Students read the book "F is for Flag" and reviewed an interactive flag website to learn facts about the American flag. They then wrote letters to the president sharing one fact they learned and decorated their own flags. This multi-disciplinary activity incorporated reading, writing, social studies, and math skills for young learners.

1. Flag Day Letters

Brief Description: In this literature response activity, my students and I read the book F is for
flag. We also reviewed the interactive flag on:

After having read and reviewed the information, students then wrote a letter to the president
telling one fact that they learned about the flag. They also colored their own flags and decorated
the strips with red glitter. This activity incorporates a variety of skills (reading informational and
literature texts, friendly letter writing, and social studies skills, math skills-counting the stars and
stripes) that stretch across content areas for young learners.
