11. Confucianism is often characterized as a system of social and ethical
philosophy rather than a religion. In fact, Confucianism built on an ancient
religious foundation to establish the social values, institutions, and
transcendent ideals of traditional Chinese society.
The founder of Confucianism, Master Kong (Confucius, 551-479 B.C.E.)
did not intend to found a new religion, but to interpret and revive the
unnamed religion of the Zhou dynasty
12. Li is a concept within Confucianism that dictates how those who
practice it should prioritize their lives. The five relationships of
Confucianism fall under the concept of Li, which is based on the
philosophy of Confucius that a healthy life required a structured society.
DOCTRINE: the earliest and most famous of the works ascribed to
Confucius? It's the Book of Changes, which first introduced the concept of
yin and yang, the two complementary energies of the cosmos.

13. Yinyang
Japanese in-yō, in Eastern thought, the two
complementary forces that make up all aspects and
phenomena of life. Yin is a symbol of earth,
femaleness, darkness, passivity, and absorption. It is
present in even numbers, in valleys and streams, and
is represented by the tiger, the colour orange, and a
broken line. Yang is conceived of as heaven, maleness,
light, activity, and penetration. It is present in odd
numbers, in mountains, and is represented by the
dragon, the colour azure, and an unbroken line.

A father is loving to his son, and the son demonstrates
reverence to his father.
Confucius says that a father must display love and
kindness toward his son, while the son should display
obedience and reverence toward his father.

A husband should be good to his wife, and his wife
should, in turn, be obedient.
A healthy relationship is where there is communication. Husband and
wife both discuss almost everything with each other before taking any
decision. They also communicate about their problems, their emotions,
their needs and desires. A healthy relationship is where there is no
cheating involved of any kind.

To Confucius, a good ruler is benevolent, and the ruler’s
subjects are loyal.
Confucius says that the husband in a marriage should
behave righteously to merit humility and a respectful
obedience from his wife.

An older sibling should be gentle to younger siblings, and
younger siblings should be respectful of their older

anxiety. Even good or wanted changes can be as stressful as unwanted
