This book is a feel good story called The Wonderful Wizard of OZ written by L. Frank Baum. The
story starts and ends in Kansas but the majority of the story takes place in the land of OZ. The
time period of the book is irrelevant. Dorothy is a girl who used to live in Kansas and her house
got carried away to a mystical land and she needs to get to the wizard to get her back home. Toto
is Dorothy's beloved dog who she takes everywhere. Scarecrow is the first friend she encounters
along the way to the wizard. On her way she also meets the 'Tin Man', and the 'Cowardly Lion'.

But the Lion had the travelers get on his back and jumped across the ditch. Then they faced a
field of deadly poppies(a plant that makes you fall asleep). Dorothy and Toto and the Lion fell
into a very deep sleep. Since the scarecrow and the 'Tin Woodman' didn't have human features they
carried Dorothy and her dog out of the field. The Lion was too heavy so they got help from
thousands of field mice . When they finally got to emerald city they had to wear goggles ('Green
Spectacles') because the city was too bright otherwise they would go blind. They wanted to see
Oz but they learned that he only visits you on separate days. They all encountered different forms
of Oz, so that all of them were scared of him. They were all told that they had to kill the 'Wicked
Witch of the West'. They all thought they were incapable of killing her but they set off on their
journey . Their journey was hard because the Wicked Witch knew they were coming. So she set
troubles on their way but they were able to overcome her. Then she sent the baboons that were
bound to a golden cap that the witch had. The owner of the cap could put in on and ask for three
favors. The witch asked for the baboons to kill all of the companions. They pretty much killed the
scarecrow and the Tinman. They could not lay a hand on Dorothy since she had a seal of protection
from the Witch of the North, so they made her work in the kitchen.

work together cohesively to make this film the success that it was. Without the differences in color,
the acting that was done, along with the props and other elements this film would not have

home, and seeing her Auntie Em in the crystal ball we could have made the assumption that she

shoes. In the film, Dorothy takes the ruby red slippers off a dead woman's body. They were just so
beautiful, she just could not resist desecrating a dead woman. When the Wicked Witch of the West
appears, she does not become angry over the death of her sister, but over the fact that Dorothy stole

The beginning scene which takes place in Kansas was filmed in sepia toned black and white. This
lends to the feeling of Dorothy's dreary life and the impending tornado. The magic begins when she

Technicolor had been around since 1916. Previously it had been only the two–strip method. The
advances in the 1930's produced a three–strip method, which produced deeper, brighter colors. It was

In the movie The Wizard of Oz, based on the novel written by L. Frank Baum, the type of conflict
can be labeled as person versus self because Dorothy wishes she lived in a place where there was
no trouble, but she doesn't realize herself that there is no place better than home, which is the
main conflict. The protagonist of the story is Dorothy and the antagonist is Dorothy's thoughts
and wants, because Dorothy wants to live in a place where there is no trouble, a place over the
rainbow, and isn't conscious of how she already lives in a great place full of people who love her.

Have you ever wondered why The Wizard of Oz books was so good. The author of these books,
Frank L. Baum puts time and devotion into the details of the land of Oz. Baum wrote many
different Oz books, but none of them were like the Wonderful Wizard of Oz. The Wonderful
Wizard of Oz is a book about a girl named Dorothy who got traveled to the land of Oz with her dog
Toto through a tornado. She eventually finds her way home. I believe the author's style contributed
to the literary work in a positive way.
One implement that Frank L. Baum did well was showing conflict. Conflict is a struggle between
two opposing forces. For example, Dorothy's first conflict was that she was stuck in the Land of
Oz. Also each character that joined her along her journey, had their own conflicts which were
resolved by the end of the book. I believe that this is a good style of conflict because it shows a
conflict within a conflict. This makes the book more exciting by adding more suspense. One of
these conflicts is shown through the Scarecrow, "As for the Scarecrow , having no brains he
walked straight ahead, and so stepped into the holes and fell at full length on the hard bricks."
Because he had no brains he was mentally at a disadvantage. I understand that Frank's use of conflict
is very effective and exciting.

The concept of home might differ according to each protagonist's gender. It revolves around two

Dorothy says from the beginning that the return to her Aunt Em is her first ambition and this makes
her bear all the difficulties in the journey. This mixing in emotions towards home and mother is
natural as each of them represents the other in the child's unconsciousness. Dorothy worries about
how Aunt Em might be anxious about her whereabouts. One of the saddest moments in the novel
is when she realizes that her return to Kansas is almost impossible. The Wizard of Oz asks her to
kill the horrible Witch of West; an action could not be achieved by him. Her weeping reveals how
she misses her aunt and uncle.
Dorothy's life became very sad as she grew to understand that it would be harder than ever to get
back to Kansas and Aunt Em again. Sometimes she would cry bitterly for hours, with Toto sitting at
her feet looking into her face, whining dismally to show how sorry he was for his little mistress.
Toto did not really care whether he was in Kansas or the Land of Oz so long as Dorothy was with
him; but he knew the little girl was unhappy, and that made him unhappy too.

years, it's hard to say that the film is just a film. It has been transformed from mild box office
showing to must–see annual TV event to timeless pop culture legend. This film was first brought it
into our households on November 3, 1956. Its legacy still remains today. There were many different
scenes and characters throughout the film. Characters in the movie trust Dorothy instantly. She is a
caring person who is hard to dislike because Dorothy Gale is the main character in The Wizard of Oz
. She lives in the Kansas with her Uncle Henry, who was a farmer, and Aunt Em, who was the
farmer's wife. Dorothy has a dog named Toto who is her closest friend and makes her laugh. After
the tornado carries her to the land of Oz, all she wants to do is get home to Kansas. Dorothy
compassionate to the Scarecrow and Tinman. Dorothy shows courage when the Lion tries to bite
Toto. She doesn't want to kill the Wicked Witch of the West, even if it is the only way she can get
home to Kansas again.

1965. L. Frank Baum was born near Chittenango, New York in 1856. Frank grew up with a heart
condition so he couldn't play physically like other children so he developed a creative side, so he
decided to write stories.
The setting of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz was set in with a happy society with some upsetting
problems. The story was set in the 1950's, the story started in Kansas and then it moved into a
wonderful place called Oz. Dorothy lived in Kansas and grown up with her Aunt Em, Uncle Henry,

While she was following the yellow brick road she met up with the tin woodsman, scarecrow, and
the cowardly lion and they all became great friends. They all traveled together because they were
all trying to find the Wonderful Wizard of Oz. During their trip they did run into some minor
complications and the main conflict was introduced when the wicked witch tried everything to
stop them from getting to the Emerald City. But then one day they finally made it to the wizard
and they told the wizard what they wished for and the wizard said that he couldn't grant any
wished until you get the broom of the wicked witch of the West. Finally, they achieved the
Wizards wish, so they got there's. The most exciting part of the story was when they found the
Emerald City and when they each had there wish come true. So when Dorothy gets to go home,
Tin man gets his heart, lion gets his courage, and last but not least the scarecrow gets a brain is
when the outcome of the plot comes into place. The ending of the story was very happy because
everyone got what he or she wished for.
The tone of the book changes within locations and characters in this book. The book begins when
she is in Kansas with her Aunt and Uncle and then she goes to the Land of Oz, and she was so
happy there. She didn't really want to leave because of all the friends she had made but then on the

DISCUSSION OF PLOT
In the film The Wizard of Oz, the main character, Dorothy, comes to a realization that there is no
place like home. Dorothy yearns to go out to see the world when she first runs away, she wants
something better than she already has. After her journey in the land Oz fighting off of a Witch
who is attacking her at every chance she can, she then truly realizes how blessed and wonderful
her life back in Kansas really is. A good example of this in real life are lottery winners. There's a
bunch of cases where lottery winners wished that they never won because of the people who try to
take advantage of them or how it ruins family relationships.
This realization is important to the plot because it completes her heroine's journey throughout her
journey. Dorothy first takes on a masculine role by running away from home in attempt to save
her dog Toto, which separates her away from her Aunt. Then she is sent by a tornado to Oz,
where on her way she meets her allies, the Scarecrow, Tin Man, and the Lion. While on the Yellow
Brick Road she faces multiple trails against trees, and the Wicked Witch of the West. Then she
experiences success by finally making it to Emerald City and meeting the Wizard. Dorothy is
excited to finally be brought home, however she isn't able to because Wizard has a request for her to
fulfill first. After that
