8. PORTER’S FIVE FORCE MODEL :
Is a framework that examines the level of competition within an
industry.
Threat Of
New
Entrants
Industry
Rivalry
Bargaining
Power Of
Suppliers
Bargaining
Power of
Consumers
Threat Of
Substitutes
9. PORTER’S FIVE FORCE MODEL :
Threats of New Entrants (Moderate) :
Due to high capital requirement in the industry restrict new entrants & the GOI has
withdrawn incentive & also put restriction on setting up of two sugar factories within
the radius of 15 Kms.
Threat of Substitute Product (Low) :
With increased per capita income and easy availability of sugar at competitive
rates, use of gur is seeing a downward trend and is mostly confined to rural areas.
Hence, threat of substitute is low in the industry.
Bargaining Power of Suppliers (Moderate) :
The Sugar mills have purchase all the Cane sold to them, even if it exceeds their
requirement. Due to such de-control is likely to give higher pricing power to the mills,
the government still can influence the prices with its PDS system.
Bargaining Power of Buyers (Low) :
Indian sugar market is highly regulated by the Govt., hence, buyer’s power is highly
restricted in this sector.
10. SWOT ANALYSIS :
Helps to assess internal & external factors that might our business.
STRENGTHS:
There is an equal participation from the employees’ side as the management
adopts the Participative strategy for the employees.
WEAKNESS:
Delays in payments are the major reason for the weakness of organizations.
There is a high labour turnover because of the above mentioned factors.
OPPORTUNITIES:
If computers are provided the efficiency of the workers will be more. If all
departments are computerized the cost of production can be reduced.
