2. Organizational design ?
It is a step-by-step process of
identifying problems in the organization
developing solutions
implementing them to solve the existing
problems
3. Importance of organizational design
Good organizational structure and design helps improve
communication, increase productivity, and inspire innovation. It creates
an environment where people can work effectively. Most productivity
and performance issues can be attributed to poor organizational
design.
4. Steps for successful organizational design
1. Diagnose and agree on a clearly defined organizational problem
(i.e., what are we solving for) across key stakeholders (e.g.,
executives, customers, unions, suppliers, etc.)
2. Define the space/strategy that will be impacted, including expected
metric movement
3. Define the services and value-add to be provided, creating design
criteria as the outcome
5. 4. Describe the processes needed to offer these services and calculate
total workload for required tasks
5. Define the organization (leveling, headcount, skill mix, etc.) needed
to deliver these services in context of available resources and test vs.
design criteria
6. Outline handoffs and connecting mechanisms to other organizations
7. Plan and execute the creation of the organization, sequencing
communications and aligning talent to roles
6. Failure in organizational design
If any mistakes are were made while completing the above steps then
the organization design becomes a failure
