27. Towards a typology of the Common social space
In many islands of the Cyclades in Greece, the custom of ‘Panygiri’ remains strong to this day.
On inaccessible sometimes parts of the islands, often on the top of a mountain, a chapel exists which is
being viewed as a common good of great social significance. The chapel contains a kitchen and ample space
outdoors for communal celebrations, usually on the occasion of the saint’s nameday. One family undertakes
the cost of the preparations on rotation and everyone is invited to the festivity.

The Minga tradition of the Andean indigenous peoples.
Minga refers to collaborative work for the benefit of the entire community of a town or village.
Community members, friends and neighbors volunteer their time, effort, and sometimes funds to
achieve a shared goal, for example constructing a new home, harvesting the fields or repairing a road.
Minga often refers to the physical structure of a community house as well.
