2. German Revolution, 1918-1919
At the end of World War One
there were revolts across
Germany, similar to the Russian
Revolution.
Eventually the Kaiser abdicated
and a new German Republic
was set up in 1919.
3. The Weimar Republic
From 1919 onwards, the system
of government in Germany was
known as the Weimar Republic.
This was because the assembly
that set up the system met in the
German city of Weimar.
4. The Weimar Republic
The Weimar government lasted
around 14 years, until 1933.
The system ended with Hitler’s
appointment as Chancellor, and
he gradually dismantled the
system of democracy.
5. Nazi Germany
Nazi control meant a fascist
dictatorship was installed in
Germany.
Soon the Nazis would attempt
to control Europe as well as
Germany, ultimately failing to
do so during World War Two.
