Nigeria American Culture
Nigeria has become the fastest growing country in Africa, its coastal ports are the heart and soul of its economy. Since its creation by the British
Empire, there has been a civil breakdown and conflict among its tribal leaders. However, their religious understanding between Islam and Christianity
has kept them at peace amidst themselves throughout time. The last few years, the government has developed itself into a functioning federation, the
people are able to notice how outside influence has improved their daily lives.
Nigeria is located in the Northwestern part of Africa and it rests on the Gulf of Guinea. Niger borders Nigeria to the north, while Cameroon borders to
the south with Chad to the east. Nigeria covers over 356,670 square miles ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

There are two types of government under the federal level, local and state. However, all choices at the local level were decided at the state level until

The Pros And Cons Of Internet Censorship
In the modern society issues of discrimination, inequality, and violation of human rights often arise. Pakistan and the United States are both an
example of this act. For instance, many countries censor the internet, but few of the many countries tell their intentions as explicitly as Pakistan.
Furthermore, President Trump may reshape DACA, the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival Program, which gave young people who had come to the
United States illegally as kids a chance to work and study in the U.S. without the fear of deportation. Similarly, President Donald Trump and former
president Imran Khan had a similar political slogan for their campaign. For example, Trump's campaign slogan was he will make "America Great
Again" and Khan's slogan was that he would "Naya Pakistan" which means build the entire country anew. As a result, both want to attract the majority
of the population by addressing the popular sentiment. Both the United States and Pakistan are making their countrys and citizens isolated; by Trump
building the border wall and Khan and the government censoring the internet, destroying knowledge and opportunities.
The internet is a powerful medium for news, books, information, and ideas. It has become a brand–new field for conflict about media freedom and
censorship. For example, the Pakistan Government "recently published a public tender for the development deployment and operation of a
national–level URL filtering and blocking system" (Sutton 1). As a result,

Internet Censorship in China Essay
In the United States, every child, teenager and adult uses Wikipedia, YouTube and Facebook, among numerous other sites, regularly. The internet is
open and uncensored for the most part, other than parental controls. In China, most, if not all of those types of sites are or have been blocked. As in,
you could not go to them, unless you found some way around the web filters and firewalls the Chinese government runs in their country. While China
defends their practice of internet censorship, based on "protecting" the people, heavy internet censorship is a block to free speech and impedes economic
and social development in the 21st century. China says it has its reasons for censoring its internet. Wang Chen, minister for the State Council... Show

The aim is to tighten political control and get Internet users to censor themselves by bringing them face to face with their censors or their
agents."(Anonymous) Reporters without Boarders further talked of why these regulations present a new block for free speech. "What Netizen will dare
to criticize the regime after meeting the person who could put them behind bars for one wrong word?"(Anonymous) Reporters Without Borders is
further stating that someone who might talk about something the government might find questionable will not do it at all if that person is met by
someone who could put them in prison. On the other hand, the US does not actively regulate the internet, relying on the public to regulate content on
the internet, with little government intervention. The internet in the US is relatively open, whereas in China, information on the internet is suppressed
based on what the Chinese government deems appropriate or inappropriate. Hillary Clinton, US Secretary of State, has stated, "Countries that heavily
censor the 'Net are creating a new 'Information Curtain' to rival the old Iron Curtain of the Cold War era."(Anderson) Clinton talked more of the US's
position on internet censorship. Further, "New technologies do not take sides," said Clinton. "But the United States does." The US supports an open
internet. (Anderson)

Analysis Of A Day Without A Mexican
Imagine that one day, all of the Hispanic population just disappeared from the face of the earth, nowhere to be seen or found. The film, "A Day
Without a Mexican" had that same plot, where the whole Hispanic population in California disappeared into thin air when a weird and mysterious fog
surrounded the state (Artenstein & Arau, 2004). The film may had taken a humorous and satirical approach to the topic of Mexican immigrants and the
overall treatment of the whole of the Hispanic population, but every joke that was made in the movie echoed the same problems and concerns that
exist in reality. The film addressed many of the stereotypes and racism that surround the Hispanic and Mexican populations. The film also made
apparent just how important Mexicans and Hispanics are to all aspects of society. Lastly, the film even attempts to cover what exactly makes
someone a Mexican or Hispanic. One of the major stereotypes about Mexicans and Hispanics that was addressed was how all Hispanics must be
Mexican (Artenstein & Arau, 2004). Every time a character was seen as Hispanic they were assumed to be Mexicans. This assumption could mostly
be seen with the character Lila Rodriguez, the news reporter. Lila Rodriguez, before anyone knew about her actual origins, was an American citizen,
and not Mexican or a Mexican immigrant. However, Lila did admit that she was Hispanic origin. Still, her colleagues and many of the other characters
in the film still believed that she was a

Latin American Watchdogs Essay
Nonetheless, this is a novel, but interesting experience for Latin American watchdogs. Indeed, more than a decade ago regional and national networks
have been developed for strength both individual professional skills and media performance, particularly investigative proficiency. Among the
institutions devoted to improving the crafting of journalism can be counted the Colombian–based FundaciГіn para el Nuevo Periodismo Iberoamericano
(FNPI) and the Peruvian–based Instituto Prensa y Sociedad (IPYS), both reaching regional audiences and networks. Alongside these nodes of
professional encounter, national associations of journalists have sprouted in countries such as Argentina, Brazil, and Colombia , especially oriented to

Building up, not only a contemporary interpretive community, but also a memory about investigative journalism in Latin American societies will
require not only the good will of hundreds of reporters spread across the continent, but also institutional structures that support and provide continuity in
the long–term.
Therefore, crafting a situated conceptualization of Latin American investigative journalism(s) should pay attention not only to methods and procedures,
but also to outcomes. That is, the actual exposГ©s that come all the way through the light not only because they straightforward follow strong and
systematic steps, but overall because they overcome several practical obstacles and political economic conditions that overshadow eventual
methodological shortcomings or unorthodox procedures and are crucial at certain critical moments in their societies.
For example, in 1990, just a few months after a democratic government took office in Chile after 17 years of dictatorship, the in–depth TV news show,
Informe Especial, broadcasted a very detailed story about human rights violations that has been rather well–known within human rights organizations,
locally and internationally. However, it was the very first time that public broadcasting showed, fairly, on prime–time, the faces of the repression's
victims, demonstrates the patterns of state brutality, and editorialized about crimes against humanities. The report was full of

Media 's Influence On The Media
We are a world that revolves around our media outlets. This is because we depend on them to give to us the information that we need to be able to
live our daily lives. Whether it is the news on politics or just events that are happening around your area. The real question though is has news
changed? And the follow up question to that would be; how do historians think news has changed? The news media has changed throughout
history because of the rise of technology. It is now possible to reach people that back in the day went by hear say information. Today's historians
view the change in the media in different ways some think that the view on the media has changed because of the way we are taught about the
media, the way the media reports news and how political factors influence the media. It seems like now day's people always have a negative view
of the media but how is it that the younger generations already have a negative view of the media. This is because we are taught to have a negative
view of the media. The media is not seen as a good thing but more like a necessary evil. Historians view the media in different ways but some think
that the only reason that we view the media in such a negative light is because we are taught from a young age not to think highly of the media when
it is the only thing that we have to give us news. Even though we do not like it we still watch, listen and read the news that is given to us. Joseph

Why Should Illegal Immigrants Be Allowed To Stay In America
Illegal immigrants should be allowed to stay in America. According to the dictionary definition, an illegal immigrant also known as an illegal alien is
"a foreigner who enters a country without an entry or immigrant visa, especially a person who crosses the border by avoiding inspection or who
overstays the period of time allowed as a visitor, tourist, or businessperson". From Renewing America, the U.S. immigration debate "Immigration has
been a touchstone of the U.S. political debate for decades, as policymakers must weigh competing for economic, security, and humanitarian concerns.
Congress has been unable to reach an agreement on comprehensive immigration reform for years, effectively moving some major policy decisions into
the executive and judicial branches of government, and fueling debate in the halls of state and municipal governments. Meanwhile, the fates of an
estimated eleven million undocumented immigrants in the country, as well as rules for legal immigration, lie in the balance"(Felter and Renwick).
There are many arguments that support allowing illegal immigrants into America, because of this immigration has been a controversial issue for over
so many years. According to SIRS knowledge source, some would argue that "unauthorized immigrants should be detained and deported for flouting the
law", but on the other side, people would disagree with these accusations because, but "the vast majority of unauthorized immigrants are hard–working

How Did Trump Become Successful
Regardless of a person's political affiliations, one thing everyone can agree on is the success of the Republican candidate for president, Donald J.
Trump. To a casual observer of Trump's campaign, it may have looked like the entire process was chaotic and lacked unity; however, it was far from
that. Donald Trump realized early on that he was not a politician and instead of lamenting on that fact, he turned it into a selling point. Trump used prior
fame, unreasonable policies and misdirection to gain the vote of the largest voting demographic, the white Midwest working class.
Fame, policy and misdirection were three ways Trump achieved success politically. When Trump first announced that he was running forPresident of
the United States, everyone thought it was a joke. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That was the key difference between himself and every other candidate. Other candidates took the time to check what they can and cannot feasibly do;
Trump just blurted out slogans without thinking about the consequences. The most obvious example of that is the border wall with Mexico and who
would be financially responsible for the construction of such a wall. Not once in his campaign did he give a well–explained response to how he will
get Mexico to pay for the wall. He would use his experience as a successful businessman as a cover to misdirect the media. Misdirection of the media
was a crucial element to Trump's success. He understood that his base did not agree with mainstream media therefore, he was not afraid to fight the
media. If he was asked a question he did not like, he would deflect the question and turn it around on the interviewer. This practice was used throughout
his entire campaign and even through his current presidency. Last week he was asked a question by a Jewish reporter about the recent bomb threats
made to synagogues around the country. The reporter was very respectful and stressed that he was not insinuating that Trump was anti–semitic, but

Why Did So Many Immigrants Come To America
Immigration
Many people wonder why immigrants come to America. Most immigrants come across border for freedom, others for money, but most of the time it's
for their religion. A lot of people run away and come to America because they want 'Refuge' AKA (Protection).
Opportunities
In order to cross the border you have to have a passport, or a special pass of some sort. Most people aren't even supposed to come to the United States
so they "risk" their lives to come here. One main reason Immigrants come to America is for better opportunities. Reason being is, they would make
way more money in the united states than what they would be making in Mexico or wherever they came from. They may seem desperate but they're
really not, they just want a better life. In the year of 2015 reporters say over 350,000 immigrants arrived in europe sea compared to the 2014 year.
Within that 350,000; 2,600 0f them died or were found dead. In July of this year 203 migrants died with the start to the end of that month. Reporters
found out that many immigrants don't even travel by sea anymore, they try to walk. Whenever they try to cross the border, they may go through
deserts, and usually die of dehydration. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Being the country with the second highest number of Catholics––Mexican citizens remain hopeful.
From 1929 to 1980, Mexico held the longest–ruling party in the world called the Partido Revolutionario Institutional (PRI), or the Institutional
Revolutionary Party. The PRI dominated the political institutions in Mexico. It was a party that included all significant figures in the national and
local politics. The PRI funded the media during its time in power, and enabled them to control what was being said and presented about the Mexican
government. Resources say that the PRI would spy on the journalists using the national intelligence agency (Hallin 87). The lack of professionalism
and higher education also hindered the opportunity for journalists to be seen as respectable and credible to the public. In the 1950's, Televisa, the
first Latin American television network was created and funded by the PRI. Televisa continues to be the largest television network in Latin America
today; however, due to its ties with the PRI during the 1950's, Televisa is still seen as a government affiliated network. In Daniel C. Hallin's article,
"Media, Political Power and Democratization in Mexico," he goes into further detail on how Televisa openly supported PRI during the electoral
campaign. In 1988, the ruling party [PRI] faced its toughest competitor, Cuatemoc Cardenas Solorzano, from the small leftist party. During the electoral
race, Televisa devoted 80% to the

Advocation In Chinese Government And Censorship In The Bible
Angel–Rose LattTheology 202
Advocating in China In the Bible, Paul and many early Christians were always fleeing from being thrown in jail or even being killed. They were
arrested because of their belief in Jesus, since the government at that time believed that Christians were breaking the law. Unfortunately, prisoners of
conscience still exist in the world today. China is an evident example where prisoners of conscience are being jailed and tortured because of their
freedom of speech. For years, the Chinese government has obstructed human rights activists by suppressing them and punishing them. Censorship in the

Many demonstrators were recently arrested for their involvement in this demonstration, and they are uncertain if they will face any charges. Wu Gan,
or known by his pen name Tufu, 'The Butcher' remains incarcerated for "subverting state power." He is in danger of torture and maltreatment. (Amnesty)
As seen in the early Christian Church and even in the Church today, many Christians are persecuted because of their belief in god. Sometimes, they
may even be in conflict with the government, as some authorities may support wrong ideals and morals and suppress a society under their stringent and
unjust laws. These individuals who have been persecuted for their conscientiously–held beliefs, provided that they have not used or advocated violence,
are called prisoners of conscience. In China, many Chinese reporters, journalists, and activists interfere with the rules of the Chinese government that
do not allow any media that will disrupt the "political balance." These prisoners of conscience in China are often jailed or punished for subversion,
especially in regards to the political atmosphere of China. In the case of the current activists in China who are currently detained for speaking the
truth, can be called prisoners of conscience. It is definitely acceptable to act in violation of the laws China has mandated in regards to the media that
can be published if that is what they believe in.

My First Intercultural Awareness Activity Essay
For my first Intercultural Awareness activity, I chose to listen to the BBC World Report every day for a week. I listened to BBC from September 7
through September 13. I listened to an hour report each day, culminating in 7 hours of intercultural awareness. Because of the lengths of the podcasts, I
chose to focus on the main issue that was presented in the podcast.
I listened to the 1st podcast September 7, 2016. It was on an issue that has risen in Ukraine between two orthodox churches, the Ukrainian Orthodox
church of Moscow and the Ukrainian Orthodox church of Kiev. In a small village in Ukraine called Pticha had the members of the UOM barricade
themselves into their church, forcing those who were associated with the UOK to worship off of the property. The conflict was supposedly caused
because of the political conflict that is happening between Russia and Ukraine. The leaders of the Ukrainian church of Moscow believes that the
members of the church of Kiev are being too political. They say this because the members of the church of Kiev are saying that those involved in the
Moscow church are not true patriots of Ukraine.
The reporter asked one of the leaders of the church of Moscow if Russia was pressuring them in any of their actions against the church of Kiev. The
leader said that Ukrainian orthodox church is autonomous. He stated that "[The Ukrainian Orthodox church of Moscow] is absolutely independent in

The Documentary ' Citizenfour '
The documentary Citizenfour is an eye opening first hand tale of Edward Snowden, a former contractor with the National Security Administration who
leaked top secret documents to reporters. The leaked information has transformed the understanding of the American people of the government spying
on everyone and anyone they chose to, without probable cause, warrants or constitutional standing. The implications of his actions though specifically
unknown at the time, were calculated and deemed well worth his own personal risk to imprisonment, death or the relinquished rights of his United

The film begins as an exciting blockbuster spi movie by showing encrypted email correspondence between a person known as Citizen Four and a
reporter named Laura Poitras. These emails were secured through multi level encryption with single use passwords for each session the information is
accessed. Citizenfour asked to meet in person, she waited for direction in New York City. Another encrypted email came asking her to meet in Hong

then he would tell her he didn't know and then offer to show her where the restaurant was and they would discretely go up to a room to discuss plans
for the leak.

Censorship in North Korea
Introduction
Delving deep into the history of how new media has the ability to cause the autocratic ways of governments to run into a stone wall, the infamous
incident of how university students of Indonesia leveraged on the power of e–mail to overthrow the then corrupt President Suharto presents itself as an
excellent illustration. Through examining more recent cases where the citizens of Tunisia and Egypt have tapped on the power of social media to help
upend the existing political order, the potency of new media becomes apparent. Amidst volatile and rapidly evolving preferences and uses for different
forms of new media, North Korea remains entrenched in the situation where all types of media are state–owned; where the Internet is ... Show more

However, it is essential to note that the climate of fear could paralyse the citizens such that they remain nonchalant about their lack of freedom,
assuming the government is able to satisfy their basic needs. From another point of view, this assumption could prove problematic on its own. Although
North Korea could rank low on the Power Distance Index due to the communist emphasis on equality and minimizing status differences
(Birnbaum–More, Wong and Olve, 1995), it is notable that the Power Distance Index is malleable and can shift in the face of ideological pressures
(McGrath, MacMillan, Yang, Tsai, 1992) i.e. the communist regime in North Korea. Hence the people are reluctant to question authority and the fear to
disagree is substantial (Birnbaum–More et al., 1995). Therefore, the citizens of North Korea could be less particular about their restricted status of
freedom because they accept the commands of the government 'dutifully'.
To limit the scope of discussion, it would now be appropriate to define the term "influence". The influence of the influx of new media on the North
Korean government would allude to the extent to which the dictatorship nature of the

The Pros And Cons Of Illegal Immigration
In today's society, immigration is a very sensitive topic on the news. Many people are opposed to illegal immigration and other people support this
issue. What do you think of when illegal immigration comes to mind? The definition of an illegal immigrant is, any foreigner who enters the United
States without a Visa, especially someone who crosses the border by avoiding inspection. Countless amount of people considers the Mexican border the
main source, which is true but, you must reflect the terrorist which come into America and intend to hurt the American citizens. All of this talk about
building a wall, is good, but not good at the same time. The wall that would be built, would cost a lot of tax payers money, and would not keep the
terrorist from coming in. The immigrants always will find a way into America, the only thing we can do is decrease the amount that do come into
America. Both are important issues that deliberate on America in numerous different ways, which will be discussed in this argument. Illegal
immigration has brought an increasing amount of economic disparity among populations in developing nations and has an outcome of various
economic issues and terrorism. The illegal immigrants that come from the southern border has brought an impact on America. Many statistics help
support the idea of how much of a burden these immigrants are. These people enter America because, of the "American Dream", thinking that it will

82.5 years old. In comparison to America's record high of 78.8, this is a huge difference in time. I believe that the expectancy of life in Australia is
longer than most other counties due to the Environment Performance Index that was discussed above. I think that there is a direct and precise

Its job is to carry out the day–to–day government and administration of the country and to execute the laws. The Governor–General forms part of the

Executive Council consists of the ministers in the government.
In practice, the executive government does more than simply administer the government and execute the laws passed by parliament. Since the
government must control the House of Representatives to survive, in practice the executive also determines what legislation shall be debated and
passed by the House of Representatives. Because budget appropriations (parliamentary allocations of money) and tax proposals must originate in the

The Life Expectancy Indicator is a statistical measure of how long a person may live, based on the year of their birth, their current age and other
demographic factors including gender. The Life Expectancy Indicator from 2014 stated that Australians were expected to live to be approximately
82.5 years old. In comparison to America's record high of 78.8, this is a huge difference in time. I believe that the expectancy of life in Australia is
longer than most other counties due to the Environment Performance Index that was discussed above. I think that there is a direct and precise
correlation between a clean environment and a clean body. Overall, Australia is also less densely populated, even

Figurative Language In The Devil's Highway
In The Devil's Highway by Luis Alberto Urrea, the author retells a story of a group of immigrants who attempted to cross the border from Mexico
into America. Throughout the novel, Urrea uses figurative language and syntax to prove the meaning that in order to grow as a community, there
needs to be unity; making quick judgements about others can prevent people from uniting together. Towards the beginning of the novel, Urrea
describes how the bodies of those who died crossing the border are treated in inspections for reports. He states, "Some reports wittily call these men
Juan Does. Jane Doe becomes Juana Doe" (Urrea 36). When he states that "Jane Doe becomes Juana Doe," he uses the idiom of Jane Doe and shifts
the name to resonate with someone... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Every single person has a reason for putting their life in danger, but the media and many people are failing to realize that. The reporters generalize
those who died crossing the border which makes their insensible treatment seem less degrading because their audience cannot relate to them. Without
any aspect of common ground, it becomes easier to dismiss the human characteristics these people have. In unison with the second sentence in the
quote, it is communicated that many people do not take the time to realize that these people crossing the border are no different than themselves,
and they simply ignore the fact that these people also had responsibilities and families to care for. As stated in the quote, this is "a story of the
heart," because behind every man and women that try to cross the border, there is a story. Many people fail to see the human qualities they possess
only to see their skin tone and clothing. As a result, people build up a division between themselves and individuals who have died trying to build a
better life for themselves and their loved ones. This relates to the meaning because these divisions further separate groups of people and can keep them
from reaching out to each other and uniting in order to benefit

The Involvement Of Boko Haram
Intimidation is a strategy aimed at convincing the population that the government is too weak to stop them and thus, forces the populous to comply as
the terrorist organization wishes. This strategy has been utilized to aide recruitment. Boko Haram began to receive attention in 2003 when it launched
attacks against police stations. The organization continued to attack police stations for a few years, primarily to steal arms and ammunition, but also
because they understood that these were targets with high success rates. Not only did these targets provide weapons for Boko Haram, but it also
increased their recruitment, due to the government 's inability to suppress the attacks. This strategy proved that the group was strong enough to repress
the government and work towards achieving a goal of a traditional Muslim society (Elkaim).
Historically, kidnapping has shown to provide significant financial resources for perpetrators. Furthermore, unlike hostage taking, does not limit the
perpetrators options, is generally not public, and compels the third party to act in their favor. This is a strategy often utilized, successfully, by Boko
Haram. The U.S. has estimated that they have received nearly 1 million a year from ransoms (threat report). Kidnapping is not only used as a
financial mechanism for Boko Haram, but rather a strategy to advance their goals in all areas. It has been over two years and most of the Chibok
schoolgirls, kidnapped by Boko Haram, are still missing. Boko

Lack of Freedom Of Speech in Sudan Essay
The largest country in the African continent is Sudan. The population in the country is more or less 33 million that speaks about 130 languages
/dialects. Majority of the people are Africans and Arabs. Even though the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) was endorsed
by Sudanese government in 1986 that guaranteed the right to freedom of expression and press in 1998 constitution, there is no actual practice of this
right. Sudan is one of the very few countries where media is under heavy restriction and the related personnel are subjected to high control and

Restrictions are also imposed on international journalists. Similar is the case with the use of Internet. It won't be incorrect to state that Sudan has no
respect and reverence for the freedom of speech, freedom of connection, contribution and nonviolent assemblage. If truth be told, the regime in
Sudan is one of the worst regimes in the world when it comes to the access to free and assorted information, online and offline together. Reporters
without Borders conducted a worldwide study regarding press freedom and ranked Sudan at 170 in one hundred and seventy0nine countries. In
simple, people are not even allowed to express their views freely online and the online users are also impacted by this freedom of expression's
violation ("Freedom on the Internet in Sudan"). People in Sudan have frequently voiced their concerns about the government's policy towards freedom
of expression and speech. Since 2010, the Sudanese Government has given a brutal response to the wave of protests with unparalleled bloodshed and
hostility toward the citizens even though the protests had been peaceful. In Khartoum and Wad Madani alone, two hundred people were killed by the
law enforcement personnel. In addition, detention has been given to more or less 600 people. Plans for economic austerity also catalyzed such protests
in 2012 resulting in the implementation of "a large–scale crackdown and detentions of citizens and

Since 2008, Engineers without Borders Canada has released an annual failure report. They believe it's important to learn from failure and in each
report contains a reflection on what they did and what they could've done better. "There was a reason no one in the sector was talking about their
failures already: development work is largely donor–driven and donors tend to stop funding people and projects that fail. This is not Silicon Valley–
the risk aversion in the sector is palpable, stifling innovation and driving learning underground." (Ashley Good, Admitting Failure and Fail Forward

come by some astounding achievements. In 2014 EWB worked in Malawi's WASH sector working to enhance WASH service delivery, they did
this by advising the government and development partners on how to organize their plans (EWB.ca). In the Kalomo District, Engineers without

Korean Totalitarian Government of 1984 Essay
As evident through the striking similarities between the totalitarian government of 1984 and the Communist regime of North Korea, it really is as if
Kim Il Sung obtained an early copy of George Orwell's 1984 and used it as a blueprint for his system (Hitchens n.p.). George Orwell had been exposed
to various types of imperialism throughout his early life, leading to a realization of his resentment for authority. Orwell produced the novel with the
intent of warning future societies of the dangers of totalitarian governments, yet North Korea epitomizes a flawless depiction of the very authority that
Orwell yearned to avoid through providing a detailed illustration of the ramifications of submitting to a tyrannical government (Merriman n.p.). ... Show

How often, or on what system, the Thought Police plugged in on any individual wire was guesswork. It was even conceivable that they watched

Illegal Immigration Arguments

ENG 111
19 November 2017 Should illegal immigrants be able allowed to stay in the U.S.?
Illegal immigrants should be allowed to stay in America. According to the dictionary definition, an illegal immigrant also known as an illegal alien
is "a foreigner who enters a country without an entry or immigrant visa, especially a person who crosses the border by avoiding inspection or who
overstays the period of time allowed as a visitor, tourist, or businessperson". As Felter and Renwick discuss in their article " The U.S.immigration
debate." , "Immigration has been a touchstone of the U.S. political debate for decades," as policymakers must weigh competing for economic, security,
and humanitarian concerns. There are many arguments that support allowing illegal immigrants into America, because of this immigration has been a
controversial issue for over so many years. There are many issues that can be discussed regarding immigration as Felter and Renwick pointed out in the
article: "congress has been unable to reach an agreement on comprehensive immigration reform for years, effectively moving some major policy
decisions into the executive and judicial branches of government, and fueling debate in the halls of state and municipal governments. Meanwhile, the
fates of an estimated eleven million undocumented immigrants in the country, as well as rules for legal immigration, lie in the balance"(Felter and
Renwick). According to SIRS

Native American Refugees Essay
Refugees: Seeking Safety in Europe Thousands and thousands of migrants have begun to flood into the European countries. With immigration numbers
higher than ever, these countries have begun to search for solutions. Some countries have considered closing their borders , many are beginning to
show violence to keep people out. As always, there is a much better solution other than using violence. TheEurope Migration Policy needs to be
adjusted to current needs and these countries need to work together to create better opportunities for the immigrants and refugees seeking safety.
Anemona Hartocollis, a reporter for The New York Times, documents what it is like for these refugees trying to cross the border. She writes about a
group of people who were trying to cross the border from Flensburg, Germany. The train that they were traveling on was stopped was stopped by the

11.2 million unauthorized immigrants residing in America, with that being said, without the statics Americans wouldn't even notice because there are
so many people in this country with different faces seen daily. For instance, when researching I notice a few articles mentioning politics quite often.

Journalist A journalist is a person who collects, writes, or distributes news or other current information to the public. A journalist's work is called
journalism. A journalist can work with general issues or specialize in certain issues. However, most journalists tend to specialize, and by cooperating
with other journalists, produce journals that span many topics. For example, a sports journalist covers news within the world of sports, but this
journalist may be a part of a newspaper that covers many different topics and topics. Journalist and reporter are relateships. A reporter is a type of

This applies specially to war reporters, but their editorial offices at home often do not know how to deal appropriately with the reporters they expose
to danger. Hence, a systematic and sustainable way of psychological support for traumatized journalists is strongly needed. However, only little and
fragmented support programs exist so far.
The Museum in Washington, D.C. is home to the Journalists Memorial, which lists the names of over 2,100 journalists from around the world who
were killed in the line of duty. The relationship between a professional journalist and a source can be rather complex, a source can actually impact the
direction of the article written by the journalist. The article 'A Compromised Fourth Estate' uses Herbert Ganz' metaphor to capture their relationship.
He uses a dance metaphor 'The Tango' to illustrate the co–operative nature of their interactions "It takes two to tango". Herbert suggests that the source
often leads but journalists commonly object to this notion for 2 reasons: o It signals source supremacy in news making. o It offends journalists'
professional culture, which emphasizes independence and editorial

Ngos And Freedom Of Expression Essay
NGOs and Freedom of Expression
NGOs are significant actors in defending the human right to freedom of expression worldwide. The right to freedom of expression is entrenched in
international law through the following:
Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR):
"Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive
and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers" (UN 1948).
Article 19 of the International Covenant for Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR)
"1. Everyone shall have the right to hold opinions without interference. 2. Everyone shall have the right to freedom of expression; this right shall
include freedom to seek, receive and impart information and ideas of all kinds, regardless of frontiers, either orally, in writing or in print, in the form
of art, or through any other media of his choice" (UN 1976).
This human right is often restricted by states which use mechanisms such as censorship, restrictive media legislation, and the harassment and
persecution of journalists or bloggers. Some examples of NGOs that protect the freedom of expression are as follows:
Freedom House advocates for democracy, political freedom, and human rights. In its Freedom of Expression campaign, it provides financial and
technical assistance to advocates of free expression within individual countries. It also delegates experts to

Global Internet Censorship
What aspects of the internet make global censorship difficult? Why might a government be inclined to impose internet censorship on its citizens? Is
global internet censorship moral?
Internet Censorship has been a topic of much debate and growing concern in the past decade. According to the OpenNet Initiative, the number of
countries seeking to control access of content on the internet has been rising rapidly (Documenting Internet Content Filtering Worldwide n.d). Reporters

The second reason of protecting children would include keeping adult content from children and keeping the children safe from paedophiles. National
security is the other main reason why a country would be forced to impose internet censorship. The political sentiments of a country are likely to be
kept a secret by the government. On the other hand we do have countries like China whose suppression of important information has led to not only
national but international problems. 'The SARS crisis in 2004, and the contamination of the Songhua River in 2006, which affected millions of lives
in China and Russia, serve as particularly deadly examples' (New HRIC Report Details State Secrets System 2007). Terrorism is another reason. The
governments of most countries are keeping a strict watch out for any material posted on the internet linking to terrorism. 'The National Institute of
Justice defines computer crime as any illegal act for which knowledge of computer technology is used to commit the offence' (Stamatellos 2007:11).
On the fifth of July 2007, three "cyber–jihadis" who used the internet to urge Muslims to wage holy war on non–believers were jailed for between
six–and–a–half and ten years in the first case of its kind on Britain (Gulf News, 2007:20). The governments also censor content to protect the political
sentiments of the country. In Belarus, for example, 'in March 2006, several

It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia By George Orwell
Controlling, shaping and changing the general opinion fascinate me and the ability to give a voice to the voiceless has pushed me into learning the
artistries of the media world. I believe that communicating is a fundamental pillar of human experience; we have to communicate with each other
because, far from being a need or a survival instinct, media has evolved into something more than a visual aspect. Studying media at post 16 has
opened my eyes on how media has the power to create and stop social change. Doing a school project on "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" made me
realise what could happen if the medium through which information is transferred was controlled by the wrong establishment. After understanding that,

Trump's Argument Analysis
There are 3 consequences that I believe this article gives off. First, commercial bias toward what will increase viewers and advertiser revenue. For
example, when Trump proposes his idea of banning Muslim immigration. Second, news content is lighted and/ or dramatized to keep viewers tuned in.
This particular article is dramatized, especially when Trump shouts back to a reporter, "Are you from Mexico?". Thirdly, no matter how serious and
honest the article might be reporters and editors can and still "jump the gun" and propagate false information or even sometimes lie without taking any
time to fact check.
Since I choose the article to be about politics, the article mostly pertains to Framing. Any political issue that is shown to the public influences the way
people think of stuff and they way they perceive the situation. For instance, Trump situation. Trump has been changing so many people's mind about
certain things that they don't realise what's good or bad anymore. Mostly the people who agree and are on Trump side are white people. Trump has lead

The Political Spectrum Of The United States
Outside of the political spectrum, there is another group of organizations that have perhaps and even stronger grasp on the media than media regulators
themselves. The incredibly complex and well organized drug cartels that base themselves mostly in northern Mexico and along the coastline of the Gulf
of Mexico are in many ways the most influential organizations in the nation's media. As mentioned earlier, Mexican citizens were granted freedom of
the press in the 1857 Federal Constitution giving them expressional rights that closely resembled the United States' on paper. However, as the cartels
ran rampant throughout the country some indirect restrictions were put on these rights. The cartels employ ruthless violence and torture in order to
punish those who oppose them, including journalists and reporters who attempt to portray them in a negative light. Over the past decade "there have
been '172 attacks on press freedom, including nine journalists and two media workers killed'" (Hernandez–Garcia 2012). As a result, anyone reporting
on the drug wars is essentially risking his or her own life; a risk the majority of reporters are not willing to take. The fear of being found and captured
by the cartel is enough to cause a chilling effect among reporters and even stop some news outlets from reporting on the cartel's actions at all. That's
not to say that news of the cartels' actions doesn't get released to the public. Lepe summarized the media portrayals of the cartel as such:

The Use Of Bias In News Media
A tool used on a day–to–day basis to shape political discourse, most often used in news media. Bias is inclination or prejudice for or against one person
or group, especially in a way considered to be unfair (OxfordDictionaryPress, 2015). Three news articles have been chosen for analysis on the topic of
the MH–17, all with different opinions. The selected newspaper propaganda comes from ABC, Tribune and RT. One possible reason as to why these
newspapers have varying opinions is due to them having different owners. For example, Rupert Murdoch, the multi–national owner of media outlets'
newspapers generally have the same viewpoint due to Murdoch instructing how he wants the news heard from his papers. The most common ways the
news manipulate readers into telling their biased view of the story is through the use of language, the use of positive and negative words; selection and
omission, ignoring some details and including others; and bias through use of statistics and crowd counts, inflation of numbers. Although, writers can
also be oblivious to the use of bias because of their cultural beliefs. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Migrant Crisis
Since 2011, some 4.1 million refugees have fled from Syria in an attempt to find asylum in Europe. The NPR article written by Greg Myre, "The
Migrant Crisis," estimates that the total amount of Syrians who have been displaced is as high as 7.6 million. This has placed enormous pressure
of European countries to take in refugees, though many of these, especially the Eastern European bloc countries of Hungary, Croatia, and Serbia,
refuse to let the flood of migrants into their country. This has left millions of refugees stranded without a home, food, shelter, or hope. As early as
September of 2015, refugees have been denied access into Hungary, which could easily serve as a means of getting into Germany and Austria. To be
granted passage into Hungary, hundreds of people wait outside of a single white trailer with one door, being processed one by one. This has caused
many to feel trapped, and compelled them to seek asylum in Serbia, Slovenia, and Croatia. Many are attempting to head to Germany and Sweden,
where the governments have recently passed bills to insure thousands of refugees sanctuary. These Eastern European countries, however, are not able to
handle such an influx. Deep–seated ethnic rivalries, failing economies, and constant border disputes have made the Balkans an exceptionally difficult
region to travel through, and the pressure to take in refugees has placed even more pressure on countries, mainly Serbia and Croatia, and caused ethnic
rivalries to resurface.

After World War II, the Soviet Union and the United States split the Korean peninsula along the 38th parallel (38 degrees north latitude). This

Nigeria's Growing Influence Despite Conflicts

  • 1. Nigeria American Culture Nigeria has become the fastest growing country in Africa, its coastal ports are the heart and soul of its economy. Since its creation by the British Empire, there has been a civil breakdown and conflict among its tribal leaders. However, their religious understanding between Islam and Christianity has kept them at peace amidst themselves throughout time. The last few years, the government has developed itself into a functioning federation, the people are able to notice how outside influence has improved their daily lives. Nigeria is located in the Northwestern part of Africa and it rests on the Gulf of Guinea. Niger borders Nigeria to the north, while Cameroon borders to the south with Chad to the east. Nigeria covers over 356,670 square miles ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Moreover, the countries power grids remain incapable of maintaining such an influx in power consumption. Nigeria's power plants depend on technology that is far outdated for safe operations today. With cellular communications in such high demand and the services are expanding rapidly. Landline based telecommunications are unreliable are turned off without warning. Internet services have started to expand and changing the lifestyle of every person in Nigeria. People can to get access to the outside world which allows for the demand of new electronics and communication devices. There are two types of government under the federal level, local and state. However, all choices at the local level were decided at the state level until 1988. Although, the country is broken into 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory however, the capital city is Abuja. In the constitution, it says that additional states can be created as needed. • 2. The Pros And Cons Of Internet Censorship In the modern society issues of discrimination, inequality, and violation of human rights often arise. Pakistan and the United States are both an example of this act. For instance, many countries censor the internet, but few of the many countries tell their intentions as explicitly as Pakistan. Furthermore, President Trump may reshape DACA, the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival Program, which gave young people who had come to the United States illegally as kids a chance to work and study in the U.S. without the fear of deportation. Similarly, President Donald Trump and former president Imran Khan had a similar political slogan for their campaign. For example, Trump's campaign slogan was he will make "America Great Again" and Khan's slogan was that he would "Naya Pakistan" which means build the entire country anew. As a result, both want to attract the majority of the population by addressing the popular sentiment. Both the United States and Pakistan are making their countrys and citizens isolated; by Trump building the border wall and Khan and the government censoring the internet, destroying knowledge and opportunities. The internet is a powerful medium for news, books, information, and ideas. It has become a brand–new field for conflict about media freedom and censorship. For example, the Pakistan Government "recently published a public tender for the development deployment and operation of a national–level URL filtering and blocking system" (Sutton 1). • 3. Internet Censorship in China Essay In the United States, every child, teenager and adult uses Wikipedia, YouTube and Facebook, among numerous other sites, regularly. The internet is open and uncensored for the most part, other than parental controls. In China, most, if not all of those types of sites are or have been blocked. As in, you could not go to them, unless you found some way around the web filters and firewalls the Chinese government runs in their country. While China defends their practice of internet censorship, based on "protecting" the people, heavy internet censorship is a block to free speech and impedes economic and social development in the 21st century. China says it has its reasons for censoring its internet. Wang Chen, minister for the State Council... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The aim is to tighten political control and get Internet users to censor themselves by bringing them face to face with their censors or their agents."(Anonymous) Reporters without Boarders further talked of why these regulations present a new block for free speech. "What Netizen will dare to criticize the regime after meeting the person who could put them behind bars for one wrong word?"(Anonymous) Reporters Without Borders is further stating that someone who might talk about something the government might find questionable will not do it at all if that person is met by someone who could put them in prison. On the other hand, the US does not actively regulate the internet, relying on the public to regulate content on the internet, with little government intervention. The internet in the US is relatively open, whereas in China, information on the internet is suppressed based on what the Chinese government deems appropriate or inappropriate. Hillary Clinton, US Secretary of State, has stated, "Countries that heavily censor the 'Net are creating a new 'Information Curtain' to rival the old Iron Curtain of the Cold War era."(Anderson) Clinton talked more of the US's position on internet censorship. Further, "New technologies do not take sides," said Clinton. "But the United States does." The US supports an open internet. (Anderson) Corporations that move into China have long recognized that internet censorship is a fact of life. In 2006, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Analysis Of A Day Without A Mexican Imagine that one day, all of the Hispanic population just disappeared from the face of the earth, nowhere to be seen or found. The film, "A Day Without a Mexican" had that same plot, where the whole Hispanic population in California disappeared into thin air when a weird and mysterious fog surrounded the state (Artenstein & Arau, 2004). The film may had taken a humorous and satirical approach to the topic of Mexican immigrants and the overall treatment of the whole of the Hispanic population, but every joke that was made in the movie echoed the same problems and concerns that exist in reality. The film addressed many of the stereotypes and racism that surround the Hispanic and Mexican populations. The film also made apparent just how important Mexicans and Hispanics are to all aspects of society. Lastly, the film even attempts to cover what exactly makes someone a Mexican or Hispanic. One of the major stereotypes about Mexicans and Hispanics that was addressed was how all Hispanics must be Mexican (Artenstein & Arau, 2004). Every time a character was seen as Hispanic they were assumed to be Mexicans. This assumption could mostly be seen with the character Lila Rodriguez, the news reporter. Lila Rodriguez, before anyone knew about her actual origins, was an American citizen, and not Mexican or a Mexican immigrant. However, Lila did admit that she was Hispanic origin. Still, her colleagues and many of the other characters in the film still believed that she was a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Latin American Watchdogs Essay Nonetheless, this is a novel, but interesting experience for Latin American watchdogs. Indeed, more than a decade ago regional and national networks have been developed for strength both individual professional skills and media performance, particularly investigative proficiency. Among the institutions devoted to improving the crafting of journalism can be counted the Colombian–based FundaciГіn para el Nuevo Periodismo Iberoamericano (FNPI) and the Peruvian–based Instituto Prensa y Sociedad (IPYS), both reaching regional audiences and networks. Alongside these nodes of professional encounter, national associations of journalists have sprouted in countries such as Argentina, Brazil, and Colombia , especially oriented to improve investigative ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Building up, not only a contemporary interpretive community, but also a memory about investigative journalism in Latin American societies will require not only the good will of hundreds of reporters spread across the continent, but also institutional structures that support and provide continuity in the long–term. Therefore, crafting a situated conceptualization of Latin American investigative journalism(s) should pay attention not only to methods and procedures, but also to outcomes. That is, the actual exposГ©s that come all the way through the light not only because they straightforward follow strong and systematic steps, but overall because they overcome several practical obstacles and political economic conditions that overshadow eventual methodological shortcomings or unorthodox procedures and are crucial at certain critical moments in their societies. For example, in 1990, just a few months after a democratic government took office in Chile after 17 years of dictatorship, the in–depth TV news show, Informe Especial, broadcasted a very detailed story about human rights violations that has been rather well–known within human rights organizations, locally and internationally. However, it was the very first time that public broadcasting showed, fairly, on prime–time, the faces of the repression's victims, demonstrates the patterns of state brutality, and editorialized about crimes against humanities. The report was full of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Media 's Influence On The Media We are a world that revolves around our media outlets. This is because we depend on them to give to us the information that we need to be able to live our daily lives. Whether it is the news on politics or just events that are happening around your area. The real question though is has news changed? And the follow up question to that would be; how do historians think news has changed? The news media has changed throughout history because of the rise of technology. It is now possible to reach people that back in the day went by hear say information. Today's historians view the change in the media in different ways some think that the view on the media has changed because of the way we are taught about the media, the way the media reports news and how political factors influence the media. It seems like now day's people always have a negative view of the media but how is it that the younger generations already have a negative view of the media. This is because we are taught to have a negative view of the media. The media is not seen as a good thing but more like a necessary evil. Historians view the media in different ways but some think that the only reason that we view the media in such a negative light is because we are taught from a young age not to think highly of the media when it is the only thing that we have to give us news. Even though we do not like it we still watch, listen and read the news that is given to us. Joseph Pulitzer may be better known for having a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Why Should Illegal Immigrants Be Allowed To Stay In America Illegal immigrants should be allowed to stay in America. According to the dictionary definition, an illegal immigrant also known as an illegal alien is "a foreigner who enters a country without an entry or immigrant visa, especially a person who crosses the border by avoiding inspection or who overstays the period of time allowed as a visitor, tourist, or businessperson". From Renewing America, the U.S. immigration debate "Immigration has been a touchstone of the U.S. political debate for decades, as policymakers must weigh competing for economic, security, and humanitarian concerns. Congress has been unable to reach an agreement on comprehensive immigration reform for years, effectively moving some major policy decisions into the executive and judicial branches of government, and fueling debate in the halls of state and municipal governments. Meanwhile, the fates of an estimated eleven million undocumented immigrants in the country, as well as rules for legal immigration, lie in the balance"(Felter and Renwick). There are many arguments that support allowing illegal immigrants into America, because of this immigration has been a controversial issue for over so many years. According to SIRS knowledge source, some would argue that "unauthorized immigrants should be detained and deported for flouting the law", but on the other side, people would disagree with these accusations because, but "the vast majority of unauthorized immigrants are hard–working individuals in search ... • 12. How Did Trump Become Successful Regardless of a person's political affiliations, one thing everyone can agree on is the success of the Republican candidate for president, Donald J. Trump. To a casual observer of Trump's campaign, it may have looked like the entire process was chaotic and lacked unity; however, it was far from that. Donald Trump realized early on that he was not a politician and instead of lamenting on that fact, he turned it into a selling point. Trump used prior fame, unreasonable policies and misdirection to gain the vote of the largest voting demographic, the white Midwest working class. Fame, policy and misdirection were three ways Trump achieved success politically. When Trump first announced that he was running forPresident of the United States, everyone thought it was a joke. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... That was the key difference between himself and every other candidate. Other candidates took the time to check what they can and cannot feasibly do; Trump just blurted out slogans without thinking about the consequences. The most obvious example of that is the border wall with Mexico and who would be financially responsible for the construction of such a wall. Not once in his campaign did he give a well–explained response to how he will get Mexico to pay for the wall. He would use his experience as a successful businessman as a cover to misdirect the media. Misdirection of the media was a crucial element to Trump's success. He understood that his base did not agree with mainstream media therefore, he was not afraid to fight the media. If he was asked a question he did not like, he would deflect the question and turn it around on the interviewer. This practice was used throughout his entire campaign and even through his current presidency. Last week he was asked a question by a Jewish reporter about the recent bomb threats made to synagogues around the country. The reporter was very respectful and stressed that he was not insinuating that Trump was anti–semitic, but rather some of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Why Did So Many Immigrants Come To America Immigration Many people wonder why immigrants come to America. Most immigrants come across border for freedom, others for money, but most of the time it's for their religion. A lot of people run away and come to America because they want 'Refuge' AKA (Protection). Opportunities In order to cross the border you have to have a passport, or a special pass of some sort. Most people aren't even supposed to come to the United States so they "risk" their lives to come here. One main reason Immigrants come to America is for better opportunities. Reason being is, they would make way more money in the united states than what they would be making in Mexico or wherever they came from. They may seem desperate but they're really not, they just want a better life. In the year of 2015 reporters say over 350,000 immigrants arrived in europe sea compared to the 2014 year. Within that 350,000; 2,600 0f them died or were found dead. In July of this year 203 migrants died with the start to the end of that month. From another point of view, this assumption could prove problematic on its own. Although North Korea could rank low on the Power Distance Index due to the communist emphasis on equality and minimizing status differences (Birnbaum–More, Wong and Olve, 1995), it is notable that the Power Distance Index is malleable and can shift in the face of ideological pressures (McGrath, MacMillan, Yang, Tsai, 1992) i.e. the communist regime in North Korea. Hence the people are reluctant to question authority and the fear to disagree is substantial (Birnbaum–More et al., 1995). Figurative Language In The Devil's Highway In The Devil's Highway by Luis Alberto Urrea, the author retells a story of a group of immigrants who attempted to cross the border from Mexico into America. Throughout the novel, Urrea uses figurative language and syntax to prove the meaning that in order to grow as a community, there needs to be unity; making quick judgements about others can prevent people from uniting together. Towards the beginning of the novel, Urrea describes how the bodies of those who died crossing the border are treated in inspections for reports. He states, "Some reports wittily call these men Juan Does. Jane Doe becomes Juana Doe" (Urrea 36). The reporters generalize those who died crossing the border which makes their insensible treatment seem less degrading because their audience cannot relate to them. In unison with the second sentence in the quote, it is communicated that many people do not take the time to realize that these people crossing the border are no different than themselves, and they simply ignore the fact that these people also had responsibilities and families to care for. As stated in the quote, this is "a story of the heart," because behind every man and women that try to cross the border, there is a story. The Involvement Of Boko Haram Intimidation is a strategy aimed at convincing the population that the government is too weak to stop them and thus, forces the populous to comply as the terrorist organization wishes. This strategy has been utilized to aide recruitment. Boko Haram began to receive attention in 2003 when it launched attacks against police stations. The organization continued to attack police stations for a few years, primarily to steal arms and ammunition, but also because they understood that these were targets with high success rates. Not only did these targets provide weapons for Boko Haram, but it also increased their recruitment, due to the government 's inability to suppress the attacks. This strategy proved that the group was strong enough to repress the government and work towards achieving a goal of a traditional Muslim society (Elkaim). Historically, kidnapping has shown to provide significant financial resources for perpetrators. Furthermore, unlike hostage taking, does not limit the perpetrators options, is generally not public, and compels the third party to act in their favor. This is a strategy often utilized, successfully, by Boko Haram. The U.S. has estimated that they have received nearly 1 million a year from ransoms (threat report). Herbert suggests that the source often leads but journalists commonly object to this notion for 2 reasons: o It signals source supremacy in news making. o It offends journalists' professional culture, which emphasizes independence and editorial ... • 34. Ngos And Freedom Of Expression Essay NGOs and Freedom of Expression NGOs are significant actors in defending the human right to freedom of expression worldwide. The right to freedom of expression is entrenched in international law through the following: Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR): "Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers" (UN 1948). Article 19 of the International Covenant for Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) "1. Everyone shall have the right to hold opinions without interference. 2. Everyone shall have the right to freedom of expression; this right shall include freedom to seek, receive and impart information and ideas of all kinds, regardless of frontiers, either orally, in writing or in print, in the form of art, or through any other media of his choice" (UN 1976). This human right is often restricted by states which use mechanisms such as censorship, restrictive media legislation, and the harassment and persecution of journalists or bloggers. Some examples of NGOs that protect the freedom of expression are as follows: Freedom House advocates for democracy, political freedom, and human rights. In its Freedom of Expression campaign, it provides financial and technical assistance to advocates of free expression within individual countries. It also delegates experts to ... • 35. Global Internet Censorship What aspects of the internet make global censorship difficult? Why might a government be inclined to impose internet censorship on its citizens? Is global internet censorship moral? Internet Censorship has been a topic of much debate and growing concern in the past decade. According to the OpenNet Initiative, the number of countries seeking to control access of content on the internet has been rising rapidly (Documenting Internet Content Filtering Worldwide n.d). Reporters Without Borders published a list of thirteen countries as 'internet enemies' in 2006. The list consisted of Belarus, Burma, China, Cuba, Egypt, Iran, North Korea, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Tunisia, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Vietnam (List of the 13 Internet Enemies in... National security is the other main reason why a country would be forced to impose internet censorship. The political sentiments of a country are likely to be kept a secret by the government. On the other hand we do have countries like China whose suppression of important information has led to not only national but international problems. 'The SARS crisis in 2004, and the contamination of the Songhua River in 2006, which affected millions of lives in China and Russia, serve as particularly deadly examples' (New HRIC Report Details State Secrets System 2007). Terrorism is another reason. The governments of most countries are keeping a strict watch out for any material posted on the internet linking to terrorism. 'The National Institute of Justice defines computer crime as any illegal act for which knowledge of computer technology is used to commit the offence' (Stamatellos 2007:11). On the fifth of July 2007, three "cyber–jihadis" who used the internet to urge Muslims to wage holy war on non–believers were jailed for between six–and–a–half and ten years in the first case of its kind on Britain (Gulf News, 2007:20). The governments also censor content to protect the political sentiments of the country. In Belarus, for example, 'in March 2006, several ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia By George Orwell Controlling, shaping and changing the general opinion fascinate me and the ability to give a voice to the voiceless has pushed me into learning the artistries of the media world. I believe that communicating is a fundamental pillar of human experience; we have to communicate with each other because, far from being a need or a survival instinct, media has evolved into something more than a visual aspect. Studying media at post 16 has opened my eyes on how media has the power to create and stop social change. Doing a school project on "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" made me realise what could happen if the medium through which information is transferred was controlled by the wrong establishment. After understanding that, I became more interested in how the media can be made free from oppression and only be used for the right causes.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His novel is considered as a warning to the masses but when comparing his social commentary to today's society, I would not even consider his book as a warning to the masses but I would consider it as a survival guide in our always more totalitarian world. One of my greatest extracurricular achievements was working in partnership with the Thames Valley Police and a local radio station (Radio Wexham) to deliver a documentary about homophobia so that we could sensibilise teenagers on a controversial topic. Being selected by a radio station for such an important project not only gave me the opportunity to have a real insight of the media business but it was also my turning point, being in such environment is what made me realised my love for the ... • 37. Trump's Argument Analysis There are 3 consequences that I believe this article gives off. First, commercial bias toward what will increase viewers and advertiser revenue. For example, when Trump proposes his idea of banning Muslim immigration. Second, news content is lighted and/ or dramatized to keep viewers tuned in. This particular article is dramatized, especially when Trump shouts back to a reporter, "Are you from Mexico?". Thirdly, no matter how serious and honest the article might be reporters and editors can and still "jump the gun" and propagate false information or even sometimes lie without taking any time to fact check. Since I choose the article to be about politics, the article mostly pertains to Framing. Any political issue that is shown to the public influences the way people think of stuff and they way they perceive the situation. For instance, Trump situation. Trump has been changing so many people's mind about certain things that they don't realise what's good or bad anymore. Mostly the people who agree and are on Trump side are white people. Trump has lead so many whites to start discriminating and being racist all over again. Trump himself has attacked every race out ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In my opinion, I see both of this article as it is, meaning I believe every word of it and agree with both Mr.Pena Nieto, Fox, Pope Francis, Anne Frank's sister and many more. I do see how they would compare Trump to Hitler. For example, Trumps plan to ban Muslims from entering the U.S, takes me thinking back to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. The Political Spectrum Of The United States Outside of the political spectrum, there is another group of organizations that have perhaps and even stronger grasp on the media than media regulators themselves. The incredibly complex and well organized drug cartels that base themselves mostly in northern Mexico and along the coastline of the Gulf of Mexico are in many ways the most influential organizations in the nation's media. As mentioned earlier, Mexican citizens were granted freedom of the press in the 1857 Federal Constitution giving them expressional rights that closely resembled the United States' on paper. However, as the cartels ran rampant throughout the country some indirect restrictions were put on these rights. The cartels employ ruthless violence and torture in order to punish those who oppose them, including journalists and reporters who attempt to portray them in a negative light. Over the past decade "there have been '172 attacks on press freedom, including nine journalists and two media workers killed'" (Hernandez–Garcia 2012). As a result, anyone reporting on the drug wars is essentially risking his or her own life; a risk the majority of reporters are not willing to take. The fear of being found and captured by the cartel is enough to cause a chilling effect among reporters and even stop some news outlets from reporting on the cartel's actions at all. That's not to say that news of the cartels' actions doesn't get released to the public. Lepe summarized the media portrayals of the cartel as such: ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Since entering politics, AAH has not fulfilled its vow to halt armed resistance, instead continuing to carry out sectarian violence, execute homophobic attacks, slaughter women alleged to be prostitutes, and threaten the "interests" of Western countries participating in strikes in Syria (United Against Nuclear Iran, n.d.). • 40. The Use Of Bias In News Media A tool used on a day–to–day basis to shape political discourse, most often used in news media. Bias is inclination or prejudice for or against one person or group, especially in a way considered to be unfair (OxfordDictionaryPress, 2015). Three news articles have been chosen for analysis on the topic of the MH–17, all with different opinions. The selected newspaper propaganda comes from ABC, Tribune and RT. One possible reason as to why these newspapers have varying opinions is due to them having different owners. For example, Rupert Murdoch, the multi–national owner of media outlets' newspapers generally have the same viewpoint due to Murdoch instructing how he wants the news heard from his papers. The most common ways the news manipulate readers into telling their biased view of the story is through the use of language, the use of positive and negative words; selection and omission, ignoring some details and including others; and bias through use of statistics and crowd counts, inflation of numbers. Although, writers can also be oblivious to the use of bias because of their cultural beliefs. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 41. The Migrant Crisis Since 2011, some 4.1 million refugees have fled from Syria in an attempt to find asylum in Europe. The NPR article written by Greg Myre, "The Migrant Crisis," estimates that the total amount of Syrians who have been displaced is as high as 7.6 million. This has placed enormous pressure of European countries to take in refugees, though many of these, especially the Eastern European bloc countries of Hungary, Croatia, and Serbia, refuse to let the flood of migrants into their country. This has left millions of refugees stranded without a home, food, shelter, or hope. As early as September of 2015, refugees have been denied access into Hungary, which could easily serve as a means of getting into Germany and Austria. To be granted passage into Hungary, hundreds of people wait outside of a single white trailer with one door, being processed one by one. This has caused many to feel trapped, and compelled them to seek asylum in Serbia, Slovenia, and Croatia. Many are attempting to head to Germany and Sweden, where the governments have recently passed bills to insure thousands of refugees sanctuary. These Eastern European countries, however, are not able to handle such an influx. Deep–seated ethnic rivalries, failing economies, and constant border disputes have made the Balkans an exceptionally difficult region to travel through, and the pressure to take in refugees has placed even more pressure on countries, mainly Serbia and Croatia, and caused ethnic rivalries to resurface. ... • 42. North Korea Research Paper After World War II, the Soviet Union and the United States split the Korean peninsula along the 38th parallel (38 degrees north latitude). This resulted of the official created on North Korea, officially known as the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, in 1948. Tensions continued to rise between the two parts of the peninsula, as each side claimed to have the right to control the entire area of land. In 1950, North Korea invaded South Korea under the leadership of Kim Il Sung, thus beginning the Korean War. The war resulted in over 2.5 million deaths. Ever since an armistice agreement was signed in 1953, North Korea has been blocked from the rest of the world. After the armistice agreement was signed, Kim Il Sung shaped North Korea to his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... First of all, other countries must work with the Koreas in order to make sure the meetings continue and run smoothly. Without meetings, no progress can be made. This measure is already in the works for being implemented: "Both Kim and Moon will seek meetings with the United States and possibly China – both of them parties to the ceasefire – 'with a view to declaring an end to the War and establishing a permanent and solid peace regime'" (Smith). China and the United States had involvement in the Korean War, which makes them the countries best suited to hold meetings with Korean leaders. They are aware of just how severe the problem is, and with that knowledge, representatives from each respective country will be able to meet peacefully and successfully. The occurrence of these meetings is likely – a liaison office, where future discussions will be held, is in the process of being set up. Furthermore, families who were separated by the peninsula's division will be reunited. (Smith). Increased contact with people from across the border will enable North Koreans to reconnect with lost family members and discover more about the true, unaltered story of their country. As this is part of the overall plan of the peninsula's reunification, frequent meetings with the United States and China will assist in moving this initiative forward. The second aspect ...
