Personal Demons Research Paper
I view my personal demons as, well just that, demons. I do not view them as the beautiful, mythical
creatures that dragons are. My personal demons destroy me daily but I still fight everyday against
them. Demons, in my mind, are creatures that destroy your will, mind, spirit and break you down
slowly also they feed your mind thoughts and make you start to believe that they are true. My
demons come in forms of depression and anxiety. They make it were I do not want to get out of bed,
were the only refuge is my room. I do things to battle them daily, how I do that is by doing things I
know will make me happy such as drawing and listening to music or even just being in the company
of people who I cherish and love. However, sometimes those things

confusion among the enemy; in which Joshua sung and used trumpets to destroy the great city of
Jericho; another example of faith winning over evil includes David fighting Goliath with a
slingshot. All such examples taught us lessons that there is no way we can win over evil without the
help of God. According to an author Jason Jackson, Spiritual Warfare is real, difficult, and
dangerous for us. We are in the fight of our lives. Ignoring ourselves from all sorts of beliefs will not
turn this big problem down. We need to be strong and take charge of it as Christians. The followers
of Christ have clearly stated the spiritual warfare in the Bible as dangerous. For Instance, Peter
warns "Be sober–minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion,
seeking someone to devour" (1 Peter 5:8). "Our adversary or enemy, the devil, refers to Satan, who
is a real entity, not a mythical creature or invention. Other titles of Satan include the tempter "(1
Thessalonians 3:5), "the wicked one" (Matthew 13:19, 38), and "the accuser of the brethren"
(Revelation 12:10). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Here, Paul states that Christians battle against the devil's schemes and that this is a spiritual battle,
not a physical one. Paul further describes the warfare in which we are engaged as we battle
throughout our lives "against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this
present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places" (Ephesians 6:12).
Clearly, such powers

A Biblical Study of Spiritual Gift of Tongues Essay
Continuists argue that the spiritual gift of tongues still continue today. To understand this fully, we
need to remind ourselves of the primary purpose of the spiritual gifts and the spiritual gift of
speaking in tongues. Donald W. Burdick refutes the argument of the cessationists using I
Corinthians 13:8. According to him, "we must notice, however, that this verse does not say that
tongues were to cease at the end of the apostolic age." However, he also concluded that healings,
tongues, interpretation of tongues, prophecy, and other gifts which may have been objectively
miraculous in nature fade not due to the sagging spiritual life of the church as claimed by the
Pentecostals, but because they have fulfilled their purpose.

There, the people are willingly giving their lives away for the Gospel – enduring beatings and
hardships, imprisonments and poverty. The Church in these places is more like the Church in
Smyrna [Rev 2:8], where believers suffered and died for the faith. It is surely unjust to class them
with the Laodicean church. What is true that during every age, the Seven Churches provide
examples and warnings to the Body of Christ as types of faithfulness and failure.
Conclusion
Spiritual gift of tongue is surely an interesting topic. A thorough study of this topic must be explored
by the church to understand fully its biblical meaning, purpose, characteristics, regulations, and life.
Each believer of the church must understand this doctrine so that they will be armed in battle or
spiritual warfare. This gift was given to the church by the God through the Holy Spirit at Pentecost,
the birth of the church, to validate the apostles as the messengers of God, with God's message. It is
also verified by various sources cited above that the glossolalia, or the tongue speaking meant by
Paul in his epistles were literal language known to man, a foreign language that may not be known
to the speaker that's why an interpreter who has the gift of interpretation has to be present each time
it happens to interpret the utterances, thus, this is not a result of ecstatic utterance or in a trance. The

Corn 's Podcast : Educational And Invigorating
Seane Corn's podcast was twofold: educational and invigorating. Hearing her talk about her journey
to happiness is a true testimonial to naysayers who are having doubts about the positive effects of
yoga. Corn's journey to happiness, as she conveyed, was not an easy one. She had to clamber her
way from an unsettled place as a child growing up in an unstable home. She explained how her
blue–collar working class parents raised her in an environment where religious practices were not
present and how, as a little girl, she thought of herself as "uneducated." She abused drugs and the
tender age of 19 and was diagnosed with "Obsessive Compulsive Disorder." She even suffered from
an anxiety disorder, but these dark episodes of her life eventually led to healing and happiness once
she discovered yoga.
Body Prayer
One of the big ideas in the Corne's narrative that would be a foreign concept to many is "Body
Prayer through yoga." In a nutshell, Corne's says one can use positions of one's body as a way as an

see how impactful it could be in my life. I am a spiritual person who believes in the power prayer. I

The Impact of Negro Spirituals on Today's Music Essay
The Impact of Negro Spirituals on Today's Music
I believe that it would be difficult for someone to make the argument that Negro spirituals have not
been influential in the field of music, much less the realm of gospel music today. However, church
members often do not make the time to reflect on the heritage of a hymn or song to realize the
meaning that the particular piece has carried with it through the decades, even centuries. With this in
mind, I am going to look at the history of the Negro spiritual and then at specific hymns in the 1991
Baptist Hymnal, published by Convention Press, to see just what impact the Negro spiritual has had
on today's church music. I believe that we will find that these songs have had a ... Show more

At first, however, slaves were not using their music to glorify the God worshipped by their masters.
Obviously, they had brought their religion with them, one considered pagan and inappropriate by
Christians in the American colonies. Christian missionaries were very disapproving regarding the
religious practices of the slaves, and they began to verbalize their disapproval and work to convert
the new African slaves. Seventeenth century author Morgan Godwin describes their religious
practices thus: ". . . nothing is more barbarous, and contrary to Christianity, than their . . . Idolatrous
Dances, and Revels; in which they usually spend the Sunday . . . And here, that I may not be thought
too rashly to impute Idolatry to their Dances, my Conjecture is raised upon this ground . . . for that
they use their Dances as a means to procure Rain: Some of them having been known to beg this
Liberty upon the Week Days, in order thereunto" (qtd. in Maultsby 3). Apparently, slave owners did
not immediately set out to influence the religious practices of their slaves; however, it would not be
long before the masters began to insist that their slaves practice their religion, Christianity.
I have found very little regarding the reception of the Africans to Christianity; nevertheless, they
were converted, and their music changed to

In the first chapter, Rankin sets the tone for the entire book, as he talks about the reality of spiritual
warfare. He takes great effort of getting his readers to embrace this fact. One can feel the passion of
his calling to share this vital information to every lover of God, and follower of Jesus Christ. Rankin
uses real life stories to drive home the point that spiritual warfare is alive and real. He shares his
experiences from his days in Indonesia, where he served as a missionary, and was privy to first hand
spiritual warfare, as he tries to do the work of God. He noted, "Missionaries are aware of
manifestations of Satan and demonic activity. Believers in the West also encounter Satan's activity
in their lives and society every day. But we seldom recognize it because it is cleverly disguised and
is discounted by our rational worldview." Throughout chapter one, he attempts to show his readers
that Satan is a liar, and that as Christians we have to be keenly aware of this, and not fall asleep. He
identifies upfront the objective of this entire book, he writes, "We are going to attempt to understand
the reality of spiritual warfare, the nature and character of our enemy, some of his primary strategies
that readily defeat us, and finally, how we can walk in victory on a daily basis." Rankin uses two

Analysis Of Sonny's Blues By James Baldwin
Transformation in the Story, "Sonny's Blues" by James Baldwin
Introduction
The story, "Sonny's Blues" is not simply the story of the experience of the narrator. Rather, it is a
story that captures his inner transformation as well the spiritual progression that his previous
experiences of death and loss have influenced. Yes, it is. In that, the story starts as an identified or
unfamiliar algebra teacher tries to familiarize with something at the same time riding the
passageway to school. The teacher and the narrator of the story exit the subway and walks towards
the school, his anxiety and fear mounting pressure on him regarding the fate of his Sonny. The
brother has been detained for peddling heroin. At the same time, thinking about the fate of his
brother reminds of the teacher of his students, who are subjected to limited possibilities in a harsh
and hostile world. The storyteller postulates that several of his schoolgirls may be by now be
undertaking drugs, as, for instance, heroin. The summary provided above captures that indeed, the
story based on the inner transformations that he attains from his previous experiences, that us the
fate of his brother, death, and loss. Attributable to the elucidations provided above, this paper in
writing seeks to substantiate the fact the story "Sonny's Blues" is not just an illustration of the
experiences of the narrator, but the story based on his inner transformation.

Silencing the enemy is a very fitting title for this book. It is fitting because the author, Robert Gay,
explains how God suppresses the devices of the adversary through the praise and worship of His
people. Although the term "spiritual warfare" is not found in scripture, Paul expounds on the
concept throughout the New Testament. He encourages the saints to "Put on the whole armor of God
that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil". This scripture informs us that we are in a
battle, a battle that has been raging since the beginning of time. It is not a battle that one can see
with the naked eye. Nor is it a battle that is fought with natural weapons. It is a battle that is fought
in the spirit world. Our methods of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Bible informs us that as they sung and praised God the Moabite armies became disoriented and
began to fight one another. Perhaps this is why we schedule the choirs and praise teams to minister
before the preached Word. Singing spiritual hymns to God will soften the hearts and prepare our
minds for what God has to say to us. Once our hearts are "plowed" or softened we can receive with
joy the assignments or correction God will give to us.
The author helps us to understand exactly who our enemy is and who our enemy is not. Our enemy
is not flesh and blood but, "principalities, and spiritual wickedness in high places". People are often
used by demonic spirits to act in adverse ways. We must never target people as our foes. The enemy
would love to have us overlook him and turn on one another. Our brothers and sisters are not who
we should fight. It is the spirit behind them using them to distract us into doing something we will
later regret.
Our God is loving, kind and merciful, but there is another side to His personality, the side that
defends and fights for His people. Paul declares we must know the "goodness and severity of God."
To understand the full character of God we must read the entire Bible. God is a lover of His creation
and He is a warrior who fights for those whom He loves. The author makes an excellent point that
since we are made in His image we must take on every aspect of the character

After reading chapter 10 of Soul Feast, I thought to myself what could be my rule of life? Where do
I need support in my daily walk with Christ? What is it in my life that needs work and could be
spiritually damaging, if not dealt with? Where do I need to be held accountable? After asking myself
these series of questions, it is almost as if God spoke aloud to me. You are very Judge mental it is

Silence. I love this, I find that God can deal with me better in silence. I can hear what God is saying
and what God wants me to do. In my life's journey, I find that practicing silence is what got me
where God wants me to be. In doing this God pours directly in to me, his divine plan. There was a
time when I needed to know what God wants me to do. How do you want me to serve you, because
that is all that I want to do. Spiritual formation teaches you to get closer to God. Learning theses
disciplines taught me to find a way to get closer to him, so that I can operate in my salvation better.

Essay on Negro Spirituals
Negro Spirituals
Spirituals, a religious folk song of American origin, particularly associated with African–American
Protestants of the southern United States. The African–American spiritual, characterized by
syncopation, polyrhythmic structure, and the pentatonic scale of five whole tones, is, above all, a
deeply emotional song. Spirituals are really the most characteristic product of the race genius as yet
in America. But the very elements which make them uniquely expressive of the Negro make them at
the same time deeply representative of the soil that produced them. Spirituals were long thought to
be the only original folk music of the United States, and research into its origin centered mainly on
the nature and extent of its African ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While work songs dealt only with their daily life, spirituals were inspired by the message of Jesus
Christ and his Good News (Gospel) of the Bible, "You can be saved". They are different from
hymns and psalms, because they were a way of sharing the hard condition of being a slave. Many
slaves in town and in plantations tried to run to a "free country", that they called "my home" or
"Sweet Canaan, the Promised Land". This country was on the Northern side of Ohio River, that they
called "Jordan". Some negro spirituals refer to the Underground Railroad, an organization for
helping slaves to run away.
The Spirituals are spiritual. Conscious artistry and popular conception alike should never rob them
of this heritage, untrue to their tradition and to the folk genius to give them another tone. That they
are vulnerable of both crude and refined secularization is no excuse. Even though their own makers
worked them up from the "shout" and the rhythmic elements of the sensuous dance, in
their finished form and basic emotional effect all of these elements were completely sublimated in
the sincere intensities of religious seriousness. To call them Spirituals and treat them otherwise is a
travesty. Emotionally, African slave songs were far from simple. They are not only spread over the
whole length of human moods, with the traditional religious overtone skillfully insinuated in each

Reflection Paper On The Tazaie Prayer
Taizé Prayer
At the Taizé prayer, the area with the altar and candles was inviting. First the silence for about 10
minutes, then the music played, followed by long pauses for praying and reading the scriptures
together. The prayer around the Jesus cross in the center was about to begin when a person placed
the cross on the ground and next to the cross a pillow for people to kneel and express their burdens.
After about ten minutes, the prayer around the cross continued, but this time the cross was moved to
a table. People freely approached the cross at the table and placed their heads on it or kissed the
cross. After a few more prayers were said aloud, then the final prayer was said followed by a song
as the closing. From this opportunity of praying in a group, I learned about the gifts and challenges
of prayer while reflecting in silence and listening to the meditative music.
The Taizé prayer is an opportunity to reflect on your day or your life and pray with others together.
This was my first time in a Taizé prayer, I have never heard about it before this class. The Taizé
prayer is a different way from how I am used to communicating with God. The prayer is centered on
a worship group that between silence, songs, prayers, and bible readings, people stand up to
acknowledge the cross statue in the center by kneeling in front or kissing the statue. The prayer

Use Of Language And Concepts Depicted Throughout The...
Expression is imperative to the human condition and is the primary reason why music has managed
to subside throughout the centuries in various forms. For many, music extends beyond rhythm and
beat, and is a means of communicating one's experiences and narrating those experiences to their
comprehension of the world. For African Americans, music was a symbol of cultural identity and a
way to translate the daily oppressions they were forced to endure. Insight and evidence into this is
depicted widely throughout the Spirituals and the Blues, where the hardships of slavery and troubles
associated with being African American are greatly expressed. While African American music has
evolved and new genres have sprung into existence, differences in the ways that they communicate
and express themselves have arisen. However, some aspects have remained similar and language
usage has demonstrated a correlation between the two. The songs "Soon I Will Be Done" and
"Trouble in Mind" demonstrate how use of language and concepts depicted within the Blues emits
evidence to its emergence from the spirituals. In the spiritual "Soon I Will Be Done", the writer
discusses how the sufferings and difficulties that they are momentarily facing will transcend into a
distant memory due to the hope that is near. This hope is evidently God as the writer clearly states
"Soon I will be done with the troubles of the world. Going home to live with God". Throughout the

What I Learned About Spiritual Warfare
God has restructured and redefined my ideas and ways of spiritual warfare. I learned so much about

weariness and being burned out. Through a recent series of events and personal crisis, God walked

Spiritual warfare of the end times will not be the same level of spiritual warfare we got away with in

his time is short and his impending doom soon approaching. It is a fury unleashed on all mankind

Several passages within the Bible deal with righteousness. A particular text that clearly elaborates
on this particular theme is Ephesians 6:10–20. The book of Ephesians is noticeably different
compared to the other Pauline letters. Differences include word use, length of text, and even tone of
the author. However, this section of Ephesians focuses on the idea of having righteousness in God
through difficult times where one's faith might be tested. Additional analysis throughout this paper

"Righteousness" is a common theme between the books, however in Isaiah the people in Israel
turned their back on God and embraced "oppression and revolt" (Beale, 831). The author's pattern is
to focus on sin and the restoration of the followers of Christ within their letter. The goal of his letter
was to encourage the people to be rid of their past sinful behavior and to work on improving
themselves for the sake of God's love. Throughout Ephesians 6:10–17 the author commands that the
people defend the position given to them by God and not succumb to attacks from the devil or any
other spiritual force (Beale, 832). However, when referring to the use of "armor", it is possible that
the author of Ephesians used text from Isaiah to draw inspiration for his letter. This could explain

asks God to help him search his heart so that he can be closer to God. Without God, the process of
self–evaluation is impossible as David states in his psalm. What makes David such a good source
for advice? In the Bible, David is known as "a man after God's own heart" (1 Sam. 13:14). If David
recognized the importance of self–evaluation, then every Christian should continually evaluate
themselves according to God's principles in the Bible. In this paper, I will be examining my spiritual
and discipleship condition in relation to myself, God, and others.
In relation to myself, my biggest weakness would be my fear and anxiety. My biggest fear is
change. In the past, I have had many bad experiences with change. For example, the most traumatic
change in my life was the move from England to South Korea. The leaving behind of friends,
culture, and comfort caused great distress. Another challenge and change was moving from South
Korea to America when my mother became very sick. This change had a very big impact on anxiety
as the fear of losing my mother changed me emotionally. During sixth grade, I went to the middle
school and was bullied. This experience motivated me to become homeschooled. The most recent
big change that I experienced was going to college. Because of my past traumatizing change,

The Outline Of My Overview Of Soul Gifting To Christ
In outreach, I would profile the individual and connect to the synopsis of my outline of them and
mostly I am usually right. I then build a rapport and get them to trust me. I use my gifts in building
trust in the first (8) minutes. I have many experiences witnessing, but souls winning to Christ in my
opinion are a hit or miss. Everyone is different in personality style and temperament. When they
reject (The Word of God) they don't reject you...it is Christ they reject. In my viewpoint, the more
exposure and experience an ambassador has, the better they will become at soul winning. Soul
winning is something I look at as a spiritual gift from God. The individual ambassador builds on
his/her gifts. My aim is to be "great at my job as a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Reflection About The Taz Prayer
At the Taizé prayer, the place with the altar and candles was inviting; first the silence for about 10
minutes, then the music played, followed by long pauses for praying and reading the scriptures
together. The prayer around the Jesus cross statue in the center was about to begin when a person
placed the cross on the ground and next to the cross a pillow for people to kneel and express their
burdens. After about ten minutes, the prayer around the cross continued, but this time the cross
statue was moved to a table. People freely approached the cross statue at the table and placed their
heads on it or kissed the cross. After a few more prayers were said aloud, then the altogether final
prayer followed by a song was the end of the prayer. From this opportunity of praying in a group, I
learned about the gifts and challenges of prayer while reflecting in silence and listening to the
meditative music.
The Taizé prayer is an opportunity to reflect on your day or your life and pray with others together.
This was my first time in a Taizé prayer, I have never heard about it before this class. The prayer is
centered on a worship group that between silence, songs, prayers, and bible readings, people stand
up to acknowledge the cross statue in the center by kneeling in front or kissing the statue. You are
not alone, you spend the hour with people of different churches or religious beliefs either in silence,
singing, praying and worshipping.
During the prayer, I learned that the peace

The Spiritual Warfare Movement
The "Spiritual warfare Movement" is a movement that intensely focuses on the movements of the
Holy Spirit in evangelistic and spiritual warfare. Pentecostal in nature, their focus is not on the
physical war which is seen, but the spiritual war, which is unseen. It is written, "For our struggle is
not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this
dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms" (NIV, Ephesians 6:12).
Dan Jorgenson writes, "Third wave approaches draw on a series of theological and practical
innovations prominently associated with evangelists such as C. Peer Wagner, John Wimber, Benny
Hinn, George Otis, and John Dawson). Wagner coined the term 'Third Wave' as a shorthand
designation for a Spirit–based movement that succeeded earlier Pentecostal forms (Wagner
1988:15)." A great deal of this movement began in the 1980's and has proliferated since this time.
Before it were two other Pentecostal and Charismatic waves. While many of this movements
aficionados seek to separate their persons from the Pentecostal and Charismatic movements to
appear more balanced in nature, having academic backing John MacArthur writes, "If you look very

insecurity amongst other emotions. Satan will seek to find areas that express needs in one's life and
will utilize these to maneuver the believer to sinful action outside of God's will. One then questions
how to cope with these attacks. Charles Stanley writes, "The greater question is not "What can we
do to avoid attacks from the enemy?" but "How are we to respond to such attacks when they come?"

The Pros And Cons Of Spiritual Warfare
In what ways can an emphasis on spiritual warfare be both good and bad for the church? What can
you do to avoid the pitfall that some believer has experienced as you study the subject of spiritual
warfare?
The emphasis on spiritual warfare can be good when we recognize the nature of the battle we are
fighting. As Paul said we are not fighting a physical fight rather we are fighting against
principalities and powers and against agents of darkness that are working hard to destroy the work
of God. The good thing is that the church should understand that Christ has totally given us victory
and we have no cause to fear over Satan's attacks. The church ability to understand the pattern Satan
works will go a long way in having a continuous victory over satan. ... Show more content on

If more emphasis is placed on the devil it will create fear in the heart of the church. Spiritual warfare
becomes bad when the church continuously blame the devil as the source of our weakness even
when we know that our failure comes from our personal weak points. The more we give attention to
the devil the more he is gaining more strength to attack us.
Personally, one area that I feel that the church has failed is not recognizing that we fight against our
flesh, world and the devil. This has caused us to give more credit to the devil. For example, each
time I sin against God, the first word that will come to my mind is "lord please forgive me the devil
made me do it" I think Christians should start taking responsibilities of their mistakes. By doing this
we can discover our personal weak points and seek for ways to overcome our failures. When we
Blame the devil for our sins we are giving him more room to invade our spiritual life.

You Can Read About It, But Then You Have To Do It.
Reading about meditation is an excellent way to become introduced to it. But for it to become a
practice, I have actually to do it. I have to practice it. By practice I meant the method I use to
improve something. It could be anything: sports, yoga, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because I had struggled so much at the beginning of my practice, I developed empathy for those
who were starting their exploration of meditation. I had gathered a reputation for a gentle and
accessible approach to starting meditation. So, when I started mapping out the content of The Power
of Meditation, I realized I did have something to say because I had been helping other people
navigate around the same obstacles I had encountered myself.
The Power of Meditation
To me, the power of meditation is that the person meditating gets so much for such a small
investment. In beginning classes about spirituality, I start the class with a short five minutes of
unstructured quiet time. That investment of five minutes of quiet time yields a compelling benefit.
The tone of the class changes and we become silent, and aware of the always–present within and
around us. That 's the power of meditation: you get so much for so little.
Obstacles On The Path
One of the most challenging obstacles new meditators face is the expectation of instant results. I
remember a conversation with someone whose doctor recommended he learn to meditate. He had
heard that I wrote the book and wanted to ask me some questions. Mind you; he didn 't want to read
the book. He said to me, can 't you just give me what meditation is about in 5 quick bullet points so
that I can decide whether or not it 's for me.

Examples Of Spiritual Warfare In C. S. Lewis The Screwtape...
Spiritual Warfare Ephesians 6:12 says, "For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against
principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of
wickedness in the heavenly places." In the book The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis, Uncle
Screwtape sends a collection of letters to Wormwood, always signing your affectionate Uncle
Screwtape. Screwtape, the older demon, counsels Wormwood on how to tempt "the patient", a
human. Through the course of the letters his "Patient" becomes a Christian. When his "patient" die,
the human ascends to heaven and Wormwood descends to Hell. We can all agree these demons were
manipulative and harmful, but we disagree whether they are pitiable. ... Show more content on

Throughout the letters Screwtape gives Wormwood (or Lewis gives us) many examples of lies from
the demons. Although there are several lies, there are four deceptions, which I thought are most
interesting. The first is having pride in humility. When the patient is humble Wormwood is to point
out his humility, therefore reversing his obedience into pride. The second exposed deception is a
distraction from the truth. When studying authors or philosophers the patient Wormwood
encourages him to ask about the authors background, why he wrote it, or how he came to his
conclusion. All these questions are good, but Wormwood purposefully uses these questions to
distract his human from questioning the truth. I believe Lewis believes this question is important
because it is important to evaluate a belief as good or bad on the basis of truth. The third lie is
praying for someone else's sin. In the book, Wormwood's assignment is to encourage his patient to
pray for his mother's faults, so that the patient focuses on her faults. Lastly, the fourth lie the patient
believes is in his misdirected anger. Screwtape encourages Wormwood to direct the Patient's hatred
of their enemy in war to his neighbors, and his good intentions toward strangers, that way his virtues
are closer to fantasy than reality. In result, the patient was kind to strangers and hateful to family and
close friends. Lewis brilliantly exposes these lies in an intriguing and thought–provoking

Money And Spirituality
Money & Spirituality – Do They Mix? By Anisa Aven Aug 17, 2007 The hoary argument that you
cannot have both – spirituality and abundance – continues to proliferate and entangle the minds and
experience of many seekers. As a culture, we constantly deal with the subconscious remnants caused
by the conflict between money and spirituality. We have allowed toxic ideas to pervade our
unlimited essence like a virus destroying our intrinsic right to wealth and fulfillment. Ideas such as
'money is the root of all evil ', that 'it 's easier to get a camel through the eye of a needle than for a
rich man to get into heaven ', and that 'if you are rich, then you must be either a crook, selfish, or
hardened ' abound in the global consciousness poisoning our natural right to wealth. Additionally,
the infamous subconscious impression amongst many spiritual practitioners and seekers, 'you
cannot be spiritual and a servant of the Divine, if you charge for your talent or knowledge '
continues to be the self–imposed prison that forces many spiritual workers to thrash about in a sea
of lack. These are just an infinitesimal sampling of the money–and– spirituality–don 't–mix disease.
Indeed, if one becomes consumed with the pursuit of wealth from the external vantage point, their
spiritual unification will be compromised. They may achieve wealth but at the cost of the fulfillment
of their divine destiny and at the expense of personal peace. On the other side, when one pursues

Negro Spirituals
From this point of view we have essentially four classes, the almost ritualistic prayer songs or pure
Spirituals, the freer and more unrestrained evangelical "shouts" or camp–meeting songs, the folk
ballads so overlaid with the tradition of the Spirituals proper that their distinctive type quality has
almost been unnoticed until lately, and the work and labor songs of strictly significant character.
Indeed, in the pure Spirituals one can trace the broken fragments of an evangelical folk liturgy, with
confession, exhortation, "mourning," conversion and "love–feast" rejoicing as the general stages of
a Protestant folk–mass. It is not a question of religious content or allusion, for the great majority of
the Negro songs have this more delicate question of caliber of feeling and type of folk use. The
distinctiveness of the Spirituals after all and their finest meaning resides in their musical elements.
The characteristic beauty of the folk song is harmonic, in distinction to the more purely rhythmic
stress in the secular music of the Negro, which is the basis of "ragtime" and "jazz"; while regarding
the one as the African component in them, and the other as the modifying influence of the religious
hymn.
In the United States the rhythmic element, though still dominant, has ceded measurably to the
melodic, the dance having given way to religious worship,

African American Culture
n the African American Culture, we are often copied in many different ways. From our hairstyles,
dances, art, lifestyle, clothing , etc. The African–American culture hardly receives credit for what
we do. Celebrities like the Kardashian's for example, they've used our ( the African–American
culture) hairstyles and acted as if it was their creation by giving them new names. So, now everyone
outside of the African–American culture tries it and acts like They've never seen it. We've been
wearing braids and cornrows since forever! Living in the African–American culture we are very
misunderstood. Many take the way that some of us talk or look as aggressive when we really are
nice and very respectable. We were taught to always respect our elders and to also treat the janitor
with the same respect as the CEO. Many also take our slang and automatically thinks that we're
uneducated. We are some very intelligent people actually they we talk shouldn't put us in such a
category. We go to school like everyone else and earn diplomas and degrees. Another thing about
growing up in the African–American culture is that many of us were very religious. They sung old
negro spirituals that until this day are still being used to help us get through tough times. We have
always had faith that's how we've accomplished so much. One thing I can say is that African–
American culture has changed inn many ways with slavery being one of them. Our ancestors were
slaves and fought so that we can be free and we are. African–American culture was more religious
based but those times have changed within some families of our culture with this new era. We were
always taught how to survive even in the worst conditions. If it's one thing that we know how to do
it's how to survive. The African–American culture is treated bad on a daily basis but, we don't let it
stop us. Whenever we fall, we get right back up but stronger and better this time. The Black Power
movement is very important to us. Know that Black Power is real and we will reign. Our leadership
skills are amazing. We were taught to use our creativity to achieve and to never give up. Growing up
in the African–American culture, is pretty exciting I would say. We love soul food Sundays with

Examples Of Spiritual Warfare
Spiritual Warfare In every culture, there is a belief of some type of demonic forces that torments
those of great faith. Some cultures say that evil spirits attempt to destroy those who believe in the
deity of love. Fear, pain, and hopelessness are the three main emotions that the demonic forces
attempt to manipulate to destroy those of great faith. By this, the main goal of these evil spirits is to
cause great strife and misery which in turn brings one an unhappy life. One unique example of such
events occurred in early American history during the infamous Salem Witch Trials. During that
time, fear took hold of the many of the residents of Salem, MA allowing for many unnecessary
executions of people who were accused of witch craft. Even though, an individual may be confident
in his/her faith in God, he/she may still be battling through a personal spiritual warfare. ... Show

The Religious Of Religious Texts
Religious texts also known as scriptures refers to the texts which different religious customs take it
to be sacred or crucial to their religious traditions. They are normally utilized to infer spiritual
truths, evoke a deeper link with the divine, promote communities identity, foster mystical
experience and offering guidance to community as well as individuals on spiritual practices.
Numerous spiritual movements as well as religions believe that their religious texts are divinely or
supernaturally inspired. Additionally, the monotheist faiths perceive their texts as "Word of God"
and strive to do in accordance to its message. They also deem it as a divine revelation. In USA,
numerous significant religion works are discussed indicating how the US community perceived

religious practices.

Taking a Look at the Spiritual Warfare
the Spiritual warfare
Spiritual warfare is not a theory. Spiritual warfare is not a rote. Spiritual warfare is not just to simply
unknown. No. Spiritual warfare is a daily practice of those who believe in Jesus Christ as Lord and
Savior.
Ephesians 6: 12
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the
powers of this dark world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
The enemy we face is not a man but a demon with all his minions. Who is actually the devil and his
friends? They are a third of the angels with the boss named Lucifer who has been a rebellion in
heaven, therefore they were expelled from Heaven and wander in this world while waiting for the
punishment of hell fire.
People would not want to believe, like it or not will be involved in spiritual warfare. You can not

Is Your Yoga Practice A Vehicle For Mental Health And...
Is your yoga practice a vehicle for mental health and self–actualization or are you content with just
doing the physical practice?
Yoga was originally intended to be a practice to facilitate self–actualization, meaning to realize who
you are and being comfortable being you. More recently in the western yoga world, there has been a
separation between physical development and spiritual development. Social media has defined yoga
as cool physical postures. Yet, do not be fooled into believing that you will be self–actualized by
only practicing asana. Asana is only one of the eight limbs, and a healthy body means nothing

There are many benefits from doing the physical practice, including improved overall physical
fitness, stress relief, and a reduction in anxiety and depression. But how can your yoga practice be
an instrument for self–actualization?
First of all, motivation is important. You have to want more. Without the desire to grow and learn,
self–actualization will not occur. That motivation often comes from being in a place where nothing
else is working. A time when you have tried everything else, and still you do not feel fulfilled.
The Trifecta Approach
There is a combination that will help you on your path towards fulfillment through self–
actualization. I call it the trifecta approach. Here are the three key methods that work together to
facilitate mental health and a life fully lived.
1. Yoga Practice: Find the right yoga teacher who supports your individual development beyond the
physical asana.
2. Meditate: Develop a solid sitting practice. This more subtle practice will strengthen your ability to
observe all mental activity.
3. Psychotherapy: Find a good therapist who will see you, hear you, support you, and guide you
through your own transformation, and who will encourage you to keep at it.
This may seem like a complex combination, but here is a case that demonstrates the trifecta's
approach in action.

Charles E. Lawless express some wonderful points in his article, "Spiritual Warfare and

`` The Screwtape Letters Of The Devil And Give Us An...
C. S. Lewis, one of the greatest spiritual writers the world has known, wrote the Screwtape Letters
to mock the evil works of the devil and give us an understanding of spiritual warfare that is
constantly going on all around us. Many people refuse to believe their lives are being interfered with
by spiritual forces, but it is not something that should be ignored. Lewis saw the importance in
recognizing spiritual warfare in order to learn how to fight it, and that is one of his inspirations for
writing this book. Although we aren't sure how demons attempt to lead us away from God, Lewis
gives a detailed account on what he believes is a way they could go about it. The Screwtape Letters
is a book made up of letters from a demon, Screwtape, addressed to his nephew, Wormwood.
Wormwood is assigned his first "patient" and it is his skilled Uncle Screwtape's job to help him
through the process. A patient is the demon's human that they are assigned to keep away from God
and to constantly face with temptation. Screwtape receives reports from Wormwood each week and
then responds with advice and techniques. Screwtape highlights many different ways to keep us
from following God, especially with limiting our understanding of "real" to mean only the material
(23). In other words, demons don't want us to think about the spiritual world around us, only about
real materials lacking the meaning of the purpose of life so that we don't ask questions about what
will happen to us after death.

Spiritual Warfare Research Paper
What Is Spiritual Warfare? Spiritual warfare is the fight of faith engaged by Christians against super
mundane entities in the spirit realm. This may sound like a coded language that is why many people
ask, what's spiritual warfare? Too many Christians have no knowledge about the seriousness of
spiritual warfare. The battle for the control of human soul started in the Garden of Eden when Adam
and Eve sinned against God. It's a battle between God and Satan, between good and evil, it's a
kingdom battle, the kingdom of God with all the angels and Satan with fallen angels.
Millions of Christians have no clue how this battle is staged and engaged. Satan rebelliousness and
pride brought a great indictment against him by the Almighty God. We read

Dreams As A Mode Of Freedom
The theme of dreams as a mode of freedom, an escape, is commonly seen in the literature of African
American writers that can be traced as far back as the Negro Spirituals during the time of slavery.
While the motif of dreams is used far and wide in African American literature, it is in no way a
static matter, but rather a dynamic entity that writers internalize and redefine to express the
sentiments of their time. The meaning of the dream progressed accordingly to racial tensions in the
country and the freedom African Americans were allotted to express themselves politically and
creatively. Starting with Negro Spirituals, hopes and dreams were often connected to a desire of
death to escape slavery. Following emancipation though, the dream motif began to articulate a more
hopeful future.
While some of the poems by the Harlem Renaissance writer Langston Hughes harbor a melancholy
attitude echoing that of the Negro Spirituals, Hughes's work can mainly be seen as the turning point
for how the motif of dreams would be portrayed in the works of prominent black authors and
figureheads. Langston Hughes was the beginning of the positive portrayal of the dream. At the time,
Hughes flourished within his community and it wouldn't be until many years later that the full
breadth of his work would be celebrated. He inspired the likes of Lorraine Hansberry and Martin
Luther King Jr. to bring his message to the nation. The dreams expressed by Hansberry and King Jr.
reflects those of Hughes'

Spiritual Warfare: The Conflict Of Light Vs Dark
I understand there is spiritual warfare but so far I do not have time and proper guidance to reflect on
this topic thoroughly. I know that some Christian do not even know that they have to be on guard
against Satan and the demons. They do not think that they need to be ready for attacks and be able to
protect themselves against the devil. They claim that they are in Christ and will not be affected. In
reality Satan always comes against us but God leads His people out of persecution on His wings,
and, continues to show images that deal with spiritual warfare just as He did in Exodus. My
understanding is that spiritual warfare is the conflict of good versus evil and of light versus dark. It
is rooted in history and has a future implication.

The Importance Of Spiritual Formation And Social Action
Some respondents reported that, while they were very eager to be engaged with LMAW and that
they had a long and deep appreciation for the importance of spiritual formation and social action,
they also felt that within their usual "church life" these two things are so disjointed as to be almost
irreconcilable.
One respondent said that a spiritual practice that fails to reflect action becomes "self perception
grooming" and another said "prayer seems important, but also inadequate, [it is] also one of the only
things I can do to make a difference. So I keep praying about it. Just like I keep clicking on all the
online petitions I see about it – but with little faith it will bring about any major change any time
soon."
These, and other respondents have had a hard time engaging with their church family. Some even
went as far as to say "I was discouraged by my church to participate".
I suspect, however, that the disconnect, and subsequent sense of being a lone voice, unsupported by
the wider church, added to their feelings of aloneness. No doubt the protracted nature of Australia's
mistreatment of asylum seekers and the lack of a general uprising of Christian community has also
contributed to the sense of hopelessness. I do not believe that these feelings are caused exclusively
by their LMAW involvement but their involvement with a group (see below) of like–minded
individuals may well have exacerbated their general aloneness and hopelessness.

Personal Demons Research Paper

  • 1. Personal Demons Research Paper I view my personal demons as, well just that, demons. I do not view them as the beautiful, mythical creatures that dragons are. My personal demons destroy me daily but I still fight everyday against them. Demons, in my mind, are creatures that destroy your will, mind, spirit and break you down slowly also they feed your mind thoughts and make you start to believe that they are true. My demons come in forms of depression and anxiety. They make it were I do not want to get out of bed, were the only refuge is my room. I do things to battle them daily, how I do that is by doing things I know will make me happy such as drawing and listening to music or even just being in the company of people who I cherish and love. However, sometimes those things ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Spiritual Warfare Research Paper confusion among the enemy; in which Joshua sung and used trumpets to destroy the great city of Jericho; another example of faith winning over evil includes David fighting Goliath with a slingshot. All such examples taught us lessons that there is no way we can win over evil without the help of God. According to an author Jason Jackson, Spiritual Warfare is real, difficult, and dangerous for us. We are in the fight of our lives. Ignoring ourselves from all sorts of beliefs will not turn this big problem down. We need to be strong and take charge of it as Christians. The followers of Christ have clearly stated the spiritual warfare in the Bible as dangerous. For Instance, Peter warns "Be sober–minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour" (1 Peter 5:8). "Our adversary or enemy, the devil, refers to Satan, who is a real entity, not a mythical creature or invention. Other titles of Satan include the tempter "(1 Thessalonians 3:5), "the wicked one" (Matthew 13:19, 38), and "the accuser of the brethren" (Revelation 12:10). ... Paul further describes the warfare in which we are engaged as we battle throughout our lives "against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places" (Ephesians 6:12). • 3. A Biblical Study of Spiritual Gift of Tongues Essay Continuists argue that the spiritual gift of tongues still continue today. To understand this fully, we need to remind ourselves of the primary purpose of the spiritual gifts and the spiritual gift of speaking in tongues. Donald W. Burdick refutes the argument of the cessationists using I Corinthians 13:8. According to him, "we must notice, however, that this verse does not say that tongues were to cease at the end of the apostolic age." However, he also concluded that healings, tongues, interpretation of tongues, prophecy, and other gifts which may have been objectively miraculous in nature fade not due to the sagging spiritual life of the church as claimed by the Pentecostals, but because they have fulfilled their purpose. Argument 3: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There, the people are willingly giving their lives away for the Gospel – enduring beatings and hardships, imprisonments and poverty. The Church in these places is more like the Church in Smyrna [Rev 2:8], where believers suffered and died for the faith. It is surely unjust to class them with the Laodicean church. What is true that during every age, the Seven Churches provide examples and warnings to the Body of Christ as types of faithfulness and failure. Conclusion Spiritual gift of tongue is surely an interesting topic. A thorough study of this topic must be explored by the church to understand fully its biblical meaning, purpose, characteristics, regulations, and life. Each believer of the church must understand this doctrine so that they will be armed in battle or spiritual warfare. This gift was given to the church by the God through the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, the birth of the church, to validate the apostles as the messengers of God, with God's message. It is also verified by various sources cited above that the glossolalia, or the tongue speaking meant by Paul in his epistles were literal language known to man, a foreign language that may not be known to the speaker that's why an interpreter who has the gift of interpretation has to be present each time it happens to interpret the utterances, thus, this is not a result of ecstatic utterance or in a trance. There are many events that happen in this world; the Bible explained that what Happened is related to the spiritual world. In this paper, let us try to understand the meaning Of spiritual warfare. Almost everyone believes may already know that there is a spiritual battle between us and the evil Spirits. This truth is clearly taught in the Bible. Paul stated that our battle is not against flesh and blood but evil spirits (Ephesians 6:12). James advises its Recipients to resist the devil (James 4:7) and Peter warned that the devil walking around About to swallow someone to devour (1 Peter 5:8). • 5. Corn 's Podcast : Educational And Invigorating Seane Corn's podcast was twofold: educational and invigorating. Hearing her talk about her journey to happiness is a true testimonial to naysayers who are having doubts about the positive effects of yoga. Corn's journey to happiness, as she conveyed, was not an easy one. She had to clamber her way from an unsettled place as a child growing up in an unstable home. She explained how her blue–collar working class parents raised her in an environment where religious practices were not present and how, as a little girl, she thought of herself as "uneducated." She abused drugs and the tender age of 19 and was diagnosed with "Obsessive Compulsive Disorder." She even suffered from an anxiety disorder, but these dark episodes of her life eventually led to healing and happiness once she discovered yoga. Body Prayer One of the big ideas in the Corne's narrative that would be a foreign concept to many is "Body Prayer through yoga." In a nutshell, Corne's says one can use positions of one's body as a way as an actively pray for others. For example, positioning your hands in an upward position during meditations could be a form of sending prayers God in the heavens. As I reflect on body prayer, I feel it would not be wise to guide school age children in body prayer, but for me personally, I can see how impactful it could be in my life. I am a spiritual person who believes in the power prayer. I believe that God created all things, mind, body and soul, and these three areas could be used ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Impact of Negro Spirituals on Today's Music Essay The Impact of Negro Spirituals on Today's Music I believe that it would be difficult for someone to make the argument that Negro spirituals have not been influential in the field of music, much less the realm of gospel music today. However, church members often do not make the time to reflect on the heritage of a hymn or song to realize the meaning that the particular piece has carried with it through the decades, even centuries. With this in mind, I am going to look at the history of the Negro spiritual and then at specific hymns in the 1991 Baptist Hymnal, published by Convention Press, to see just what impact the Negro spiritual has had on today's church music. I believe that we will find that these songs have had a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At first, however, slaves were not using their music to glorify the God worshipped by their masters. Obviously, they had brought their religion with them, one considered pagan and inappropriate by Christians in the American colonies. Christian missionaries were very disapproving regarding the religious practices of the slaves, and they began to verbalize their disapproval and work to convert the new African slaves. Seventeenth century author Morgan Godwin describes their religious practices thus: ". . . nothing is more barbarous, and contrary to Christianity, than their . . . Idolatrous Dances, and Revels; in which they usually spend the Sunday . . . And here, that I may not be thought too rashly to impute Idolatry to their Dances, my Conjecture is raised upon this ground . . . for that they use their Dances as a means to procure Rain: Some of them having been known to beg this Liberty upon the Week Days, in order thereunto" (qtd. in Maultsby 3). Apparently, slave owners did not immediately set out to influence the religious practices of their slaves; however, it would not be long before the masters began to insist that their slaves practice their religion, Christianity. But we seldom recognize it because it is cleverly disguised and is discounted by our rational worldview." Throughout chapter one, he attempts to show his readers that Satan is a liar, and that as Christians we have to be keenly aware of this, and not fall asleep. He identifies upfront the objective of this entire book, he writes, "We are going to attempt to understand the reality of spiritual warfare, the nature and character of our enemy, some of his primary strategies that readily defeat us, and finally, how we can walk in victory on a daily basis." It is fitting because the author, Robert Gay, explains how God suppresses the devices of the adversary through the praise and worship of His people. Although the term "spiritual warfare" is not found in scripture, Paul expounds on the concept throughout the New Testament. He encourages the saints to "Put on the whole armor of God that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil". This scripture informs us that we are in a battle, a battle that has been raging since the beginning of time. It is not a battle that one can see with the naked eye. Singing spiritual hymns to God will soften the hearts and prepare our minds for what God has to say to us. Once our hearts are "plowed" or softened we can receive with joy the assignments or correction God will give to us. The author helps us to understand exactly who our enemy is and who our enemy is not. Our enemy is not flesh and blood but, "principalities, and spiritual wickedness in high places". People are often used by demonic spirits to act in adverse ways. We must never target people as our foes. The enemy would love to have us overlook him and turn on one another. Our brothers and sisters are not who we should fight. It is the spirit behind them using them to distract us into doing something we will later regret. Our God is loving, kind and merciful, but there is another side to His personality, the side that defends and fights for His people. Paul declares we must know the "goodness and severity of God." To understand the full character of God we must read the entire Bible. God is a lover of His creation and He is a warrior who fights for those whom He loves. The author makes an excellent point that since we are made in His image we must take on every aspect of the character ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Chapter 10 Of Soul Feast After reading chapter 10 of Soul Feast, I thought to myself what could be my rule of life? Where do I need support in my daily walk with Christ? What is it in my life that needs work and could be spiritually damaging, if not dealt with? Where do I need to be held accountable? After asking myself these series of questions, it is almost as if God spoke aloud to me. You are very Judge mental it is ugly and not of God. I said well there it is. The practice that works well for me, is the practicing Silence. I love this, I find that God can deal with me better in silence. I can hear what God is saying and what God wants me to do. In my life's journey, I find that practicing silence is what got me where God wants me to be. In doing this God pours directly in to me, his divine plan. There was a time when I needed to know what God wants me to do. How do you want me to serve you, because that is all that I want to do. Spiritual formation teaches you to get closer to God. Learning theses disciplines taught me to find a way to get closer to him, so that I can operate in my salvation better. Meaning if you know what Gods plan is for you because your close to him, you can be more obedient to his principle and precepts. If you study his word and meditate on it daily, you can walk up right before God. Now understand this doesn't mean you won't fall it means you may fall less. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While work songs dealt only with their daily life, spirituals were inspired by the message of Jesus Christ and his Good News (Gospel) of the Bible, "You can be saved". They are different from hymns and psalms, because they were a way of sharing the hard condition of being a slave. Many slaves in town and in plantations tried to run to a "free country", that they called "my home" or "Sweet Canaan, the Promised Land". This country was on the Northern side of Ohio River, that they called "Jordan". Some negro spirituals refer to the Underground Railroad, an organization for helping slaves to run away. The Spirituals are spiritual. Conscious artistry and popular conception alike should never rob them of this heritage, untrue to their tradition and to the folk genius to give them another tone. That they are vulnerable of both crude and refined secularization is no excuse. Even though their own makers worked them up from the "shout" and the rhythmic elements of the sensuous dance, in their finished form and basic emotional effect all of these elements were completely sublimated in the sincere intensities of religious seriousness. To call them Spirituals and treat them otherwise is a travesty. Emotionally, African slave songs were far from simple. • 16. Use Of Language And Concepts Depicted Throughout The... Expression is imperative to the human condition and is the primary reason why music has managed to subside throughout the centuries in various forms. For many, music extends beyond rhythm and beat, and is a means of communicating one's experiences and narrating those experiences to their comprehension of the world. For African Americans, music was a symbol of cultural identity and a way to translate the daily oppressions they were forced to endure. Insight and evidence into this is depicted widely throughout the Spirituals and the Blues, where the hardships of slavery and troubles associated with being African American are greatly expressed. While African American music has evolved and new genres have sprung into existence, differences in the ways that they communicate and express themselves have arisen. However, some aspects have remained similar and language usage has demonstrated a correlation between the two. The songs "Soon I Will Be Done" and "Trouble in Mind" demonstrate how use of language and concepts depicted within the Blues emits evidence to its emergence from the spirituals. In the spiritual "Soon I Will Be Done", the writer discusses how the sufferings and difficulties that they are momentarily facing will transcend into a distant memory due to the hope that is near. This hope is evidently God as the writer clearly states "Soon I will be done with the troubles of the world. Going home to live with God". Throughout the Spiritual, the writer's circumstances are ... The goal of his letter was to encourage the people to be rid of their past sinful behavior and to work on improving themselves for the sake of God's love. Throughout Ephesians 6:10–17 the author commands that the people defend the position given to them by God and not succumb to attacks from the devil or any other spiritual force (Beale, 832). My Spiritual And Discipleship Condition Essay "Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting" (KJV Ps. 139:23–24). In this verse, David asks God to help him search his heart so that he can be closer to God. Without God, the process of self–evaluation is impossible as David states in his psalm. What makes David such a good source for advice? In the Bible, David is known as "a man after God's own heart" (1 Sam. 13:14). If David recognized the importance of self–evaluation, then every Christian should continually evaluate themselves according to God's principles in the Bible. • 23. The Spiritual Warfare Movement The "Spiritual warfare Movement" is a movement that intensely focuses on the movements of the Holy Spirit in evangelistic and spiritual warfare. Pentecostal in nature, their focus is not on the physical war which is seen, but the spiritual war, which is unseen. It is written, "For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms" (NIV, Ephesians 6:12). Dan Jorgenson writes, "Third wave approaches draw on a series of theological and practical innovations prominently associated with evangelists such as C. Peer Wagner, John Wimber, Benny Hinn, George Otis, and John Dawson). Wagner coined the term 'Third Wave' as a shorthand designation for a Spirit–based movement that succeeded earlier Pentecostal forms (Wagner 1988:15)." A great deal of this movement began in the 1980's and has proliferated since this time. Before it were two other Pentecostal and Charismatic waves. What can you do to avoid the pitfall that some believer has experienced as you study the subject of spiritual warfare? The emphasis on spiritual warfare can be good when we recognize the nature of the battle we are fighting. As Paul said we are not fighting a physical fight rather we are fighting against principalities and powers and against agents of darkness that are working hard to destroy the work of God. The good thing is that the church should understand that Christ has totally given us victory and we have no cause to fear over Satan's attacks. The church ability to understand the pattern Satan works will go a long way in having a continuous victory over satan. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Spiritual warfare becomes bad when the church continuously blame the devil as the source of our weakness even when we know that our failure comes from our personal weak points. The more we give attention to the devil the more he is gaining more strength to attack us. Personally, one area that I feel that the church has failed is not recognizing that we fight against our flesh, world and the devil. This has caused us to give more credit to the devil. For example, each time I sin against God, the first word that will come to my mind is "lord please forgive me the devil made me do it" I think Christians should start taking responsibilities of their mistakes. By doing this we can discover our personal weak points and seek for ways to overcome our failures. When we Blame the devil for our sins we are giving him more room to invade our spiritual life. The Power of Meditation To me, the power of meditation is that the person meditating gets so much for such a small investment. In beginning classes about spirituality, I start the class with a short five minutes of unstructured quiet time. That investment of five minutes of quiet time yields a compelling benefit. The tone of the class changes and we become silent, and aware of the always–present within and around us. That 's the power of meditation: you get so much for so little. Obstacles On The Path One of the most challenging obstacles new meditators face is the expectation of instant results. Spiritual Warfare Ephesians 6:12 says, "For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places." In the book The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis, Uncle Screwtape sends a collection of letters to Wormwood, always signing your affectionate Uncle Screwtape. Screwtape, the older demon, counsels Wormwood on how to tempt "the patient", a human. Through the course of the letters his "Patient" becomes a Christian. When his "patient" die, the human ascends to heaven and Wormwood descends to Hell. We can all agree these demons were manipulative and harmful, but we disagree whether they are pitiable. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Throughout the letters Screwtape gives Wormwood (or Lewis gives us) many examples of lies from the demons. Although there are several lies, there are four deceptions, which I thought are most interesting. The first is having pride in humility. When the patient is humble Wormwood is to point out his humility, therefore reversing his obedience into pride. The second exposed deception is a distraction from the truth. When studying authors or philosophers the patient Wormwood encourages him to ask about the authors background, why he wrote it, or how he came to his conclusion. All these questions are good, but Wormwood purposefully uses these questions to distract his human from questioning the truth. I believe Lewis believes this question is important because it is important to evaluate a belief as good or bad on the basis of truth. The third lie is praying for someone else's sin. In the book, Wormwood's assignment is to encourage his patient to pray for his mother's faults, so that the patient focuses on her faults. Lastly, the fourth lie the patient believes is in his misdirected anger. Screwtape encourages Wormwood to direct the Patient's hatred of their enemy in war to his neighbors, and his good intentions toward strangers, that way his virtues are closer to fantasy than reality. In result, the patient was kind to strangers and hateful to family and close friends. Lewis brilliantly exposes these lies in an intriguing and thought–provoking ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 28. Money And Spirituality Money & Spirituality – Do They Mix? By Anisa Aven Aug 17, 2007 The hoary argument that you cannot have both – spirituality and abundance – continues to proliferate and entangle the minds and experience of many seekers. As a culture, we constantly deal with the subconscious remnants caused by the conflict between money and spirituality. We have allowed toxic ideas to pervade our unlimited essence like a virus destroying our intrinsic right to wealth and fulfillment. Ideas such as 'money is the root of all evil ', that 'it 's easier to get a camel through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to get into heaven ', and that 'if you are rich, then you must be either a crook, selfish, or hardened ' abound in the global consciousness poisoning our natural right to wealth. Additionally, the infamous subconscious impression amongst many spiritual practitioners and seekers, 'you cannot be spiritual and a servant of the Divine, if you charge for your talent or knowledge ' continues to be the self–imposed prison that forces many spiritual workers to thrash about in a sea of lack. These are just an infinitesimal sampling of the money–and– spirituality–don 't–mix disease. From this point of view we have essentially four classes, the almost ritualistic prayer songs or pure Spirituals, the freer and more unrestrained evangelical "shouts" or camp–meeting songs, the folk ballads so overlaid with the tradition of the Spirituals proper that their distinctive type quality has almost been unnoticed until lately, and the work and labor songs of strictly significant character. Indeed, in the pure Spirituals one can trace the broken fragments of an evangelical folk liturgy, with confession, exhortation, "mourning," conversion and "love–feast" rejoicing as the general stages of a Protestant folk–mass. It is not a question of religious content or allusion, for the great majority of the Negro songs have this more delicate question of caliber of feeling and type of folk use. The distinctiveness of the Spirituals after all and their finest meaning resides in their musical elements. The characteristic beauty of the folk song is harmonic, in distinction to the more purely rhythmic stress in the secular music of the Negro, which is the basis of "ragtime" and "jazz"; while regarding the one as the African component in them, and the other as the modifying influence of the religious hymn. In the United States the rhythmic element, though still dominant, has ceded measurably to the melodic, the dance having given way to religious worship, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. African American Culture n the African American Culture, we are often copied in many different ways. From our hairstyles, dances, art, lifestyle, clothing , etc. The African–American culture hardly receives credit for what we do. Celebrities like the Kardashian's for example, they've used our ( the African–American culture) hairstyles and acted as if it was their creation by giving them new names. So, now everyone outside of the African–American culture tries it and acts like They've never seen it. We've been wearing braids and cornrows since forever! Living in the African–American culture we are very misunderstood. Many take the way that some of us talk or look as aggressive when we really are nice and very respectable. We were taught to always respect our elders and to also treat the janitor with the same respect as the CEO. Many also take our slang and automatically thinks that we're uneducated. We are some very intelligent people actually they we talk shouldn't put us in such a category. We go to school like everyone else and earn diplomas and degrees. Another thing about growing up in the African–American culture is that many of us were very religious. They sung old negro spirituals that until this day are still being used to help us get through tough times. We have always had faith that's how we've accomplished so much. One thing I can say is that African– American culture has changed inn many ways with slavery being one of them. Our ancestors were slaves and fought so that we can be free and we are. African–American culture was more religious based but those times have changed within some families of our culture with this new era. We were always taught how to survive even in the worst conditions. If it's one thing that we know how to do it's how to survive. The African–American culture is treated bad on a daily basis but, we don't let it stop us. Whenever we fall, we get right back up but stronger and better this time. The Black Power movement is very important to us. Know that Black Power is real and we will reign. Our leadership skills are amazing. We were taught to use our creativity to achieve and to never give up. Growing up in the African–American culture, is pretty exciting I would say. We love soul food Sundays with ... • 31. Examples Of Spiritual Warfare Spiritual Warfare In every culture, there is a belief of some type of demonic forces that torments those of great faith. Some cultures say that evil spirits attempt to destroy those who believe in the deity of love. Fear, pain, and hopelessness are the three main emotions that the demonic forces attempt to manipulate to destroy those of great faith. By this, the main goal of these evil spirits is to cause great strife and misery which in turn brings one an unhappy life. One unique example of such events occurred in early American history during the infamous Salem Witch Trials. During that time, fear took hold of the many of the residents of Salem, MA allowing for many unnecessary executions of people who were accused of witch craft. Even though, an individual may be confident in his/her faith in God, he/she may still be battling through a personal spiritual warfare. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 33. The Religious Of Religious Texts Religious texts also known as scriptures refers to the texts which different religious customs take it to be sacred or crucial to their religious traditions. They are normally utilized to infer spiritual truths, evoke a deeper link with the divine, promote communities identity, foster mystical experience and offering guidance to community as well as individuals on spiritual practices. Numerous spiritual movements as well as religions believe that their religious texts are divinely or supernaturally inspired. Additionally, the monotheist faiths perceive their texts as "Word of God" and strive to do in accordance to its message. They also deem it as a divine revelation. In USA, numerous significant religion works are discussed indicating how the US community perceived religion. Thus, this paper aims at unravelling Frank Peretti's religious work in USA through his novel This Present Darkness as well as how crucial it is within the broader context of American religious practices. Body Religion has remained to be a vibrant as well as vital part of the American society. Peretti in his fiction novel elaborates on how evil tries to triumph and take over the small town of Ashton. This clearly indicates that Christianity has not been constant in America and is faced with the immense forces of dark power. Certainly, new interests and issues have emerged but they have not altered the role of religion in the Americans life. Diversity forms the only characteristic that differentiates ... Ephesians 6: 12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. • 35. Is Your Yoga Practice A Vehicle For Mental Health And... Is your yoga practice a vehicle for mental health and self–actualization or are you content with just doing the physical practice? Yoga was originally intended to be a practice to facilitate self–actualization, meaning to realize who you are and being comfortable being you. More recently in the western yoga world, there has been a separation between physical development and spiritual development. Social media has defined yoga as cool physical postures. Yet, do not be fooled into believing that you will be self–actualized by only practicing asana. Asana is only one of the eight limbs, and a healthy body means nothing without a healthy mind. There are many benefits from doing the physical practice, including improved overall physical fitness, stress relief, and a reduction in anxiety and depression. But how can your yoga practice be an instrument for self–actualization? First of all, motivation is important. You have to want more. Without the desire to grow and learn, self–actualization will not occur. That motivation often comes from being in a place where nothing else is working. A time when you have tried everything else, and still you do not feel fulfilled. The Trifecta Approach There is a combination that will help you on your path towards fulfillment through self– actualization. I call it the trifecta approach. Here are the three key methods that work together to facilitate mental health and a life fully lived. 1. Yoga Practice: Find the right yoga teacher who supports your individual development beyond the physical asana. 2. Meditate: Develop a solid sitting practice. This more subtle practice will strengthen your ability to observe all mental activity. 3. Psychotherapy: Find a good therapist who will see you, hear you, support you, and guide you through your own transformation, and who will encourage you to keep at it. This may seem like a complex combination, but here is a case that demonstrates the trifecta's

  • 38. `` The Screwtape Letters Of The Devil And Give Us An... C. S. Lewis, one of the greatest spiritual writers the world has known, wrote the Screwtape Letters to mock the evil works of the devil and give us an understanding of spiritual warfare that is constantly going on all around us. Many people refuse to believe their lives are being interfered with by spiritual forces, but it is not something that should be ignored. Lewis saw the importance in recognizing spiritual warfare in order to learn how to fight it, and that is one of his inspirations for writing this book. Although we aren't sure how demons attempt to lead us away from God, Lewis gives a detailed account on what he believes is a way they could go about it. The Screwtape Letters is a book made up of letters from a demon, Screwtape, addressed to his nephew, Wormwood. Wormwood is assigned his first "patient" and it is his skilled Uncle Screwtape's job to help him through the process. A patient is the demon's human that they are assigned to keep away from God and to constantly face with temptation. Screwtape receives reports from Wormwood each week and then responds with advice and techniques. Screwtape highlights many different ways to keep us from following God, especially with limiting our understanding of "real" to mean only the material (23). In other words, demons don't want us to think about the spiritual world around us, only about real materials lacking the meaning of the purpose of life so that we don't ask questions about what will happen to us after death. ... This may sound like a coded language that is why many people ask, what's spiritual warfare? Too many Christians have no knowledge about the seriousness of spiritual warfare. The battle for the control of human soul started in the Garden of Eden when Adam and Eve sinned against God. It's a battle between God and Satan, between good and evil, it's a kingdom battle, the kingdom of God with all the angels and Satan with fallen angels. • 40. Dreams As A Mode Of Freedom The theme of dreams as a mode of freedom, an escape, is commonly seen in the literature of African American writers that can be traced as far back as the Negro Spirituals during the time of slavery. While the motif of dreams is used far and wide in African American literature, it is in no way a static matter, but rather a dynamic entity that writers internalize and redefine to express the sentiments of their time. The meaning of the dream progressed accordingly to racial tensions in the country and the freedom African Americans were allotted to express themselves politically and creatively. Starting with Negro Spirituals, hopes and dreams were often connected to a desire of death to escape slavery. Following emancipation though, the dream motif began to articulate a more hopeful future. While some of the poems by the Harlem Renaissance writer Langston Hughes harbor a melancholy attitude echoing that of the Negro Spirituals, Hughes's work can mainly be seen as the turning point for how the motif of dreams would be portrayed in the works of prominent black authors and figureheads. Langston Hughes was the beginning of the positive portrayal of the dream. At the time, Hughes flourished within his community and it wouldn't be until many years later that the full breadth of his work would be celebrated. He inspired the likes of Lorraine Hansberry and Martin Luther King Jr. to bring his message to the nation. The dreams expressed by Hansberry and King Jr. reflects those of Hughes' ... I know that some Christian do not even know that they have to be on guard against Satan and the demons. They do not think that they need to be ready for attacks and be able to protect themselves against the devil. They claim that they are in Christ and will not be affected. In reality Satan always comes against us but God leads His people out of persecution on His wings, and, continues to show images that deal with spiritual warfare just as He did in Exodus. My understanding is that spiritual warfare is the conflict of good versus evil and of light versus dark. It is rooted in history and has a future implication. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. The Importance Of Spiritual Formation And Social Action Some respondents reported that, while they were very eager to be engaged with LMAW and that they had a long and deep appreciation for the importance of spiritual formation and social action, they also felt that within their usual "church life" these two things are so disjointed as to be almost irreconcilable. One respondent said that a spiritual practice that fails to reflect action becomes "self perception grooming" and another said "prayer seems important, but also inadequate, [it is] also one of the only things I can do to make a difference. So I keep praying about it. Just like I keep clicking on all the online petitions I see about it – but with little faith it will bring about any major change any time soon." These, and other respondents have had a hard time engaging with their church family. Some even went as far as to say "I was discouraged by my church to participate". I suspect, however, that the disconnect, and subsequent sense of being a lone voice, unsupported by the wider church, added to their feelings of aloneness. No doubt the protracted nature of Australia's mistreatment of asylum seekers and the lack of a general uprising of Christian community has also contributed to the sense of hopelessness. I do not believe that these feelings are caused exclusively by their LMAW involvement but their involvement with a group (see below) of like–minded individuals may well have exacerbated their general aloneness and hopelessness.
