in
particular are that they must be conversant with the varying working rule agreements, day work
rates and other documents for example the civil engineering procedure published by the institute of
civil engineers. Since the 20century began the QS has had a role within the civil engineering
contractors. Pre and post contract services are provided to civil engineer client by a QS also.
Heavy and Industrial Engineering
With this type of work a QS will be working on such projects that include steel plants, off shore oil
and gas rigs, nuclear processing, production facilities and power plants to name a few. With the
economic downturn affecting all sectors of business of late a huge emphasis on cost control has been
placed upon these industries which is where the role of a QS is defined. In this industry sector it isn't
unusual to be referred to as a cost engineer as opposed to a QS. In this sector there is a great focus

What´s Deconstruvist Architecture? Essay
Rem Koolhaas, Daniel Liebeskind, Frank Gehry and Zaha Hadid. Modern day 'starchitects' who –
through their practice of deconstructivist architecture – have heavily influenced the overall approach
to today's architecture. But what exactly is deconstructivist architecture? Is it a derivative of
postmodernist principles, or something of its own entirety? Through the analysis of particular
modern day architects and their works, deconstructivism ascertains its emergence as a separate
architectural form that contrasts with and challenges postmodern design principles.
Deconstructivism can be characterised as an external design principle developed and evolved from
postmodernist architecture. Deriving its philosophy from the works of controversial ... Show more

Deconstructivist architecture is more often than not perceived to be an extension of postmodernist
design principles. However, through the works of modern day architects such as Zaha Hadid and
Daniel Liebeskind, deconstructivist architecture separates itself from postmodernism via structural
geometry and physicality. Postmodernist architecture concerns itself with the usability of a structure
first and foremost – with the building's aestheticism becoming an afterthought. This heavily
contrasts with the philosophy of deconstructivism, as the structure's appearance takes primary focus.
This deconstructivist philosophy is represented in Zaha Hadid's Beko Building. The structural
properties of the building defy the architectural norm through the randomness of the building's
shape. As is displayed in the building's site plan the structure takes on an irregular 'water–droplet'
form – comprised of multiple layers and storeys– that highlight the importance of form rather than
function.
The building focuses on its envelope as the structure's identifying feature with the overall usability
seamlessly fitting with the buildings irregularity of geometry. The use of non–rectilinear shapes
allow for the shape to question the laws of physics yet simultaneously follow them in order to create
a structure that is atypical to the standard polygonal shape.
In contrast postmodernist structures – such as the Cube Tube by SAKO Architects – adhere to the
norms of

Artificial Intelligence ( Unmanned Aerial Vehicle ) Essay
Within the construction industry, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is beginning to take jobsites by storm. If
someone were to walk onto a jobsite today, someone in that location would be using AI. Current
uses of AI today span from mobile technology that supervision uses to man a jobsite to an actual
robot pouring concrete or welding a pipe. With the technology improvements being made daily,
there will be a day few people will consist of the workforce on the job, and the rest will be some sort
of robotics. Among the Artificial Intelligence being used or that will be the future are: Drones/UAV
(Unmanned Aerial Vehicle), SAM (Semi–Automated Mason), robotic welding, Autonomous TMA
(Truck Mounted Attenuator) Truck, and Contour Crafting.
Drones/UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) A lot of people may think of drones, also known as UAV
(Unmanned Aerial Vehicle), as the toys children play with in the yard after opening their Christmas
gifts, but for the construction industry, it means so much more. Drones are capable of a multitude of
things, and for business owner's and clients, the most important thing is getting the job done sooner
with reduced costs. Previously, layouts of jobsites took weeks. The land had to be surveyed to verify
if the soil was appropriate and whether it needed to be graded or not. Areas had to be marked off
where each trade would store their material. Physical surveying of the area with tripods had to be
done, as well, for the specific layout and placement of the

Relation Between Architecture And The Environment.this...
An architect cannot build a consistent and stable structure without knowing the relationship between
architecture and the environment. This topic should be discussed on various angles. One of them is
the aesthetical point of view, and the other is the human intervention in nature. The former is
essentially an artistic debate and a generic timeless topic since the beginning of architectural
practices. The other one is a more contemporary issue. In a broader aspect, this topic isn't only the
architect 's interest, but also is an issue of engineers, scientists and even social scientist 's; and yet it
can even extend to global warming concerns. For this reason, let us firstly start and find out the most
current dispute entitled as human intervention in nature.
Humans since their very first existence have been in a big struggle against the nature. However, they
shape the nature to suffice their needs and in essence adapt themselves accordingly into the
conditions given by the Mother Nature. Over time nature has resisted to this human endeavor in
every possible way it can and tried not to surrender humans. No matter how strong this resistance is;

1.1 Introduction
Like the five blind men encountering different parts of an elephant, each of the numerous
participants in the process of planning, designing, financing, constructing and operating physical
facilities has a different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From the viewpoint of project management, the terms "owner" and "sponsor" are synonymous
because both have the ultimate authority to make all important decisions. Since an owner is
essentially acquiring a facility on a promise in some form of agreement, it will be wise for any
owner to have a clear understanding of the acquisition process in order to maintain firm control of
the quality, timeliness and cost of the completed facility.
From the perspective of an owner, the project life cycle for a constructed facility may be illustrated
schematically in Figure 1–1. Essentially, a project is conceived to meet market demands or needs in
a timely fashion. Various possibilities may be considered in the conceptual planning stage, and the
technological and economic feasibility of each alternative will be assessed and compared in order to
select the best possible project. The financing schemes for the proposed alternatives must also be
examined, and the project will be programmed with respect to the timing for its completion and for
available cash flows. After the scope of the project is clearly defined, detailed engineering design
will provide the blueprint for construction, and the definitive cost estimate will serve as the baseline
for cost control. In the procurement and construction stage, the

Is Thailand A Wonderful Country?
So you have fallen in love with Thailand? Like so many others before you, and the thousands that
will follow? For whatever reason, you have chosen to own a property in Thailand? This could be for
the long term prospect of making this wonderful country your permanent home, or as a potential
investment, and/or for the pleasure of having a luxury holiday home in the sun. Whatever the reason,
there are certain things you need to consider before jumping head–first into a purchase.
Naturally, what seems like a great idea at the time can often change after a full investigation of the
pro 's and cons? There is certainly no reason not to consider such a purchase, but like any property
deal back in Europe or the USA, it is advisable to carry out due diligence beforehand. Find out the
facts before you sign anything, and be sure you have covered everything before you proceed.
Thailand is a wonderful country with some beautiful beaches, an amazing climate and a very laid
back approach to life. All very appealing to the foreigner just off the plane from their stressful
lifestyles back in Europe or the USA. But before you sign on the dotted line of a contract, please
ensure all the necessary due diligence has been carried out, as it would have been back home.
Always seek professional legal advice and get a qualified registered lawyer
The first and probably most important decision you will make is to talk to a Thai registered,
qualified lawyer who is respected and/or has been highly

Why The Prodigy Artist Is Intrigued By Them
Question 2 Leung Ka Ho (s1659467)
RAPHAEL, LETTER TO POPE LEO X, ARCHITECTURAL DRAWINGS:
WHY THE PRODIGY PAINTER IS INTRIGUED BY THEM
Architectural drawings, despite its many crude forms, has existed long before the time of the Italian
painter–architect Raphael Sanzio da Urbino. Nevertheless, with reference to Wolfgang Lotz, the
prodigy painter's letter to Pope Leo X has been regarded as the trailblazer of "the rendering of
interior in architectural drawings". Such fundamental foundations to architectural drawings are in
fact the collaborative work of Raphael and several individuals, more specifically intimate friend
humanist Baldassare Castiglione, translator of Vitruvius' De Architectura Fabio Calvo and teams of
scholars due to his inept expression through literal means. As a result, at least three versions of the
letter are created (in chronological order of the date of publication or discovery) : a now–lost
manuscript owned by Scipione Maffei in a collection of works of Baldassare Castiglione published
by the Giovanni Antonio and Gaetano Volpi in Padua (1733); a Munich manuscript published in
1847; and a draft with the first parts of the letter that could decipher the complete text surfaced in
the Castiglione family archives in Mantua and later published in 1910. The letter sets up the
rudimentary foundations for architectural drawings to flourish and its significance is twofold: to
depict Renaissance

What Does The Appalachian Mountain And The Teatro Olimpico?
What does the Appalachian Mountain and the Teatro Olimpico have in common? They are the oldest
surviving of its kind. The Teatro Olimpico. Located in Vicenza, Italy, it is the oldest theatre
surviving from the Renaissance. Designed by architect Andrea Palladio, its construction started in
1580 and took five years to create. It was designed as a miniature indoor Roman theatre that can fit
up to 3,000 people. This theatre had a lot of unique features that exuded Italian Renaissance. The
stage was raised about 70 feet by 18 feet deep in front of the scaena, or stage house. The stage had
five alleyways leading up to it. Down each alleyway, there were small models of buildings to give
the illusion of disappearing perspective. With many more luxury to the eye that dwell upon this
theater and 431 years of legacy, of course a tremendous amount of hard work goes into its upkeep. I
am reviewing the restoration of this monument in 1755 and beyond. I will investigate the restoration
of the Teatro Olimpico by discussing the reasons for reconstructions, the process of the
reconstruction and process of upkeep in the present day. On April 23, 1755, members of the
Accademia Olimpica of Vicenza congregated within their venerable theater, the Teatro Olimpico, to
discuss the restoration of the buildings ceiling. Even though the ceiling had been restored twenty–
two years prior to the date, the low grade of lumber used for it had been exposed to a great amount
of rainwater and it began to

The main point of this project is to find out the reason why accidents are still happening on
construction in relation to Construction (Design and Management) [CDM] regulations. These
Regulations originally came in to place in 1994 and then were heavily revised in 2007 when the
regulations were brought together with the Construction (Health Safety and Welfare) Regulations
1996. The purpose of this review is to both further understand the CDM Regulations and investigate
why accidents in construction are still occurring by looking at the following possibilities: Are the
Regulations being understood? Are the Regulations being followed? Are the Regulations being
enforced? Are workers taking responsibility for their actions? This project will focus on Glasgow
based construction projects purely due time constraints and practicality issues and looking at the
regulations for contractors. . According to HSE (2013)

Why Are Great Italian Renaissance Architects More Famous...
Why are great Italian Renaissance architects more famous than their great Gothic predecessors?
Discuss how and why the role and image of the architect changed during the Italian Renaissance.
"The Renaissance is studded by the names of the artists and architects, with their creations recorded
as great historical events." – Arthur Erickson
The end of the 14th century was the birth of Renaissance, which meant that Gothic architecture
began to wear off. The Renaissance period spread out across Europe. Along with the changes in
politics, beliefs, and ways of life, architecture and architects were also changing. A group of Italian
academics, some of whom were amateur architects, influenced the birth of Renaissance architecture.
Many renaissance buildings have murals and statues because artists and architects started working

The architects of this period solved the problems of heavy roof with few brilliant innovations such
as the flying buttress (a semi–arch), piers, etc. The result was amazing: cathedrals could be higher,
thinner, and could have more windows, which led to brighter interiors. In my opinion, this was a
good base to start producing something more magnificent, more interesting, and other types of
architecture, besides just cathedrals.
Architects of the Renaissance period designed a large spectrum of civil structures like palaces,
libraries, villas, fountains, hospitals, bridges, etc. They built urban spaces which looked magnificent
and also a little frightening. The facade gives us a hint of what is happening inside: an enormous
central door indicates power, stonework shows strength, marble shows wealth, and so on. One of the
most recognizable features of Renaissance buildings is elegant interior courtyards surrounded by
two tiers of rounded arcades. One such example of a Renaissance building is the Florence cathedral,
designed by Filippo

Renzo Piano As AApproach To Architecture
Renzo Piano was born September 14, 1937 in Genoa, Italy, To a family of Genoese builders. He
graduated from the school of Architecture, Milan Polytechnic in 1964. He later expressed
dissatisfaction with the academic approach to architecture, describing it as "without rebellion".
During his studies he was working under the guidance of Franco Albini, his spare time was spent
working steadily at his fathers construction company. This is where he developed an inspiring love
for the architecture. After graduation, he was initially employed by his father's construction company
before collaborating with Louis Kahn in the United States and Z.S. Makowsky in the United
Kingdom. Between the years 1965 and 1970 he worked with many great artists, but the most

This building was designed to house some of the worlds most exquisite modern art, so naturally the
design had to be modern. It is constructed mostly of high–tech steel and glass, with a beautifully
designed exoskeleton adding to its complexion (Renzo Piano Building Workshop Official Site).
Renzo Piano has designed and brought to life so many structures all over the world. Some of his
most famous include Kansai, the world's largest air terminal in Osaka Bay, Japan, where Piano
proved himself a master of the gigantic project and again with the imposing Bercy Shopping Center
in Paris, as well as a massive and beautiful National Science Museum in Amsterdam. His soccer
stadium in Bari, Italy is like no other in the world, with its great swaths of blue sky interrupting the
usual monotony of stadium seating. His versatility is displayed further in such projects as the
beautiful sweep of a nearly one thousand foot long bridge that curves across Ushibuka Bay in
Southern Japan, with the design of a 70,000–ton luxury ocean liner (Great Buildings On–line). In
1998 Piano was selected as the Laureate of the Pritzker Architecture

How were the costs determined for this project?
Under the Mott Stadium Consortium, Cost Consultants Franklin & Andrews were formally engaged
in 1999 at the commencement of the concept phase. The engagement of the design team was funded
by a portion of the lotteries grant to the value of £14 million which contributed to project planning
and design work.
Working closely with the design team, the Cost Consultants developed their cost plan based on the
evolving design to enable the Client to ensure that the capital expenditure on the project represented
value for money, sustainability of the built environment and the delivery of a sustainable business
both financially and operationally (Radley Yeldar, 2014).
What types / categories of costs were associated with this project (operational or capital funding,

Architect : An Artist Of The Modern World
Architect: An Artist of the Modern World
Ever wonder what it's like to be an architect? With skills like drawing and math it could be
something worth doing. Having the ability to write for long periods and stay inside all day sitting
aren't bad traits to have either. Why wonder what it's like to be an architect when one can be an
architect? With some different skills that can easily be obtained, some schooling, and There are
different tasks that an architect will have to do and different skills that one needs to be an architect.
On a typical day of work an architect will be required to create blue prints for a client for
construction. Skills for this are ones such as drawling for the creation of blue prints. Classes in
school to be taken are ones like an art class for drawling and there are blue print drawling classes
that can be taken. Skills like being able to measure precisely are also something that an architect
needs. Classes for this are ones like a math class that have to do with measuring. Being able to make
precis measurements and directions for the construction workers to follow is important. Key skills
needed are ones like blue print drawling, making precis measurements for workers to follow, being
able to write for long periods of time, and staying indoors for most of the day. There are not many
hazards that come with the job of an architect. Getting a cramp in the hand from writing to much is
hardly a hazard of work. One of the only hazards there is in being

Global Pollution
al Explain four different forms of global pollution that may arise from a construction project and
explain four key methods used to protect the natural environment against such pollutants
Environmental Pollution Construction Sites
Construction sites are found both within urban and rural areas, often in the close proximity of
homes. Due to their proximity to homes and the materials used, construction sites may generate
home pollution. This involves air, water, soil, and/or noise pollution. Additionally, construction work
may reveal existing subsurface pollution. In such situation, construction work is stopped and costly
remediation is needed. Thus, construction work may generate construction pollution problems
affecting both home owners ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Road construction pollution – represents the generation of construction contamination at sites where
roads are built
Construction Pollution Prevention and Cost Recovery * Personal damage. From the perspective of
the public, the best prevention is to spend as little time as possible outside (e.g., in your yard or
balcony) close to a construction site during operation time. Additionally, having a rich vegetation
around your home (and between the home and the construction site) will act as a natural filter for the
generated pollution, reducing the amount of pollution you may come in contact with. So, planting in
your yards or even pot plants in a balcony can help. The greener the better. Also, regular spraying of
water around the home will reduce the amount of dust and exposure through inhalation, although the
soil and water pollution may increase (but these are less directly affecting you than air!). However,
if you believe you are already negatively impacted by a construction site in the vicinity, especially if
you have been recently diagnosed with a medical condition involving the respiratory system, you
may be entitled to compensation. Evaluate your pollution case for free. * Property damage. From the
perspective of the construction site owner / developer, you may be faced with building on polluted
land

Filippo Brunelleschi : An Italian Architect And Engineer
Filippo Brunelleschi Historical Report – By Kristy C
Biography:
Filippo Brunelleschi (1377–1446) was an Italian architect and engineer who was born in the city of
Florence, Italy. He is regarded as a leading figure in the field of architecture and engineering during
the Italian Renaissance period. Brunelleschi 's significant and major achievements include
rediscovering linear perspective which was lost during the Middle Ages, constructing the dome of
the cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore (or the Florence Cathedral), and creating new machines like
the modern day skycrane which enabled to placement of bricks and other building materials with
increased precision. He also contributed to the future of architecture by proposing original ideas
which revolutionised people 's way of building things and how the world viewed engineering
forever.
Brunelleschi 's father was a prominent lawyer, and so Brunelleschi underwent an intense schooling
of literature and mathematics to follow his father 's footsteps as a civil servant, but eventually
decided he wanted to become an artist and so join the silk merchant 's guild (an art school). There,
he was trained as a sculptor and goldsmith at first, but he then turned to focus on architecture after
encountering a setback from when he did not win a designing competition for the bronze doors of
the Florence Baptistery.
During his time as a goldsmith, Brunelleschi mastered drawing, painting, wood carving, sculpture

▪ Any kind of improper practices by the professionals is prohibited. ▪ The hiring of a contractor is
done by conducting bidding for the completion of the project on a set price. ▪ The hiring of the
contractor does not include any kind of competitive bidding due to which, special legislations are
essential to be considered in the hiring process (Understanding Project Delivery for the Design and
Construction of Public Buildings). This way, several issues arise during the process of hiring or
contracting the design professional in the given economic landscape. These issues include ethical,
financial, legal and some general as per the above discussion. According to the personal observation,
the effective coordination with all these issues is essential for an individual to have the delivery of

The Bim Capabilities And Bim Maturity Level
Project: To assess the BIM capabilities and BIM Maturity Level. Having established exiting BIM
maturity level, propose measures for achieving level 2 BIM by 2016.
According to the Government Construction Strategy document in 2011, the "Government will
require fully collaborative Level 2 3D BIM (with all project and asset information, documentation
and data being electronic) as a mini¬¬¬¬¬mum by 2016."
For the three weeks I am working at the London Bridge office of Jacob's, I intend to:
Understand exactly what BIM is and the basic criteria for each BIM level.
Evaluate where Jacob's is in relation to these BIM levels.
Suggest improvements as to how Jacob's can reach the Government's target by 2016.
The use of level 2 BIM in all public sector construction work is imperative as it affects everybody
on a day to day basis. Using BIM software will not only reduce the amount of time spent at the
construction site, but it will also reduce costs due to errors. One of the current projects Jacob's is
working on using BIM software is the Crossrail (Europe's largest construction project). This will
"increase London 's rail capacity by 10 per cent and bring 1.5 million new commuters", not to
mention bringing an estimated 42 billion to the UK economy and creating 30,000 jobs. Due to the
use of some aspects of BIM, the process of creating the Crossrail will not only be faster and more
efficient but will also help the UK's economy.

The majority of the tower is allocated primarily for office space, totalling in 442,928 Sq Ft. The
Offices are principally divided into groups of three floors to form relatively small office villages of
approximately 35,000 Sq Ft each. It is expected that in total the offices will house 20–25 tenants
who will use the premises as their major representative offices for the UK. The renting of the offices
has a certain degree of flexibility, designed to be let floor by floor, as well as village by village.
Levels 38–40 contain a luxurious sky bar and restaurant overlooking the city rooftops. This has huge
appeal and is a spectacular and exclusive option for the wealthy, high flying businessmen who enjoy
splashing a bit of cash. At the base of the tower there are three basement levels for retail, parking,
storage and management services. The site is in an inner city area, free space is sparse and
commercial business competitive. (The Heron Tower, 2010, [online] available at

Giancarlo De Carlo, An Italian Architect

  • 1. Giancarlo De Carlo, An Italian Architect Giancarlo De Carlo was an Italian Architect. He wasn't known as an architect until the 1940s, but rather a writer and a teacher. He trained as an architect in the 1940s, which was during the Second World War, leading him to generate his philosophy towards life and architecture but he did not start building until the 1950s. He was a founding member of Team X, Team X was a group of architects that formed at the 9th congress of CIAM (Congrès International d 'Architecture Moderne). Their aim was to reassess the role and function of architecture, paying attention to rebuilding built environments and their surrounding social and natural conditions. Famous works by De Carlo include 'The Magistero' at Urbino, 1968–76, 'Collegio del Colle' at Urbino, 1962–66 and 'Faculty of Economics' at University of Urbino, 1986–99. De Carlo has strong opinions about Modernism Movement; he often critiques the Modern Movement. He sees that the Modern Movement was an opportunity wasted, as he had written a number of articles regarding Modern Architecture. Modernism was a radical movement that first emerged in the early 20th century, but was not popular till after the Second World War. During the 1970s, many architects began to notice the increasing failures of the Modern Movement. De Carlo has a lot of criticism towards the Modern Movement. Though he believes that the aims of the Modern Movement were correct and valuable, they failed to deliver to the users, they had failed to provide architecture ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Components Of Integrated Project Delivery What is Integrated Project Design? There are many different business structures in place which businesses around the world are using today. One of these business structures, used in the design and construction industry, is called Integrated Project Delivery. Integrated Project Delivery is a business style which incorporates all aspects of design throughout the entire design process. This includes, but is not limited to, all participants, business coordination's, and business systems, and the way they interact with the specialties of the participants, in turn producing fluidity within the design and a highly effective final product. The main players within IPD are owners, architect, contractors, designers, sub– contractors, consultants and suppliers. Collaboration is key within Integrated Project Delivery (4). In order to create this type of building structure all parties involved must be willing to collaborate. When this happens the result creates an open, shared business model where no information is hidden or lost in communication. This lessens the instance of becoming fragmented and disconnected. Early involvement of all participants from owner to supplier produces a mutual understanding of the goal and outcome of the design and leaves everyone with an equal understanding of the project. At this point in IPD mutual trust can be gained as well as mutual benefit while understanding everyone's role in the process. Team building is another major part of IPD. Under each main ... • 7. The Impact Of Social Media On The Workplace Building Relationships This experience is the first time I have been introduced to professional relationships. I took the time to set up a LinkedIn account. It always brings a smile to my face when a subcontractor requests to connect with me. I believe that social media outlets such as LinkedIn give professionals an opportunity to keep up with each other 's successes. The lowest level relationship I have built is with the field workers from our concrete subcontractors. I have enjoyed getting to know them and hearing how they got to Texas. One of the workers was born and raised in California. He recently heard about how strong the economy was in Houston, so he packed everything up and moved here. Another worker was born in Mexico and just recently became an American citizen. He is enrolled night classes to strengthen his speaking skills. I have a tremendous amount of respect for the men who work in the field. The highest level relationship I have built is with the chief executive officer of Linbeck. I believe it says a lot about a company when even the highest levels of leadership are able to recognize your face and call you by name. I am proud to be a part of a company who values the idea of being a family. I believe the most important relationship I have established outside of Linbeck is with project managers from the various trades. These men and women have taught me so much about the specifics of their work. Whether I am talking to the specialty or electrical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Can Critical Regionalism Counteract The Impact Of... Can Critical Regionalism counteract the impact of Globalisation on our cities? In the era of constant networking and relaying of information, the world has become a much smaller place. The shrinking world has somewhat become a familiar spectacle of identical fads and lifestyles. At least in the developed countries, globalisation has given birth to homogenous consumer culture. Demonstrated not only by the expansion of multi–national cooperations such as Apple and Starbucks but also by the indistinct architecture. It is a common sighting in urban cities today to see the identical steel, concrete and glass structures. This occurrence might be innate due to the easy exportation of concepts and architects, however not obligatory. Whilst advancing towards a modern society, architects have adapted this "universal style" of architecture that fails to represent the unique topography of different cities. Architects have the choice to either "repeat the same building everywhere or to push ourselves forward, to create an encounter between ourselves and the local culture" (Koolhaas, 2012). If the notion of Critical Regionalism were to be practiced by architects through the integration of the local culture with modern techniques, it could potentially return the missing identities of these cities. Critical Regionalism was devised during the early 20th century, as an attempt to reject the monotony developed by the International Style and the purposeless ornamentation utilised by ... The formula to calculate the unit cost is: Unit Cost = As–Built Construction Cost / Size of the Facility in SF The mean unit cost values of the projects ranged from approximately $100/SF to $400/SF, and the comparison clearly depicts that using the Bridging method of project delivery has given the lowest mean cost in comparison to other project delivery systems. ii. Outline Of A Proposal Outline Memo Date: April 10, 2015 To: Amanda Rico, Instructor: English 210 Section 581 From: Jared Glenn Subject: MWP 2 Outline of Report Completion Purpose The purpose of this memo is to provide an outline of the topics I plan to conduct further research on and compile that research in a formalized report over the specifics of those topics. The final result will be a proposed program, backed with modern research sourcing, ready for completion. Introduction In reference to my last memo, I discussed plans to make alterations to Francis Hall, a newly renovated building on the Texas A&M Campus for the Construction Science Department and student. Specifically, the first task is survey to compile major courses of action, followed by compiling a proposal in conjunction with a general contractor for consideration by the Board of Regents. The original renovation had a budget of 5 million dollars, which included classrooms, a computer lab, student lounge, lavatories, and staff offices. The renovation is suitable for the current status of Construction Science; however the growing program will soon outgrow the building. For these reasons, I am writing a follow up memo of the topics to be included in my upcoming researched recommendation report. Tasks to be Researched With approval to conduct research on my proposed tasks, I will begin by restating each task from the original memo, followed by the subtasks I will research for each main task. Main Task 1. Research student opinion, and popular ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. The British Architects Of The 20th Century INTRODUCTION Born on September 8, 1914, Sir Denys Louis Lasdun is considered among the most distinguished British architects of the 20th century. He is credited with having contributed to London's urban landscape. Among the works for which he is best known are the Royal National Theatre at London's South Banks of the Thames, the European Investment Bank in Luxembourg, the Royal College of Physicians in Regent 's Park and the University of East Anglia. The others of Lasdun's buildings were a building at 32 Newton Road, Paddington, Hallfield Primary School, Usk Street Housing, Keeling House and the Sports Centre at the University of Liverpool. Considering how eminent these landmark buildings are in London's landscape, it is apparent that Lasdun was a much–sough architect, especially by the British government as well as the local authorities. Lasdun's architecture falls under the Brutalist architecture of the United Kingdom under which many prominent 20th century British and European architects worked. Among the architects that worked under Brutalism and had great influence on Lasdun's architecture were Le Corbusier, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and Nicholas Hawksmoor. Lasdun's fame as a world class architect could be largely attributed to the fact that his architecture spanned the whole era of modernism in British art. It is often asserted that Lasdun's architecture was derived from and driven by his boredom with the sameness or identicalness of English architecture and the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. Is Girl Education A Natural Choice For My Life? "We must free ourselves of the hope that the sea will ever rest. We must learn to sail in high winds."– were the words guiding my life throughout. I was born in the surrounding where girl education was given least preference. I was very fortunate to have parents who were both traditional and progressive at the same time. Where on one hand, my father toiled, struggled and strived to earn enough to educate us, resolute efforts of my mother towards her life goal to educate her children, is indelible. The journey from small town to Delhi Public School, Patna took a lot of hard work and patience. I was a bright and intelligent student since childhood. Never did I fail to score highest in mathematics in my school days. My interest in Mathematics and Physics made science a natural choice for my graduation. Also, lately I scored 170/170 in the quantitative section of the GRE, which re–ascertains my acumen for technical subjects. On one hand, when my parents were transcending social convention by educating a girl child, on the other, they had to face financial crunch situations. Introduction The final internship report is a way to reflect on your overall assessment on how you taken the prior education of construction management, and applied it towards an internship. As well as expressing new experiences that happened during the internship that school courses did not prepare you for or not taught yet. These topics are covered by explaining the primary task that was performed throughout the internship, and how technology was utilized in completing the responsibilities. While performing these activities, how did they enhance your communication skills and public speaking abilities. During the period of the internship, in what way were legal and ethical issues brought up, and what lessons were learned to prevent future encounters. Internship Orientation and Preparation Before going through orientation, I reported to the main office to go through a background check, because I would be working on a school. Following the background check I needed to complete a physical exam, and a drug test. Once my company received notification that I passed, I was scheduled for orientation. During orientation, I went through multiple presentations, and ended with a safety exam to give me authorization to work on the jobsite. Before reporting to orientation, I would recommend researching your company and be able to recognize, and know the names of all upper management employees. • 25. The Architects Of Their Own Downfall Please excuse the cliché here, but architects are; the architects of their own downfall. August Schmarsow likens the role of the architect as similar to a conductor in an orchestra. 'The conductors of space'. A quite romantic notion, but why has the trust diminished between client and architect? In the UK, for example, most clients are now seeking developers rather than employ an architect. To which there is certain logic, why employ an external body who will not only cost more, but may start to deploy their own ideas onto the scheme? Surely the client calls the shots because of their larger wallet? Here in lies the problem. Developers, Town Planners and Surveyors are all 'number based' professions, a series of calculations dictating spatial qualities and aesthetic appeal. How many bedrooms can we fit in, what is the cost of the project, what kind of profits can we make? All questions that the client will be more than content with when dealing with said professions. The architect is seen as the 'rebel' of the building profession; forever pushing limits to design, aesthetics, engineering and spatial quality. The architect brings a unique quality to the design team, a consideration for all aspects. Be that of scale, cost, materiality, spatial, detailing, servicing, romantics, social implications, theoretical aspirations. The list goes on and on. But this is the point; it is this 'wide' consideration that makes the architect a 'disposable' and superfluous piece of the design ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When launched, sales of KONE's Monospace was the highest in Netherlands, then France and in UK none was sold in the first 3 months. Monospace is an elevator invented by KONE using the latest technology that uses an "EcoDisc" that eliminates the use of a machine room and further incur significant energy cost savings for the building management. It is an upgraded version for geared traction elevators. There is more construction freedom and construction costs could be saved using Monospace too. The space saved could be used for other revenue generating activities which will further please clients. Without building an extra machine room also saves some construction costs. Construction players are normally tight on budget, the savings gives them flexibility to adjust their profits. In addition, changing to Monospace requires minimal changes of their original architectural designs. 2. Energy efficiency As mentioned in the case, the construction boom has ended and there are at most 26% of existing buildings have a chance of upgrading to Monospace. This point would be important to existing building managements as their monthly cost could be reduced substantially if they upgrade to Monospace elevators. Monospace consumes a third of energy a hydraulic elevator consumes and half of what a geared traction elevator consumes. Its speed is also at 1 mtr/s similar to a geared traction elevator. These monthly savings can be seen on the bills and they add up to a substantial amount annually. For construction managers and architects, this value could be used to impress clients. 3. Lower fire potential Monospace elevators unlike hydraulic and geared traction elevators, do not require oil for operation. It reduces fire potential which is a great problem for residential areas. Journal of social and behavioral sciences, 110, pp.777–786 Mitkus, T.and Mitkus, S. are the authors of this paper. The paper was published by Elsevier in 2014. Construction conflicts reduce the profits and also have a huge influence on stakeholders' investments. However, Yiu and Cheung (2006) state that construction conflicts sometimes are inevitable because there are a lot of people take part in the construction project. The authors of this article assume that the main cause of the construction conflicts is ineffective communication between the participants. The aim of this article is to test the assumption. In this paper, the analysis is mainly focused on the conflicts between the participants who directly take part in the construction project. The conflict and dispute are two distinct concepts. Acharya and Lee (2006) have proposed a risk, conflict, claim and dispute continuum model. It introduces that if risks cannot be clearly assigned will lead to conflicts. Conflicts cannot be clearly managed will cause claims. If claims cannot be clearly resolved will lead to dispute. Sarat (1984) first introduced a dispute pyramid, which is an effective tool to analyze the disputes. Acharya and Lee (2006) classified the causes of construction conflict into five types. Conflicts may be caused by owner, consultant, contractor, third party and other participants. And ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 35. Role of the Quantity Surveyor The Role of the Quantity Surveying Profession The origins of the Quantity Surveyor (QS) profession can dated back during the 19th century where from the earlier "measurer", a specialist tradesman, who readied schedules for a building project in which all of the construction materials and labour activities and were quantified. Based on this information, competing builders could submit priced tenders. Because all tenders were based on the same schedule of information, they could be easily compared to one another, making it a much simpler way of being able to chose the best bid as it narrowed the variables down (Powell, 1996). Modern day 'starchitects' who – through their practice of deconstructivist architecture – have heavily influenced the overall approach to today's architecture. But what exactly is deconstructivist architecture? Is it a derivative of postmodernist principles, or something of its own entirety? Through the analysis of particular modern day architects and their works, deconstructivism ascertains its emergence as a separate architectural form that contrasts with and challenges postmodern design principles. Deconstructivism can be characterised as an external design principle developed and evolved from postmodernist architecture. Deriving its philosophy from the works of controversial ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Deconstructivist architecture is more often than not perceived to be an extension of postmodernist design principles. However, through the works of modern day architects such as Zaha Hadid and Daniel Liebeskind, deconstructivist architecture separates itself from postmodernism via structural geometry and physicality. Postmodernist architecture concerns itself with the usability of a structure first and foremost – with the building's aestheticism becoming an afterthought. This heavily contrasts with the philosophy of deconstructivism, as the structure's appearance takes primary focus. This deconstructivist philosophy is represented in Zaha Hadid's Beko Building. The structural properties of the building defy the architectural norm through the randomness of the building's shape. As is displayed in the building's site plan the structure takes on an irregular 'water–droplet' form – comprised of multiple layers and storeys– that highlight the importance of form rather than function. The building focuses on its envelope as the structure's identifying feature with the overall usability seamlessly fitting with the buildings irregularity of geometry. The use of non–rectilinear shapes allow for the shape to question the laws of physics yet simultaneously follow them in order to create a structure that is atypical to the standard polygonal shape. In contrast postmodernist structures – such as the Cube Tube by SAKO Architects – adhere to the norms of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 39. Artificial Intelligence ( Unmanned Aerial Vehicle ) Essay Within the construction industry, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is beginning to take jobsites by storm. If someone were to walk onto a jobsite today, someone in that location would be using AI. Current uses of AI today span from mobile technology that supervision uses to man a jobsite to an actual robot pouring concrete or welding a pipe. With the technology improvements being made daily, there will be a day few people will consist of the workforce on the job, and the rest will be some sort of robotics. Among the Artificial Intelligence being used or that will be the future are: Drones/UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle), SAM (Semi–Automated Mason), robotic welding, Autonomous TMA (Truck Mounted Attenuator) Truck, and Contour Crafting. Drones/UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) A lot of people may think of drones, also known as UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle), as the toys children play with in the yard after opening their Christmas gifts, but for the construction industry, it means so much more. Drones are capable of a multitude of things, and for business owner's and clients, the most important thing is getting the job done sooner with reduced costs. Previously, layouts of jobsites took weeks. The land had to be surveyed to verify if the soil was appropriate and whether it needed to be graded or not. Areas had to be marked off where each trade would store their material. Physical surveying of the area with tripods had to be done, as well, for the specific layout and placement of the ... An architect cannot build a consistent and stable structure without knowing the relationship between architecture and the environment. This topic should be discussed on various angles. One of them is the aesthetical point of view, and the other is the human intervention in nature. The former is essentially an artistic debate and a generic timeless topic since the beginning of architectural practices. The other one is a more contemporary issue. In a broader aspect, this topic isn't only the architect 's interest, but also is an issue of engineers, scientists and even social scientist 's; and yet it can even extend to global warming concerns. For this reason, let us firstly start and find out the most current dispute entitled as human intervention in nature. Humans since their very first existence have been in a big struggle against the nature. However, they shape the nature to suffice their needs and in essence adapt themselves accordingly into the conditions given by the Mother Nature. Over time nature has resisted to this human endeavor in every possible way it can and tried not to surrender humans. No matter how strong this resistance is; humans somehow found a way to break it down with their inborn skills that they managed to develop in time. This can be regarded as a seamless dance between these two enormous forces. As the nature manifested itself as an obstacle where humans accomplished to push it away, this struggle shaped the way in which humans developed a way of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Since an owner is essentially acquiring a facility on a promise in some form of agreement, it will be wise for any owner to have a clear understanding of the acquisition process in order to maintain firm control of the quality, timeliness and cost of the completed facility. From the perspective of an owner, the project life cycle for a constructed facility may be illustrated schematically in Figure 1–1. Essentially, a project is conceived to meet market demands or needs in a timely fashion. Various possibilities may be considered in the conceptual planning stage, and the technological and economic feasibility of each alternative will be assessed and compared in order to select the best possible project. The financing schemes for the proposed alternatives must also be examined, and the project will be programmed with respect to the timing for its completion and for available cash flows. Why The Prodigy Artist Is Intrigued By Them Question 2 Leung Ka Ho (s1659467) RAPHAEL, LETTER TO POPE LEO X, ARCHITECTURAL DRAWINGS: WHY THE PRODIGY PAINTER IS INTRIGUED BY THEM Architectural drawings, despite its many crude forms, has existed long before the time of the Italian painter–architect Raphael Sanzio da Urbino. Nevertheless, with reference to Wolfgang Lotz, the prodigy painter's letter to Pope Leo X has been regarded as the trailblazer of "the rendering of interior in architectural drawings". Such fundamental foundations to architectural drawings are in fact the collaborative work of Raphael and several individuals, more specifically intimate friend humanist Baldassare Castiglione, translator of Vitruvius' De Architectura Fabio Calvo and teams of scholars due to his inept expression through literal means. As a result, at least three versions of the letter are created (in chronological order of the date of publication or discovery) : a now–lost manuscript owned by Scipione Maffei in a collection of works of Baldassare Castiglione published by the Giovanni Antonio and Gaetano Volpi in Padua (1733); a Munich manuscript published in 1847; and a draft with the first parts of the letter that could decipher the complete text surfaced in the Castiglione family archives in Mantua and later published in 1910. The Teatro Olimpico. Located in Vicenza, Italy, it is the oldest theatre surviving from the Renaissance. Designed by architect Andrea Palladio, its construction started in 1580 and took five years to create. It was designed as a miniature indoor Roman theatre that can fit up to 3,000 people. This theatre had a lot of unique features that exuded Italian Renaissance. The stage was raised about 70 feet by 18 feet deep in front of the scaena, or stage house. The stage had five alleyways leading up to it. Down each alleyway, there were small models of buildings to give the illusion of disappearing perspective. With many more luxury to the eye that dwell upon this theater and 431 years of legacy, of course a tremendous amount of hard work goes into its upkeep. I am reviewing the restoration of this monument in 1755 and beyond. I will investigate the restoration of the Teatro Olimpico by discussing the reasons for reconstructions, the process of the reconstruction and process of upkeep in the present day. On April 23, 1755, members of the Accademia Olimpica of Vicenza congregated within their venerable theater, the Teatro Olimpico, to discuss the restoration of the buildings ceiling. "The Renaissance is studded by the names of the artists and architects, with their creations recorded as great historical events." – Arthur Erickson The end of the 14th century was the birth of Renaissance, which meant that Gothic architecture began to wear off. The Renaissance period spread out across Europe. Along with the changes in politics, beliefs, and ways of life, architecture and architects were also changing. Architects of the Renaissance period designed a large spectrum of civil structures like palaces, libraries, villas, fountains, hospitals, bridges, etc. They built urban spaces which looked magnificent and also a little frightening. Global Pollution al Explain four different forms of global pollution that may arise from a construction project and explain four key methods used to protect the natural environment against such pollutants Environmental Pollution Construction Sites Construction sites are found both within urban and rural areas, often in the close proximity of homes. Due to their proximity to homes and the materials used, construction sites may generate home pollution. This involves air, water, soil, and/or noise pollution. Additionally, construction work may reveal existing subsurface pollution. In such situation, construction work is stopped and costly remediation is needed. Thus, construction work may generate construction pollution problems affecting both home owners ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Road construction pollution – represents the generation of construction contamination at sites where roads are built Construction Pollution Prevention and Cost Recovery * Personal damage. From the perspective of the public, the best prevention is to spend as little time as possible outside (e.g., in your yard or balcony) close to a construction site during operation time. Additionally, having a rich vegetation around your home (and between the home and the construction site) will act as a natural filter for the generated pollution, reducing the amount of pollution you may come in contact with. So, planting in your yards or even pot plants in a balcony can help. The greener the better. Also, regular spraying of water around the home will reduce the amount of dust and exposure through inhalation, although the soil and water pollution may increase (but these are less directly affecting you than air!). However, if you believe you are already negatively impacted by a construction site in the vicinity, especially if you have been recently diagnosed with a medical condition involving the respiratory system, you may be entitled to compensation. Evaluate your pollution case for free. * Property damage. From the perspective of the construction site owner / developer, you may be faced with building on polluted land ... • 76. The Bim Capabilities And Bim Maturity Level Project: To assess the BIM capabilities and BIM Maturity Level. Having established exiting BIM maturity level, propose measures for achieving level 2 BIM by 2016. According to the Government Construction Strategy document in 2011, the "Government will require fully collaborative Level 2 3D BIM (with all project and asset information, documentation and data being electronic) as a mini¬¬¬¬¬mum by 2016." For the three weeks I am working at the London Bridge office of Jacob's, I intend to: Understand exactly what BIM is and the basic criteria for each BIM level. Evaluate where Jacob's is in relation to these BIM levels. Suggest improvements as to how Jacob's can reach the Government's target by 2016. The use of level 2 BIM in all public sector construction work is imperative as it affects everybody on a day to day basis. Using BIM software will not only reduce the amount of time spent at the construction site, but it will also reduce costs due to errors. One of the current projects Jacob's is working on using BIM software is the Crossrail (Europe's largest construction project). This will "increase London 's rail capacity by 10 per cent and bring 1.5 million new commuters", not to mention bringing an estimated 42 billion to the UK economy and creating 30,000 jobs. Due to the use of some aspects of BIM, the process of creating the Crossrail will not only be faster and more efficient but will also help the UK's economy. 1) Selection of Approach How do I undertake this ...
