This class calendar lesson shows how to adapt different resources from TpT and SMARTBoard lessons to create a good "Morning Calendar" activity for your kindergarten or first grade class.
2. MY SMARTBOARD LESSON
• The SMARTBoard lesson I have selected is the “Morning Calendar”. I have seen a
similar concept used without technology. Students come in and do calendar work as
well as work on some basic skills.

3. TARGET LEARNERS
I would use this lesson for kindergarten. This has mostly math skills and some
language arts skills. This calendar work would be done every morning as the one of
the first activities of the day.
4. ATTENDANCE
When students would walk into the
classroom, they would drag their name
from the “home” column to the “school”
column. I would then use this to mark
attendance. It lets students distinguish
their name as well as gives them
responsibility.
After this, we would mark the total
students, absent and present students to
practice math skills.
5. ATTENTION GETTER
After all of the students have gotten to
school, marked their name and done any
morning activities, I would sing this song
in order to get all of the students
attention and so they know that it is time
for school to begin.

6. UNIVERSAL DESIGN
This activity uses Universal design by…
*incorporating different styles of teaching and learning
*math and counting work, writing as well as singing and listening
*utilizing different resources
*SMARTBoard, paper and pencil, observation
It also allows students to freely ask for help from other students at the table. This
increases interaction between a variety of peers.
7. CALENDAR WORK
A little later, we would work in the
calendar tab.
I would have a helper to correctly identify
and write the date as well as announcing
any special occasions (birthdays, picture
days, etc.).
Then as a class we would do the tabs
about yesterday, today and tomorrow at
the bottom.
All of this will allow my students to be
better acquainted with the calendar.
8. WEATHER
After this I would have my weather
person help me identify the current
weather. This helps build science
concepts later on. The we would mark on
the bottom what the weather was like.
9. PATTERNS AND MATH
This would be the final slide. Everyday I
would create a new pattern on top and
select a student to drag the next
appropriate shape into the space.
I would use the counting blocks below to
count days of school and we would drag
the appropriate number of blocks, rods
and cubes. For example the 47th day
would have 0 blocks, 4 rods and 7 cubes.
10. FOLLOWING ALONG
I found this calendar journal on
TeachersPayTeachers.com for free. On
some days, I would have students follow
along on this calendar sheet. They can
document all of the calendar work and
practice without being the calendar
helper.
