(PPP Model)
•1. Deductive Approach
•2. Inductive Approach
2 General Approaches:
•It’s a modern method in teaching grammar.
•Coined by Donn Byrne in his first edition of
Teaching Oral Language, 1976
•A “soft” approach to CLT, combining CLT and
traditional approaches.
PPP
(Presentation, Practice, Production)
Presentation Phase
In this stage, teacher will present the
language component using a
context.
It could be in a sentence, short text
or a short dialogue.
The teacher elicits and asks
questions to draw students attention
to the form.
Students try to notice the rule and
they will infer and understand the
use.
Practice Phase
In this stage, the focus is merely on
the form.
Students try to practice,
comprehend and master the
grammar lesson being taught.
Some researchers say that the main
focus of practice is ACCURACY.
(Grammar Correctness)
Teachers have to monitor, check and
help if someone has encountered a
problem.
Production Phase
• Students have to speak and
produce something.
• They have to use the component.
• The focus is on fluency.
Production Phase
Activities:
• Board games
• Role plays
• Completion type activities
Production Phase
Teacher’s roles here are to monitor,
help and guide.
