Abstract
Empowerment is a process that helps people gain control over their own lives, communities and
society. It is also a process, which enables one to realise his or her identity and power in all aspects
of life. Empowerment occurs within, the factors– social, economic, political, personal, familial, and
cultural at various spheres. Empowering women puts the spotlight on equality in education,
employment which is an essential element to sustainable development. This paper looks at the
literature around the various studies done on women empowerment through self help groups (SHGs)
.It will be useful to follow researchers who are undertaking studies in this area. This paper reviews
literatures on empowerment process through SHG as well as other related literature such as on the
ongoing approaches, existing demission, and various levels of empowerment. The study has been
done on the basis of the following issues.1) women empowerment in general 2) Women
empowerment concepts and meaning. 3) Importance of Women Empowerment. 4) Dimensions of
women empowerment: Economic, Social, Political and psychological aspects 5) Women

Women's participation in sports has a long history. It is a history marked by division and

One fundamental way in which technology is often expressed in any society is through gender. The
relationship between technology and gender has been theorized through decades due to the fact that
the social struggles for equality between men and women are a contemporary topical issue. Lately,
there has been an increase in the strength of the women's movement advocating matters on women's
equality and empowerment. Amongst these issues is women's invisibility in all aspects of
technology. Some individuals view technology as neutral (Faulkner 2001: 90) but those who reject
that notion view technology as a socially defined concept. Feminist technology studies understand
technology to be socially constructed due to the concept of gender socialization; technology is
socially constructed in conjunction with gender. Gender socialization refers to the range of social
process in which men and women learn their gender roles. It often takes place in families, daycare
centers, schools and within the media. Men and women are socialized into different gender roles,
which are culturally produced. Historically, technology was defined as a masculine concept
(Wajcman 2000: 447) even though the tasks that woman were forced to take on in the past
involved a high degree of skill. This debate is looked at through a variety of perspectives, one being
the feminist point of view as it involves norms guiding the social positions of women.

Gender Inequality And Womens And Empowerment
In world history, gender inequality and women's and empowerment have been an ongoing battle
of victories and setbacks, especially for women. Women are disproportionately affected by
gender inequality; they are often looked at with pity or a need to be protected from the outside
world. This desire to protect women has evolved into a culture of restriction, when it comes to
what women can and cannot do in their day to day lives. The Middle East is especially susceptible
to devaluing women in society. The states that operate within this grouping are dominated by
patriarchal societies that raise men and their standards above those of women. In Iran women have
a difficult time making a name for themselves and are often left feeling very helpless and alone.
Sometimes women have to fight just to be heard and are often silenced by the government in an
attempt to level the playing field between the sexes. Ironically, in Bahrain the government appears to
be in favor of women and establishing them as equals with their male counterparts. Yet, once inside
of the country, it does not take long to realize this is not necessarily the case. It goes to show that
just having laws in place that "protect" women is not enough to make a society shift their sexist
views towards women in general. It takes an entire state changing their personal views in order to

Women and children, who represent more than two–thirds (67.7%) of the country's total population,
constitute the most important target group in the context of the present day developmental planning.

In order to empower the rural poor especially the women, female workers must first empower
themselves.Batilwala has identified three approaches to women's empowerment :the integrated
development approach, which focused on women's survival and livelihood needs; the economic
development approach, which aimed to women's economic position; and the consciousness
approach, which organized women into collectives that address the source of oppression.
The consciousness raising approach asserts that women's empowerment requires awareness of the
complex factors causing women's subordination. This approach organized women into collectives
that tackle the sources of subordination (ASTHA, Deccan Development Society, Mahila Samakhya,
WOP in India, and Nigera Kori in Bangladesh).
The Female empowerment approach stresses the capacity of women to increase their self reliance
and internal strength. The empowerment approach to women's advancement in developing countries
recognizes that the patriarchal structure of subordination must be addressed through women's
organizations at the grass– root level. Such local groups can facilitate bottom up change by providing
a social mechanism to raise women's consciousness about their subordination.

From the beginning the women of "Trifles" by Susan Glaspell do not seem to have a significant
role in the play. These women appear to just be along for the ride while their husbands do the dirty
work of searching through the crime scene. In the end even though they serve as secondary
characters to their husbands, Mrs. Hale and Mrs. Peters play a large role in portraying the theme of
this play, and without them the plot would not have been conducted nearly the same way to get the
message out to the audience.
As soon as the county attorney, the sheriff, his wife and Mr. and Mrs. Hale walk into the Wrights

The bread has been left out of the bread box, the kitchen table had not been cleaned, the quilt that she
had been working on was unfinished and poorly stitched, and lastly the bird was missing from the
cage. After further investigation the women come to the conclusion that there was something wrong
going on in the Wright household that caused their house to be so chaotic.
Once the investigation starts one would think that the men would be the ones to solve the
investigation, when in reality they are too caught up on the stereotypes of women during this time
period and completely overlook the evidence as "trifles". The men instead decide skip looking
through the kitchen and instead to do the majority of their investigating in barn and the bedroom
because during this time period these are places where men would feel dominant over women.
After some deep thought Mrs. Hale's comment "I wonder if she was goin' to quilt it or just knot it?"
(1416): finally makes sense. The women were not referring to the quilt, but were instead referring to
Mrs. Wright hanging Mr. Wright. The men obviously were not very observant or well versed with
quilting terminology otherwise they could have easily deciphered this phrase and known that the
women had figured out the motive for the murder.

Women's empowerment is vital to sustainable development and the realization of human rights for
all. Where women's status is low, family size tends to be large, which makes it more difficult for
families to thrive. Population and development and reproductive health programmes are more
effective when they address the educational opportunities, status and empowerment of women. When
women are empowered, whole families benefit, and these benefits often have ripple effects to future
generations. The roles that men and women play in society are not biologically determined – they
are socially determined, changing and changeable. Although they may be justified as being required
by culture or religion, these roles vary widely by locality and change over time. Key issues and
linkages: 1)Reproductive health: Women, for both physiological and social reasons, are more
vulnerable than men to reproductive health problems. Reproductive health problems, including
maternal mortality and morbidity, represent a major – but preventable – cause of death and
disability for women in developing countries. Failure to provide information, services and conditions
to help women protect their reproduction health therefore constitutes gender–based discrimination
and a violation of women's rights to health and life. 2)
